    *CORRECTIONS:
    There is an electronic level called "Horizon" in the framing guide
    The max framerate captions for 48 and 60fps are reveresed. 60fps is 2.4:1 max and 48fps is 6k DCI max
    Dear Ghosts,
    Music is a bit experimental, let me know if you love it or hate it, they will be available for download on Discord / discord . Also, I regraded the entire project 3 times because when i updated to 18.6 something changed about my Davinci Resolve presets, which affected how i saw my footage, which rendered completely different exposure from what I graded. But I'm kinda tired so this is what I will present, some parts will have unbalanced/strong contrast.
    Blackmagic need to change their model naming! Some other notes: in the camera comparison the fujifilm used F2.8 on apsc despite using a speedbooster, which is more like f4 on full frame, but i changed it for the second comparison f2.0, the depth of field still didnt feel quite the same. I don't find a speedbooster can recreate the same spatial depth of full frame anyway. Be aware that noise will seem better (or worse) on youtube because of YT compression. Battery is acceptable for non professional work. You can get away with 2 batteries a day or 1 for the afternoon if you shoot sparingly. File is 129GB. I will probably upload some other comparisons or tests, let me know what you want to see. Time to rest, until next time...
    Spend wisely.
    Love,
    CleverG

      @@mabitzz9484naah the cdng is what makes it a real raw camera. RAW data file that is undebayered and unprocessed just like the old BM cameras. Blackmagic "RAW" is just a Prores codec slapped with some metadata. I've noticed that it doesn't actually have true wb adjustment in post. It's just shifting RGB values.
      So yeah blackmagic raw is not touching sigma in this department

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sigma FP performs better overall, the noise and lowlight performance is one of the best, however if you have controlled abundant light then the blackmagic has a lighter look that could better resemble Arri footage if you desire. If you want more oomph in your visuals go for sigma, if you want a gentler look go for blackmagic. Oh and the files in the sigma are huge about 2TB for 2 hours so that is a con

    I wonder if Sigma intends on making a new FP. As quirky as it is, the main issue on the FP I think was dynamic range, so If they fixed that (& maybe added 10 bit prores recording options with maybe their own log profile?) it would become an instant classic. I've always loved the form factor of that camera. I do agree with you that BM will probably revise the Pocket line soon enough. This FF 6k is well priced IMO, I don't think there's better image quality for that price. People are not super excited about it but OLPF makes a big difference to my eyes in an era of over sharpened mirrorless cameras with potential moiré issues.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sigma has been trying to make a new FP with their own foveon sensor for a while, but it has been delayed for several years due to critical faults. If it ever does reach the market, it could be market changing, however i really doubt it will have as good lowlight performance as their previous foveon cameras didn't have as incredible low light. If they release a new camera i will definitely be in line, though i think the FP is honestly already lightning in the bottle

    • @UriRa
      @UriRa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah things will change depending mac or pc. I have a few videos planned and there are other videos out there that do the same. The resolution of this vid is ProRes 422 HQ 6048x2520 6k but your Sony will export 4k. ProRes will be higher quality than h265 but for TH-cam it should be insignificant. Audio render 24bit -14LUF. However, these are MEANINGLESS if you dont have the correct colorspace management. Especially if you are on Mac you will need to go into preferences and tick some check boxes. Then select the proper color management so that your render is the same as what you see on TH-cam (1,1,1). th-cam.com/video/HEL8_kdbMBE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gwiZ7INBVZsnFykO

      @gymchad_ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cleverghostchili Thank a lot for the link! So… it doesn’t matter if the file is standard 4k 100mb/s? The difference in visual quality is all about the export? I’ve always asked myself if i can get really good quality video on 8bit and i was actually thinking about selling that cam and get an fx30. I edit on a standard laptop so i’ll go with the mac instead. Does the pc make the difference quality wise? O it’ll just be slower exporting?

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So 8 bit vs 10bit you will notice more color gradations. What this means is a shadow will look like one shade in 8 bit but may look more like a realistic gradient in 12bit. I think it makes a big difference but 8bit is acceptable for youtube, though 10bit is definitely better, but can still get ruined by YT compression. Everyone has trouble with YT compression. 4K Higher resolution is better on YT which will have better processing than 1080, 100mb/s is more than enough. The computer brand shouldn't matter too much, its about your computer specs, which should only affect render speeds as long as your color management is correct, though the M1 macbooks are very capable. I took a look at one of your videos, if you upload in 4K youtube will give you better results, just make sure your color management is correct

