Yeah, I remember Strider being in MvC 2. I've been a fan of him since, so imagine my excitement once it was announced that he would return in UMVC3(at the time when I was a teen 🤩.
People didn't like non-figting game characters in MvC???? That's the main appeal for me. Seeing characters that you would not normally see in a fighting game. To play as Ken I would go back to the thousand other games he is in. Let me play as Phoenix Wright, thank you very much.
I think the narrator was bias and really just wanted a derpy ken in the game when there is already an akuma and ryu. Real Marvel fans welcomed unique new comers.

I know many people who love crazy and out there choices like Phoenix Wright being in Marvel vs. Capcom, that’s one of the main draws of the series, if it was nothing but a bunch of generic A-listers that are already in loads of games then it would be boring. That’s what Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite did and it roster was horrible.
I personally love being able to play as characters like Viewtiful Joe, Phoenix Wright, and Arthur. That has always been part of the appeal for me, if I want to play a more serious and balanced title, I’ll go for Street Fighter or one of SNK’s fighters, but MvC has always been about chaotic fun with oddball characters, as well as fan favorites.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is one of my favorite games and the game that got me really into fighting games. Glad to see someone covering the history of it. It's a shame that Infinite was such a disappointment because I would love to see a new Marvel vs Capcom game for people to fall in love with like I did with UMvC3.
I came late to the MvC series. I actually enjoyed the comic book aesthetic of MvC3 and an unpopular opinion, but I preferred the more diverse Capcom roster as it didn't focus so much on Street Fighter.

Does anyone love the early footage of games? MVC3 early footage is so fascinating on many things, such as everybody had an air dash like Tatsunoko VS Capcom, the voice lines were said different than the final version, the camera work wasn't finalized yet. Every year I always look back at IGN's first 2 videos "Don't mess with Chris" and "Take it easy on them" they both look and sound like Christmas morning. Even though the game is already out I fall in love with this footage every year we move on further and further.
this game is my favorite in the series and looks great to this day, i was SO FREAKING HAPPY when it came to steam, now i know i will always have it to play a little bit every now and them dispise licensing shit with disney.
9:50 No, it was to promote the shows made by Christopher Yost in his Marvel cartoon series. It has all the same VA from the show. If Yost continued with his plan it Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes, Wolverine and The X-Men, Spectacular Spider-Man would have crossed over with each other.
Those are my favorite marvel games. What I really liked about COTA was Cyclops theme and the whole OST. Capcom really put their heart into those games and it sounds like they enjoyed making it.

In late 1999/early 2000 I spent many of my adolescent days at the arcades playing Tekken Tag and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Then in 2011/2012 there was Ultimate MvC3 and Tekken Tag 2 which brought a whole lot of nostalgia back for me. Those two games really brought me back i to gaming after not having bought any new system or games for years.

This is not a “soulless” Marvel roster, it’s arguably the best in the series. Marvel 2’s roster was too heavy on X-Men and Street Fighter and featured clones like 2 wolverines and all the shotos. Vanilla MvC3 got me into fighting games. The most gaming fun I had that generation was playing UMvC3 with the guys from work for hours and hours. It might be my most played game of all time. None of us were into fighting games before that but it was great to see us all progressively get better every time we'd hang out, learning new things fighting each other. Good times.

