    PLEASE like & share this video. It's very important we get traction on this video 🙏🏾
    Sorry for uploading 3 times but I had emails from Blackmagic regarding changes they requested to the video.
    Also, Sorry for audio in certain places during interviews. Locations were not ideal so had to process all the noise out.
    Finally and most important! Any silly comments will NOT be answered and we will just hide the channel from you. We're to busy to argue on the internet. Thanks

I was also positively surprised to see the other TH-camrs help out in a way. It was like the Cine TH-cam Allstars coming together for a collab😁Also, I'm really hyped for the Eve and Aurora. I just hope, that they'll have nice lens mounts that lets you use adapters and Speedboosters😄

    Love what you guys are doing!!!
    One suggestion:
    Keep the bigger screen and put it on a swivel mount that is integrated into the cameras body.
    This way you could flip up the screen, rotate it and so on. Maybe even a way to attach it to the side.
    A fixed screen on top is good for handheld, but not good for any other use case. If the goal is to make the camera need as little rigging as possible, then a fixed monitor on top just doesn't make much sense in my opinion.
    I know this is no easy task and I am very impressed with what you guys have been doing!
    thats just my two cents

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey thanks for the suggestion. It could be possible if we can integrate a metal hinge of some but but we'd have to see what the wiring would look like. A tilt screen is definitely a good idea though.

    I own a number of BM cameras and I have been using them for several years. I am not joking: Blackmagic should hire you and do what you tell them to do.
    I am not a BM micro user and maybe this camera isn't made at 100% as I precisely wish it would be, but it is absolutely remarkable and ergonomically much much MUCH more usable than the pocket line of cameras, for what I do.
    It's absurd to think that BM never delivered a box camera in all these years despite all the users asking for it. It came to all these modding projects for them to realize that maybe it would have been a good idea and it was a matter of time before people would start to go around with their rehoused cameras. Which to me, it sounds really surreal.
    I love BM, it's a company who revolutioned the market in a very positive and fresh way, making possible high end things that weren't possible for a large portion of professional users. But sometimes their way of doing things is hard to understand.

HOWEVER, this is the kind of thing that I absolutely love to see from the community, and I think it really speaks to the continuing legacy of DIY filmmaking, further democratisation of the space, and I am so glad that there are people out there who are willing not just to take a product that exists as it is, but modify it to something that they think will be better for them and for others. The fact that there are options out there for people to create things that don't require tens of thousands of dollars in investment is fantastic. You and the team have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the design and execution of this project! I really like the form factor, and the weight that seems to have been added which will make any handheld footage look better just because of physics. The compatibility and mounting point for the Ursa side-handle is a really cool feature! The following is not hate, just some of my honest thoughts, so take it as you will.
    1. Top connector:
    The pogo-style connector on the top is a really cool idea - but I do have to say I've heard some horror stories from RED users about 3rd party accessories and power management - so I'm curious to see how foolproof the 8-pin pogo-style connector on the top would be. For how I like to shoot, I think it would be another possible point of failure or electrical issues, even when not in use, unless it was insulated/covered by rubber to prevent contact with any conductive metal in a top handle, a NATO rail, etc. I would most likely want to use power from such a port to run an adjustable monitor on the top handle or on a monitor arm, but sadly I don't think the 5v it can supply would be sufficient, and stepping it up to something like 7.2v for a dummy battery into a monitor would make me nervous even if this feature was designed, built, and supported by Blackmagic themselves, let alone a 3rd party. Nothing you guys can really do about that, as I know you have limitations on your time, budget, how far the engineering can go, and the base camera you're starting from.
    2. Power:
    I would want to see a V-mount power option for a camera like this - NPFs are ok, but for someone like me, I've already purchased a handful of V-mounts to run my Pocket cams, some of my lights, my wireless monitor setup, and probably whatever other cameras I purchase in the future. I get that 14.8v battery systems add another point of complication and potential failure compared to running the camera off batteries with the same voltage it started with. And the I/O on the back would either be cramped or have to move with a wider battery mount. But for shooting handheld especially, I like to cradle a camera body against my chest and the wider surface area of V-mounts seems more comfortable than skinnier NPFs. Of course there's always adapters, but since this project is a modification to the Micro, I'd be hesitant to essentially stack adapters on adapters and I'd probably end up with a similar rig to my Pocket cams anyway at that point.
    3. Plastic body, and mounting points:
    It's cool that it's a PLA plastic body with some carbon fiber panels, and I'm glad you did the strength test to show it's quite durable! Looking at the prototype, the "3D-printed" look of the plastic body and the 1/4 20 threads still make me nervous even if demonstrated to be reliable - so I wouldn't want a client, producer, director, or my camera/G&E crew (when I have them lol) looking at my camera and having any doubts just because it looks unstable. I can't exactly show clients and crew the weight test video to convince them on every shoot haha.
    4. Screen:
    Also, this camera body runs into the classic dilemma of "Blackmagic users wanting a box but none of them agreeing where a built-in monitor should go" - a lot of people want a monitor on the top of the body and it's great you've added one at all over the original Micro. But I fly most of my cams with a top handle 90% of the time unless I'm mounting them on a gimbal. On a gimbal, or on my shoulder, the top screen wouldn't really be viewable, nor would it be viewable on a tripod at/above my eye level. And I think a top handle would create awkward viewing angles when looking straight down at the monitor shooting handheld/EasyRig.
    But I know this is partly targeted toward people who don't like the side-monitor of the PYXIS, which is viewable from the operator side on a tripod and seems somewhat workable changing settings on a shoulder rig. Neither placement is great, and we all know a tiny top screen like the Komodo would never take the place of an externally mounted monitor either. So at some point the debate about the placement of a non-articulating screen on a box camera becomes moot anyway!
    So a built in screen vs not having one seems like a better option, but since you guys have taken this concept and execution so far, in an ideal world it would be nice to see the screen able to be removed and mounted in other ways, or even powered through that pogo-style connector. Since it is a large screen, it would be cool to offer at least a clear glass or plastic protector you could bolt on top for added security.
    5. Lens mount:
    Keeping the MFT mount of the original is a good idea in my opinion, but one of the weak points about using lens adapters especially with heavy EF lenses designed to cover full frame, or even PL lenses is introducing play between the native mount and the lenses themselves. In my experience with the Pocket 4K, this play can really mess up a shot whether focusing manually on the lens itself or using a mechanical or wireless follow focus. (This can be a problem with the EF mount generally, without any adapters).
    To mitigate this with the Pocket 4K, I have the speedbooster bolted to the support bracket which in turn is bolted to the cage. If you're going for a cageless design, which you are well on the way toward doing, I would want to see some kind of accessory to support or secure any adapters or speedboosters to the body without having to add 15mm rods and a support foot etc.
    Anyway, I'm curious to see where this goes! We've all seen some great footage come out of the Pocket 4K, the Micro, and I'm sure that will hold true for this rehoused camera as well!

