You Get IT! What I've loved about April Wine for the past 40+ years is that they can grind the metal edge yet throw some blues and still croon some early classics. They were so able to cover all sides of rock and blues. I have all their albums pre-1990 and love them all. Such a talented band.
April Wine. Myles Goodwyn; what can I say. I've been a fan for 52 years. I've attended dozens of their concerts. Myles has always been my #1, favorite singer, songwriter and musician. I listen to his music almost everyday. Wonderful to see younger people discovering April Wine. Jim Clench, Steve Lang and now Myles Goodwyn 1948-2023, RIP
Thanks so much for reacting to April Wine! I'm Canadian and the first concert I went to was April Wine opening for Queen in 1975. April Wine sadly sold the publishing rights to all their music at the height of their popularity. April Wine broke up and eventually the money ran out and Miles being the main songwriter, had to reconstitute April Wine and they constantly toured and played in bars, community halls, and other small venues to try and pay the bills. April Wine was known for their impeccable live performances and the juggernaut of three lead guitar players. SUBSCRIBED, I needed this and your reaction today. Thanks again. 🎶✌️👉🇨🇦

I promoted a concert in1975 and I hired April Wine as the main act. I'd promoted other bands and the most difficult to deal with were bands on the way up but not there. They often had members and managers that thought they knew the business but actually didn't. Myles and April Wine were total pros. So very very nice to deal with. Lots of great canadian bands.. Chilliwack, Loverboy, BTO, The Guess Who, The stampeders, Triumph, Big Wreck, Tragically Hip, Big Sugar, RUSH, Brian Adams, Helix. We ve been pretty lucky growing up in CA to hear a regular mix of Canadian bands on our radios mixed with the American greats as well.
🥰 April Wine & Triumph were my two HS go to groups & was a rare California fan that loved their outstanding music, voices and beats. Most had not heard of April Wine as the group wasn't as overplayed on the radio like Rush was in CA. They were my very 1st concert in 1983 - also saw Triumph at the US Festival in 83 too! What a rockin' year that was! I never realized that I was such a fan of Canadian bands, (Billy Squire and Aldo Nova were other Chunuk rockers I liked) there was no Google around to tell us that then. Thanks for the review! "I like to Rock" is another great April Wine song too! Left a comment on your Triumph review too. 😘

They had a great soundm and were fantastic performers. Hughly under ap[preciated outside of Canada. Started out in Nova Scotia and moved to Montreal.
I’ve been a fan of April Wine since the early ‘70s…..still listen to them almost daily. They’re originally from my end of Canada..the Maritimes, and Myles lived here right up to when he passed recently. So glad you appreciate them. Thanks for the great review, and explanations.
@LastNamefirst-wv7jj I believe Myles was born in Woodstock ,New Brunswick. Then moved to Waverly I met Jim Henman a few years back, he was only on the first album, he played with Myles in The Termites, before April Wine, his cousins Dave and Ritchie Henman both played on the first two album too. Nice guy! Too bad Myles passed away. Great band!
Another great band from Canada .They are from Halifax Nova Scotia .Seen them many times when they played the bars here always put on a great show. RIP Myles Goodwyn
Actually, Myles was from Woodstock, NB. The rest of the band (the original lineup at least) were from Halifax. RIP to Myles who passed away late last year. 😢
Yes, yes, YES, the Goddess of vocals has found April Wine! Now we just to get you into Saga, Aldo Nova, BTO, Trooper, The Stampeders and The Hip (The Tragically Hip).
A.W. was my first big rock show, back in '81,with Harlequin opening up,as I recall... 2nd row centre seats, and,my ass never touched that seat once, for the whole gig. Close enough to feel the heat from the flash pots. I couldn't even hear properly for 3 days. A perfect intro to live music for a kid.
They’ve just got SOOO many hits it’s disgusting. One of the most underrated bands in history, these guys are seriously talented, especially Myles. RIP ❤ Weeping Widow, Sign Of The Gypsy Queen, Oowatanite, Lady Run Lady Hide, Rock n Roll Is A Vicious Game, the list goes on, they don’t miss, every song is great.