I really hated that this came out less than a year after MvC3 at first. I love the game now, especially the Vita version! I would love for it to come out on Switch. But keep Infinite away! That one, while not bad, just didn't work for me. Shame that Disney Infinity killed it. I really liked the Infinity toys, but the game was as bland and soulless as they come. I would have actually bought more figures for it if the game had been worth it.
When you think about it the platform has some of the greatest top tier fighters ever between this, DOA5+, Skullgirls 2 and SFxTekken wow and when they implement touchscreen controls sometimes it just works brilliantly.. Out of curiosity I played a few rounds before and everything still feels fresh and new
It could also be mention that the PS1 port of X-Men CotA godfathered this franchise as it had Akuma as a secret character and brought about the premise of X-Men vs Street Fighter, let alone the Idea that not only X-Men/SF shared a Universe but that Marvel and Capcom existed in a shared universe.
Just one thing. When referencing the Street Fighter characters in MvC3, MvC1 actually reduced the amount of SF characters first and as the name implies introduced some Capcom characters like Megaman, Morrigan, Captain Commando, Jin, and Strider.
Another one of my favourite fighting games, in fact it is the only game I have on my Xbox 360 but I don't mind as this game is one of my favourites of all time. I enjoy how easy it is to play this game, getting Super Combo's out isn't too difficult and even a fighting game scrub like me can get them out but at the same time it is very difficult to master. The gameplay is super fast paced and chaotic and the character roster is really good. This game introduced me to a lot of Marvel and Capcom characters who I didn't know of at the time who I ended up really liking such as Frank West, Pheonix Wright, Nova and Rocket Raccoon as well as having a strong lineup of recognizable faces. Infinite, while still a good game, doesn't really compare to this as the gameplay doesn't feel as chaotic or fast paced and the roster, while having some good newcomers, felt really lacking. I haven't played the first two MvC games but I do plan too.
I always felt like SNK should have done the DC franchise of fighting games as SNK was Capcom's true rival, whereas MK from Midway was a 1 hit wonder with the novelty/crutch of finishing moves.
I understand it was a series, but what other fighting game franchises did Midway have compared to the multitude of fighting games both Capcom and SNK had?
Also Capcom sent it to death because of Ono’s next project which was SFxT. Ono didn’t want MVC3 to compete with the new game so they rushed out umvc3(the earthquake was another reason as well).
@RPT 236 Capcom really suffered from Yoshinori Ono's decisions/choices like SFxT, SFV, and MvCI. Don't even get me started on him blatantly teasing a Darkstalkers game in 2010/2011 at E3 BUT years later NOTHING would manifest and it was all a cruel joke by Youshinori Ono who was blatantly trolling Darkstalkers fans.
I had it in the vita. A great game and excellent value for money. I was very disappointed that it didn't have more xmen characters, but I liked some of the capcom additions like Dante and virgil.

When we got this game we didint even have a ps3 and me and my sister had to wait till Christmas to play but it was worth it cuzz we also got uncharted 3 with it and soon we just randomly had hella games

Part of the appeal of the MvC series IS seeing non-fighting game characters in it. Spider-Man, Mega Man, Zero and Dante are some of my go to characters in the MvC series and none of them originated from a fighting game at all. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Ken. He's my favorite Street Fighter character next to Chun-Li and seeing him in another MvC game would be awesome. But I can definitely understand why he was cut. The other characters in the game have more unique and versatile playing styles and the number of people who use characters like Viewtiful Joe, Dante and Phoenix Wright is crazy. Plus, there are tons of other games that has Ken in it so if I ever feel like using him, I'll just go play MvC2 or something. The MvC series is kinda like Capcom's version of Super Smash Bros. You don't have to be a fighting game character to be in it.
Shuma gorath and Blackheart surely didn't have lasting appeal. They weren't featured heavy back in the day and have only just recently popped up sporadically
I'm sure others told you it already released on PC. So here's a comment that you won't see very often. Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 is the greatest fighting game of all time. And even though I've lost my touch with the game with picking up other things, I still say that every time I grab my controller. Also, RIP the canceled Doctor Octopus plans. That would've made for a fun character. There's always the next title!
Like I said in the original Marvel Vs Capcom 3, I love how Mega Man's fanbase lost their shit because Mega Man wasn't playable and Rocket Racoon was. Now Rocket's a household name because of those movies. When the next game came out, they even had a Funko Pop bundle of Mega Man X and Rocket. I don't know if that was to troll those players, but I take it as one.
The game ain't disappeared. The non-fans just didn't care about it unless it was the hype. There was a major as recently as March- K-Brad's Reflex. Still, UMvC3 got killed for the mainstage by business decisions. Released UMvC3 just 9 months in November after MvC3's release in February for full price, in order to promote the Avengers film. Sales ended up suffering (vanilla sold 2.2 mil; UMvC3 sat at 600k about a year later). Capcom also handled balance patches wrong. After given us regular balance patches based on community feedback (nerfed Sentinel; removed glitches; removed NON-TAC infinities), they were reluctant to nerd characters in UMvC3 without communication (they left Wesker who we mistakenly thought was top-tier at the time- good thing they didn't listen to us- but nerfed Pheonix Wright's- a low tier- invincible assist). They then said they would be at Evo to investigate TAC infinities, but then said they would leave them in the game. Then after later asking for community feedback for balance patches, they reneged on the promise of said balance updates. Only to later reveal they were not going to be updating the game due to Marvel pulling their license. The community kept the game alive despite the popular 'Mahvel is dead' tag and the developers saying they would no longer sponsor the game. As I said, there were majors as recently as March in a Covid-19 rife society. And was pulling bigger numbers in its last Evo main entries then many other new releases.

