- Better touch responsiveness (180Hz touch polling rate)
- < 0.1 ms response time

- new 50Wh battery (upgraded from 40Wh. 30-50% more battery life)
- Faster charging
- Longer charging cable (2.5m vs 1.5m)

- Wi-Fi 6E
- Better thermals (bigger heat sink & fan. Quieter & cooler)

- Nicer case with small tinner case inside the big one
- Longer charging cable
Aptx hd and aptx low latency Bluetooth audio.
U mentioned the cable twice
@@DragoDan7786 it's because it's twice as long and he wanted to make sure people understood that
You know 3 FPS difference from 100 to 103 is a lot of difference from 30 to 33. Why even use 3 FPS as a metric. 😂
They also added metal fittings for screws and now they're also torx screws. Before they would just go into the plastic.
This actually legitimately is a pretty insane upgrade when all things are considered. I'll still probably never buy one for myself though as I'm not the target audience but I could see myself getting one for my sister some day for her birthday or as a christmas present or whatever as she uses a switch from time to time so having a massive library on steam that she could play on the go would be awesome.
It's crazy how many people are similar to you (in the sense they're not the target audience), but are also like "Steam deck bad because it isn't exactly what I wanted from it blah blah"
A product can both be good and not for you
@@TinkerTavernsyeah it called knowing when to appreciate a product, even if you not gonna buy it. Gatekeeper much?
@@TinkerTavernsuh they didn't say it was bad? They said it's great and they would buy one for their sister?
@@derickd6150 Oh dear, I must have not been very clear with my comment
I was trying to refer to the fact that more people should be like them, as I’ve seen so many people be like “ew gross only 20fps starfield CRINGE” instead of just acknowledging thay something can be good, even if it’s not their thing
@@malfaroangel3896 As per my other comment, I appear to have been misunderstood
I was specifically saying how I don’t understand why people gatekeep/complain about something not fitting their needs when it’s not trying to
i remember going into a Best Buy and putting on the BotW demo on the Switch and Switch OLED next to each other
the difference is night and day, gorgeous
it's why i've been waiting for the Steam Deck to get its OLED upgrade too and then they even made it HDR 90hz oml
I've been using Linux on my laptop, and I know that HDR is an issue with Linux. That makes it even more impressive that Valve has put in a lot of work for the HDR to work on steamdeck.
HDR isn't just an issue on Linux. Windows and Mac OS still haven't gotten it figured out properly.
@@gljames24 It's more of that it's ABSENT on linux as compared to windows and macOS that do have some way to handle it. Up until recently X11 and Wayland didn't (and still don't) have HDR support, gamescope (valve's wayland compositor) has a rather hacky (but absolutely fine just for games) way of handling HDR for games and that's very recent.
Unfortunately I don't see the desktop Linux HDR situation to solve itself within the next few months unless I missed some developments. There is a Wayland HDR protocol being developed, but it seems to be trying to get everything right at once, to say the least, which is arguably not that bad of an idea. Valve did great implementing the entire HDR pipeline, but their approach is different in some aspects from what will ultimately be standardized, AFAIK.
Compositors and clients will then have to start to follow the new standard, so we're not here yet.
(and here, I'm omitting the weird hostility a Valve developer was met with from some interactions with a HDR protocol developer, which is unfortunate and makes me worry about it...)
@@asuasuasu tbf kde 6 has HDR game support
@@gljames24yeah true, windows hdr is goofy af tbh
Now I'm gonna buy one. More SSD capacity, a better screen with a higher refresh rate is finally worth the 600€ for me
Plus if you just sell your old one, you're paying that minus what, 200-300?
I have sold my old 512gb at 370 so yes a difference of 300.....@@JasonDrums24
Luke is so interested in new Technology. What a podcast! Trying hard not to fall asleep.
Another good thing that comes from this that not many people are talking about is how the older models have significantly dropped in price, which is good for anyone who doesn’t care about the improvements of the new model
Valve's refresh has made the steamdeck just about perfect. Bummed the base model isn't OLED but I guess it makes sense business-wise.
It’s already great that you get so many upgrades and an OLED screen for basically no price increase
I’m glad you were wrong about inventory. Started looking like the original launch at first but days after launch there is still inventory of the limited edition and shipping times are reasonable.
Love that Valve said FU to the scalpers and made so many Limiteds that it’s still in stock days after launch
Valve is probably the one company that could put Linux on the map of mainstream consumers.
High praise from Linus. I remember him being somewhat unimpressed with the original when it came out compared to other handhelds at the time.
sold my old deck to a friend and bought one, cant wait, the screen and battery were my biggest issues on the deck
"Potential Pending Expenses," Is Luke about to be a Dad?!
I so want to get one even though I almost never game 'properly' (modding games is the closest most of the time). I just love how well-made it is and that it runs Linux (as a freakin' gaming device). Also curious about the look of HDR OLED.
I love my steam deck so much i use it pretty much everyday at work … i had to upgrade to the 1TB oled version because theres no way my anxiety would let me wait till steam deck 2 lol
