    I tried Sony xm5 and Bose qc 45 and sure Sony xm5 had more feature and maybe a little better noise cancelling with about the same sound quality to me but with the qc 45 were just so much more comfortable to me and more Convenient to me that it could stay stable on my head without me noticing. That’s why I returned the xm5 for the qc45. But I would say if your there for mic clarity xm5 has 8 mics for clear phone calls

      same here... I sold the xm5 and bought qc45, qc 45 is not that hot, and much more comfortable, with music on, I would say you can't hear the difference in ANC. ... but have to admit, xm5 has better wind noise cancellation. but if you just sit there, the qc45 is much much more comfortable. if you have to work more than an hour in a cafe, qc 45 is better... just turn on the music to block the noise better

  • @Squidboyy
    @Squidboyy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Very good review and comparison! Was actually curious about this video and it didn’t disappoint.
    Both headphones do some things better than the other and that’s because the manufacturers are kinda aiming to slightly different kind of consumers and for each of these consumers both headphones are excellent depending on their personal preferences and use cases.
    The QC45s are still the most comfortable ANC headphones one can buy mainly because of the larger and tilted earcups inside which fits even the largest ears but also because they’re a tiny bit lighter.
    The sound is subjective and you pointed it out excellently that it really is personal preference and especially the kind of music one chooses to listen to. If you listen more hard rock or house music then the XM5s would sound much better to you, but if you’re listening to literally any other kind of music then the QC45s do a much better job at instrument separation and accuracy.
    One last thing I would like to point out is the construction of the headphones.
    As I believe I said before as well, the QC45s headband is made out of metal just like the previous QC35s. What this means is that, in a few years if the top cushioning and padding start scraping away and look bad, you can literally cut it off with scissors and buy and install a brand new one extremely easily and by doing so you can also see that the headband is metal all around under the plastic housing which also gives the headphones very high flexibility without the danger of snapping the headband in two because metal doesn’t do that.
    I’m not honestly sure what lies underneath the headband cushioning on the XM5s but it certainly doesn’t feel as flexible or as resistant as the Bose’s and I’m pretty sure it would be pretty difficult to replace whatever cushioning the headband is covered in as it doesn’t look to be user replaceable whatsoever so you might just get stuck with it for the entire lifetime of the headphones which honestly isn’t a good thing, not to mention that it also kinda creates a hard spot on the head.
    That’s why I would consider also these things when spending that kind of money on an ANC pair of headphones which are meant to be as comfortable as possible for as long as possible but also it’s consumable materials such as all the cushioning and ear pads easily changeable by the end user.
    Overall great comparison!

    • @DelonteM
      @DelonteM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Welcome back! I was definitely waiting to see what your thoughts were. I agree, the headphones are definitely made for specific types of listeners. I have no issues with the QC45 build quality and I love the fact that the QC45 still uses the clicking mechanism. I’m very OCD about having the headphones the same length on both sides. I also love the fact that you can get right back to where you were a lot easier with the clicking mechanism. The QC45 are definitely one of the most comfortable pairs of headphones I own, hands down. I hope they look more at comfort with the updated Bose 700 headphones as well! I really appreciate you coming back and sharing your thoughts!

    • @Squidboyy
      @Squidboyy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@DelonteM I tested many headphones in the past year and for me personally the sound and comfort are the most important factors. When I tested the Bose 700s I was kinda disappointed in both the sound and the comfort, the QC45s sound is clearer and crisper and the comfort is unmatched. The 700s unfortunately are a bit too tight on the head which maybe is good for people who like running for example but it just isn't that comfortable for long periods of time. The 700s maybe don't look like but I can honestly tell that their earcups are a few millimetres smaller than the earcups on the QC45s which kinda slightly touch my ears in the corners enough to make me not buy them, but of course I hoped the XM5s wouldn't have this issue but they certainly do unfortunately, the predecessors XM4s have more spacious earcups than the XM5s which doesn't make sense why Sony made them like this.
      The XM5s also look a little bigger on the head so they stick out a bit more while the QC45s are let's say sleeker looking.
      I forgot to touch a bit the ambient sound feature which both headphones do a great job at but with the Sony's it's a bit odd that you have to keep your palm on the cup for as long as you speak which makes my arm want to fall off after a few seconds while on the QC45s you just press the button and it stays on until you press it again to go back into ANC mode, which is much more practical. The speak function on the XM5s which turns ambient sound on when you start speaking was never perfect and it always detects other voices or sounds which is quite annoying and makes that feature unusable especially if you like singing along with your music or speak to yourself because who doesn't do that at some point haha