I liked MVC3 & UMVC3 I have owned them both at one point last gen & bought UMVC3 on PS4 as well. Also MVC2 was good but it had some characters that were just palette swap's of other characters. lol
At first I was cynical with this release since it came so soon after the original (although I never bought the original either). I waited a little and got it at a good price. Once I got adjusted I grew to like this game. While the new characters on the marvel side were obviously put in to promote the movies and series I enjoyed playing with Ghost Rider (who was in my wishlist) and Dr. Strange who became one of my mains.
I noticed watching your videos that you never plug you Merchandise do you not get a good cut for selling t-shirts? Reason for asking because I was thinking about purchasing one in the near future.
The detail many neglect is the marvel character choices lay out as a time line of every upcoming marvel movies at the time - before guardians became a surprise hit (Rocket, Nova), before the fantastic four reboot failure (Doom, Super Skrull) and before Deadpool eventually got his own movie. The emphasis on marketing from the Disney side just got worse five fold in MVCI once that sweet Avengers money started rolling in.
RandomPath Nova wasn’t even in Guardians of the Galaxy. Neither was Super Skrull. And Deadpool’s movie came out in 2016, which is about five years after the game released, so to say that his aappearance here is product placement is just ignorant. Especially since Disney didn’t even have the rights to the Fantastic Four or the X-Men.
the game was huge up until about 2017 when marvel infinite released. people thought that was gonna be the next marvel game that took over the FGC scene. Most people dropped marvel 3 for infinite when that came out. But sooner than we thought people started not liking the game... literally a couple months in and that game died super fast. Basically Marvel infinite killed MVC3 then it killed itself. People didn't make the jump back to marvel 3.
Owning the Vita cartridge (day one) and Vita TV means I'm immune to Disney's f*ckery. My Vita handhelds won't last forever, obviously, and having the PS4 disc version as extra insurance. 😂
MvC is not a Street Fighter spin-off but a spin-off from Capcom's work with Marvel in Arcade. The first game in the series only had X-Men, followed by X-Men vs Street Fighter then the Marvel vs Capcom games.
I didn't pay attention long enough to see if he'd mentioned that the reason Marvel phased out using XMen character was because of the movie deals with Fox and them not wanting to give too much free publicity, this was around the time they'd declared they's stop making XMen themed toys, both issues they reneged on.
(u)mvc3 did have a very lengthy, and successful run on the tournament scene. i caught the finals duting my first EVO visit when kaneblueriver won it. but, to me, no one was better than FChamp at the time as he blew minds and turned heads with his dormammu gameplay. no one anticipated that character, and therefore none could react to FChamps set ups accordingly. he made the game exciting by opening up new doors with a new character, where most people were still clinging to returning characters from mvc 2. i’d say no rush making that mvc infinite video 😉 now ima watch this again!
You're biased towards SF and X-Men. I'd much rather play as Phoenix Wright, Albert Wesker, Viewtiful Joe, Amaterasu, Deadpool, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Taskmaster, MODOK and Super-Skrull over Ken, Cammy, Dan, Sakura, Zangief, Juggernaut, Iceman, Spiral, Marrow and Wolverine-2.

