      But hey, as Germanic peoples, you share so much cultural and linguistic origins, like the word "berg." That word works from Holland all the way to Iceland!

    • @Moopie580
      @Moopie580 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@keithwald5349True, but the word is actually interestingly quite different in Norwegian. In other Germanic languages the word can mean both mountain/hill, while in Norwegian it only means hill. The standard word for mountain is fjell, though thats slightly dependent on dialect. Its still understandable for every Norwegian, but as a Eastern Norwegian i dont think ive ever used the word

    Credit to Norwegian explorers and navigators. A Norse settlement (L'Anse aux Meadows) of ~1000 years ago has been found and excavated in Newfoundland. In the early 20th C Roald Amundsen not only led the first party to reach the South Pole but also the first expedition to sail successfully through the North-West Passage. ❄🇳🇴

    Norway must be the only country on earth not named after the people who live there, but how to sail futher north.

    • @Tjalve70
      @Tjalve70 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are two theories about what the name "Norway" comes from.
      The generally accepted theory, is that it means "The way to the north".
      I find this to be extremely unlikely. One reason, is because nobody needed to go north, so it would be a nonsensical name to give. Another reason is because generally, (before the age of colonization) people tended to name their own land. And for someone living in a place, their land isn't the way to anywhere.
      The theory I support, says that the "o" in "Norway" is different from the "o" in "north". In Norwegian, the "o" in "Norge" (Norway) is pronounced as an "å" (or similar to the German "o"). Whereas the "o" in "nord" (north) is pronounced as an "o" (or similar to the German "u"). So if "Norway" was supposed to mean "north", then the pronunciation would be different.
      It is much more likely that the name is based on a very special (possibly unique) geological feature in the area. A geological feature that was very important for travel, and thus also for trade. At that time, the name "Norway" was only used for the southern and western coast of southern Norway. And in that area, there are a lot of fjords, and also a lot of islands just next to the coast. This row of islands will allow ships to sail up and down the coast without having to go all the way out into the open ocean, where both wind and waves would be a lot more dangerous.
      So it would make a lot more sense that this area would be called "The narrow way". While we currently do not have a Norwegian word meaning "narrow", that also sounds like "narrow", we have the word "nær", which means "near". And in Dutch there is the word "naar", which means "unpleasant". And these words are sufficiently similar to "Norway", that I will claim that is the most likely origin of the name.

    The Convention of Moss is really facinating acctualy, without it Norway wouldnt have its constitution in the Union with Sweden. Also, the Norwegian King at that time lived in Moss at the iron works main office building until the end of the war with Sweden. It was also in this building where they designed the Convention, but it was signed in another city.

The albanians have the same language with albanians for exaple : thika in albaniah means knife or sword . The king bardhyll (bardh yll) in albaniana meana white star. The shkodra lake kodra (kodra) in albanian means mountian where are mountians. Ths dalmatian tribe comes from the albanian word sheep, the arbani(arvanite in greek) comes from the albanian word worked field other words shepherd, dardani(dardh)in albanian means pear

    Norway is generally a happy and peaceful country that invests in North Sea oil. The only time the nation lost its spirit was in 2011 when a left-wing terrorist attacked a summer camp on the island of Utoya.
    Next is the Middle Eastern country that took over the Swahili coast and the only one beginning with O… Oman! 🇴🇲