    • @DelonteM
      @DelonteM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Squidboyy I don’t really use the speak to chat feature either, lol. I know people that swear by it, so I had to include it. If you sing along with your music, don’t use it. I use the quick attention feature a lot. This is one of the features that I thought would be a gimmick, until I seen how useful it really is. You can press the BC/Ambient button to have a full conversation without the hand on the ear cup. The quick attention feature is for quick items. The QC45 headphones are definitely one of the most comfortable headphones out. My ears don’t touch at all using the QC45 headphones. A great pair of headphones for long listening sessions. I prioritize sound when searching for audio equipment. People have different reasons for why they choose their audio equipment, but for me, sound is king.

    • @patricknelson
      @patricknelson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Squidboyy Dude, same camp on NC700’s (and I’ve also had QC35, XM4 and XM5, considering QC45). The clamping force provided zero overall benefit vs. other headphones (albeit maybe needed due to weight). That is: Less comfortable AND less clamping. So, far inferior to their predecessor in terms of clamping/comfort/hold.
      100% with you on the ears situation; same experience w/ XM4 vs. XM5 and the NC700’s. And “speak to chat”; good idea, horrible in practice. Yep, you mumble to yourself or, more likely, simply sing with the music - just cuts it off. That’s not a good experience. Over complicated. Probably also the reason my XM4’s started bugging out (in phone calls, the mic mutes but ONLY once you start talking, so weird).
      p.s. The Sony’s are configurable with their button on the left. One slight upgrade from XM4 to XM5 is that you can configure that button so that 1 simple press toggles between ANC & passthrough (whereas the XM4 requires you to cycle through 3 total settings). Not sure why they didn’t do this by default!! You end up with people like yourself not even realizing this was possible, which is such a dumb design.

    • @patricknelson
      @patricknelson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DelonteM Yeah, priorities vary. Like in my use case (office work), I want headphones I can use all day working 10hrs in front of my computer (with breaks) and can use my computer and my iPhone or iPad and also use for phone calls. For computer/Zoom meetings, I ditch Bluetooth entirely and use a third party mic (in my case, a wireless ModMic right now). So, that means that sound quality and ANC are important to me (especially ANC for productivity and focus, I love to cancel out some of the clicking of my mech keyboard). Also, it’s ability to switch between 2 devices. It’s ability to have working microphones when I’m not using the ModMic on the computer (ahem XM4) and then passthrough, which I use a lot when getting up and having chats with folks or to just be aware of my surroundings when doing stuff.

      @DelonteM  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for taking the time to watch. The QC35 ii were one of the best headphones when released. The QC35 ii headphones still sound good and as long as you are ok with the older tech in the headphones, use them until they stop working! The Bose QC45 headphones are using Bluetooth 5.2 which brings a lot more to the table than Bluetooth 4.2. For example, you get more Bluetooth range, lower latency when playing video games or streaming, and the connectivity between devices is a lot stronger with the versions of Bluetooth through 5.2. Also the Bose Connect app is used with the QC35 ii. The Bose Music app is used with the more recent headphones which gives you a little more control with things like an EQ. Both headphones sound good and both are really comfortable. If you don’t see a need for the newest tech as of yet and the headphones still work for you, keep them going until they become a problem. I hope this helps!

    I wished there was a bigger focus towards the EQ settings on the QC45 as it was something that it did not include on launch, while Sonys came with it on default.
    I’m considering buying new headphones now and I want to get the QC 45 (build quality/comfort) however I tried them out before and I wasn’t a fan of how “flat” they sounded. I’m so curious to know if the EQ made a substantial difference in its overall sound. If there was noticeable difference then I’m really willing to pick up a pair
    I’m coming from a XM4, so I like some “oomph” in my sound 😅

