I really appreciate when people take the time to make videos like this. I am going to be attempting this fix after I recently destroyed my battery by using my phone outside in sub-freezing temperatures. Though I am no expert in Li-On tech, my battery does say not to heat it past 45 C. So this might be the only area that is of concern because the readout says nearly 70 C in this video. Another tutorial states to drain the battery down to at least 25%, so maybe that reduces the risk?

one of my battery glue tabs broke, it's really frustrating, but with patience I managed to replace the battery easily. Took me around 1h30min
Thank you, my phones battery decided to finally start melting things and causing smoke so I took it out and am ordering a new one. I really hope it's not too late for my phone.
Thank you Geardo for your very informative video. 😀 With your help I have changed the battery, but infortunately I think I have purchased a faulty battery. 😮💨 I just have a "?" symbol appear on the screen during testing. I have repeated the procedure to make sure I have installed the battery connector correctly and it seems OK. I have put the phone "on Charge" just to make sure the battery is not too flat. My original battery became swollen with probably too much charging.
I wanna say T3 or T2. The regular ifixit repair kit doesn't work and it's a star shaped so it's one of the Ts. However the kit only goes down to T4 and T4 is still bigger than the screws. Edit 1: Got it! According to the ifixit google pixel 5 battery replacement guide, it's a T3. I just ordered one and I'll update this comment once it arrives. Edit 2: Confirmed T3 screwdriver.
very hard to do. Never use metalic tool to extract the battery !!! the screen connector is very breakable. i've broken some little connector and now my phone is out of order :(

was it your first replacement, I learned over the years that smartphones are like women, we must be gently and caring 🙂
Thank you so much for this video! It was a bit nerve wracking, but your video was so well done and helpful that I was able to change the battery without having done so before on this phone. The narration was excellent.
About 150F will do for the heating pad and leave it about 5-10 minutes, but I recommend using a heat gun. Just make sure you keep it moving so it’ll soften the adhesive without damaging the LCD within the screen.
What should I do if the phone won't turn on after the battery replacement? I can get the phone to go into fast boot menu but thats it. I can't get thephone to boot up to main screen. Help!
Somehow u corrupted the ROM maybe touched something to circuit board while battery was still connected and shorted out the OS ......sorry... probably need a new board....IDK if u had custom bootloader or not....if u did reflash factory ROM
First, you did a wonderful job making the video. Felt easy to follow. Wondering if you could help me troubleshoot. After connecting display, I turned on display for screen test and there is one pink and several white vertical lines running through the display. There is no visible cracks or damage to the display. I have disconnected and reconnected the display several times hoping I just didn't connect it correctly. There is no visible damage to the LCD connector. Is there something I could have done wrong to cause this?
Seems like screen got an extra force or some sort of damage while removing. Most of the times lines are happening due to a screen damage. You can try with another screen. But overall these designs are not great for repairs. Specially screen removal for the battery replacement.
Does this guy offer services to the public? I've been looking for an expert to change the battery on my p5, im too paranoid to take it to a random phone repair man. Did someone in the comments say hes in Australia? Just bought a p8 for my partner and honestly, for my use there is zero advantage over the 5 plus it is bigger and heavier and no fingerprint reader
Meh, I really abused my Oppo Find X3 Pro and its still rock solid ... barely touched the Pixel 5 and the screen snapped. The Quality in components is vastly shit in comparission. Feels like the Pixel was made with - No Repair in mind. I will keep that in mind for the next purchase for sure ...

@ yes it was.
I understand better then. I don't know how to do with women. I'm not used to it 🤭🤣🤣
It's true use plastic panel tool to pry battery not metal
Do you have any suggestion for a battery replacement?
A battery company or a website to find it?
I am looking for a battery for Pixel 5 and pixel 3XL.

Hi, where do you buy genuine google pixel 5 or 5a batteries other than ifixit?
Is it possible to use the pixel 5a battery in pixel 5?
It is not compatible with pixel 5a, your location, we can get you the genuine batteries

can i use hair dryer for heat gun?😅
Yes, Possible
@@DIYGeardo I want to ask again, will the GPixel 5's IP68 certification be lost after repairs? Is there a way to prevent ip68 from being lost?
@@PlayVictim306 yes it will loose. To keep it you need to go with the official repair centre.
Oma so happy that all new phones in EU will need to have an easy replaceable battery. They make it so complicated to do this.
Four more years and never know what will happen prior to that. ✌️
Where u from?
Australia
Damn thats hard
how can i ship the battery to india
There are some methods to ship
The best phone Google has built but unfortunately also one of the most difficult.
I think its time for a new one. :(
Best in terms of Size and Feeling but Components are really shitty to repair even compared to Chinese Phones of the usual calibre.
They couldn't have made it more difficult. God damn.
Yep kind of yes
I accidentally pierced my old battery wrap and it immediately set fucking fire to the whole schebang. What a disaster.
