Engelbert is one of the great crooners with such a smooth relaxing voice. His career has spanned almost 7 decades. His first hit song was "Release Me" in 1967. He has had many great songs including "The Last Waltz", There Goes My Everything", "Am I That Easy To Forget", "A Man Without Love", "After the Lovin'", "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize", "Winter World Of Love", "This Moment In Time", "Love Will Set You Free" etc.
Engel was no crooner…he had a three and a half octave range. He could sing opera! In the 80s Engel was an absolutely phenomenal performer. He danced and played piano 🎹. You should check out his performance in 1988 at the National Music Festival.
I honestly think Engelbert was a more talented singer and still is I liked him and Tom Jones both but Engelbert just has always been a much classier guy but his music is pure romance songs and some people may be turned off by that but I’m not at all I’ve been an Engelbert fan since I was 3 or 4 years old my parents had his and Tom Jones vinyls but I always gravitated towards Engelberts music more then and now !
" A man without love" is another great song by Engelbert, Born in 1960 these where the singers and songs I grew up listening to on tv and radio, along with Tom,Cilla,Petula, Dusty, Sandie, etc...Great singers, Great memories...👍👍👍
Grew up listening to him because my mom loved him. I went with mom to see him in concert when I was 17, nobody else would go, lol. It was a great concert! Good stuff! Check out Release Me and After The Lovin'. My mom's favorite.
"The Last Waltz" is a ballad, written by Barry Mason and Les Reed. It spent five weeks at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart, from September 1967 to October 1967, and has since sold over 1.17 million copies in the United Kingdom. In the mid-1960s, Reed began a successful songwriting partnership with Geoff Stephens which yielded such hits as "Tell Me When", a hit for The Applejacks; "Here It Comes Again" for The Fortunes; "Leave A Little Love" for Lulu; and "There's a Kind of Hush", a 1967 success for Herman's Hermits.
Thanks for reacting to this, Harri. Engelbert was one of my dad's favorite singers and it was through him that I became a fan. I've been hoping/waiting to see someone react to him. Tom Jones was a lot more of a showman, but Engelbert's smooth style was often overlooked. I believe it was Barry Mason and Les Reed who were the writers of this song. One of my favorite Engelbert songs is "My Wife The Dancer". I think you'd really get a kick out of that one. Its a little more up-tempo and fun. Thanks again, Harri! Cheers, from Saskatchewan, Canada.
Love this song, my mum loved it and it reminds me of her every time I hear it (which is quite often). Great reaction yet again, I watch quite a few but you're the best.
Engelbert Humperdinck was my big sister's favorite singer back in the day! And nothing against Tom Jones' looks, but at least according to the women in my family, he couldn't hold a candle to Engelbert. Who's better looking makes me no nevermind, but I will say I much prefer Engelbert's voice. Tom tried too hard, whereas Engelbert was always as cool as the other side of the pillow.
He was great friends with Elvis. If you listen to Elvis concert where hes sing Just Pretend, he is signing autographs and kiddingly ask the girl "whats your name, Englebert Humperdinck?"
Please release me, let me go by ENGLEBERT held his top spot against the Beatles Penny Lane /Strawberry Fields Forever that only made number 2 in 1967 for the fab four
Have u heard Release Me by Jerry Lee Lewis on sun records in 1959 played country style which was the intended format for the song.Nice honky tonk piano backing 2.09 min version.
Tom Mills was the Manager for Tom Jones ~ Engelbert Humperdink ~ Gilbert O'Sullivan ~ he saw an untapped market of housewives & professional women & cultivated artists that would appeal to them
This song brings back memories. Matt Monroe, in my opinion was one of the best crooners from this era - give a listen to Walk Away. But without a doubt the best song from the 60s was Arthur Lee and Love’s Alone Again Or. Do please share your thoughts on that. Thanks for giving some of these older songs an airing
Hi Mr. Harri, I love Mr. Engelbert; he sang more of the Standards or Show Tunes.. In fact I use his name when I asked what my name is; about 95% of the people have never heard of him.. (it is not his real name) ♠W.G.
The nerdie thing, is that Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck were good friends, they had the same manager, Gordon Mills, and at one time Engelbert was ‘signed’ to Tom Jones and Gordon Mills record label
I was totally in love with Engelbert, also Tom Jones, but Engelbert's voice just oozed sex and lust. They were not rivals, but friends and did perform together sometimes. Along with these two was a great singer from New Zealand, around the same time, named John Rowles. His most famous hit was Cheryl Moana Marie, which was covered by Englebert. You should look him up. Another good looking crooner that didn't become as famous but I believe all three still perform.
Tom Jones was hot while Engelbert was smooth & gentlemanly. Both were equally talented but as a little girl back then while I recognized the talent Engelbert had my heart not Tom Jones.
@@keithjones7390 Yes very witty, but in reality it was probably 30yr olds mums upwards who weren't into Beatlemania who were attracted to him. Also don't forget a good voice is a good voice regardless of music styles. All the best.
You might enjoy Englebert Humperdinck's (born Arnold Dorsey :-) ) songs "A Man Without Love" (1968) and "After the Lovin' " (1976), two of his bigger hits in the U.S. ... For your own pleasure, there's a TH-cam clip of Englebert and Tom Jones on a 1969 variety show, performing together and teasing one another. Englebert starts off singing Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and then takes a crack at Tom's hit "It's So Unusual." And then Tom takes a crack at Englebert's hit "The Last Waltz." And then they both join in together to duet on "My Way." Then Tom sings solo on "Proud Mary." th-cam.com/video/2o8r7upK2Ug/w-d-xo.html
Tom Jones wasn’t nearly as versatile performer as Engel was. Check out this performance in 1988 at the NEC for the International Music Festival. th-cam.com/video/4J8O16y0CXU/w-d-xo.html
This video is not the best version of this song, the best one he's outside and it was recorded in 1967 and of course it's black and white. I think he did write this because he met his wife at a dance, Bert was born in India because his father was stationed there and was a British Military Officer, his Mother was an Opera Singer. Engelbert Humperdinck is not his real name, just a stage name but, I think they could've given him a much better name. Bert, and Tom Jones, and Elvis Presley were all good friends also Elvis and Glen Campbell were very good friends as well and they all used to record a lot of each others songs that had been previously recorded by one of them !!!

