Fujifilm XH2S - A Filmmaker’s Review - Should you Upgrade?
Any specific reason why you didn't use your Zeiss Lens instead?
@@GamouPlays for this short film I specifically needed something wider than a 28mm to get these shots while also being fast enough to be used lowlight. This way I had a lot of negative space to work with and the DZO Arles satisfied all these conditions. I talk more about it in this review th-cam.com/video/1abF4Cj6478/w-d-xo.html
Ahh yes, this apartment must have many leather bound books and is rich in the smell of mahogany.
Bro, this is why you're the GOAT and on your way 10K SUBS. You deserve every sub you have.
that'd be a shock! to this day I still don't know what people want, the algorithm eludes me
This is amazing as someone now looking for lenses to grow with. I love the look of the sigma Art series which I think we all agree they are good for what they are and for what they cost. Curious though I know you are a big fan of the Otus line but if you had to pick 2 lenses in similar focal length from the milvus line what would they be. I shoot weddings but I love the width of 28 for environment and scene setting which when I’m using my sigma 18-35 it sits on 28 lol but just curious if I wanted to add from the milvus line what 2 lenses would you pick?
@@itsjoetorres930 I have some videos on some of the milvus lenses. But be aware lens choice is personal, the singer that works best for my band might not be the best choice for your band. I would choose Milvus 35 because it’s perfect for nearly any situation. For weddings you’ll probably want a 28 or 21mm for those group scenes and getting that context. You may also consider a 50mm or 75mm when you want portraits with the bride and groom
@@cleverghostchili This is exactly the answer I was looking for. I just wasnt sure if to go 25 or 21 for the wide side. I think one thing that isn't talked about enough is how lens choice not just focal length can align with creative vision. 35 and 50 are def on my radar. Just need something for that wide side of things like groups or environment / gimbal for high end venue designs .
tomvadnais.com/?p=1827 I think the 21 is only f2.8, but still more interesting than a 25mm full frame in my opinion even if it’s using an old optical formula. Here’s a link for you to take a look. 25 is faster and sharper
dude you are awesome for this thank you!
Beautiful mirrors 🧡
ur buggin dude ur way off
This camera is much better now compared to its retail $2500 with no flog2 and video support. However I still recommend the xs20 at half the retail price
Awesome video. I would like to hear your thoughts on the Tokina Vistas, and even your thoughts compared to the Otus series.
Wide open the tokina vistas are adjacent to Zeiss Otus. Where they differ is the Otus is sharper, more contrast with dramatic blur. This makes Otus images pop more screaming that it’s a premium lens with a strong modern look. The Tokinas are much more subtle with a more gradual out of focus transition, which ultimately draw less attention to itself while also being clean. The tokina vista have a more neutral presentation because of less defined edges, which is probably why they’re used for so many docudrama TV series. The Otus could be better for sci-fi where the tokina vista could be better for a documentary maybe period piece. One word to describe each. Tokina - buttery. Otus - crisp.
Did you use a kaleidoscope filter for the title screens?
i use a range of techniques not limited to kaleidoscope, mirror and rosette for each title screen
@ ah nice, so it’s all done in post?
Young kid discovers Zeiss lenses. Doesn't really warrant a video.
@@DeadGlassEyes sorry you had to discover this video during your mid life crisis
@ lol okay kid. Enjoy the lenses. What you’re saying is just common knowledge.
New subscriber here today, amazing content. How would you compare the Otus with Tokina Vista Primes? I have an 85 Otus Zf2 and deciding if I should go with finishing the Otus line up or invest in the Tokinas thanks! Edit: I am looking for a more filmic look. Not necessarily sharper or clinical but more so with character excluding all the caveats
@@lizlana4200 Zeiss Otus is very sharp, it doesn’t have character but it has personality in the sense that it’s not clinical but looks super modern. I would say if you want more aberrations and optical imperfections you can look at the DZO Arles, I made a video recently about that one, which will be similar and softer like the tokina vista primes which could balance with digital sensors to get a more filmic look. Character preference is subjective, i personally don’t think tokina vistas have a ton of character compared to some other lenses. I think Cooke would be more interesting alternative to the lenses you mentioned
@ Thank you 😊🙏

