    Very nice and detailed review! I picked these up this week, since the prices are dropping now here in Germany. I payed €250 for them. I also own the QC25 and my girlfriend has 35's, which I was also able to test a lot. I bought them purely for comfort. I'm travelling by plane twice a week, so it's very nice to have ANC headphones for that. I consider myself an audiophile and I have to agree with you about the sound quality, although I think it's more than acceptable. It delivers a nice soundstage and some nice detail, although it depends a lot on the recording (I'm listening a lot to lighter, acoustic music). I'm getting some very satisfying results with some very high quality recordings. It's also a matter of taste (I like a neutral, well balanced sound). Of course it can not compete to my cabled Beyer Dynamic headphones I have here at home, but those don't have ANC and are absolutely not suitable for travelling. So, the ANC, foldability and comfort (they are light) of the QC 45's make them the perfect travelling partner for me, which cannot be matched by any other headphones from any other brand. I don't use the phone/call functions, so I can't comment on that.

      Thanks a lot for your comment!
      250 is still a decent price. It's a huge UPGRADE from QC 25 so I see you are enjoying it. It's not as good as wired headphones but makes very clear, bright, and well balanced sound. I also fly or travel frequently and it's really really comfortable although I wear glasses. It seems like you chose the right one for you and I'm glad that you like it. Thanks for watching my video and enjoy!

    Had the qc45s for a month. Exchanged them once and had return them because the quality of bose became apparent after that month. Both had battery charging issues, a lot of Bluetooth dropping and overall less than decent sound quality. The noise canceling is amazing, and so is the comfort. But overall i was convinced that the xm4s were best for me. Im not a big fan of the touch sensors as opposed to normal buttons, but they are much better in overall quality.

    I‘ve had the QC35 ii for a few years and loved it. Updated to QC45 only because of USB-C.
    Now I‘m getting back a QC35 ii, because of call quality! I work in industrial environment with lots of noises and talking to people on phone or in Teams conferences haven’t been any problem. With the new QC45 this is not possible anymore, because everyone is complaining about mic sound quality.
    Also not having the opportunity to turn off ANC is just ridiculous

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry to hear that. It would've been better with ANC off feature.
      USB-C port adoption is nice and I personally don't use wireless earphones or headphones for a call so I didn't know it sucks for a phone call.

    I really enjoyed this video! I especially loved the intro, "this video is sponsored by my commitment" - this made me keep watching. excellent review thank you!
    I have a question, I'm thinking of buying this QC45 because honestly I can't afford the XM5's. I have beats pro studios right now but they are dying. Bass is important to me but i also will listen to a bunch of different medias like youtube videos, podcasts and of course music. I'm afraid the bass is going to be pretty flat even with the EQ adjusted. but honestly I don't think i could splurge extra money on the Sony XM5's. Do you have any advice? Does the EQ really not help the bass much in the QC45s?

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching my review and thanks a lot for your kind comment 🙏
      QC 45 is great headphones for podcast and its comfortableness but the bass is pretty weak and flat. I couldn't be satisfied even when I max out the bass in EQ settings. Besides, maxing out one specific range (bass, in this case) damages balance so I don't think that is the right way.
      I think XM4 could be a great alternative. The bass is way more powerful and it is more affordable than XM5 while not missing useful features and quality. Holiday sales season is just around the corner so there could be a nice deal soon.

    I must have the newer version because I use the Aware/Quiet button on the left speaker quite a bit. I read that it takes less battery in Aware Mode, so I use that unless there's a reason to switch to Quiet. Almost all sound is eliminated in Quiet Mode. I definitely agree with you, the sound is not great. The lows are nonexistent. Sure, I can adjust the bass with the app, but it just basically makes it sound muffled. I actually love the sound on my OLD Bose OE Soundlink headphones. The QC-45 seem to have sharp, startling sounds throughout a movie. I was always a Bose fan. But now, I'd prefer a brand that delivered better sound and gladly accept a little more inferior noice cancelling.

    I’ve had the xm4 for a year now and they have been great! I compared them with the qc35ii and went with the xm4 because I like more bass. I sometimes regret it because I compromised on the comfort. The xm4 get kinda hot and the inner pad slight touch’s my ears. I’m thinking about trying these out since they now have an EQ.

