    Nice vid. The M240i is winning praise all over place. Latest edition of Car magazine picked it over the RS3 and AMG A45, despite those cars being significantly more powerful and more expensive. Just nice to see a manufacturer still making compact yet (relatively) practical sports coupe.

      @samcourt6228 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure I’d call it compact now it’s the same size as an E90. It’s an absolute heifer too.

      @nigel.w 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samcourt6228 It's all relative. Cars seem to get bigger and fatter with every new generation, as you know. By today's standards it is relatively compact, and while not light, it's not that heavy, either. It's true, it's the size of an older 3 Series. For my taste's and requirements, it's a significant improvement over the previous 2 Series. However, I can understand that for many 2 Series fans, its increased size and weight goes against what they like about the old 2 series. You can't argue with the handling and performance, though. Officially, 0-60 in 4.3 secs/0-62 in 4.4, but unofficially, it's a sub-4 second car, 0-62. Yes, it's as big as a decade-old 3 Series, but it's very nearly as fast as a decade old super GT. IMO, it's amazing and it's going to sell very well here in the UK, where I think xDrive will be very much welcomed.

    • @samcourt6228
      @samcourt6228 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nigel.w not being funny, but if the 2 series was too small, isn’t that were the 4 series comes in?
      It’s a fatty for the size I’d car as far as I’m concerned. It weighs more than an F80 M3 which is a bigger car. Whilst the ever increasing power of modern engines hides the weight of each new iteration, it’ll still be felt elsewhere.
      Surely cars will need to stop growing soon. The roads we drive on aren’t getting bigger, nor is my garage or parking spaces! It’s bloody fast, guessing the new M2 will be an absolute monster and will hopefully be a bit better looking.

      @@samcourt6228 "not being funny, but if the 2 series was too small, isn’t that were the 4 series comes in?"
      I didn't say the old 2 Series was too small per se, just that I prefer the new 2 Series, and that's partly down to it's greater dimensions. It's subjective, and that's also why it's not where the 4 Series comes in for me. I really like the new 2 Series; I don't ike the new 4 Series, its front end has not grown on me, and it's much more expensive.
      "It’s a fatty for the size I’d car as far as I’m concerned."
      Subjective, but subjectively valid for you.
      "It weighs more than an F80 M3 which is a bigger car."
      "Whilst the ever increasing power of modern engines hides the weight of each new iteration, it’ll still be felt elsewhere."
      Facts.
      "Surely cars will need to stop growing soon. The roads we drive on aren’t getting bigger, nor is my garage or parking spaces!"
      Logical. I can't argue against that, except to say that this has been going on a long time, and logic doesn't seem to have anything to do with it.
      Standard UK garages have been approx. 16'x8' since they were first built, when the average car was the size of an Austin Seven, although there were also much bigger cars, too.
      UK garages should have gotten bigger as cars got bigger and bigger. In the US, there are a couple of standard sizes, the smallest is 20'x10' (actually 20'x20' for two cars). In the UK, that would enable almost everything to fit in and able to be gotten in and out of relatively easily. Logically increasing the size of the average garage would seem the order of the day. Yet, what is often the case, is that garages in new builds are actually getting smaller, so small that you can't even fit in a supermini. Logic dictates that a garage should be able to house a car, but that's clearly not what most UK architects think.
      I was looking for a house with at least a triple garage. There was a new build with a triple garage in an area that would have suited. It was also rural with no immediate neighbours. The house and loction were nice. The price wasn't bad. Seemed good value. As I recall, the garage even had a workshop/store and space above. The length of the garages was less than 15 feet, and there was simply no possible justification for it. There was enough land. If there hadn't been, there still wouldn't be any justification to build a useless triple garage. If you think a triple garage is essential to a build, then surely it must be fit for purpose, and if there are land constraints, the house itself would surely have to be a bit smaller, so the garage would be useful.
      If you can answer why a so-called executive detached house would be built with garaging of less than 15' long, I'd be amazed. In 1968, a Jag XJ was 15'10". The LWB was 16'2". A current 5 Series is 16'3. A 7 Series is 16'9". The LWB is 17'4", as is the Maserati Quattroporte. The S Class and Audi A8 are a touch longer than the 7 Series. The last XJ SWB was a touch shorter and the LWB a touch longer than a current 7 Series. And a RR Ghost SWB is 18'3" and a LWB is 18'10". Even the current 3 Series is 15'6"-15'11" long. A new build executive house that can't house any concept of an executive car; an executive house that deems garaging so important that it has three garages.
      I'll refrain from ranting about garages that aren't wide enough to enable ingress and egress. Or standard garage doors that aren't wide enough for some modern cars, irrespective of how wide the inside of the garage is.
      The world ain't very logical. Actually, increasingly illogical. You'd think there'd be a limit to house prices, simply dictated by incomes, but that clearly isn't the case. I don't understand it myself. I'd love for someone to explain it to me. How do ordinary people keep managing to pay more and more when their incomes don't keep up? Yet, most do.
      Anyway, all the points you make are valid!
      "It’s bloody fast, guessing the new M2 will be an absolute monster"
      Absolutely.
      "and [the M2] will hopefully be a bit better looking."
      Again, that's subjective.
      I quite like the look of the M240i, but it's certainly not perfect.

    • @samcourt6228
      @samcourt6228 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nigel.wthe garage thing is nuts, but I guess if developers make garages bigger, they’ll end it with less houses on a plot and therefore less cash because density is king especially when uk land is so expensive. Also I think most people in the UK don’t use their garages for cars; they’re a dumping ground / storage area.
      Aesthetically the latest 2 series isn’t anywhere near as bad as most of the latest designs….yes 4 series I’m looking at you. But to my eyes at least, it’s a bit awkward and ungainly and overalls looks odd. Not ugly, just odd. The purple launch colour is lovely though but I wish they’d dutch their obsession with highlighting design details with metallic beige accents. The F series 2 was slightly awkward looking too, I could never bit my finger on what or why. The M2 fixed it though with big arches etc.
      BMW used to make sone great looking coupes but seem to gave lost their way. To my eyes the last good looking one was the F12 6 series.

    Also, you said the new M2 will be RWD. Has this been confirmed or is it just an assumption? I was hoping it would be xdrive but with the ability to select RWD only like the other M cars.

    Stressful watching this video. Irresponsible driving so fast on those slippery roads. He might lose control and slam into another vehicle. Very irresponsible.