One of the great "unheard" of bands from this time period. The first time I heard them in the early 80's I was captivated, and everyone thought I was nuts. And yet, this stands up even BETTER today than it did back in the day. When I pick up a guitar I'm more than likely to start playing Big City Girls just because. Thanks for your insight, great fun!
Thank you for checking out April Wine! A great rock band with plenty of great songs. As a Canadian, I have *of course* seen them live, at a club right here in Calgary, Alberta, I believe in the late 90s / possibly early 2000s. I distinctly remember that when I was a pre-teen / early teen in the early to mid '80s, they also played a bar in my small home town of Lethbridge, Alberta (population around 50,000 to 55,000 at the time) several times. They spent their career as a hard-working touring band without much glamour. Seriously under-rated, IMO. Cheers!
I grew up in the 80s and 90s in Nova Scotia and got to really enjoy the music of Aprilwine. My parents took us to many AW concerts, they were fans from way back in the day. My Aunt married one of Myles brothers. We got in to a lot of shows for free. I never got back stage myself, but I did get to meet him a few times over the years. Thanks for this nice review of this under rated and underappreciated band. :)
Great Band, Great choice! I seen these guys live in Bismark North Dakota in 1981. It was an excellent concert! I love this song/band and, I LOVE your channel! Keep up the wonderful reactions! Watching from Missouri, US.
April Wine were second to none in rock ballads. There were only three artists that got five airplays of one song on the first day of MTV. The Who, Phil Collins and April Wine (Just Between You and Me) which provided a wonderful sending off for Myles as some reactors played it upon his death.
I love seeing your enthusiasm for bands/songs you are not familiar with but I haven't heard in a while. Canada has had some damn good musicians come out of it. Thanks for posting
This takes me back to 1980. We were in art class and somebody put this in the cassette player. (Yeah, I've reach "Old as dirt", status). I couldn't believe what a beautiful voice Myles had. He passed at 75, this year. Thanks, Myles. Perhaps if you want something heart felt, try" Rock n Roll is a vicious game". Myles and Wine really give to you in the heart.😎🎸🎸🎸.
April Wine was a band that never got the recognition they deserved. btw right there with ya on the old as dirt I'm 56 and the music from "our" generation will never be surpassed!
Roller and Rock n Roll is a Vicious Game are both from the album First Glance, which came out in '78. I bought it just after it came out. Foolishly, I got rid of it decades ago because of a few scratches.
Lots of love for all these Canadian bands from Wisconsin. We got to see a lot of these guys earlier than the rest of the US. I like all of the recommendations for future listening, especially "Just Between You and Me", which is probably my favorite ballad by a hard rock band.
Myles' voice was delicious and instantly recognizable. The dueling guitars made April Wine concerts such a treat. If you want to review another catchy banger, you can't go wrong with "Oooowatanite" (I can never remember how many o's are in that title).
My favorite April Wine songs as a teenager, about 40 years ago, were "Just between you and me" and "Sign of the Gypsy Queen" and "I Wanna Rock". There were several others I liked a lot too, but those caused me to not only get the vinyl album, but also the cassette so I could listen in my car.
Since I am from Ontario, Canada and grew up listening to all the bands you listed above, I am really enjoying the journey. Thanks for another great reaction.
Thank you sweetheart for playing this incredibly amazing and underrated band! Myles was so great! Please check out more as you'll definitely enjoy..cheers 🥂 🎶
Another awesome reaction & this one more than others for me growing up in Nova Scotia (where they're from) I've seen the band close to 20 times & even met some of them working in bars for 22 years. They had such a range of songs (& amount) that made so many people fans! Rip Miles ❤.
Never thought I would see a reaction to April Wine. They were a huge part of my high school years. Grew up in Northern Vermont about an hour from the Canadian border and two hours from Montreal. Local radio was crap and I listened exclusively to CHOM-FM out of Montreal. They turned me on to April Wine, Rush, Led Zepplin, Boston, Foreigner, and Pink Floyd. So many memories for this 60 year old.