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      XM4 is a nice pair of headphones too but, as you mentioned, QC 45 is more comfortable.
      Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @BadmashKing8
      @BadmashKing8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So, I pulled the trigger and got the QC45 and overall, they did not impress me much just like it’s predecessors. They sound pretty much the same as far as I remember and the eq does not help much. The bass is there but not to my liking even if I crank it up to 10. I do however really like the comfort and the more user friendly tactile buttons. I feel like these sell mainly because of their comfort and anc but not so much on the sound unless you like flat neutral sound. I think the xm4 blow these out the water in terms of sound! You can physically feel the bass on the xm4 and they sound fantastic overall with a proper eq setting. Even if you are not a bass lover, the xm4 still outshine the qc! Since I am use to the fit and sound of my xm4, I will stick with them for now and wait to see the next iteration from Bose and Sony. It really comes down to personal preference. If you are someone who likes a more flat sound with bare minimum features and amazing comfort, go with Bose. Also, I’m not sure if it’s my headset but I’ve noticed sometimes a cracking noise which usually happens when the sound is harsh. I had this same problem with the qc35ii and I though they were defective but even after a replacement it did the same thing. It could be the mics canceling the noise or poor drivers. I am glad I stuck with my xm4 a year ago!

    I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to : is the sound quality of the QC45 the same on both quiet and aware modes ? Compared to the mediocre sound on passive mode ? I mainly use it in an already silent closed room and don't need that much of an airplane pressure on the ears, it would be great that the aware mode was the same sound quality without the extreme noise cancelling which seems useless in that case. Thank you in advance for your answers !

    Just subscribed, this was very helpful. Do you know if the Bose NC700s have the ability to turn off noise cancelling and have you done a review on that? I am torn in between Sony XM4s and Bose QC45s but now I'm wondering if those are even the options I want to choose.
    I like the fact that the bose are so wonderfully comfortable, but the deal breaker is that you can't turn off NC and that I've heard about sound leakage. What I love about Sony is that the NC is superior but it can make me a feel a bit weird at times and that the clamping force can get uncomfortable.
    I really don't know. Perhaps the XM5s and Bose 700s are better options to choose between?

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can turn off noise canceling on Bose NC700 on its app. There is an option in settings.
      I didn't experience any sound leakage with QC 45. I have used it in a library and nobody complained about it. I think you don't have to worry about it.
      It's true that XM4 has a little bit more clamping force and feels less comfortable than QC 45. But both headphones are comfortable enough to wear for a long time and it could depend on personal preference. Personally, I wish Bose did QC 45 with Sony's sound.
      I'm gonna do a review on Bose NC700 probably next week.
      I haven't had my hands on XM5 so I cannot compare these two headphones but I prefer Bose NC700 over QC 45 because I can turn off the noise canceling.
      Thanks for joining my channel and stay tuned for NC700 review!

    2:48 There's a neat trick I discovered on my QC 35 ii to make the earpads facing downward.
    Grab them and do the "Wakanda forever" arm crossing without letting go. Then place them on your shoulders with your arms still crossed.
    Now they're magically facing downward.
    It's a bit more time cosuming to get them on your head the right way again than if you had them on your shoulders the other way around, but it still takes less time than for the headphones to turn on and reconnect, so it doesn't matter.

    @technoliath Thinking about getting these, but I'm like you where I want dynamics and to really enjoy my music. Were they still flat and boring sounding even after adjusting the EQ? I'm between these and the Sony XM5's. Thanks in advance!

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bass won’t be as good as or as abundant as Sony XM5 no matter what you do with EQ. It makes some difference when you adjust EQ and it’s subjective how we feel about it, you know. You can make a noticeable difference but still maxed out bass on QC45 is nowhere near XM5’s. If you listen to music with a lot of bass in it then I would say you will be much more satisfied with XM5. HOWEVER, I found, over time, the bass from XM4 or XM5 feels kinda too exaggerated. I have XM4, XM5, QC45, and QC (recent version of QC45) and I daily drive QC these days since I feel like my ears get tired easily with XM5 or XM4. There’s something to the XM4 or XM5 that makes any music somewhat bass rich. I feel like I can’t enjoy music as the performer intended with XM4 or XM5.
      In a nutshell, if you like bass and want to have as much bass as possible -> go for XM5
      If you like flat and neutral sound with maximum comfort -> go for QC45 (the later version, QC, is basically almost identical in terms of sound. Buy whichever cheaper.)