    Great review and footage. I noticed that 6k FF looks more sharper than the bmpcc 6k which is why might apear not that cinematic. To me it handle roll off far better than sigma fp, and with your zeiss lens it pops even more. As a 6k pro owner i aware of the 6k image been to sharp compared to bmpcc4k/arri/sigma fp, that's why I switched to Leica R to take off the overly sharpness from the objects in focus, those older zeiss will do the job too, but I prefer the roll off of leica. Even though the 6k FF is great for anamorphic shooting, I'd still wait for better form factor, and I already made a custom build with focus handle+ battery. For your case I'd shoot at day time with BM, and at night with FP. Your footage from 福建 got me pretty exited since I will heading back to my home town in 山东 next month.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome! The thing about zeiss is though they are very sharp they have dramatic focus fall off (which can lead to out of focus shots) but creates the illusion of a softer image. I think the olpf is actually quite soft, but I’ve only used the bmpcc4k. Leica R also nice lenses I like them for photography. Daytime shooting is exactly what I had in mind with this camera. Until the full frame 6k, I read a comment somewhere that Canon colour looks 'real' but thin and BlackMagic looks thick but not real... which sums up how I felt. I was veering towards the FP or FP-L (I think the crop function would work well with my APS-C Sigma Art lenses alongside full frame glass, and the rolling shutter is tunable with the crop - just as it is with the 6K FF) but the more I see of BM 6K full frame images the more I think this camera is a fantastic in-between option. It has that 3 dimensional look with thick colour and the BM Raw workflow and colour science... for me the workflow and decent pre-amps and 5 inch screen all add up to a camera that frees you to focus on your project not the camera.
    Look forward to watching more of your work and being inspired...

      The blackmagic is so fun to use, this is of course preference but I think it is optimized for less contrasty grades and more softer filmic looks, Sigma FP is a of course very special to me and has a 1:1 pixel read out in apsc mode making it sharper than the full frame mode, more difficult to grade, though both can use blackmagic colorspace. Also please bear in mind I use a very contrasty lens with 3d pop so results may vary! Let me know which you end up choosing! Always very interested in these things

      @@cleverghostchili Happy to keep you posted... thanks for these comments, it's very helpful to get first-hand insight into some of these finer differences between the two cameras, which as you point out are influenced by so many variables like lens choice and performance, shooting conditions, grade etc. That's why I really liked your video actually, as it helps unpack these things - most reviewers are just doing the same old technical specs-based videos, and showing off some nice looking footage. That doesn't help anyone create from their mind's eye vision... you clearly have that rare mix of artistic and technical insights!
      The BM seems to have a really good APS-C mode from footage I've seen, and that's a strong pro in its favour. The image quality cropped in looks stunning, and I like the detailed by softer look of the camera. Those larger photocells have their advantages. If I went with the FP, I'd probably want to use the minimum crop factor possible to maximise the pixel count: from what I understand, the whole philosophy of the FP-L is that higher pixel count creates that depth-look, so I'd be better off with the FP-L rather than FP. I don't need crazy low light performance, so both 6KFF and FP-L should be good enough. FP-L crop factor, by my rough calculations, would still allow 40MP-ish levels of detail cropped in. The Sigma art zooms I have can cover a full frame sensor in the higher half of their zoom ranges, so do you know if you can use the FP sensor area flexibly with APS-C zooms attached? Or will the camera limit crop choices when an apsc lens is attached? I might ask Sigma...
      Now you mention it, I can 'see' in the blackmagic website gallery examples what you mean about the 6k's tendency to create softer, filmic looks. You can push it a bit towards more contrasty and punchy styles, but only so far. I like the BM look that is not too clinically sharp, but that FP look is really intriguing: sharp, and yet organic... it feels to me like the image immerses you in an experience, whereas the BM keeps you at a filmic distance from it... I really am torn still! In truth, I want both cameras! But I'll have to choose one first.
      FYI, I have two Sigma Art APS-C zooms, the usual 18-35 f1.8 and 50-100 f1.8, plus I have a Nikon AIS 85mm f1.4 and a Laowa 12mm Zero D f2.8. I've sold everything else in prep to change the camera. I'm thinking of getting a Micro Nikkor 55mm f2, as I like getting close ups for the of stories I want to tell. I'm thinking I'll probably get some full frame Sigma L-mount primes over time, starting with a 35mm I think. Or maybe SLR magic, not yet decided. I'm a solo shooter, so I don't need Cine glass really, and I'm not currently thinking of anamorphics, but I do fancy those new Nisi cine primes as well.
      So, I have some sharp glass but the contrast on the Sigmas is subject to the lighting conditions. You have to be very careful shooting into light, and use flags etc to protect contrast (ie use matte box or hood). I have the usual filters to play with, NDs, BPMs etc. At the moment, the choice between FP and 6KFF is really difficult and just boils down to the look.
      My final decision is going to be based on the projects I have in mind, and which look best suits the stories I want to tell. That's a hard choice to make in advance, without lots of testing in advance... but it boils down to choosing between realistic immersive experiences (FP) vs more filmic dreamy ones (BM)... so I'm working first on figuring out the project needs. Of course, storytelling is ultimately more important than camera choice, but the image is something really important to the sorts of stories I'm working on, and I want to be inspired by the images coming out of the camera... Thanks for chiming in!