Not a crooner... A singer can croon, a crooner can't "sing". Humperdinck's range was full range.

Went to many of his concerts.still sounding great at 80+ years!
My mother was in love with Englebert Humperdinck and Tom Jones. I remember this song from her records. Beautiful song🌺✌️
I remember this when I was young. He never got the respect he was due. Great analysis Harri

I love that velvety voice. Listen to ‘Am I That Easy to Forget’.

Winter world of Love is a good one !
Engelbert and Tom Jones both possessed such powerful voices. Engelbert just seemed somewhat smoother in terms of his delivery.
ENGELBERT, gran artista !!! Es de una voz maravillosa !!! ❤❤

What a great saying :) yeah I always felt Engelbert's performances seemed effortless.

Thanks for keeping great music alive!
I may be the only one here that actually saw Englebert perform live. Love his music, beautiful voice
Hello handsome would you please do more of Engelbert
so love this song always preferred him to Tom Jones
I love that you don't talk over the song or interrupt the song multiple times.
Love your reactions, sir :)
Please release me, let me go by ENGLEBERT held his top spot against the Beatles Penny Lane

Yes it's amazing that there must have been more 90 year old record buyers than Beatles fans! 😒

Recommend "There Goes My Everything" by Engelbert Humperdinck.
His real name is Arnold George Dorsey. Les Reed and Barry Mason wrote this song
Arnold Dorsey - aka Engelbert H
Great song
Try out Too Beautiful to Last by him. He really has a bunch more worth listening to.

Tunes
Theone I remember of his, from my big sisters playing it was "Please Release Me."
Never mind, we all have things we'd rather forget 😏
Engelbert was the last Great Crooner, and even smoother that Dean Martin.
Have u heard his 1st smash hit Release Me.It was so popular it kept the Beatles off the no 1 spot when Beatlemania was at its peak.
