Hey guys, this is Julia from Belarus.
Just watched the video (was crying and laughing all the time!), still cannot believe that this journey was real.
How fascinating life is. You were my inspiration and motivation, I went through some difficult times with you, your videos made me believe that I could do anything in this world. But meeting you on regular rainy day was something I would be thankfull forever (the weather obviously was not giving the vibes that some magic could happen).
There was so much more to this trip: it was right and comfortable (in discomfort), joyful and crazy, real and not real at the same time. Because of the love that you spread I felt so myself during this adventure.
You are real people, the most honest, grateful and kindest humans I've ever met. You really make this world better, you do.
Ohh and Yes family, your comments make my cry, love you all, you're amazing!
    P.S №1:
Still processing that I have now 3 brothers. Crazy, what a life!
    P.S №2:
    Etienne, you are the best!

I'm a Canadian living in Belarus for over 2 years. I've watched a lot of your travels around the globe with great joy. Clicking on this video and seeing you start the journey to Minsk by bus, being anxious and uncertain with the language barrier. Those are all feelings I frequently experience while traveling across the land border.
It's important that people see Belarus for what it is. A beautiful, clean and organized country, with kind and polite citizens.

As someone who has lived in Canada for 20 years, and has followed you since your time in Montreal, while being born and raised in Belarus, this one hit so so close to home. Thank you for doing what you do, uncovering kindness in people even in the harshest (from the outside) places, despite all the circumstances. Thank you for venturing out of the capital to a small village and bringing back memories of my grandparents and my childhood in Belarus. I could smell the train you took, the garden you walked and the house you were in. This was a cathartic watching experience and an incredible full circle. Thank you again. Maybe I would move to another state. Not too cold and not too hot. Where there will also be some kind of work... Well, something like that. Belarus is certainly in my heart. @@oDazzleRazzle I deleted my previous message because I was in a bad mood. I think there is no need for more negativity in this world. There is too much evil in the world already. Let's be friends, all people in the world. If you think about it, Belarusians are not much different from Americans. I am Belarusian and worked with Americans in New York. Perhaps their grandmothers were immigrants from Europe, Italy, the Balkans, etc. But now they consider themselves Americans because they were born here... So I think that we are practically the same. European appearance and culture are practically the same everywhere, be it the USA, Germany, Great Britain, or Belarus, Russia, Ukraine... It's just a formality. Many Belarusians came to the USA and Europe. Europeans and Americans can also come to Belarus and relax, or see, live, study, or work, do business, etc. Just like Belarusians and Russians do in the US and Europe. There is enough evil in the world. We see too much evil in the media. We are literally being set against each other. We must be smart to prevent a new war or a new arms race. We have had enough wars.

This video reminds me of the time my mum, brother, and I were travelling on the trans-siberian railway in 2016, we met a girl staying on the same carriage who had spent the last 10 years learning English, but we were the first English speaking people she had ever met, and she spoke so well!! We knew her for two days on the train, and as we were heading to Novosibirsk, she told us "before you leave from the train, please wait, my brother has gifts for you". Turns out, she is an artist, and her brother is a woodworker, she had sent him drawings of designs she had drawn, and he had wood carved Russia with a bear and a kangaroo on it (we're Australian), with the words "From the Gerasimov family to the Lawson family", and a few other beautiful wood carved pieces. It was the sweetest display of kindness ever!! She was just so thankful to be able to speak English to native speakers for the first time in her life. Russian and Eastern countries' kindness and warmth is one of the best things in the world. My mum still proudly displays the carvings in her house, and we love to tell others the story of how we were given them. Its so important to recognise kindness and love

This is a great reminder that you don't have to go to the other side of the world to give seniors the only thing they crave: someone to talk to and share their life with. There are so many of them that would love for someone to just drop in and talk with them, if they just live down the street or in the middle of Belarus.

Its nice to see a documentary that doesn't demonize the country. I am an American, and I've been to Belarus several times, and I've been at all those locations in Minsk in the video. Its a beautiful country, rich in history and culture. The people as you say don't seem friendly, its because its not in their culture to smile and say hello, as here in America, we sometimes do. But once you talk to people, they are often talkative.
I've never had a negative interaction with people there, nobody beat me down in the streets because I'm American. But often they're just interested in my opinion of the country. And I always say its beautiful, clean, delicious food, and I love the culture and history.
I encourage more people to visit and see for themselves that its a great country to visit!
Fun fact: their KFC tastes better than U.S. KFC 😉