      Loved reading this. The sigma FP has 3 modes, apsc, auto (which will determine for you if the lens does not cover) and full frame sensor. As the sensor is likely a 6k sensor downsampled to 4k full frame, it actually does appear soft in a filmic way so the bmcc6k is definitely sharper, which could pair better with softer glass actually. You can still use blackmagic color space on the sigma if you desire less of that high contrast dimensional look. Sigma is a great under expose camera and blackmagic better at over exposing. Color is arguably better on the sigma as well, but the workflow and ergonomics are not nearly as good as blackmagic. The sigma is not fun to shoot without a ssd holder, monitor or evf, but you get great photos. The blackmagic is the most fun you can get filming. Ultimately it should come down to this, if you want the best image quality it’s the sigma, if you want the best experience it is blackmagic. Both great cameras in different situations

      @@cleverghostchili Thanks again, good to know the 3 shooting modes allow manual selection of sensor image area. That confirms the FP/FP-L would work for me.
      Agree with what you say, and interesting to note the distinctions in sharpness and colour of the images from these cameras - these things are hard to judge without actually using the cameras. In honesty, I'm really attracted to that seemless BM workflow from capture to grade, it's hard to overlook! And the BM even creates proxies for you... I have a Ninja V and some SSD media, so that could pair initially with the FP-L as monitor (with its PQ mode for monitoring raw if I record in ProRes, though I'd prefer to work with dng capture direct to SSD. If I get the FP-L I'd work with a dng workflow for raw files, despite the inconvenience.
      Thanks for helping my research and decision-making. Just down to making a final choice now. Gut feel is currently the 6KFF mainly for the workflow and that fun factor you mention, which I think will really help unlock the energy and enjoyment of the process. But I can't quite let go of that lovely image in the FP-L... will let you know which way I go!

      if you ask 10 people what organic means you'll probably get 10 different answers. It's become quite an ambiguous term, what I can say is that the xh2s and bmcc6k are easier to match than the FP if you add slight blur. In Davinci Resolve I'd suggest changing mid detail (MD) to about -20 on the xh2s and you can also add a slight .51 radius blur if you want. • @cleverghostchili

      I believe the Eva1 has more mic inputs and maybe sdi making it the most convenient and practical but if you are just one guy or a few people willing to compromise jank audio, power or monitor setups you can consider the blackmagic or sigma fp. Because I'm an image quality snob and i understand these cameras more intimately I'd opt for one of these two, the sigma has very good texture and immersiveness but massive data requirement for a feature (2TB for 2 hours for 4k 12bit), the blackmagic can look like arri especially indoors, but it has pretty poor lowlight. It would depend a lot on what i was shooting and if i wanted heavier or lighter visuals. The xh2s and s1h are also great if the story is compelling enough and you can ignore the weaker texture with lighting and colorgrading. I would say eva1 is a smart choice, also great visuals, a bit softer more nostalgic but perfect for an organic indie drama.

    Full frame **open gate** means having a 4k vertical crop available, every time you film a 6k 16:9. Plus there’s a massive 4k x 4k square crop available in the same frame as well. I must concede that a lot of social media content won’t benefit from the extra resolution. Except, if you’re needing to create branded content which stands out because of its better down sampling and color grade. Nevertheless, the camera retails for about the same money as renting an Alexa Mini LF for a week-while giving you 75% more pixels to use in post. Let’s repeat that. The BMCC open gate format provides 75% more pixels than an Alexa Mini LF, with internal RAW and comparable color science. There’s less dynamic range. So you have to light more carefully, and the BM camera is a lot less robust. But you would have to destroy at least 25 fully rigged BMCCs before you caught up to the cost of one new Mini LF. Blackmagic have given us an enormous bargain, but most reviewers don’t see the gold nugget because of the wrapper.

      Some of the complaints with this camera are quite unreasonable. It's to be expected with a larger sensor. It would be like if blackmagic made a small box pocket camera everyone wants, but people complain about a smaller screen.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Skin tones are very subjective. In Asia a magenta shift will be more attractive for yellower skin tones whereas caucasions may prefer a greener tint. I like fuji greens and skintones especially for film emulation, however i think Sigma FP is better. In these indecisive situations you likely already know the answer of what you want, but you just want to hear someone confirm it. Go with your instinct and you won't have regrets @@fridadeivizsla2729

    I disagree with most of the analysis from this video. Personally, and most of the filmmakers I work with, love the image quality from the Pocket 6k Pro and FF for narrative work

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is good for narrative work, the question is compared to what? It's better than mirrorless cameras and the pocket6k. The analysis comes mostly from these aspects - lower base contrast, lowlight rolloff and image texture. But it's very affordable and i think it can still complement Arri cameras. I like Arri colorspace on this camera. The commercial looks i argue comes mostly from the brighter visuals and strong highlights, I find lights to feel more sourcey and skin reflects light too much

      @leebrandt8597 I hear you, but with that logic any camera can produce the same result (which is arguably mostly true) but from a review perspective that doesn’t help differentiate a camera. With attention to small detail, those vibes are still what I believe the blackmagic excels with and leans toward. I found it very difficult in post to produce my usual moodier visuals as everything ended up feeling a bit bright. But Id love to be proven wrong
