One of the greatest groups of all time! Slow down, Hanging on a String, Stay a little while child, You can't stop the Rain, Don't be a Fool, Nights of Pleasure, Who are You, and Sweetest pain are my top favorites and they'll never get old
Still one of my favorite songs/tracks. I’ve thrown it in towards the end of countless sets over the years - needless to say I’ve listened to it solo on the full album & 12” 100s of times 🖤🖤
Loose Ends is one of my absolute favorite groups. Growing up Black in the U.S. in the 80s you always heard Loose Ends - all of their albums. To this day Loose Ends remains a staple on R&B/Soul radio in the U.S. Legendary group. This is a great video. Salute to you. I'm glad the group can still get together and do live concerts. I'd also love to see if they could reunite and work with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis as they are all seasoned people now.
That whole UK soul movement was amazing. Loose Ends was a huge favorite of mine (even up to their 90s album, arguably their best, "Look How Long"). But it continued with Soul II Soul and even Caron Wheeler's solo work. They all had such an incredible, soulful sound.
Loose Ends And Soul 2 Soul Were Two Of The Greatest R&B Groups To Ever Come Out Of The UK! They Fit Right In With Their Brothers And Sister's In America Playing Funk And R&B! Excellent Presentation! Loose Ends Will Always Be One Of My Favorite All Time Group! Love, Peace And Blessings To Them Always! ✌️
White guy in his 50s and I absolutely adored Loose Ends in the 80s and still do even now in 2021. Their sound is just so smooth, funky and so quintessentially 80s. Always gives me a warm, familiar feeling when I put on one of their albums, owning them all from A Little Spice right up to Look How Long.

I remember hearing them on the radio all the time as a kid here in the states. They had a very unique sound that drew me in immediately. Even now when I hear them I jam out, singing all the words and sound effects to Hanging On A String and Slow Down... lol. And I loved You Can’t Stop The Rain and Watching You as well. 💜💜
Kudos to the person who did the research and produced this video. I still to this day enjoy the music of this R&B group. Songs like Hanging on a string, Slow Down, You can't stop the rain, and Stay a little while child are classics. Loose Ends were definitely among the best in the music business during R&B explosion of the 1980s.
To this day, I'm still a huge fan of Loose Ends. Playing their albums take me right back to such memorable moments and good times. TIMELESS. Thanks so much for this post!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Well done! Loved how you give snippets of each released song as well as interview pieces with the band members. Loose Ends is LEGENDARY and has timeless music that still sounds incredible. The videos and albums, basslines, vocals, and instrumentation are iconic. Sad to hear of their internal issues but grateful for their catalog of hits. 🎵🕺🏽💃🎵.
Loose Ends was huge here in the states for decades and we still enjoy hits like hanging on a string and slow down. Personally one of my favorite groups from either side of the Atlantic!!!
As a child I loved Jane. Watching her presence and style on tv (BET) her voice is so distinctive it made my day! I just couldn't get enough of Loose Ends, still playing their music to this day!
One time in the late 80s, I was sitting in my car downtown, getting ready to go into one of the clubs. I was playing Hanging on a String on my cassette. A friend walked by and knocked on my window. I rolled the window down. The first thing he said was you always have the best music. A Loose Ends moment.
I fell in love with this group in 1985, when 15. Their sound, vibe and content was awesome. Still in heavy rotation in my home and car. I wished they could have worked things out back around 1990. However, they were and still one of the top R&B Acts from the 80's. Loved Them!
Their production was " Sick " - Carl McIntosh was incredible. Listen with headphones, to really appreciate all the nuances. example: Stay a Little while child, Music takes me higher & Love controversy ( part 1) - they were a huge influence and Inspiration for my musical journey. oNe LovE from NYC
I was upset when Jane split!? Carl wrote some more good stuff without the both of them! But the magic wasn’t there like in the past! It’s nice to know he tried to get them to come back! I could blame the UK BillBoards!!! Jane was probably leaning more to trying her luck more In the USA 🇺🇸?! I understand her dilemma but wish they all considered for the sake of an incredible group!