I think they were going to. In the days of future past stage, Mega Man was the only character not listed as missing or dead on a poster in the background. But I guess with the sales and politics, they decided to discontinue supporting the game.

UMvC3 also known as "that one fighting game with Phoenix Wright and Amaterasu" in the casual community lol. That said, I do enjoy it, though I wish I wasn't alone in trying to play Heroes vs Heralds mode nowadays. And it's always nice to know more about it (although personally I would've added "from shelves" to that title just to be even more accurate).
... U/MvC3 had fewer characters than MvC3. However, it U/UMvC3 had the highest number of new characters in the series- MvC3 huge roster consisted of a load of already existing character sprites.
Still think this one is much better than MvCI, but that may be just my opinion. In fact, my fav order for them is 2, 3 & 1 and the last one doesn't even make the list.
Remember the part where Spider-Man & Thing freely used swear words. Or how Venom never said “we”? Or how the media treated The Punisher like a fallen hero in the opening cutscene? Or how Magneto didn’t wear a helmet... Wow. How did this game ever clear Marvel’s oversight?

Everytime Hiryu is used in a Capcom Game, Kadokawa earn a Licences Fee, Zeku in SFV as a Recent Example.

This is not a “soulless” Marvel roster, it’s arguably the best in the series. Marvel 2’s roster was too heavy on X-Men and Street Fighter and featured clones like 2 wolverines and all the shotos. Also Ultimate Marvel 3 came out many years after the Nicholas Cage ghost rider movie, his inclusion was NOT promoting that film

Vanilla MvC3 got me into fighting games. The most gaming fun I had that generation was playing UMvC3 with the guys from work for hours and hours. It might be my most played game of all time. None of us were into fighting games before that but it was great to see us all progressively get better every time we'd hang out, learning new things fighting each other. Good times.

I really hated that this came out less than a year after MvC3 at first. I love the game now, especially the Vita version! I would love for it to come out on Switch. But keep Infinite away! That one, while not bad, just didn't work for me.
Shame that Disney Infinity killed it. I really liked the Infinity toys, but the game was as bland and soulless as they come. I would have actually bought more figures for it if the game had been worth it.
My favorite Vita fighter. So glad to now have it on physical form.
When you think about it the platform has some of the greatest top tier fighters ever between this, DOA5+, Skullgirls 2 and SFxTekken wow and when they implement touchscreen controls sometimes it just works brilliantly..

It could also be mention that the PS1 port of X-Men CotA godfathered this franchise as it had Akuma as a secret character and brought about the premise of X-Men vs Street Fighter, let alone the Idea that not only X-Men/SF shared a Universe but that Marvel and Capcom existed in a shared universe.
Just one thing. When referencing the Street Fighter characters in MvC3, MvC1 actually reduced the amount of SF characters first and as the name implies introduced some Capcom characters like Megaman, Morrigan, Captain Commando, Jin, and Strider.
This is the best MVC hands down. The replay value on this is ridiculous. Spent innumerable time on this one with the homies
Another one of my favourite fighting games, in fact it is the only game I have on my Xbox 360 but I don't mind as this game is one of my favourites of all time. I enjoy how easy it is to play this game, getting Super Combo's out isn't too difficult and even a fighting game scrub like me can get them out but at the same time it is very difficult to master. The gameplay is super fast paced and chaotic and the character roster is really good. This game introduced me to a lot of Marvel and Capcom characters who I didn't know of at the time who I ended up really liking such as Frank West, Pheonix Wright, Nova and Rocket Raccoon as well as having a strong lineup of recognizable faces. Infinite, while still a good game, doesn't really compare to this as the gameplay doesn't feel as chaotic or fast paced and the roster, while having some good newcomers, felt really lacking. I haven't played the first two MvC games but I do plan too.

People were way more upset that no X-Men characters. That was literally one of the main complaints, not Street Fighter characters.
I always felt like SNK should have done the DC franchise of fighting games as SNK was Capcom's true rival, whereas MK from Midway was a 1 hit wonder with the novelty/crutch of finishing moves.
I understand it was a series, but what other fighting game franchises did Midway have compared to the multitude of fighting games both Capcom and SNK had?