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Appreciate all that and there's a lot to go through.
      The body is designed for run gun but that won't stop you using a monitor on the side, top handle etc.
      Although a lot of people use vmount, I do too...I don't always want to use one so npf just makes things more compact for many situations.
      There are monitors that can power from 5 volts so the pogo pins and usb-c on the side will power it. I've got a few setups and tests on my Instagram.
      I think you have valid points but if we changed the camera to what you said, another 50 people would say it's a bad idea so when designing you have to make something that suits a majority and that's easy to work with.
      The concept of the camera isn't perfect but I don't think there's any other box style cinema camera that is easier to work with than the Eclipse.

    • @simon-altcinecam
      @simon-altcinecam 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey! I want to go into some technical stuff if you mentioned it.
      On the pogo pins, the only output which is 5V goes trough a protection circuit so if you short it, it will shut the power off without damaging anything. The pogo connector is actually embedded in the body so even if you want to put bare metal on top of the camera, perfectly flush it will not touch any of the contacts. Only concern could be water but at 5V as long as you don't want to pour salt water on it, it will not cause any problems. (Salt makes water more conductive so it could trigger the protection.)
      About the power options, i know you mentioned that you don't want adapters cause it may look absurd but in my opinion that is not the case. The back with the NP-F plate was designed with an NP-F to V-Mount adapter in mind. It gives plenty of space for the I/O's and if you see some of the recent posts on the Instagram there are shots where you can see the V-Mount on the camera. I don't think it looks any different than having a native V-Mount plate on there with enough spacing to give space for the connectors, even if they were angled. This way you have both battery options with just one adapter.
      About the monitor i cannot really go into any technical stuff. Having it movable would be a nice feature but again, its two guys making this camera without millions of funding so we don't want any features that would significantly increase the price either for us or for the client. Most people would use it in a Run and gun style for which its perfect, on a shoulder Rig you are going to have an arm with a monitor in front of you anyway, even with the Pyxis i don't think you want to look sideways for even a few minutes while you are holding and keeping the rig straight on the target. Some nasty neck pain there. Oh and there is actually a glass screen protector that we install on the screen already and its also embedded in the body which would protect it even if you drop the camera (as long as you don't drop it on a rock or something but even then as we all learned by now, glass is glass and glass breaks no matter if its 2mm thick or 1cm.)
      And then the PLA part.. i don't think that you have the right idea about how this Camera actually feels when you hold it. We say that its made from PLA but there is nothing plastic or unstable about it when you actually hold it. Its ROCK solid, there is zero flex or movement in there and the better shock absorption of PLA can actually protect the camera if its ever used for crash cam. There was hundreds of tests done by now on the strength of inserts and if they are installed correctly the 1/4-20 ones can hold up to 300KG of weight pulling straight down. This is only one insert without any reinforcement. On a camera most of the time you are going to use more than one mounting point even if the camera is made from stainless steel because lets be honest, you are not going to put a grand worth of monitor on with only one 1/4-20, even if you use NATO rails its usually bolted with two screws. And then again keep in mind that ours are reinforced from the inside of the body. Even if want to you cannot get those inserts out without breaking more than 1cm worth of plastic first which is impossible to do by hand. I would argue that you could tow a car with just one of those inserts.

    For a micro 4/3 sensor the image looks very very clean

      Thank you, it's actually super16 so waaaay smaller than m43. I did use a speedbooster for most of the shots though, apert from the shots with the horses at the beginning.

    Dazzling work, it would be in the best interest of everyone including Blackmagic to put you fellows in charge of developing a separate product line.

      Thank you so much. It would be amazing to develop something for them. With such limited resources we think it's a fantastic camera so could only imagine what's possible with their backing.
      We could make some many prototypes for them to choose from.

    I've got 3 questions, 1. Why does the video sample look like a cool tint (mild blueish colour) compared to the pocket 6k? 2. Is the v2 going to be the final model for sale? 3. Will I be able to buy Eclipse from Canada without shipping cost lol?!

    • @Altcine
      @Altcine  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ummm which sample in particular? The first sample with the horses has a heavy grade but the rest only have slight traces of teal skies etc.
      There will be only a V2 because this V1 is pretty much perfect so no need for us to do much more than the upgrades I spoke about.
      There's only a few going to be made but they will ship internationally and I suspect you will have some sort of customs charge.

      Thank you so much for your donation ❤
      We've got the new screen etc on order so once we've completed the V2 for our first customer and this one is upgraded and tested, we will put all info on our website and send out a news letter.
