  • Wanted to make a little video now that I have completed 3 months of my relationship with my 2022 BMW M240i! Also it took me this long to find out about the Sprint mode which I consider to be hidden to those who dont read the owners manual which seems to be many.

    You need to have the "Shadowline" package to get the "Sprint" feature, with the U.S. spec'd M240i, anyway. Another interesting tidbit for U.S. spec'd cars .... the only way to get the flared fenders and wider tires is by adding the "Cooling and High Performance Tire Package," which I believe is called the "Pro Pack" in another countries.

    The sprint function is basically a kickdown but using the paddles in stead of the pedal.
    Here's what the manual says:
    Activating
    1. Keep the left shift paddle pulled until SPRINT
    is displayed in the instrument cluster.
    ▷ The transmission shifts down to the low‐
    est possible gear and switches to manual
    operation M.
    ▷ A dynamic setting has been activated for
    the drivetrain.
    2. Change gears manually.
    Automatic deactivation
    The Sprint function is ended automatically when
    driving moderately for a defined period of time.
    Manual deactivation
    ▷ Keep the right shift paddle pulled until
    SPRINT is no longer displayed in the instru‐
    ment cluster.
    ▷ In addition to the pulled right shift paddle, pull
    the left shift paddle.
    ▷ Press the selector lever from selector lever
    position S to D

    • @AllenBMWDurham

    Thanks for the Sprint mode info. I looked it up in the owner's manual and found that only by holding the left paddle will activate sprint mode (no need to floor the accelerator the same time). Here is what the manual says "
    Activating
    1. Keep the left shift paddle pulled until SPRINT is displayed in the instrument cluster.
    The transmission shifts down to the lowest possible gear and switches to manual operation M.
    A dynamic setting has been activated for the drivetrain.

  • @666.Belphegor
    @666.Belphegor 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You don’t even need to kick down the pedal, sprint mode is not meant to drive like a maniac. You can simply hold the minus pedal, once you see sprint and the car has downshifted you can accelerate to desired speed or until you have overtaken whoever and as soon as you begin cruising again it’ll revert back to whatever mode you were in. No wonder you get bad mpg if you keep flooring it past kickdown. lol nevertheless, good video as always.

    Wow, quite thirsty, Allen! After 2 years, my B58 (240i pre OPF RWD) overall consumption is 9.5l driving sporty and relaxed in a mix (living in the countryside). But in the first months 11-12l, checking out the fun factor :o) My all time „record“ is 6.1l on a single trip - still kind of fun, driving very anticipatory and with a lot of coast/sailing usage in eco mode and using truck slipstream a few times - of course mostly cross-country, no big cities and just little stop and go. nevertheless absolutely stunning for a 3l IL6 in my opinion… but to be honest, i never managed to do that again. :-) But „normal“ trips with about 8-8,5l are no problem with this engine. Greetings from southern Bavaria!

    • @AllenBMWDurham
      @AllenBMWDurham  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment! I just challenged myself on the weekend to see how good fuel economy I could get on a family outing and I was able to achieve 5.7l/100kms by using eco pro, maximizing coasting and simply not pressing the throttle. Normally I couldn't do this but with my family in the car and some beautiful scenery it wasn't so bad. Promptly after returning home I started going sideways in Sport + and ruined all my efforts but good to know it can be done if I can smarten up! Also I think its cool that people all over the world leave me comments, especially from the BMW mother land.

    I was driving a UK 220i and the Sprint mode function never showed in the instrument cluster. However when holding the downshift the car would still downshift to the lowest possible gear and enter manual mode exactly the same. Even though sprint mode wasn’t technically enabled

    Allen, thanks for the tip. This is by far the best tip yet regarding the m240i. I purchased a Brooklyn gray all blacked out and loaded. Everything but the brake / cooling package because I had to have black rims. Love this freaking car so much I put down a deposit on a 2023 M2. Doesnt make sense, right, love the car so buy a different one, however that strategy has served me well in the past with WRX/STI and Audi s4. So here is my problem. I am following the launch control instructions as outlined by everyone including BMW and you in one of your videos. Cant get it to work. I am not flooring it all the way before launch because the engine is trying to push through the breaks and the car tends to creep forward and grind the brakes. Is this normal and I should just floor it and potentially grind up the brakes if the pressure is not relieved on its own by entering launch control. Called the genius and he told me that you have to drive the car 6 miles before launch control will engage and everytime you turn the car off the clock is reset. Let me know what you think and keep up the good work. BTW do you guys have a 2023 M2 wait / deposit list yet
