    SNK's death and rebirth clearly shows that sometimes, maybe a lot of the time, the employees and owners aren't the reason companies crumble. But the high management who're more worried about filling their pockets by selling the company than making the company work as they were hired to.

      Yeah, snk characters on capcom vs snk have rough edges unlike capcom characters. More effort were given to capcom character designs. For svc chaos, both sides are gorgeus, heck, they even made capcom characters looked better. Though cvs will always have the awesome background and sprites.

    SNK was very respectful with the way they treated Capcom's IP, the sprites are beautiful, specially Chun Li's, who is very stylish in this game. This was the last time we had a Ryu that looked like a proportionate human instead of a giantism patient made of 400 kg of muscle and a head the size of a pea.
    Funny enough, the worst sprites in the game are Athena's, who looks as if she came from an atari 2600 game, with no shades at all, just plain white color and yellow eyes. The scenarios were very bland, boring and lifeless, which is a shame coming from the same people that made the scenarios of the fantastic Garou Mark Of The Wolves.
    The gameplay however was a bit stiff, just as in Capcom Vs SNK, which is a result, I think, of the difficulty of balancing the signature gameplay quirks of each company. The frantic and pressure focused style of KOF would've destroyed the Capcom characters that are designed for a more deliberate ground control, so SNK had to tone down the agility of the combat to please the Street Fighter fans while preserving their identity.
    It's a comendable effort and hopefully we will see a new Capcom vs SNK in the near future, considering both companies are currently on a great roll.

    • @Scrubermensch
      @Scrubermensch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I disagree with the stiff gameplay part. It is not due balance, cause the Alpha series(mainly the third installment of the series) being as much or even more complex and pressure based as any KOF game.
      This masterpiece would've been the pinnacle of fighting game, if it was made by 96~98 SNK...

    • @chronology556
      @chronology556 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Luis Debnath it would have been interesting if Ryu and Ken and their Street Fighter ilk could roll, run, and hop, hyper hop, and super jump as a real ADV KOF’98 gameplay speed. Capcom vs SNK 2 did an okay job with giving SNK characters, Capcom type Street Fighter gameplay, but the medium attacks of SNK characters (strong, forward) lacked a lot of combo ability. They were just pokes.

      Ive always thought SNK had some kind of Story Mode around for SNK and Capcom characters in this game but due its rush in releasing it was lost... Id love to know that story in some sort of future destroyed Earth, knowing SNK mayber had something to do with Orochi winning

      "Ahead of it's time" is so misused and over used. This game used pretty much the same fight system from KOF 2002 but in 2003. How is that ahead of its time? SVC Chaos looked and felt outdated when it was released. It was stiff, sluggish and slow. It was poorly received because of it. Compared to Capcom Vs SNK 2 which was released in 2001 with a fight system that feels smooth, fast and crisp and it still feels that way now. SVC Chaos gets worse with age.

    • @elohym876

      @Sentinel 88 Sure, just ignore the entirety of what I wrote about the atmosphere of the game and point out something I never addressed, the fighting system. • @R-1988
      @R-1988 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elohym876 Fighting games aren't judged by "atmosphere" They are judged by the mechanics and there is nothing in its atmosphere that was "ahead of its time" as the sprites and backgrounds looked dated when it was released. "feeling of impending doom and dread" "it feels dark" all of this was done better by the Guilty Gear series on PS ONE with much better graphics and an inferior fight system. That game had visuals that were much higher in resolution for its time and no called it "ahead of its time"

      😗wait it would need XII explained as well, using the same engine. But distribution was funky as XII was a stripped down beta (limited roster, with tons of music as dlc). Vs XIII was a complete title, tons of unlockables, and an amazing roster. But the engine was marvelous, each character felt alive, and had their own rhythm. I miss its style, wish it was used in XIV.

    Anyway, about the game, I really love the new sprites in it. Guile, Shiki, Dmitry, the Martian, Chun Li, etc. simply look amazing. This game really deserves a lot more exposure than it got, but it was released at an odd time for SNK.

Getting your foot in the door as a content creator in an ocean full of content creators, it's next to impossible to garner an audience. I would say about 95% of people don't want to support a channel that has fewer than 20k subs. No one wants to actually be there in the beginning, but everyone wants to claim they were there...

    Serious Mr. Karate is actually canon. The first time Takuma used the Mr. Karate alias was when he was being blackmailed by Geese Howard and forced to work as his enforcer. He did so using the Mr. Karate alias, and was the last boss of the first Art of Fighting. The persona became more of a joke after he was defeated and freed from Geese. So the (regular) final boss for SNK's side of SVC Chaos was basically AoF1's final boss (who was NOTORIOUSLY hard).

      @@andrewortiz9226 Because the NeoGeo was a much more sensible purchasing investment when you consider that one machine outlasted the CPS-1, CPS2, CPS-3, and NAOMI and just required an update to the marquee and a new cartridge to swap between games from as far back as 1990 to as late as 2003, making it far more appealing to the arcades of lower income areas in Latin America compared to the bigger budget Capcom and Acclaim dominating US arcades. Paying the equivalent of a few hundred US dollars for a brand new game makes a lot more sense than a few thousand if you can get away with it.
      To be honest though, even as an American who grew up with Street Fighter Alpha, 3, Darkstalkers, and MvC2, I honestly nowadays just find SNK's fighters to be more fun. Real Bout 2, Garou, and KoF 2002 are really something special.