I'm 59, and I grew up on the other side of Lake Champlain. My music experiences were very similar to yours. I had the benefit of a second Canadian rock music station from Ottawa, CHEZ-FM 106.1. But I listened to CHOM-FM 97.7 a lot as well.
I seen this exact line-up back in the seventies. Needless to say it was awesome! With this group they had three lead guitarist, which means they would switch guitar solos, licks and tricks, to where as i felt like i was at a tennis match, trying to keep up with all the back and fourth solos. Made me pay attention and get more involved with the song and entire concert! 🙂
April wine is the real deal. They still get tons of airplay on my classic rock statio herr in Canada. They have a deep catalogue. Great band live. Saw them several times.
Fun to know. They sure don't get played on the classic rock stations here in Denver, which is a crying shame. They sure as heck should be because they're fantastic. This tune is my fave, but I also like I Like to Rock a lot, and I've played both of those songs in bands I've been in.
For many of us east coasters growing up in the 70's, April Wine was our first taste of live pro-level rock and roll. Saw them several times over the tears at the old Sydney Forum and they kicked serious ass EVERY time.
Thank you soooo much for this great reaction. Like a lot of the commenters here, I too grew up listening to this awesome band and got to see them live as well. Your reaction brought back great memories.
It's funny how the big three 🇨🇦 rock bands that have been analyzed have front men with the ability to use high-pitched vocals. Coincidence or competing styles? They made it hard for tweens, teens, and even adults to follow along without cracking their own voices. I'm glad you got around to April Wine. They made a lot of songs you wanted to play in your car on dates.
a lot of male canadian vocalists had that tone at that time for some reason. Bill Henderson of chilliwack and Kim Berly the drummer (who sometimes sang lead) from the stampeders to name but two more, there were many. they could all play and sing back then. that high singing tone was a real thing though.
I heard Geddy say once that in the early bar days with poor p.a.'s and limited monitors the vocals had to be up in that register to cut through at volume
I think that Myles Goodwin himself (God rest his beautiful soul) would have adored the very kind and wonderful words you have used to describe this great song. Thank you
I heard recently that Myles never really thought of himself as a singer but as a song writer he just did it. Personally, I just melt when I hear his ballads. Such a sweet voice, who knows how to kick it when he decides to. Maybe listed to Like a Lover, Like a Song for contrast?
I truly enjoyed watching you, watch my favourite Canadian band. Back in the day, their concerts were fantastic and they played so loud, you could just feel Jerry Mercers drumming (never saw the band with original drummer Richie Henman) rumbling through your chest. Loved watching you enjoy this. ❤
Aw, love the song! ❤❤ One of my favourite April Wine songs. The part with the three guitarists soloing together always sounds to me like a waterfall of music. Great choice. The music of my youth. Yes, I am also as old as dirt! LOL
Being a hometown boy,April Wine were ALWAYS sure to hit us up,every tour. I must have seen them at LEAST 4 times, and,it was NEVER a disappointing gig, even when the album that they were touring FOR wasn't a particularly good record...they had a solid enough back catalogue to dig into. NEVER a bad show, even after Myles went and did his solo thing for a while. R.I.P. Myles, and, thanks for leaving behind so much to remember.
Loving when You react to Canadian artists, and have soooo many others coming to mind to give as suggestions, of multiple genres, from multiple generations 😊 But that being said, the one standing out to me right now, is *Chilliwack.* I think You'll love their vocals. And variations thereof. *"Whatcha Gonna Do?, My Girl, Gone Gone Gone, Arms Of Mary, Lonesome Mary, Fly At Night",* are all great choices. And I'd suggest any and/or all of those...then give a listen to my fave, *"Raino"* 😊 for comparison 😎
I first saw your reviewing Rush and Geddy Lee and was very impressed by your insight. Now, I can't stop smiling watching you review Myles Goodwyn and April Wine. Growing up Canadian, April Wine was pretty much required listening. Their harmonies and song writing were phenomenal and Gerry Mercer was one of the main reasons I became a drummer. If you want to hear an example of brilliant harmonies, the chorus of 'Say Hello' by April Wine is worth a listen. Enjoy!
