Really enjoying these video game history videos! I was a huge Street Fighter 2 fan and played it at the Devil's Quarters Arcade at the Duke University Bryan Center circa '94. I can remember all the places in Durham NC that had a SF2 arcade cabinet, Northgate Mall Arcade, SouthSquare Mall Tilt Arcade, PuttPutt Golf on Roxboro Rd, Krogers in South Durham, Tommy's Min Mart, and Daniel Boone Ice Skating RInk in Hillsborough and the amazing arcade at Crabtree in Raleigh. When X-Men came out, it blew my mind, but I wasn't very good at it. Then X-men vs. Capcom and that also blew my mind at Devil's Quarters with the art, the high jumping, and huge falling screens. Then alpha came out and felt there were too many new things like juggles I wasn't very good at yet. The sf3 came out....so I realize, people played a ton of sf2 and all of the iterations, then all these new street fighter games, came out around 96, I think you mentioned 3 or 4 new games and they were awesome but it was almost an overload for a fan. That's why when sf4 came out in 2007 it was a revival, and sfv kind of fell into the same trough as sf3 after people may have gotten an overload of 4. I would love to see an iteration of street fighter called something like street fighter classic with pixel art rivaling sf3, and moves that would incorporate all of the series but have a good balance between simplicity and complexity. I thought the HD remix was a good idea but think the art could have been better, an updated pixel style instead of hand drawn 2d would have been preferable. I think a great idea for SF6 would be a beautiful anime style that would look like the movies. I think the CGI style for V is too realistic and cold. Too much detail and stuff going on in the backgrounds. The SF3, x-men, and marvel vs pixel art is so well done, but a dark anime style street fighter would be unique and potentially really beautiful. I think juggle mechanics and new mechanics like parries of some sort are what makes the game interesting, something that allows for a really wide variety of combos under different circumstances, not too many ultra or super multiple free combos but the gauges that allow the character to start trailing and doing faster and more combos are preferable.
I love this game. Used to go to the arcades and before entering I could hear the intro of the game and would be pumped already to play it. Great times. 👍
Norimaro is easily my favorite character from the entire Capcom fighting series. It's a horrible crime that he never made it to the west. He could have been a legend.
For All of you who still have the passion and love for this game and wants to play online just go to www.fightcade.com. There are TH-cam tutorials on how to install and play this and other vs series. See you there 🤗
I'm surprised you didn't mention Sakura being an extension of Capcom's tongue-in-cheek gag towards SNK. She's a parody of Ryo Sakazaki's little sister, Yuri, who was finally playable in Art Of Fighting 2 which released around the same time as SF Alpha 2. From her charging fireball to the red Converse. She's a dead ringer for Yuri. This explains her storyline with Dan in Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 4 too. Another great entry! I remember importing the Saturn version upon release and was surprised at how fun Norimaro was to play! LOL
You have an eye for fine details I didn't even catch. Played both games for years. To further strengthen what your saying, yuri was in king of fighters 99 as a part of team art of fighting. A cross over vs style game for snk that existed around the same time as this game. Now we know sakura's true origins.
Ok the internet is literally inside my brain I was just thinking of this game and all the sudden boom it's in my feed...well I was thinking of Capcom vs marvel
I took a picture on my phone and I started seeing ads with the same exact text. Not even joking. Those words were, "I will end you." A death threat in my church's parking lot.
What is crazy is ... I had all these games downloaded on PS3 when the PS3 was still prevalent. When I got the yellow light of death for the second time on my PS3 that was previously repaired . I got pissed off I lost those fighters and third strike online , street fighter 2 hd. So I walked away from ps3 for a while and was doing research and saw that the only way I can have these games in near arcade perfection without buying another PS3 and redownloding everything again was to invest in a Sega Saturn. Sure enough almost four February’s ago someone on Craigslist was selling a Saturn lot with an action replay with all the 4m Capcom fighters except street fighter zero 3 and final fight revenge. Because of x-men Vs street fighter and marvel vs street fighter... I am a happy collector and enthusiastic the Sega Saturn. Thank you Capcom ! And thank you sony for making the cruddy PS3s ( cuz it was a fat boy that died 2 )
Now you gotta hope your saturn doesn't overheat, or the optical lenses doesn't break. Or non of the controllers break. Real out of the box, $299, 1994 problems.