    3:10 you said that theres a button to click between NC and aware mode.
    9:02 you said that noise cancelling is always on...
    I'm confused

    • @Technoliath
      @Technoliath  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's either 100% level of Noise Cancelling or Aware mode. We can't use this headphones without activating one of these two modes. To deactivate NC, we need to switch to aware mode but that means the other mode (aware mode) turned on, not NC turned off.
      Aware mode doesn't cancel the ambient noise but it helps you hear ambient noise easily with the help of mic on the headphones. Thus, it consumes battery. Since the headphones are closed-back headphones, it passively blocks noise to some extent and some people might be okay with this when the battery is running low. Or some people might not want to stay on NC mode all the time but don't want to switch to aware mode. I thought it was weird that Bose didn't let us turn the NC off without having to switch to aware mode. It's all about whether we have choice or not.
      I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

    These headphones definitely have an aware mode, and that is fine for my purposes. I'm a Bose fan and have no issues with the electronics of their headphones. But I don't care for the build. Those cushy ear pads will be a peeling mess after a year, even if you use protectors. And the on-off toggle switch is infamous for breaking. My QC 35 set is now an expensive paperweight because I can't turn the headphones on anymore! There is an option to buy a new toggle switch and replace it with some fancy disassembling but I'm bored by that idea! I've found no fault at all with their noise-cancelling ear buds, however. They are magic.

There is more bass on Sony xm4, but I don’t want too much to the point where it hurts my ears.. *but* I want to head bop to the music. I’ve tried my friend’s Sony’s and I don’t have any problems with comfort (i have small ears) so this isn’t something i’ll judge the pairs on. What should I get?

      In my opinion, based on your preference, XM4 is a better choice than QC45.
      XM4 is more bassy than QC45 but it's not just in bass range but in every range and this makes XM4 more enjoyable. QC45 is too flat and boring. For podcasts, QC45 could be a better choice but I don't find myself head bopping with QC45 on. I have been using QC45 and XM4 back and forth for about a month now and when I change from XM4, QC45 is like 'meh' for music. This cannot be fixed with EQ so boosting bass won't get you what you want.

      I published a comparison video just a moment ago. I have been under the weather recently so it couldn't be done earlier. I hope you like it.

      Sure! Actually, I have XM5 waiting for me at my home in Korea. I'm going back to Korea in February so my review will be out in late February.

    Teknoliath and Bose user manual: Use the action button to switch between silent and aware mode. Aware mode switches off the ANC to let you fully hear all sounds from your surroundings.
    Also Teknoliath: You cannot turn off ANC to save battery.
    Me: Utterly confused.

      Ahahah your comment is hilarious.
      I got this kind of comment earlier than I thought and I totally understand why you are confused.
      To get to the point straight, QC 45 doesn't have any option to turn ANC off.
      You can turn it off only by turning aware mode on. No matter what you do, you will always have something turned on with this headphones. So you won't be able to use this with passive NC only and that will save less battery or consume more battery. It's either ANC or aware mode on. The headphones doesn't do ANC and aware mode off at the same time.

      Ok, thank you for clarifying. In simple words, battery life is what it is. I dont really see a problem with it tho. It takes your worries away.

    I have had the QC35 II for a few years and I decided to upgrade to the QC45. Bad choice. The QC35 II are better than the 45 in every aspect and after a few days I returned it.

      Sometimes old tech serves better than a new one. Sorry to hear that you had to return it.

    I didn’t pay full price for them but I’ve used them on two 11.5hr round trip flights and they are extremely comfortable with no ear or head fatigue. Not a big fan of how they sound, but I didn’t buy them for that.

      Right! I have no doubt that this is the most comfortable headphones. Thanks for sharing your experience!

      Yeah, paying more than 200 bucks after discount is still kinda expensive. But I think it’s worth paying when you want to have the best music experience.