Met Myles towards the end of his life when he was doing small crowds and personal stage events. He was a really great man and had a fabulous personality. I have an acoustic guitar that he signed. Very special. And YES, he had a fabulous voice. He was the lead singer and had amazing range. A band from Nova Scotia. Drummer from Newfoundland. Thank you boys for treating us to special rock music.
I am coming in late! April wine influenced me from the beginning. It surprises me how many people have never heard or know what this band offers. This video is one of the best guitar harmony plays between all the guitarist. I love it! RIP Myles! ❤
So happy that you decided to react to April Wine. They were one of my favorite bands growing up. Myles Goodwyn lived in our neighborhood (Montreal's West Island), the next street over in the early 70's. I remember seeing them play at my high school and at the local hockey arena. Great times. I think I still have their second album, "On Record" in vinyl somewhere in the basement. Some other good Canadian bands that I remember from that era are Mahogany Rush, Kim Mitchell, The Guess Who (Burton Cummings) and The Wackers. The latter was actually from California and moved to Montreal in 1972. Another band that you might want to react to is Bad Company or Free. They both featured Paul Rogers, my favorite blues/rock vocalist. I saw that The Charismatic Voice reacted to them last week.
I saw Myles with his trio not long before he passed... he still had it! You need to analyze April Wine's "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love"... it shows off the best of his vocal prowess, range and sensitivity. As much as Myles could belt a rocker like "Roller", few in music history could navigate a rock ballad and draw a listener into the story like Mr Goodwyn could... RIP, my Maritime brother!
I just love your enthusiasm of the songs that I grew up with and have heard a 100 times. The vocal analysis is a new perspective of my fav songs great reaction!
Hi Bethany. You made my day better today! I was having a bit of a downer day, but watching your reaction to April Wine made me smile from ear to ear! This is one of my favourite songs by them and also, my first live concert was seeing them in Toronto in the 80's. Thanks so much for this!!!
So glad you checked out April Wine, they're from my part of Canada, on the east coast, saw them live a few times! Myles Goodwin had a great voice, he could sing rockers but he could sing the ballads too. Check out all their 70's stuff, Stand Back is a good starter album, a mix of rockers and a couple great ballads as well. Cheers!
I'll say it! Big Fan and they had many hits, lots of love ballad songs. How ever 3 nights opening for Rush, Maple Leaf Gardens. They came out the first night and performed many ,if not all their, sappy songs. Well, it's a Rush crowd and got BOOOOOED unmercifully!! The next two night they Just Rocked the place with their rocker songs. Roller was one that was sooo powerful!
I can't say how many times I've seen "My first concert was April Wine" For me it was the Halifax Metro Centre around 1980 (not sure), opening act Red Ryder (Tom Cochrane) with their hit White Hot. I don't recall them doing Lunatic Fringe which came out in 1981.
Your expression at 11:02 made me fall out of my chair. So, I get to listen to one of my favorite bands and watch a beautiful talented woman react to it with joy is a gift only the Internet can provide. "Say hello" is one of my all time favorite April Wine songs. I think it's 6/8 time. Hypnotic.
Man, how lucky am I to watch my favorite TH-cam reactor, who is so Gorgeous 😍 and musically knowledgeable to react my favorite Rock band. Please stay in this Rabbit hole. They're just so good. 💯🔥🎸🎶🎵 HAPPY MONDAY 🫵♥️😄😉
I discovered April Wine in the late '70s at 12 or 13 years old. They really came into the commercial success with Nature of the Beast. That triple guitar harmony lead and rhythm is such a trade mark for them.......without over powering the songs. And Miles is a great vocalist. Bass and drumming keeps it all together with that foundation. Still love them. RIP Miles.