Probably not gonna be the popular choice, but I'd love to see you cover Super Street Fighter II, including the Turbo version. It tends to be the one's I play the most
I love the debates about Sakura's popularity in the comments. While I've had very little exposure to the Street Fighter series when they were at their peak, I was seeing way more images of Sakura here in Asia than I ever did Cammy. The schoolgirl trope has always been and will always be a big thing on this side of the Pacific. It's almost as if what's popular in your town isn't representative of what's popular for the rest of the world. I can't gauge who's "more popular" but the folks who still say that a character like Sakura was only around for the weird fetish crowd even after the reasoning in this video itself show a massive lack of understanding how, surprise, different things get popular in different cultures.
I haven't been this interested in Street Fighter in nearly 25 years . TopHat's recent series here has sparked my interest again . I may have to pickup some older games in this series for my collection .
I REALLY disliked the Japanese Exclusive Guest Character taking up a character slot on the Marvel Side. It should have had either Iron Man or Storm as the 9th Marvel Character.
the presentation ALONE sells me on this over X-Men vs. Street Fighter. The music, the announcer, the different screens... hell the music and announcer alone. this game probably has a LOT of my favorite Marvel vs. music. and that announcer yelling all the super names... fuuuuck that shit was AMAZING. SHINKUU HADOUKEN! MEGA OPTIC BLAST... bruh, dude was on point and always hype.
Like Data from Star Trek TNG said to Dr. Pulaski on how to pronounce his name (Day-tah vs Dah-tah), "One is my name, and the other is not." It's not about being a weeb or not. It's about saying the character's actual name.
X-men vs Street Fighter is still my favorite "vs" game. Probably my second favorite Capcom fighter, only behind Alpha 2 Gold. Had both for the Saturn, and both were of course as close to arcade perfect as you could get. Also, MvSF was not really an "upgrade" to me, because it no longer had Gambit or Sabertooth, and neither character would be seen again in their prime incarnations. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but not quite as much as XvSF. Lastly, infinites, especially in the final (and Saturn) version of XvSF actually required a decent setup and a modicum of skill to pull off. In MvSF however, all you had to do was pick Wolverine and Shuma-Gorath to have an even more broken combination, which also called for a lot less effort.
On the subject of Dan Hibiki: While you are correct on Dan being a not-too-subtle parody of SNK Playmore's Art of Fighting's Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia, you left out the fact that he's also a parody of Ryo's little sister, Yuri. His win animation is a direct ripoff of hers. Another point to drive this home is that Dan's ending is a parody of Ryo's ending from Art of Fighting, complete with a non-canonical little sister for Dan named Ran Hibiki. On the subject of Norimano: Capcom was actually planning on using him in all of the Western releases of Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, with pretty much all of his Japanese word balloons translated and redrawn. I believe he was cut due to being too weird of a character for Westerners to understand and not because of licensing issues.
This game was my favorite Saturn game. I liked it better than Marvel Vs. Capcom on the Dreamcast. However, MvC 2 was the absolute shit and a dream come true.
wth. Rose is more memorable? Rose`s debut was in 1995 SFA. Sakura was 1996...yea, more memorable being that she had a less than a year head start... From what I remember, Sakura was a very popular character at the time, so what better way to promote her than by putting her in a vs game. Your logic is far from top hat. And ppl are weebs because they say a name correctly? You have to be joking.
Wait, what you mean “dressed as”?? Sakura IS a japanese school girl!! She’s friends with Hinata (non ninja) in Rival Schools, but I don’t exactly know how that works game wise. I just merely saw Sakura in the roster. She’s was just off school and appears in the SF comics (which are awesome btw) and learned the fireball from Ryu, which was totally boss.
You've got yourself a new subscriber! Love this video! Love the Teddy Long references too. One thing that never gets mentioned is that MSH vs SF had some AMAZING music!
Top hat, Huge question. Wtf happened with the mvc 2 soundtrack? Mvc2 was a very amazing game and brought back so many characters and some originals like ruby heart and abyss. But the soundtrack was like all original acid jazz. Looking back on it now that soundtrack was beautiful imo but it's understandably out of the blue. There also seemed to be a very loose story in there that I certainly never understood.