Their hits are Legendary in the U.S. and I speak as an American 🔥 🔥. Underneath Sade they're the best soul band from England. Haunting, powerful, iconic, legendary classic songs. Salute
Another group from the UK that needs to be touched on is 52nd Street. Children Of The Night 🌉 was a banger album "Tell me how it feels". This was a great review on them way overdue.
Jeeezz, how old am I? I still remember being a little girl and my mother buying their album and bringing it home to play on the record player. Still fantastic music and so nice to know they are all still around and doing their thing❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm from the US...I absolutely LOVE UK R&B singers. Yall picked up the torch and ran with it...Loose Ends was one of my fave groups of all times. My sister and I can't choose which Loose Ends was the best, Pt 1 or Pt 2...both sides were great. thanks for the doc. I think the show UNSUNG should have done a UK segment...love you guys!
'Stay A Little While' is still the dopest song...the best instrumental solo ever. I can jam to it at any time! Makes me feel like I'm in a breathtaking Arabian desert... I saw them long ago in Houston, TX.
their music was in heavy rotation New York metro area mid to late 80"s my favorites were "Slow Down", Hanging On A String" Stay a little While Child" "Gonna Make you Mine""Watching You"."Choose Me".
For those who don't know this. Jane Eugene recorded an unreleased EP named "Selections" back in 94. I wasn't even aware she recorded it until earlier this year. I listen to the entire EP and it was the joint for me. The album still has that Loose Ends sound and vibe to it. I believe she was pursuing her solo career at that time. For those who are interested you can type Jane Eugene of Loose Ends to find it on TH-cam.
Man I really love these TH-camrs bringing a light to all these Great song's we heard as kid's at parties, cookouts and weddings. The "80s was such a special time ❤️ 🔥
Just seen them perform at the 2022 funk fest at VA beach, they are definitely one of my favorites busting outta the eighties, wished all 3 could reunite soon, love them soooo much
Firstly, thank you for creating this episode / video on Loose Ends! They are in my Top 5 favorite groups ever! I remember when their sound began to change / evolve in 1990. I was so hurt. I definitely agree with Jane Eugene that their producer Nick Martinelli was the secret sauce in their sound. It was their magic combination. However, I am a huge fan of Steve Nichol and Carl Macintosh - the two of them are incredible songwriters / producers. The Group is one of the most unique R&B groups in terms of their sound and their visual style. The Loose Ends Sound is its own Genre!
@REESCOMUSIC4EVER No worries at all! Hope you enjoyed the video! I agree with everything you said 💯 Loose Ends with Nick Martinelli were the perfect combo!
As a self-proclaimed almanac of soul music, let me state for the record that there were two groups that consistently brought it during the decade of the eighties: Loose Ends and Atlantic Starr. If those two groups could miraculously put aside their collective differences, reunite, and tour together, that would be magical. In my opinion, those two groups carried the spirit of true soul music. For an entire decade.
Loose Ends along with Incognito were two of my favorite British R&B groups. When I was stationed in Belgium back in the 80's it was Loose Ends, Rick James, Prince on heavy rotation in my bomb box! There was another group called Good for We that was also in that British R&B genre.
One of my all time favorite groups, from Stay A Lil While Child, Hangin On A String, Slow Down, Watching You, You Can’t Stop The Rain, Mamas Song, Mr Bachelor, Remote Control, Gonna Make You Mine, Choose Me, Cheap Talk, What Goes Around, Symptoms Of Love, Let’s Rock, Life, Nights Of Pleasure, and many more. Such a smooth unique sound and vibe. Thank you so much Loose Ends for the many years of pleasing our ears 👊🏾
An underatted R&B group with a very authentic sound for the soul. For Hip-Hop fans in the U.S. I loved that Pete Rock got this group for the song, "Take your Time" on his Soul Survivor Album and also featured in the video. Smooth as hell hip-hop with their timeless touch. R.I.P MF Doom our brother. Thank you for the coverage in the most honorable fashion of details that reveal those cherished infinite archives.
