    Like you I think the best option is both… the S5iiX is a killer hybrid camera for photography and it shoots really nice video. The black magic just kicks ass when it comes to video, the image is beautiful and I don’t care if it’s not a box it works for me. The fact that you can take the black magic out of the box put a lens on, a battery in it and go shoot for 2500 bucks to me is an amazing deal.

    Hey, I just watched a lot of your videos about the Lumix, incredible work! You said you mostly use it for talking heads and b-roll.
    My question is: *what codec are you shooting those in?*

      I use it for everything now!
      I shoot in h.265 long GOP 98% of the time 😂 There’s no magic with prores raw and BRAW is useful, just not worth it unless it’s for a big job that you want a failsafe and the best image possible. H.265 long GOP is perfectly fine for almost any situation and looks great! People hype the other codecs wayyyy too much.

      @TechnikFreund 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the rapid reply! I just shot H.265 for the first time the other day and was impressed how flexible it was to edit. Really think it deserves more of the hype for delivering so much flexibility at a small file size. And modern computers can handle it too 🙏

    I really like the filmic look of the BM cameras & have a lot of experience with Resolve Studio already. I dislike the idea of having to buy a separate monitor - having a simple menu system on a camera & internal BRAW are kinda deal breakers, so its an easy choice lol.

    Blackmagic was and is all about maximum image quality for the pricepoint, at the cost of everything else. Back when they released the 4k, the hybrid market was still doing 8-bit, and there was blackmagic throwing 12-bit raw at us. The body was a bit clunky, it didn't have a lot of the bells and whistles that hybrid cameras had, but the image was so good I was happy to compromise. Now though... hybrid cameras have gotten so good. The blackmagic image is still better... but only just, and its getting very difficult to convince myself to compromise on the other stuff for the sake of that.
    Honestly, what they need to do is just do their take on the FX3. I would buy that with no reservations.

    Internal RAW, a locking multi-voltage DC power connector, proper metadata timecode, simultaneous proxies, (soon) automatic integration with a cloud workflow, internal balanced audio with phantom power, not to mention the built-in live production resources in case you need to stream. The BMCC (FF) 6k provides tremendous value for productions that need to move beyond solo operator.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will say all of these thing can be had with the s5iix. The proxies and cloud workflow big as much but tbh that will be necessary for a very specific group of people.
      The FF is great! To say the s5iix is a slouch for anybody that’s not just a solo operator is a pretty big stretch though!

    • @waveland
      @waveland 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz I owned an S5IIx, and it can’t do the things I outlined. The Lumix doesn’t record internal RAW. It doesn’t have an independent power port-you have to tie up the USB-C. It doesn’t embed timecode properly-though you can record timecode as an audio track and embed it later, that’s an extra step. It doesn’t record simultaneous proxies. It requires an external hot shoe adapter to have XLR and phantom power. You can’t plug it into an ATEM switcher and control it remotely, nor can you control a zoom rocker and focus demand. The Lumix has other features not found in the BM, though in my use case, I have other ways to tackle both autofocus and stabilization. For me (though certainly not for everyone) the BM is a much better value.

    IMHO it's simple, if you ever run and gun, it's the S5iix, if your after a studio only camera it's the blackmagic.
    Also, the proresHQ to ssd is a game changer for those who use it as well as the in camera proxies.
    And the cost of a ssd is waaayyy less than the cfast2.0 cards that the blackmagic requires.

    I am a hybrid shooter so the BMPCC doesn’t make sense for me, as I need a good stills camera as well. • @Brookssmedia
    @Brookssmedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    2 things
    1 the lumix battery lasts two hours
    Black magic lasts about an 1hr 15
    That's like a 50% better better life for lumix that's huge!
    2. Imma be real with you, I can't see a difference to be honest. Like if I have to zoom in and pixel peep that means the image quality just isn't that much better. In a blind test I guarantee you no one could say which was which
    Also I don't understand why Raw is so important when all you're doing is doing the exact same thing you'd do on a 10bit camera. You're just slapping a rec 709 transform on both. If raw is great for pushing the image the image isn't being pushed.
    Lastly, good video.

    I don't understand why you compare using a codec like BRaw, which is natively from BlackMNagic. instead of doing it with Raw on a Ninja (if you want to compare RAWs) or Prores 422...or even one of the All Intra formats on the S5IIx. The truth is that in these codecs the dynamic range of the S5IIx is even higher than the BMPCC 6K Pro 🤷‍♂ The rest of your comparison seems fair enough.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Quick question. Not to be brash but why would I compre a completely different raw format that can be used on many different cameras… as opposed to trying to keep it apples to apples as that’s what this comparison is for. Thats the point of getting the s5iix in the first place.
      Forget the fact that I think prores raw is almost useless and ridiculously large compared to BRAW.
      Also, the dynamic range is actually a bit higher in BRAW in the s5iix than in any of the other codecs that you mentioned

    • @joserangelve
      @joserangelve 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! First of all, thank you for taking the time and for your honest response.
      My comment came because the video says which is better, the BMPCC 6K Pro or the Lumix S5IIx, right?
      So that includes each one being compared on their strengths, not on the strength of one of them, against the other's version of that same strength.
      Therefore, in this case, it is apples and pears 😇
      I have been an editor and videographer for about 15 years. Although I don't have the courage to make videos for TH-cam, like you. So my respects.
      And I'm surprised that someone says that Prores is useless. In editing it is a delight. It is true that BRAW has its advantages, but it depends on the style, the workflow and ultimately the taste of each person.
      I agree that if I just want a spectacular image, and I'm not interested in anything else, I'll go for the BMPCC without a doubt. In fact, it would be my choice in many cases...but I can't say that it is "better" than the S5IIx. It's better if you need BRAW. Oftenly. In fact, I am exploring that I will "cook" most of my content with a lut within the same camera, because it is a huge advantage in the end, if I already know from the beginning what I want to have as a result, especially if you do (like I do) cross-platform commercial content.
      And that is what the S5IIx does. And actually tasted both cameras before buy.
      So the title of the video (in my opinion, that could be wrong) should have been which one records BRAW better, not which one is the better camera. That's my point.
      Because that would be me saying that the Lumix is better at taking photos and therefore is a better camera than the BM.
      I love your videos by the way. Please don´t kick me 😅 @@AnthonyRodriguezz

      Appreciate the response!

      For example, at 09:42, anyone can see that you have completely lost focus. The focus falls on the edge of the concrete wall (right). And it's almost a static shot, without much movement. Then right after 09:48, the shot where you are standing, the focus also falls to the right on the concrete structure. And not to list further. Everyone can look. Maybe you simply have problems with your field of vision, and that could be one reason. My point is that in order to do a review of a camera, it must be approached seriously. And not to say that one camera is worse than another and you screwed things up.