Also Capcom sent it to death because of Ono’s next project which was SFxT. Ono didn’t want MVC3 to compete with the new game so they rushed out umvc3(the earthquake was another reason as well).

Capcom really suffered from Yoshinori Ono's decisions/choices like SFxT, SFV, and MvCI. Don't even get me started on him blatantly teasing a Darkstalkers game in 2010/2011 at E3 BUT years later NOTHING would manifest and it was all a cruel joke by Youshinori Ono who was blatantly trolling Darkstalkers fans.
I had it in the vita. A great game and excellent value for money. I was very disappointed that it didn't have more xmen characters, but I liked some of the capcom additions like Dante and virgil.
My only problem with this game was that the combos were ridiculously too long.
C Lab i hated all those mid-air resets.

Love this game. I dabbled with 2 on the dream cast I think it was. This is the first title in the series I properly played and enjoyed.

✓ Step 1: Go back to the Comic Book art style.
✓ Step 2: Hire *Joe Madureira* (Go see his 90's X-Men stuff and what he's done lately, trust me, he's a BEAST)
✓ Step 3: Use Joe Madureira's style and implement it to Marvel vs Capcom: The Revival just like Streets of Rage 4 implemented *hand drawn animation.*

Umvc3's roster is the best and most diverse in the series. It's not just X-Men vs Street Fighter featuring Marvel and Capcom characters like mvc2.
I remwmber being in the store with my sister and my dad and we saw mvc3 and umvc3 we didint know the difference between them but we was like u always go for ultimate so we went with it
When we got this game we didint even have a ps3 and me and my sister had to wait till Christmas to play but it was worth it cuzz we also got uncharted 3 with it and soon we just randomly had hella games
It was hard to buy for like a year but it never disappeared. I bought the ps4 version maybe 2 years ago and play it regularly.

Part of the appeal of the MvC series IS seeing non-fighting game characters in it. Spider-Man, Mega Man, Zero and Dante are some of my go to characters in the MvC series and none of them originated from a fighting game at all. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Ken. He's my favorite Street Fighter character next to Chun-Li and seeing him in another MvC game would be awesome. But I can definitely understand why he was cut. The other characters in the game have more unique and versatile playing styles and the number of people who use characters like Viewtiful Joe, Dante and Phoenix Wright is crazy. Plus, there are tons of other games that has Ken in it so if I ever feel like using him, I'll just go play MvC2 or something.
The MvC series is kinda like Capcom's version of Super Smash Bros. You don't have to be a fighting game character to be in it.
Shuma gorath and Blackheart surely didn't have lasting appeal. They weren't featured heavy back in the day and have only just recently popped up sporadically
And now the game is fully revived with a dedicated mod support team adding over 40 characters. You love to see it.

It was alright, the most i got out of it was getting the bio info up on the characters, and drawing them in the many different colors you could get.

Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 is the greatest fighting game of all time. And even though I've lost my touch with the game with picking up other things, I still say that every time I grab my controller.
Also, RIP the canceled Doctor Octopus plans. That would've made for a fun character. There's always the next title!

Like I said in the original Marvel Vs Capcom 3, I love how Mega Man's fanbase lost their shit because Mega Man wasn't playable and Rocket Racoon was. Now Rocket's a household name because of those movies. When the next game came out, they even had a Funko Pop bundle of Mega Man X and Rocket. I don't know if that was to troll those players, but I take it as one.

