oh my god you're a lifesaver. Im a Yakuza completionist and I learned the bare basics of Mhjong playing Yakuza 0, and that was enough to help me clear the objectives in all games from there, but i got stuck in 4 because I could not meet the requirement they asked (gain a specific amount of total points in a single game). despite knowing the basics sometimes i lost and i didn't entirely understand why was it that NPCs could win when stealing, which led me here to learn exactly when its acceptable to do so after learning properly about yaku i managed to do it, that was almost 10 hours of trying just for this 😅
Glad I was able to help you get that medal! Wait till you get stuck on Kiwami 2's horrible Mahjong mission that you basically can't complete without the peerless tile 😭
@@JouzuJuls oh yeah i know the one, im playing them in chronological order so I've already gone through K2. perhaps my comment wasn't clear but by 4 i meant Yakuza 4 haha. I DID try to actually play around that low starting point in K2, but you need so much luck and to win several hands in a row to actually make profits and not go into the negatives instantly. I eventually looked up online where the consensus was "simply use the cheat item" and so i did haha.
Thanks for these guides, it makes it very understandable, a bunch of the guides tend to move quite quickly and use a lot of terms and be very confusing as a result.
This is a funny coincidence. I first introduced to your channel via the japanese learning videos half a year ago, then this month I started to take interest in mahjong and eventually decided to learn japanese mahjong and re-discovered your channel again lol
For those seeing my comment. These are complicated but theres also a 1. Most complicated is triple sequence like 123 123 123 or any order of each type of tile as long as they're same sequence different type of tile. The other five can be any sequence, or a triple, with any pair 2. All ends meaning all are 123s and 789s with a pair of 9s or 1s (doesnt matter what types of tiles) Both of these can be open
This channel deserves so many more subscribers your Japanese language learning videos are beyond valuable. Also I lose a lot in yakuzas mahjong mini game this video is great too 😂
Thank you very much for your kind words! And yea I had a feeling like at least 60% of the views would be people getting smashed in Yakuza LMAO. . If only the Peerless Tile existed irl...
Yep that's me I was doing good but these videos help me on yakuza this dude should have his own segment in the yakuza games for us CP achievement hunters
Really good resume on basic strat. I only call Chi or Pon when I have a Yaku ensured or it's clear and kinda easy to achieve, aaaand when calling pon or chi helps my hand to advance (less shanten away from tenpai).
Thank you very much! You should also consider whether anybody has called any kans because if someone has kanned- it would be in your best interest to NOT open so you can get more uradora!
Great videos and some helpful beginner advice! Just a bit of language help though, suit isn't pronounced "sweet", but rather it rhymes with "root" and is pronounced exactly the same as the suit that one wears. I think you're confusing "suit" with "suite" which is, for example, is like a hotel room with an adjoining room.
I remember reading that book on mahjong riichi strategy with that whole tsuji and 5 block thing. And man was that a waste of time. Just play the game and figure it out yourself- that's the best way to do it
It might seem a bit complex with all these rules and stuff, but once you get the hang on it, you start to realize that a few yakus aint really THAT hard to remember! ;)
Just started playing this cause I’ve been more than a little interested in it for a bit, it’s so interesting though I have no clue how people keep all the later yaku memorized(I only really have the mentioned ones memorized atm)
It'll come naturally when you play with better people than you- especially if you are also chatting with them. Fortunately, most of the time in Mahjong, simple is best (quite literally simples). The scoring system in Mahjong is really whack, something like "chanta" is worth the same amount as a Tanyao despite it being significantly harder to get in comparison ¯\(°_o)/¯ But yea if you ever see an odd one pop out of nowhere from someone else's hand for example, take a note of it and see if you can figure out what it was!
@@JouzuJuls I can see that a bit yeah, thanks for the general advice, having alot of fun with this game and your tutorials and the one it has helped immensely in getting me started
Pinfu is harder to explain to beginners because they need to know what ryanmen waits are, chinitsu is just much easier to comprehend and easier to spot lol
Tanyao does not necessarily work in all games, something players should be careful of. In Yakuza it's optional and the 3P variation I learned while I lived in Japan was full kuitannashi.
Standard rules permit open Tanyao. In both Yakuza and Mahjong Soul, tanyao can be toggled open/closed only. If you play at particular parlors in particular places, they may enforce local rules, but those are not the norm.
Hi Juls, I have a question. I have been using an anki deck with japanese vocabulary, for a while, but it does not contain the pitch accent paterns of words. Do you know if there is any way to transfer my progress form my current deck to different one that has them or to edit the existing deck to inculde the pitch patterns without losing my review schedual?
Hey there! Thanks for the question! I do have a way to auto generate pitch accent graphs for all of your cards in 1 go. It's an addon in this video here: th-cam.com/video/gTX3v6zHiIA/w-d-xo.html
Except with Mahjong, beginners don't really need to know all this if they just follow the one single rule that leads to a 40% win rate Check it out if you haven't already: th-cam.com/video/ow_Ws1re8pw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Nrj49HpQCW7wSj_Q
All this riichi and yaku stuff... Is that only in the Japanese version of Mahjong? I've watched multiple tutorials on how to play Mahjong (Mostly Hong Kong version) and not one is mentioning those sets of rules.
@@JouzuJuls I see! There is definitely some depth to this $60 set I bought. Man, I can see myself getting into this. I will definitely start with the Hong Kong style. It seems way more bare boned and less in depth as Riichi Mahjong. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video! Thank you for answering :)
Mahjong is too complicated for me. I still can't earn any points even though I watched all of the guides from internet including articles and even videos. Guess I'm not cut out for Mahjong huh 😅
3:23 everything about this clip is painful to watch. Why is the guy with the huge lead playing so aggressively? What the hell was the guy across from you even thinking?