However I always thought that snk's fighters and character designs were a bit more cooler, alternative and maybe baddass for want of a better term. A bit like comparing pop music of the 90's to grunge and alternative rock.

    Actually the Grand Front Step, Gaurd Blowback and Hard Knockdown Throw don't consume a full bar of meter. Its actually something like 1/8th of meter.
    Also the game has a Cancel mechanic as well, but it can only be done when the power meter reaches "Maximum". You can cancel specials into other specials or specials into supers.
    HK+LP or forward+forward on block is the Grand Front Step
    LP+LK or HP+HK are the Hard Knockdown Throw
    LP+LK when normal thrown before you hit the ground is air recovery
    HP+HK on block is the Gaurd Blowback and works like a CD attack in KOF but doesn't do any damage

    To me this game is awesome! I actually like this more than Capcom VS SNK 1 and 2 mainly due to the graphics style reminiscing that of the KOF games (Particularly like you said, KOF 2002) And honestly, i like the roster choices in here as well. Although its still mainly SNK VS Street Fighter 2 (Like all the other basically), we at least got too see more Capcom characters, like Dimitri, Tessa/Tsubasa, Red Arremer/Firebrand (By the way, the BEST design for Firebrand I have ever seen to this day), Andre the Giant (Hugo of course), and most importantly, MegaMan/Rockman Zero (Also called Alpha in Japan). Better to have at least one Rockman rep in the SNK VS Capcom series than none because i feel Rockman should have been included somewhere somehow.
    And I also like it because of how the game feels and plays in contrast to Capcom VS SNK. It just plays like a KOF game and me liking the KOF series it was a great time playing this. I just play SVC Chaos like i play KOF (only without the dodging, rolling, running, and blow backs) just like i play Capcom VS SNK 1 and 2 like I play Street Fighter. I feel those who dont like this or prefer this may not only be due to graphical comparison, but also just subjective preference in gameplay. I dont think the game is perfect by any means especially given that characters in the SVC Chaos roster arent balanced well (Goenitz in example), but this is a solid fighter worth playing especially for those who like the KOF series.
    I just feel this game is kinda unfairly looked down and wasnt given a more fair chance by the general audience just because it was a new and anticipated crossover on older hardware. Yes theres no denying the Naomi and Dreamcast have more graphical power so they can produce more advanced visuals, but i dont think graphics alone is what make a game good or better, but the aesthetics or content, the feeling of the game, execution (which could have been better but given SNK's financial situation of course), mechanics, and replay value is what makes a game good or better. Especially when it comes to fighting games. Then worry about the graphics. You just dont wanna game to go through another Marvel VS Capcom Infinite situation where the game had a focus on the graphics (and online but thats irrelevant in this case) and then it wounds up flopping due to lack of things i mentioned before. Other than that take what i say with a grain of salt for this is just an opinion of mine.

    I was in Akihabara in 2018, and I bought a Japanese PS2 just so I can play this game again. It's a shame SNK doesn't seem interested in re-releasing it. They could fix a few things while they port if over, and maybe slap a couple new character in while they are at it... easy. (Evil Ryu and Shadow Lady and well... anyone from KOF really. Ash Crimson and Kusanagi?)

    It def has an interesting roster choice with the SamSho characters, Demitri, and Zero but it's a step down from CvS and even Neo Geo Pocket game. Gameplay should have straight up been KOF style, with multiple jumps, run instead of dash, close HP/HK for throw instead of LP+LK (and whiffing throws drains meter dafaq), and max mode should have been more KOF 2002 style instead of it automatically activating when you get a full bar. They were trying to appeal to SF players with those gameplay mechanics plus the 1-on-1 fighting but they were already turned off by the 4 buttons.

  • @Krendall2
    @Krendall2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why does everyone reverse the title and subtitle? Watch the game intro, it's clearly given as SVC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom.
    Also, Playmore IS SNK now, so to treat the game like it was made by a 3rd party developer is misleading at best.
    8:56 What the hell? Wouldn't Terry know who Choi is by now? Even if the two have never canonically met, Terry is friends with Kim. I'd image Kim would have mentioned Choi and Chang at some point. I feel like that conversation would've worked better if Ken replaced Terry.
    It's amazing how 2D graphics tend to hold up well even if they are kind of low-res and crude, while 3D graphics look aged so quickly.
    As for me, I loved this game. I loved the KoF-inspired engine and I thought it played very well. I also enjoy the look of the MVS/AES sprites, so seeing lower-grade character models didn't bother me at all. Besides, while the sprites themselves may not look as nice as CvS2, they are animated beautifully. One that caught my attention immediately was Balrog (Boxer). Instead of simply bouncing in place like he does in Capcom games, here he has a kind of sway from side to side. It's a very minor detail, but it's kind of thing I appreciate when it comes to the look of a game.

      But the game is a stunner like all late MVS/AES titles considering the late 1980s kit they ran on.

The cookie cutter sprites and stupid backgrounds are unsightly today. You could take any screenshot of SVC Chaos even today and still be impressed at its timeless beauty. To each their own, but the games are equally matched. The same can be said of CVS1 against the NGPC version. That pocket fighter is a masterpiece.