What a phenomenal trio! I definitely enjoyed the group and their sound. Till this day I still rock their music. For me, there is not enough documentaries that are made on the black UK sound. I truly loved the house music as well as the R&B back then. You don’t here that sound anymore 😔
You're right. I think about groups like Freeez, 52nd Street, Incognito, Linx, Imagination, Light of the World, Direct Drive/First Light, Central Line etc. Even pop groups like Spandau Ballet, Level 42, ABC, Scritti Politti or George Michael with WHAM! were into it at a certain point of their careers... And Sade, Simply Red or Lisa Stansfield were full R&B !!!
Well, now, simply speaking bluntly, the black UK sound sounds unblack and free of any soul. They generally sound like white-ified. Sounds more like pop music, about as funky as Mili Vanilli.
I love, love, love this group! I still listen to their music today, always been a huge fan! It's sad they broke up, and won't perform together anymore. I would love to see the reunion concert with the three original members..especially Jane Eugene, she was my favorite.
_Zagora_ is in the top 5 on my list of _"Albums That Epitomize the Music of the My Incredible 80s."_ _Zagora,_ is _Sade with a beat. Danceable silk._ The 80s: _Lived 'em. Loved 'em. Miss 'em._
No shade, no drama, just an honest fact filled update on one of my favorite bands growing up. Well done. As an American, I always preferred British R&B. I remember my first trip to London....I was near Trafalgar Square and heard Slow Down on the radio. I was like "Who is this?". I came back to America with quite a few Loose Ends (and D-Influence) cd's. Thanks for the video. #NewSubscriber
Like Egypt's pyramids, it seems like Loose Ends made music that is bound to last for eternity. Lost sight on them after ''Look How Long'' album in the first half of the 90's - an immaculate opus! Credit to them for having risen the bar in a time segment when the UK was flooding the world outrageously with flocks of incredibly talented artists (just remember Wally Badarou!). Feel very saddened to find out today how it all ended. Thanks for the documentary though!
What an instance look towards research you always deliver on your videos. Had no idea that Caren wheeler offered her musical voice towards this iconic group. Could you please do a video for Caron wheeler by herself, and Lisa Stansfield.
@ Robert Jackson Thank you so much! Yes I remember you requested a video on Caron Wheeler previously so she is on my list and I'll add Lisa Stansfield too! I will definitely put something together shortly!
I grew up and went to the same school as Karl at South Hackney school. He was a awesome bass guitar player. I also visited his home frequently. His mother had a positive attitude and never let Karl waste time being idle. She made him aware of the value of time. I attended one of the studios on a frequent basis and watched Karl practice in a band before he even became involved with loose ends. They use have serious arguments with each other during practice. If one band member was out of time with their instruments or not up to standard, arguments would develop. There is on bas ass tune that was never released that I recorded while they were practicing in the studio before Loose ends arrived. The track was called easy street and it was a funk jazz fusion track. This track was awesome. Karl is so talented but believe me it was not all talent he had to put in some serious work and dedicate himself for years.
Loose ends had a great run with a steam of soulful hits. Much more appreciated in the USA. Left to wonder if the pairing with Jam and Lewis had worked out what would have been.
LOVED this group! "Slow Down" was my jam but "Watching You" was everything!!! The best thing about them was the way they brought the party when they danced. If you weren't feeling the song at the beginning, boppng with the three of them made you feel it. Of course, Jane with those fabulous freakin' hats... ❤
I grew up in Manchester and have played guitar for 30 years but I still listen to loose ends and 52nd street tell me how it feels. We were spoiled in the 80s in the uk for quality music and stunning vocalists.
Criminally underrated group. Definitely deserve their flowers ⚘🌺🌻.