There was a major as recently as March- K-Brad's Reflex.
Still, UMvC3 got killed for the mainstage by business decisions. Released UMvC3 just 9 months in November after MvC3's release in February for full price, in order to promote the Avengers film. Sales ended up suffering (vanilla sold 2.2 mil; UMvC3 sat at 600k about a year later).
Capcom also handled balance patches wrong. After given us regular balance patches based on community feedback (nerfed Sentinel; removed glitches; removed NON-TAC infinities), they were reluctant to nerd characters in UMvC3 without communication (they left Wesker who we mistakenly thought was top-tier at the time- good thing they didn't listen to us- but nerfed Pheonix Wright's- a low tier- invincible assist). They then said they would be at Evo to investigate TAC infinities, but then said they would leave them in the game. Then after later asking for community feedback for balance patches, they reneged on the promise of said balance updates.
Only to later reveal they were not going to be updating the game due to Marvel pulling their license.
The community kept the game alive despite the popular 'Mahvel is dead' tag and the developers saying they would no longer sponsor the game. As I said, there were majors as recently as March in a Covid-19 rife society. And was pulling bigger numbers in its last Evo main entries then many other new releases.
Firebrands other fighting game appearance was in SvC chaos. Fighting game debut? I think. He appears under the name Red Arremer as a final boss. Just a random fact
I liked MVC3 & UMVC3 I have owned them both at one point last gen & bought UMVC3 on PS4 as well.
Also MVC2 was good but it had some characters that were just palette swap's of other characters. lol
At first I was cynical with this release since it came so soon after the original (although I never bought the original either). I waited a little and got it at a good price. Once I got adjusted I grew to like this game. While the new characters on the marvel side were obviously put in to promote the movies and series I enjoyed playing with Ghost Rider (who was in my wishlist) and Dr. Strange who became one of my mains.

I noticed watching your videos that you never plug you Merchandise do you not get a good cut for selling t-shirts? Reason for asking because I was thinking about purchasing one in the near future.
The detail many neglect is the marvel character choices lay out as a time line of every upcoming marvel movies at the time - before guardians became a surprise hit (Rocket, Nova), before the fantastic four reboot failure (Doom, Super Skrull) and before Deadpool eventually got his own movie. The emphasis on marketing from the Disney side just got worse five fold in MVCI once that sweet Avengers money started rolling in.
RandomPath Nova wasn’t even in Guardians of the Galaxy. Neither was Super Skrull. And Deadpool’s movie came out in 2016, which is about five years after the game released, so to say that his aappearance here is product placement is just ignorant. Especially since Disney didn’t even have the rights to the Fantastic Four or the X-Men.
This game didn’t disappear and neither did X-men vs SF, COTA, mvsf and mvc1. There’s new content being uploaded daily by the mvc1 & mvc2 community.

the game was huge up until about 2017 when marvel infinite released. people thought that was gonna be the next marvel game that took over the FGC scene. Most people dropped marvel 3 for infinite when that came out. But sooner than we thought people started not liking the game... literally a couple months in and that game died super fast. Basically Marvel infinite killed MVC3 then it killed itself. People didn't make the jump back to marvel 3.

The Vita port was a technical marvel to behold as it ran on a 960*544 resolution at 60 frames a second.
MvC is not a Street Fighter spin-off but a spin-off from Capcom's work with Marvel in Arcade. The first game in the series only had X-Men, followed by X-Men vs Street Fighter then the Marvel vs Capcom games.
I didn't pay attention long enough to see if he'd mentioned that the reason Marvel phased out using XMen character was because of the movie deals with Fox and them not wanting to give too much free publicity, this was around the time they'd declared they's stop making XMen themed toys, both issues they reneged on.

(u)mvc3 did have a very lengthy, and successful run on the tournament scene. i caught the finals duting my first EVO visit when kaneblueriver won it. but, to me, no one was better than FChamp at the time as he blew minds and turned heads with his dormammu gameplay. no one anticipated that character, and therefore none could react to FChamps set ups accordingly. he made the game exciting by opening up new doors with a new character, where most people were still clinging to returning characters from mvc 2. i’d say no rush making that mvc infinite video 😉 now ima watch this again!

I think they were going to. In the days of future past stage, Mega Man was the only character not listed as missing or dead on a poster in the background. But I guess with the sales and politics, they decided to discontinue supporting the game.

That said, I do enjoy it, though I wish I wasn't alone in trying to play Heroes vs Heralds mode nowadays.
And it's always nice to know more about it (although personally I would've added "from shelves" to that title just to be even more accurate).
... U/MvC3 had fewer characters than MvC3. However, it U/UMvC3 had the highest number of new characters in the series- MvC3 huge roster consisted of a load of already existing character sprites.