Hey! Awesome job! Great lighting! Just to confirm, this was filmed with the Sigma fp? Thanks!
@@NealJett yes Sigma FP
Thinking about selling my xh2s for the sigma fp as i recently got the xm5 which satisfies my fuji look need for pictures. I long for better low light and cinematic video, do you still use your xh2s? Do you have a video comparing them by any chance?
@@lecanius I have a very short comparison at the toward the end of this video. If you better lowlight and things to look like a modern cinema camera FP will be one of the best considerations for value th-cam.com/video/0r6ViM7kwiQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tlhnZ0B5H3ZvlClM
In my kit are laowa 10mm 2.8, 20mm Sony and 24-70 sigma II The laowa 10mm has blown me away as it is rectilinear with amazing image quality and macro capabilities. As i mostly shoot anamorphic, I really enjoy using a 40mm anamorphic on a full frame combined with the 10mm Laowa. It is the most wow factor combination
@@nickkyriakidis can definitely vouch for Laowa, it all depends if you need something a bit faster. Great choice on focal lengths!
I've used Index dividers you'd use to keep paperwork organized, eight different colors in a pack, $1.25 at Dollar Tree. Obviously for LEDs that stay cool enough only.
I am a little confused as to how to acquire the coloured films. Is it something you can find in a shop or online? They seem ideal!
They are called colored gel light filters, you can buy them at any arts and crafts store or online like this one amzn.to/49PHzqr just be aware these are meant for small practicals that don't get too hot.
@cleverghostchili Thank you so much!

Doohu gud
What is this call? Where can I buy it?
I'm not using any particularly brand and you can get these from any arts and crafts store. However you if want a CTO colored gel filter recommendation I can recommend these: amzn.to/49PHzqr just be aware these are meant for small practicals that don't get too hot.
great video. I agree with your philosophy on lighting.
Definitely going to start using gels on practicals. Thanks
film safely
Great video and tbh -> really creative!!
sometimes budget forces you to go outside the box
@ you did an amazing job🔥
*CAUTION* - These thinner films are definitely prone to melting and can be a fire hazard especially when placed in front of point source lighting or hotter/larger practical lights. I can only recommend these for use as shown in the video - for smaller lamps and household fixtures. Film safely, Ghost
Should be obvious but please don't do this on lights that run hot, you will melt your gels, and it's a fire hazard. Ceiling lights with glass fronts can be extremely hot.
Yes, it was an oversight to not mention melting issues and why I mainly used the thicker plastic sheets, good comment
Wait. Are the lights you're putting these gels over LED? Like, you're not going to burn down your house while filming, right?
Yes, these are more for practical lamps, It would have been more responsible to address the melting issue. Thank you.
I think the lighting definitely looks more grounded like this! Really interesting idea with the gels on practicals, I also kinda liked the gel on the lens - something I’d love to experiment with
Gels for the camera definitely work with some colors feeling surreal like orange/red. I’m thinking of Men, Gerald’s Game, Blade runner 2049
Seeing you talking to the camera made me realise i love your voice. I must have known it before without noticing it but now it's clear how powerful and deep and subtle is your voice. Great job on those light and color tips.
What a surprise, thought most people would be turned off by it, must be the experience 😂
2:49 focus rack noise goes crazy! Been seeing this whenever I'm at the local crafts and had ideas of using them as gels. You've inspired me once again to experiment with my setups! Great video, Marko!
yeah I should have just pulled by hand lol, glad you liked it
I love lamp!
stay classy
I've been thinking about this exact same thing lately for the short film and you just managed to clear my doubts. I've got a nanlite fs300 that's literally a barebones Forza 300 so it only has the 5600k mode and a few effects. What do you think is the best place to place these inside a soft box?
Actually 300 is probably enough to melt these if they’re that close. If you want to be super safe then it place them on the outer edge
First

Do you think this matches with Leica Rs?
@@donovanjugarapLeica R are warmer and have a softer rendering than the 1.4 milvus but are sharper than ultrawides like this one
@@cleverghostchili hmm interesting i'm trying to get a wide the other thought was the zero d Laowas have you had any experience with these lenses?
Laowa 12mm is great, rectilinear and wide. Lots of real estate people use it, also surprisingly mini LF users. Can recommend that one or the Zeiss milvus. I also made a video with dzo ultrawide recently you can check that out, would probably be a closer match with Leica too
So glad you mentioned "Photoshop Bokeh." I've felt that so much bokeh used these days is overdone and without context. Beautiful work.
It can work sometimes especially in the cover of darkness, but much trickier in daylight
I’m getting a 21mm next and it’s your fault. 😂 Great work.
It’s an awesome perspective, you can definitely go cheaper than the Arles. Spend wisely

Hello, yes it’s because you have the last version of DaVinci resolve, install the version before
@ Thank you ! I’ll try doing this
I enjoyed a lot of your videos and this too but will the content of it get through the checkpoint we call SCIENCE? trust me it won't. anything You can do with an Alexa 65 sensor, can be done with a s16 sensor. the usual commentary for Large Format even by established DPs and Brands like ARRI is always like this ' it feels immersive, it's magical, it gives me butterflies in my tummy ' but Men lie, Women lie, and Numbers don't and the Numbers win.
@@the180degreerule3 this video was made when I didn’t have my thoughts as well put together. I don’t think your final assessment is wrong, but numbers don’t make a story, it’s often the feel and even technical limitations that guide our creative choices
