I really appreciate when people take the time to make videos like this. I am going to be attempting this fix after I recently destroyed my battery by using my phone outside in sub-freezing temperatures.
Though I am no expert in Li-On tech, my battery does say not to heat it past 45 C. So this might be the only area that is of concern because the readout says nearly 70 C in this video. Another tutorial states to drain the battery down to at least 25%, so maybe that reduces the risk?

one of my battery glue tabs broke, it's really frustrating, but with patience I managed to replace the battery easily. Took me around 1h30min

Thank you, my phones battery decided to finally start melting things and causing smoke so I took it out and am ordering a new one. I really hope it's not too late for my phone.

Thank you Geardo for your very informative video. 😀
With your help I have changed the battery, but infortunately I think I have purchased a faulty battery. 😮‍💨
I just have a "?" symbol appear on the screen during testing.
I have repeated the procedure to make sure I have installed the battery connector correctly and it seems OK.
I have put the phone "on Charge" just to make sure the battery is not too flat.
My original battery became swollen with probably too much charging.

I wanna say T3 or T2. The regular ifixit repair kit doesn't work and it's a star shaped so it's one of the Ts. However the kit only goes down to T4 and T4 is still bigger than the screws.
Edit 1: Got it! According to the ifixit google pixel 5 battery replacement guide, it's a T3. I just ordered one and I'll update this comment once it arrives.
      Edit 2: Confirmed T3 screwdriver.

About 150F will do for the heating pad and leave it about 5-10 minutes, but I recommend using a heat gun. Just make sure you keep it moving so it’ll soften the adhesive without damaging the LCD within the screen.

First, you did a wonderful job making the video. Felt easy to follow.
Wondering if you could help me troubleshoot. After connecting display, I turned on display for screen test and there is one pink and several white vertical lines running through the display. There is no visible cracks or damage to the display. I have disconnected and reconnected the display several times hoping I just didn't connect it correctly. There is no visible damage to the LCD connector. Is there something I could have done wrong to cause this?

    • @DIYGeardo
      @DIYGeardo  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Seems like screen got an extra force or some sort of damage while removing. Most of the times lines are happening due to a screen damage. You can try with another screen. But overall these designs are not great for repairs. Specially screen removal for the battery replacement.

@@RayThackeraywhat a legend. I thought your other comment was a joke, and the creator's response (emmmm) was hilarious.
But since you're apparently real... RIP your phone, I'm sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation, I've destroyed more than one piece of electronics with a bit of amateur attempted repair work. Most notably a PS2 in highschool after a failed Japanese region mod. pity. I accidentally bricked a laptop once too attempting to change a screen.
I've successfully fixed other things, but there's no shame in hiring out a project that doesn't look like I'm 100% confident I could pull it off without setting fire to the house and spilling piping hot gravy all over myself. God speed brother, I suppose one of us here in the comments needed to set fire to their phone on accident while attempting to follow this video. Thanks for taking one for the team.