@@kevinsview93 It's not "I don't like living there" level, it's "I'm afraid to live there" level. I was born and lived there for 24 years until I moved to Europe, where I have been living for 8 years now. I can now plan for the future, can you imagine? We can afford a house, a car, food, trips to other countries, save money for the future (and we are simple immigrants, we had nothing with us but a few bags of clothes, a pillow and blanket and a few thousand dollars gifted by relatives). My wife literally saved on food and asked her parents for money when she lived and worked in Minsk (and she worked as an architect, not in a low-level job). A huge number of people are literally on the bottom two levels of Maslow's pyramid of needs.
I'm literally scared to go there because of what I've written in comments under political posts and liked them. I've seen criminal cases and people who have been tortured in prisons just for daring to take to the streets after the 2020 election or write something against it. I see 4 years of terror against those who haven't been caught yet. I don't want to go through this humiliation at the border with checks of your correspondence and interrogations (I am aware of similar humiliation with interrogations at American airports).
If you don't protest, don't write anything about the authorities - you will live in peace and most likely nobody will touch you. No one will ever think of beating you up for being an American or any other foreigner (wtf???), it has never happened and will never happen. People literally grow up on American culture and enjoy the benefits of the western world. They are interested in socialising with people from a different culture. Many of them have never left the country their whole lives, like Julia (I hope she does go to Italy).
All in all - Belarus is a great country, it's very cool that foreigners are coming there and discovering it for themselves. __EVERYTHING__ in that video is an absolute crystal truth. The only problem is those who control the country. And we should remember that only for this single reason Belarus is hell for many Belarusians.

I’ve lived many years abroad and a lot of my foreign especially western friends wished to visit my country, for many of my friends I am their first friend from Belarus and I’m always honored to be one. To show the world we are actually really cool kind and friendly people and the country is not as scary and weird as it may looks like on the west media.
Yulia is my twin ,like - minded , I’m glad you’ve met her , this was a destiny and your present for her really touched me , and I am glad she was so healthy patriotic and not ashamed of our country and said all the good things about it and communicated in her best way! You definitely couldn’t meet a better guide than her in Minsk 🙏🏼
Anyways guys, you’re always welcome back to dive in deeper. And to see with your own eyes that it’s not as scary as it is portrayed in the “free democratic country” . For sure people are just people! And everyone has an open heart and soul if you are also with your open heart and soul! All Russians and Ukrainians and Belorussians used to be one , and the people are still ONE but politics are politics. Wars will always exist… there is much more going on , but our countries are just on the spotlight now.. but it’s not the choice of the people or decisions that people can simply impact on. We are living not In the world of unicorns and pink ponies. It’s so immature to judge the country’s people just by the political situation in the world…
I hope that the viewers of this channel can understand this.
Also the name of the video is so controversial as if it’s the only thing my country is famous for. Quite sad and I don’t like this tacky name but sure if that what attracts the viewers let it be… I’m glad you were able to show our kind and simple grannies and simple typical country side life and bother-less life that ordinary people have and some bubbly and awesome girls like Yulia who even has a great English and smiles all the time! People are people, if we focus on bad - we will find bad. If we seek for something good - it will find us :) ☀️

Thank you for this. I am a 52 year old man who has been out of work for 2 years due to anxiety caused by working as a inner-city teacher and my last parent passing in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Since then, I feel I have seen more heinous and ugly people than ever. The negativity seen from our government and growing up thinking all communist people are bad.
I came to tears watching how the people of Belarus opened their homes to complete strangers and offered their hospitality and more. In my neighborhood, in the city of Indianapolis, I feel very unsafe to do such things. Just this week, we had a salesperson punch a guy in his home because he did not want the salesperson on his property. There are other instances, too! It sounds to me like we have a lot more to learn from the rest of the world.
Thank you for spreading kindness. It is appreciated more than you may realize.

I travelled to the Soviet Union in 1985. It was an incredible place. I applied for a permit to travel around the country and drove from Moscow down to Kiev, and up through Belarus, to St Petersburg (then called Leningrad). It was incredibly different to see, and I learnt Russian for the trip so I could converse. Everyone was so friendly (unlike stereotypes of the Soviet Union). It was so foreign to me. Beautiful place. Watching your mouth was the only part that was hard. I went on a month long trip including ‘victory day’. I saw the most incredible display of weaponry I’ve ever seen. (I was in Moscow for the parade). It was certainly a good time to be alive. The soviets were friendly with the west (to some extent), and it was still completely safe to travel around Eastern Europe without wars everywhere.