Thank you for hearing this out! ❤ I've seen them 5 or 6 times, and one thing that stuck out is that I think they may have been louder than Motorhead. And the loudest crowd I've ever heard was at one of their shows.
They performed in my junior High School Gym near Montreal. One might easily dismiss them then but the music rose above and beyond making them into a stellar Canadian musical ensemble.
I was fortunate enough to see them a few times and one time front row. What a great concert with such a variety of songs. Rest in peace Myles - the songs and vocals live on 😊
I live in Montreal Quebec Canada and well I was lucky enough to go see them live at "The Forum" at their peak with the Nature of the Beast tour and I tell you what they were just so darn good , I still remember it like it was yesterday and well we are talking over 40 years ago.

@@MrCanuck111 he moved there when he was very young
Yes, yes, YES, the Goddess of vocals has found April Wine! Now we just to get you into Saga, Aldo Nova, BTO, Trooper, The Stampeders and The Hip (The Tragically Hip).
MaxWebster / Kim Mitchell ?
A.W. was my first big rock show, back in '81,with Harlequin opening up,as I recall...
The early stuff is FANTASTIC!
YOU ARE 100% CORRECT!!!
Underrated Canadian Band!! Seek out some of their ballads, Myles has a phenomenal vocal rage
Totally agree!
Cheers!
April Wine one of the best.
Nice to hear a rock reaction of a singer who isnt just a heavy metal screamer. This guy has some pipes.
57 here. We're not old as dirt, yet.😁
@@dianajemison105 oldies but goodies!
Roller and Rock n Roll is a Vicious Game are both from the album First Glance, which came out in '78. I bought it just after it came out. Foolishly, I got rid of it decades ago because of a few scratches.
We had April Wine on 8-track, that was all we had in the car, 8 track recorder and some blanks from Radio Shack
Such a great voice and a underrated band.
Oowatanite is sung by bassist Jim Clench.
Agreed. But it is "I Like to Rock".
@@chrisclanton4430 Wanna Rock is on Nature of the Beast
God, I need to listen to my April Wine records. Always loved his voice and phrasing.
Since I am from Ontario, Canada and grew up listening to all the bands you listed above, I am really enjoying the journey. Thanks for another great reaction.
My favorite band of all time. They toured Canada often and I last saw them perform 4 yrs ago in my hometown of st johns
Thank you sweetheart for playing this incredibly amazing and underrated band! Myles was so great! Please check out more as you'll definitely enjoy..cheers 🥂 🎶
Canada is so underrated for the band's they produce the quality is really up there with the British and so overlooked. It's true ❤
Just between you and me. One of the bands biggest hits. Great song
Another April Wine fav of mine is "All Over Town."
I luv your reactions- I learn so much about the art of singing from your videos. Great job!
Agreed. That's a great song.
Another awesome reaction & this one more than others for me growing up in Nova Scotia (where they're from) I've seen the band close to 20 times & even met some of them working in bars for 22 years. They had such a range of songs (& amount) that made so many people fans! Rip Miles ❤.
Technically, three of the bband members are from Montreal and two from NS, including Myles.
Great band, especially live. Got to see them 3 times. So good. Mercer was a beast!!
Awesome seeing another Canadian great rock band.
God, I had forgotten how good "April Wine" was.Another great Canadian band that was not seen for their talent
April Wine are legends in Canada. R.I.P. Myles
Ditto! 🇨🇦 🍁
April Wine is fantastic. Grew up hearing it a lot in the 70s but in Canada we probably got a lot of extra radio play since they were Canadian.
One of my favourite bands growing up in Canada. Saw them live in 1980 when I was 16. What a treat! What a sound.
My first concert was April Wine, they were the opening band but I was really there for them . 13 yr old me was blown away
Love your enthusiasm. April Wine is
phenomenal. Shotdown, I Like To Rock and on and on. Fabulous library of music, you won’t be disappointed.
Silver dollar.