YES!!!!, An 80's flashback, Thank you for having this most popular yet underrated group. R&B flavor at its best!.
@Robert Jackson No worries at all! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I agree, they are an underrated group!
Right… I hope they do an unsung on them
💯💯💯
I remember hearing them on the radio all the time as a kid here in the states. They had a very unique sound that drew me in immediately. Even now when I hear them I jam out, singing all the words and sound effects to Hanging On A String and Slow Down... lol. And I loved You Can’t Stop The Rain and Watching You as well. 💜💜
I was a kid in the 80s when I first heard Loose Ends. ‘Hanging On A String’ was heard a everywhere where I lived.
They were totally off the hook!
Love them!😍
To this day, I'm still a huge fan of Loose Ends. Playing their albums take me right back to such memorable moments and good times. TIMELESS. Thanks so much for this post!
This is my group. Love the songs hanging on a string, slow down and stay a little while child. The industry is dirty.
@simonstuart2003 Honestly those songs have to be part of the top 5 best Loose Ends songs! I totally agree, the industry is dirty 💯
How did u can’t stop the rain chart higher, there greatest hit
back in the day I absolutely loved this trio, their sound was iconic
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Well done! Loved how you give snippets of each released song as well as interview pieces with the band members. Loose Ends is LEGENDARY and has timeless music that still sounds incredible. The videos and albums, basslines, vocals, and instrumentation are iconic. Sad to hear of their internal issues but grateful for their catalog of hits. 🎵🕺🏽💃🎵.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video ❤
Loose Ends is so underrated! My mother loved this band and I just recently started playing them again! Gawd they are so awesome!
Loose Ends was huge here in the states for decades and we still enjoy hits like hanging on a string and slow down. Personally one of my favorite groups from either side of the Atlantic!!!
We love them in the states ...rocking them at the bbq and parties
As a child I loved Jane. Watching her presence and style on tv (BET) her voice is so distinctive it made my day! I just couldn't get enough of Loose Ends, still playing their music to this day!
Their music still sounds great after 40 years. It'll will never age. Slow down, hanging on strings are my jams 🎶
I have always maintained that their non singles or b-sides were some of Loose Ends' finest work.
One time in the late 80s, I was sitting in my car downtown, getting ready to go into one of the clubs. I was playing Hanging on a String on my cassette. A friend walked by and knocked on my window. I rolled the window down. The first thing he said was you always have the best music. A Loose Ends moment.
Loose Ends are always on my playlist till this day...
Their music is so dope❤
Love this group
I fell in love with this group in 1985, when 15. Their sound, vibe and content was awesome. Still in heavy rotation in my home and car. I wished they could have worked things out back around 1990. However, they were and still one of the top R&B Acts from the 80's. Loved Them!
Watching You is my all time favorite Loose Ends jam they need their props seriously underrated
Agreed and nights of pleasure was 🔥
You got to thank Nick Martinelli for the production
@@dennisallen8333 Yes. Underrated producer for sure.
For me, no Loose Ends without Jane!
I agree
I was upset when Jane split!?
Carl wrote some more good stuff without the both of them! But the magic wasn’t there like in the past! It’s nice to know he tried to get them to come back!
I could blame the UK BillBoards!!!
Jane was probably leaning more to trying her luck more In the USA 🇺🇸?!
I understand her dilemma but wish they all considered for the sake of an incredible group!
@@KennyFame oh yes
I agree.
Agreed. I absolutely loved the last album but it should have just been a Carl McIntosh album because, it essence, that's what it was.
I’ll be seeing them in concert here in the states in a few weeks. Can’t wait!
Jeeezz, how old am I? I still remember being a little girl and my mother buying their album and bringing it home to play on the record player. Still fantastic music and so nice to know they are all still around and doing their thing❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Totally my childhood! I still have my mothers albums!