    • @DelonteM

      The EQ definitely makes a difference, but if you are coming from the XM4 and want the bass that those headphones provide, I would look more so to the XM5... The Sennheiser Momentum 4 are another pair of headphones I would recommend if you want good bass as well as a good detailed pair of headphones that are a little on the bright side. I have a few videos and shorts on the Momentum 4 as well. The EQ does make the QC45 better, but they are still a more balanced or neutral pair of headphones. I have both XM4 and XM5, considering QC45. I also have and still use the old QC35 and even previously owned (and ditched) the NC700’s. The issue with Sony’s XM4/XM5 line for me I noticed is that they may be over complicated. I’m convinced the weird bug in my XM4’s (relating to microphone, which mutes *after* you start talking!) is due to the complexity of the software/electronics, thus the failure. I feel like they focused WAY too much on features I (and probably others) may not care about, like 360 audio, “speak to chat” (which is *super annoying* AF to me, nice in some situations, but if you even mumble to yourself at all, it just kills your music, lol), their “adaptive sound control” where it varies depending on where you are or whatever… c’mon. Then there are _downgrades_ in how it switches between devices from XM4 to XM5. The XM5’s will _interrupt_ what you’re listening to (say, a zoom meeting where every word counts!) with a stupid “ding” sound from your iPad. Seriously… NC700’s had similar issues with being overly complex, but it’s been so long, I’ve happily forgotten about my frustrations there. The QC35’s were blissfully simple, man. The XM4’s were very good overall and not annoying (in terms of bugs) aside from the particular failure of the mics/firmware that I had after a few years. 😞
    And that’s not to mention the comfort. My ears are a little big, I guess. The XM4’s were ok in that department (not as good as QC35’s) but the XM5’s rub on the inside. Also, their ear pads do NOT seal as well as the XM4’s which are softer (compressible, that is) for me because I wear eyeglasses. So that kneecaps some of the ANC as well. So far, a frustrating experience at a price tag of $400 vs. the $230 I’m considering now for the QC45’s.

  • @patricknelson
    @patricknelson ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry for the third rant, lol, but… XM5’s volume synchronization across devices, I think you maybe touched on it at the end (or maybe that was something else): That’s a huge annoyance for me vs. the XM4’s which just left that alone. Specifically, what I noticed happening was I’d have my PC at 30% (say, loud music) and then my iPad at 60% (say, quiet video). Going from PC to iPad, I’d turn it up to 60%. But when I switched back to my PC and played my music, immediately as soon as I started playing, _then_ the volume would jump from the previous 30% to 60% and then hurt my ears. No way to turn that off that I could find. So. Friggin’. Annoying.
    Yet another example of being over complicated. Just be headphones, dang it.

    • @DelonteM
      @DelonteM  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate you taking the time to watch! I think you would enjoy the QC45 headphones. Except I would wait to see if they bring out the new generation NC700. Those headphones are heavily due for an update and I’m sure they are going to be releasing something special. The one negative with the QC45 is the fact that the app is the same… You will need to sign into the app to use it, which is ridiculous. I plan to make a video about this as well, but the only reason apps want you to log in is to build a profile on your listening experiences. The QC45 ear pads are larger and deeper, Bose generally has some of the most comfortable pairs of headphones. The Sony headphones have a ton of features, while the Bose headphones are more simpler. The Bose app has gotten a lot better with its consistency after a few updates. I would say download the app, do what you need to do in the app, then get rid of it altogether (until you need it again). I’ve been doing that with the apps that require you to sign in and it has been good. You don’t need the app again until you need to make changes. l have a video coming discussing the mod mic as well. Really nice mic that is severely underrated… I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences, hopefully it helps the next person who reads this.

  • @patricknelson
    @patricknelson ปีที่แล้ว

    p.s. Adding to my other comment, but top level: The thing that drive me *insane* with the NC700’s was the new app/software, believe it or not. At the time, they wouldn’t even let you use the app unless you signed into it. It was buggy. It required login every week or so. That is so user hostile, because that means now I have to *wait* for login to complete when opening the app: even if I’m already logged in, I have to wait for it to hit the server, validate my session/login, etc. Then you can use the app. But what if you’re offline? What a huge PITA and such bad UI/UX.
    Do they still require that? If so: Core to my other point, once again: Over complicated. Nice thing about the QC35II’s is that at least they don’t require that either. Simplicity is key.

      Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! If you are focused on noise cancellation, the Bose QC45 currently have the crown. That could change when Bose finally releases the next generation Bose 700 headphones, which is due for an upgrade. If we are looking at right now, the QC45 is the noise canceling king. The headphones are also one of the most comfortable pairs of headphones on the market. With the QC45 you would not have to compromise comfort or noise cancellation. The sound is pretty good as well. The most important thing is balancing the sound between details retrieval and close to neutral. If anyone familiar with sennheiser momentum then you understand what is actually sound for audiophile. But it’s ANC is not good enough. But another headphone who have sennheiser momentum like sound is apple’s AirPod Max, but the the problem of this headphone is it’s low frequency (below 400hz) is not optimised properly so is anyone who like acoustic like sound or vocals only then AirPods Max is perfect. But it’s has no built in equaliser so that’s a big drawback for this headphone.
    But between Bose and Sony yes Bose is more comfortable and they are almost equal in terms of ANC but when it comes to sound Bose tends to emphasis mid ranges more than any other frequencies. So yes may the instruments sound more emphasis, more prominent on bose but overall the balance between mid, high and low are terrific, they are too spread out and just way different than recording one. In the other hand Sony tends to dull sound signature like nothing is exciting not trying to pull out any separate frequencies unlike xm4 and xm3 which are always tends to bring low frequencies out more than other frequencies. So in xm5 yes they still have a little emphasis on lower frequencies but it’s not overwhelming or booming which actually affects on other frequencies before. The bass is deeper on xm5 but still you can get every frequencies and it sounds close to neutral. It’s still not as good as momentum’s sound quality. But still it very close when you use it’s equaliser. And also this year Sony trying to optimise their ANC which not effect on sound quality as before. I think this move is the best move from Sony on its 1000x headset series in terms of sound quality. Yeah Bose is good but the midrange are way to spread out which made the overall sound quality far from neutral. So if anyone has prioritise on sound quality between these two go for Sony and also If anyone use android then definitely go for Sony. Because yes LDAC codec is make a little difference too.

      @@jasonMB999 If you’re looking for bass, the Sony XM4 and XM5 headphones are tough to beat. The sound demo of the QC45 is good, but Bose adjust the music as you change the volume. Bass gets a little lower as you raise the volume. It still sounds really good, but the XM5 and XM4 headphones will bring a ton of bass at louder levels… I think you will be happy with either, but bass is better on the XM4 and the XM5 headphones. Either way, let us know what you get and your thoughts on how they sound!

    I still find it dumb that both these are advertised for people on the go but don't have any kind of water or ingress rating/ protection. I've personally had my xm4's die and refuse to turn on because a slight bead of rain totalled the charging port, and short the internal circuitry. I mean, technically speaking, the Sony's fare better with touch controls (i.e., less means for water to get in versus a button), but it's far from ideal. Also, considering it is 2023 and the cases only serve as a means to contain the headphones is a huge missed opportunity, I'd love to see the case double as a power bank/ charge station for the headphones when not in use, thus giving more battery without being tethered to a wall, or worse, wait till you get home. Not only that, but it might give people more of a reason to carry and use the case.

    • @anger7556
      @anger7556 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A charging case sounds like a very cool idea, but would also increase the costs of the units and they are already pushing the edges of the budget for that price point. Also, with 25-35 hours of play time and 3 hours on a 15 minute quick charge, the need for a case recharger is kind of overkill. AirPods need them because their battery life is much shorter....
      Regarding being weather proof, they are not rated for water and should not be exposed to rain. Hence, the cases lol.

    • @DelonteM
      @DelonteM  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for taking the time to watch! Both the QC45 and the XM5 headphones are really comfortable. The Sony XM5 does not have as much room in the ear cup as the QC45, but the headphones are very light, with almost non existent clamping force. The QC45 takes the win in comfort, but the XM5 are right next to it. Most people I know love the feel of the XM5 headphones. There are some people that do not like the way the ear cups are made, but if you have small to medium sized ears, you should be good to go! Try them out and return them if they don’t work the way you need them to. I hope this helps!

      I appreciate you taking the time to watch! I would look at the QC45 headphones if you need a nice neutral sound and excellent noise cancellation. The Sony XM5/4 headphones are really good at noise cancellation as well, but the QC45 are marginally better. If you are the type to listen to a lot of bass or want a ton of features that will keep the headphones relevant for a long time, the XM5/4 would be the better options. I would use the QC45 headphones for reference headphones over the XM5 and the QC45 is a lot more comfortable. The QC45 does not get hot on the ears easily. I hope this helps a little...

    • @DelonteM
      @DelonteM  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ahmetcankirmizi No problem at all! Bose optimizes the headphones so you get a decent sound at any level. This will reduce the bass at louder levels. The Sony XM5 headphones have an equalizer that can adjust the mids and lows for a more appropriate tune. I placed my settings for the XM5 headphones in the video, if you get the XM5 , try it out and let me know what you think. I’m hoping to see an update to the Bose 700 coming soon… I think they may bring all the modern features to the next generation 700 headphones and better sound since they are supposed to be the flagship. At least I hope so… The noise cancellation is definitely with the Bose QC45 right now. Not by a lot, but it is with the QC45.