Saw them several times throughout the Late 70’s, early 80’s. One of the best live bands ever!! Hopefully your a fan 💪💪
Thank you
Jesus you brought a tear to my eye…
LOL
I saw them live in Prince George, BC when I was 13. I’m 62 now and still love their music. RIP Myles.
NEVER a bad show,even after
Myles went and did his solo thing for a while.
R.I.P. Myles, and, thanks for leaving behind so much to remember.
I hear ya .. I grew up with Rush in my back yard ... an amazing sensation having one of these epic bands on your doorstep
Thank you for shining a spotlight on April Wine. They are so underrated.
First concert I ever got to see at the Forum. Was 14. This is a great iconic canadian band. Distinct vocals.
I am so happy to see April Wine on the reaction list! Love them!
Wooohooooooooo!!!!!
Myles has such a clean voice. Been waiting for this one. Rock on, Garth!!!
It was so good to finally hear some love for April Wine and Myles! You made my day, thank you!
Loving when You react to Canadian artists, and have soooo many others coming to mind to give as suggestions, of multiple genres, from multiple generations 😊
But that being said, the one standing out to me right now, is *Chilliwack.*
I think You'll love their vocals.
Saw them live 3 times in the 70's and they were fantastic.
April Wine, Triumph, Rush, maple syrup…you get the idea. These were my formative years with cassettes and 45s as staples. Thanks for this.
I'm originally from the West Island too (DDO). You?
@@terryomalley1974 I grew up in Pierrefond, went to Riverdale High.....
@chrishonkakangas3808 Ahhh, I was 14 when my dad's company relocated us ro St. Catharines l, but I did go one year to PC.
I sent him a video of my youngest daughter singing I like to Rock and he posted it on his page. They have so many great songs. Keep em coming
The vocal analysis is a new perspective of my fav songs
great reaction!
Love your reactions! Saw this band in 82 in Germany at a festival and they were tremendous!
My first concert was April Wine back in the eighties. Awesome band great times! RIP Myles
HAPPY MONDAY 🫵♥️😄😉
I discovered April Wine in the late '70s at 12 or 13 years old. They really came into the commercial success with Nature of the Beast. That triple guitar harmony lead and rhythm is such a trade mark for them.......without over powering the songs. And Miles is a great vocalist. Bass and drumming keeps it all together with that foundation. Still love them. RIP Miles.
Rip Myles Goodwin didn’t realize he passed away until this post and I looked him up
I am glad you are enjoying April Wine, formed in Waverly, Nova Scotia, Canada ,saw them live, a lot in the early 80s! RIP Miles Goodwin!!
Thank you for hearing this out! ❤
I've seen them 5 or 6 times, and one thing that stuck out is that I think they may have been louder than Motorhead. And the loudest crowd I've ever heard was at one of their shows.
Just Between You and Me
You want to hear Myles sing? OMG my fav song since the 80s he's so good❤🇨🇦
The biggest song on the opening day of MTV along with The Who's "You Better You Bet" and Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight".
My fav outro ever....wonderful band who along with Triumph flew under the radar for too many.
Oh my goodness my memories are flaming up! April Wine was so amazing!thank you Canada!🇨🇦♥️🇺🇸
Canada AGAIN!!! April Wine formed the soundtrack of my younger years...so grateful for the music.
Canadian Guitar Gods🤘🤘🤘🇨🇦✌️🙂
Greenway is American
As famously quoted previously by yourself..."Canada for the Win...Again!!"
They performed in my junior High School Gym near Montreal. One might easily dismiss them then but the music rose above and beyond making them into a stellar Canadian musical ensemble.
I was fortunate enough to see them a few times and one time front row. What a great concert with such a variety of songs. Rest in peace Myles - the songs and vocals live on 😊
was a big fan back in the day, saw them live as an opening act for Nazareth. They sounded great. Thanks for the reaction!
I live in Montreal Quebec Canada and well I was lucky enough to go see them live at "The Forum" at their peak with the Nature of the Beast tour and I tell you what they were just so darn good , I still remember it like it was yesterday and well we are talking over 40 years ago.