Jane reminded me of Phyllis Hyman back in the day
I love loose ends but it was only one Phillis Hyman
"Loose Ends" are Legends! 🙏🏿 They changed the sound of music in the 80's & from them came "Soul II Soul" Legends in their on right 🙏🏿
I'm from the US...I absolutely LOVE UK R&B singers.
Of course We know great music
For those who don't know this. Jane Eugene recorded an unreleased EP named "Selections" back in 94. I wasn't even aware she recorded it until earlier this year. I listen to the entire EP and it was the joint for me. The album still has that Loose Ends sound and vibe to it. I believe she was pursuing her solo career at that time. For those who are interested you can type Jane Eugene of Loose Ends to find it on TH-cam.
Man I really love these TH-camrs bringing a light to all these Great song's we heard as kid's at parties, cookouts and weddings. The "80s was such a special time ❤️ 🔥
Hearing how low they charted in the US-I saw things differently. They were EVERYTHING to me and they still are.
Same
Just seen them perform at the 2022 funk fest at VA beach, they are definitely one of my favorites busting outta the eighties, wished all 3 could reunite soon, love them soooo much
Firstly, thank you for creating this episode / video on Loose Ends!
@@Sephsaysso Absolutely! I hope they reunite for at least one new project as the classic group line-up. (Steve, Jane, & Carl)
Sos band was also dope
Loose Ends along with Incognito were two of my favorite British R&B groups. When I was stationed in Belgium back in the 80's it was Loose Ends, Rick James, Prince on heavy rotation in my bomb box! There was another group called Good for We that was also in that British R&B genre.
But, what about Princess? "Say I'm your number one?!"
Im 55... thats my top 5 groups of all time ! Period ! The legendary loose ends !
Take Your Time is still sick to this day. Smooth as hell and it all fits. Pete Rock salute.
I still play their music.
Yep, like it was yesterday.
I was blessed to see them (with Jane) perform live 5 years ago! Definitely one of the greatest groups ever!
My uncle bumped loose ends so much. They'll be in my playlist forever
Danceable silk._
The 80s: _Lived 'em. Loved 'em. Miss 'em._
Loose Ends was incomparably tight!
One of the most underrated group out of the UK. They were a force to be reckoned with. Loved them then love them now.
You did an amazing job with this group ‘Loose Ends’ telling the His/Herstory. They definitely deserve their credit & flowers…
@Michele Thomas same here I'm an American girl and I really enjoyed their music .
“Hanging on Strings” was a 90s song that came five years early.
I Skated To Their Music ALL Through the 80's and 90's!!! My FAV Song is "You CAN'T STOP the Rain and I BEEN Watching" 👏🏼👏🏼💫🎙🎵🥰😁
Here after "U Can't Stop The Rain" on BMF!!!! But actually been a FAN since the 80's
This is my FAVORITE GROUP since 1986. I still listening to them like they just came out.
I loved the way Carl danced...
He would be getting down...
😅😅
@@Sephsaysso I sure wish Jane and Carl would put aside their little differences and get back to get her and make some more good music!
Caron Wheeler is so underrated. She banged with Soul 2 Soul
Her living in the life on her solo album dope!!
@@dennissmith1908 I met her & Jazzy B/Soul II Soul as a kid ....she was just as beautiful in person as on TV :)
I loved this music in the 1980's and still love it 2023.
This was amazing! Loved Loose Ends and always wondered what happened to them.
@Denise N Omg thank you so much 💜 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Loose ends had a great run with a steam of soulful hits. Much more appreciated in the USA. Left to wonder if the pairing with Jam and Lewis had worked out what would have been.
When black music out of the UK is discussed, loose ends is the first thought that comes to mind!. Soul 2 soul a close 2nd!.💯
This!!!! “Watching You” is one of my top favorites that I still play til this day
I grew up in Manchester and have played guitar for 30 years but I still listen to loose ends and 52nd street tell me how it feels. We were spoiled in the 80s in the uk for quality music and stunning vocalists.