It's worth noting that Cyclops was the Shoto of CotA and both Captain America and Spider-Man played that way in MSH... So I guess if we include Cyber Akuma we've got 9 Shotos in MSHvSF, out of 21 characters.
Since these videos, I popped in these games for old time sake. This game is definitely less chaotic than XvSF. However, the only person that I know that have a legit infinite in this is Wolverine, and that's only with his Berserker Charge super move.
I personally preferred X-men vs Street Fighter because it had some marvel ladies in it Rogue and Storm and the original Marvel Super Hero game had Psylocke but for some reason the decided to not include any of Lady Marvel characters for MSH vs SF , I would of at least added in Psylocke.
@Parker Brown But why was there so many though? like if Mortal Kombat 3 was re-re-re-released 100 times? (technically with MK3/UMK3/MKT/MKTfor PSX bein virtually the same).. I only gots SF2 &SF2T (for SNES) and SFAlpha Anthology (for ps2). Which brings the question, why the hell werent there antholgies for the 2-D MK games (MK, MK2, MK3, a hybrid of the UMK3's, and hybrid of the MKT's), the Marvel vs games (XMCOTA, MSH, and respective hybrids of XMvSF, MvC, and MvC2), and the other 2-D Street Fighter Games for the Ps2?
This game is a perfect example of a company trying to make a game more "balanced" and less "broken" can just make it less fun overall. It's still good but theres a reason it's by far the least discussed marvel versus crossover game. Only one close is Marvel Infinite. It was very impressive in regards to being such a great Saturn port though. It looks more like something you would find on a Dreamcast

I think a great idea for SF6 would be a beautiful anime style that would look like the movies. I think the
CGI style for V is too realistic and cold. Too much detail and stuff going on in the backgrounds. The SF3, x-men, and marvel vs pixel art is so well done, but a dark anime style street fighter would be unique and potentially really beautiful. I think juggle mechanics and new mechanics like parries of some sort
are what makes the game interesting, something that allows for a really wide variety of combos under different circumstances, not too many ultra or super multiple free combos but the gauges that allow the character to start trailing and doing faster and more combos are preferable.
What is the Japanese EX Edition about? Is there a difference?
I love this game. Used to go to the arcades and before entering I could hear the intro of the game and would be pumped already to play it. Great times. 👍
Norimaro is easily my favorite character from the entire Capcom fighting series. It's a horrible crime that he never made it to the west. He could have been a legend.
He's in the American PSN ver., but you need a Gameshark code to access him. The game freezes after you beat it with him.
Walter Lucero you cant use a gameshark on psn lol
@@dirtkills Haha! Oh, man. I didn't notice I made that mistake!
No. Just no
Loving these Capcom vids Hat.
How about one on Marvel vs Capcom 1?
The whole explanation about Sakura made me cringe
For reals. This guy is far from "Top Hat" as he claims.
You need to cover The Star Gladiator Series. Some of my fave Capcom & Fighting Games Characters are in it!
Amazing Vídeo !! Greetings from Portugal. :)
I would love you to cover Marvel Vs. Capcom 1-3
You picked an excellent series to profile, one of my favorites - well done!
imagine how lovely this would've been on n64...
11:22 A revolutionary mechanic that has been a staple in many tag team fighters
Ok the internet is literally inside my brain I was just thinking of this game and all the sudden boom it's in my feed...well I was thinking of Capcom vs marvel
Close enough right
I took a picture on my phone and I started seeing ads with the same exact text.
I can't wait for Marvel vs Capcom & SNK vs Capcom!!! I love your 90's (PS1) videos! Keep up mate!
You will go 2 on 1 against The Apocataker!!!!!!!!!!
Micshork I agree I was disappointed they would waste a slot like that
@@walterspencer7524 Thank you for agreeing with me.
Which Marvel character would you have wanted?
it shouldve been dr doom.
@@adrenalinex4 They wouldn't have done that. They would have Re-Used a character from MSH or XM:CotA
Micshork dr doom IS in MSH 😑
I love the time machine this channel has become. Peace.
the presentation ALONE sells me on this over X-Men vs.
I always love the MvSF announcer
Ah love my team Sakura X Spiderman from Marvel Superheroes Vs. Street Fighter that excellent works!
Like Data from Star Trek TNG said to Dr. Pulaski on how to pronounce his name (Day-tah vs Dah-tah), "One is my name, and the other is not."
It's not about being a weeb or not. It's about saying the character's actual name.
still got all of these games on PS1 and the Saturn all still luv as the day I got em.
Too much information is just wrong. Still love ya!
Looking forward to MvC and MvC2!
"I speak wrong japanese because I'm british" is the laziest excuse to not admit you are wrong and refuse to learn
This game was my favorite Saturn game. I liked it better than Marvel Vs. Capcom on the Dreamcast. However, MvC 2 was the absolute shit and a dream come true.
Wow man good job I just was looking forward to the game
This and Mvc2 are my favorite
Cammy was created for Super Street Fighter, which came out earlier than Xmen vs Street Fighter.
Bring back memories never had this game but had x men vs street fighter and marvel vs Capcom.
Charlie IS Actually in this game. He appears as Shadow. Same character with a darkened silhouette. I still have this game
Is there a way to play sega saturn versions on another later console?
Wait, what you mean “dressed as”?? Sakura IS a japanese school girl!! She’s friends with Hinata (non ninja) in Rival Schools, but I don’t exactly know how that works game wise. I just merely saw Sakura in the roster.
She’s was just off school and appears in the SF comics (which are awesome btw)
and learned the fireball from Ryu, which was totally boss.
He thinks everyone with sailor uniform as weeb cosplay otaku.
so which vs game have a boss named onslaught? i know I played on that had it
Marvel vs capcom clash of super heroes
You should cover Project Justice,Damn I love that game...
✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
SEGA SATURN IS BOSS!!!!
An actual Street Fighter vs Sailor Moon game back then would've also been dope.
i grew up in mexico and i remember seeing that weird guy at the arcade as a playable character
Me too on Brazil .
They had him here in the US, but only if you were lucky enough to find a Japanese machines. Luckily, there were a few where I grew up in.
Hello lad! I think these are your best videos old sport.
You've got yourself a new subscriber! Love this video! Love the Teddy Long references too.
One thing that never gets mentioned is that MSH vs SF had some AMAZING music!
Top hat,
Huge question.
This is the second best game in the series. RIGHT behind MvC2.
Keep up the good work man. Def made a fan out of me
Holla holla holla! Reminds me of Chapelle Show lol! Thanks mate!
This game is also called Marvel vs Shotos cuz of the overkill of Ryu copycats in the roster.
I literally lol’ed reading that comment
It's worth noting that Cyclops was the Shoto of CotA and both Captain America and Spider-Man played that way in MSH... So I guess if we include Cyber Akuma we've got 9 Shotos in MSHvSF, out of 21 characters.
Since these videos, I popped in these games for old time sake. This game is definitely less chaotic than XvSF. However, the only person that I know that have a legit infinite in this is Wolverine, and that's only with his Berserker Charge super move.
wasnt there a boss character called dreadnought in that last game?
Yes please do Marvel Vs Capcom 😊🤘
I personally preferred X-men vs Street Fighter because it had some marvel ladies in it Rogue and Storm and the original Marvel Super Hero game had Psylocke but for some reason the decided to not include any of Lady Marvel characters for MSH vs SF , I would of at least added in Psylocke.
chrisliam2 I would have liked Rogue or Psylocke, or even at least Captain Marvel in MSH vs SF, but she didn't come until Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
i subscribed a long time ago, though TH-cam finally started recommending some more of your vids. I'm really into the new stuff, champ.
Nice.
... Oh, I can't wait until you possibly do MvC 1
Ps1 version Cyber Akuma is a true challenge.
So when is the video for the first MvC coming?
Probably Thursday.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel Sweeet!
cool episode. Please feature all shmups on GB, gbc, and other handhelds...from best to worst. thanks
The intro alone had me sold for the game 😂
@Top Hat... exactly how many versions of "Street Fighter 2" are there?!...
Why didn't Capcom bring back that cute tune Chun-Li had in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter?
This game is a perfect example of a company trying to make a game more "balanced" and less "broken" can just make it less fun overall. It's still good but theres a reason it's by far the least discussed marvel versus crossover game. Only one close is Marvel Infinite.
It was very impressive in regards to being such a great Saturn port though. It looks more like something you would find on a Dreamcast
I frickin love this game.... still playing it now!
Order Of Magnitude - The Paranormal & Personal it have really good soundtrack