Keep in mind the bottom end 256GB version is *not* OLED and does *not* have the new 6nm die.
The screen and bezels are what I originally took issue with the steam deck, this is the best refresh
Got one and have the OG one as well. It is worth the upgrade for sure. Loaded emulators and the OLED with the older games looks great, while Spider-Man Remastered runs well too and looks beautiful.
Finally got through yesterday to order one for the upcoming BDay for my older brother (he will be so stoked). Now the error and purchase spam block struggle continues since 14h now to order a second one for me...
I need to see them side by side in person. I use my Deck for the stack of indie games in my library. Much of those are pixel art, I don’t know that I would really utilize most of the new features..
The timing xD. Literally just bought mine like 20 mins ago.
Send it back for a refund
There is also another bonus with a 90Hz display and VSYNC, you can limit the Frequency at 30Hz, 45Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz, which allows a good frametime at pretty much any FPS target you can run the game. The LCD model can do 20 Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz, 60Hz.
20Hz is not ideal for anything, 40Hz is great if you have performance to go above 30 but can't get to 60... but the OLED model can do 45Hz, which gives a smooth enough experience to make some games running nicer in graphics in single player. Reducing a game from 60 to 45 FPS gives about 25% "spare performance" to make some graphic settings adjustments. (Like trying to run the game on Native Res instead of FSR upscaling)
I grabbed one, my biggest dissapointment on the original Deck was the lets be honest pretty poor screen which is almost completely fixed with this (VRR would've been nice), and they've mentioned the Dpad has some improvements and diagonals on the original felt impossible to me
Do you have anti glare?
Man I just got my Steam Deck with the last sale they did and I'm massively considering the limited edition... Valve killin it.
Just got my first Deck (never bought the LCD) and love it so far! Not really any complaints
Upgraded mine yesterday and its on its way
Upgraded mine, that screen alone makes it worth it. There still available....even the limited edition is still in stock.
Mine come in the mail tmmrw, sooooo hype!
That special edition, tho ❤ I'd buy that if it was available here in a heartbeat. Good job, Valve!
I have the itch to buy one, sometimes I'm on my couch and I gadly finish playing some games on there. But it's luxury, I don't particularly need one. Probably would wait for the 2, better battery, interchangeable battery would be neat
People were comparing it to the switch oled screen, which i have and love but man this thing blows that out the water
The limited edition ones are still in stock according to the steam page.
I kinda want to buy the Oled even though i already have the original. I’m in a spending phase like Luke so i won’t but valve rocks once more
Just FYI, 3 weeks later no stock issues. I don't think they ever had any. Just bought mine, got sent the next day.
Almost a full week later and the LE is still in stock. Not very limited I say. They stocked piled a ton of these. RiP any scalper trying on this one. Also this was the quickest I've gotten a product after launch. It was announced last Thursday so it would have been 5 full days where I sold my old steam deck, shipped it out and got my LE oled steam deck all on 5 days. That was crazy quick and I'm having a blast playing with it.
The RAM got bumped up too. It’s pretty amazing.
Same if this wasn’t the same year that the PS5 slim, Analog Pocket transparent, and TotK Oled switch came out I’d immediately get the Oled Steam Deck.
I also like to cop a PSPortal or Meta Quest 3 but can’t just buy everything I want.
I want one so badly but I can't justify. I have a regular deck
i have a 1st gen deck with a failed audio board. i don't want to sink more money into a new one
I sold mine and got an oled. I use it heavily so it's worth it to me.
I want one badly as well, mostly to play some older games with mods and a handful of games that aren't on PS5.
I've almost pulled the trigger on a couple decks that have been for sale locally for
Selling your old one might be a good option if you're really itchin
@@sid6645 yeah but I'll still have to wait until tax season because I'm not selling it BEFORE getting the new one. Then I'd not have a deck at all.
The steam deck oled will apparently only take 3-5 days to get delivered if I order one now so I’m guessing they’ve fixed whatever stock issues they had with the OG steam deck
The thing that I want for the steam deck is a av1 encoder, in the chip. Or at least some encoder for the console like h264_amf
I'm here 8 days after launch, and I can say, for now, i had no issue ordering one today. I went for the 512g
These are VR territory specs. 90hz is the standard for VR and the Wifi 6e is now the best way to play wireless VR. I dont think this is a coincidence. Valve are working on the success to the Index.
i ordered mine the day of and got it like a week ago they where on it with the shipping
FYI, if it's OLED, it probably does not have variable refresh rate(Freesync). Issues merging those technologies. OLED doesn't have gamma stability across variable image retention times. Some manufacturers have found ways around this, but none of them are simple solutions.
There are tons of TVs as an example, who do have VRR and OLED
@@matthiasschuster9505 It flickers then, or the black level shifts with frame rate. It's inherent to the tech. Just do a search for ' VRR inherently broken with OLED' for more info.
I don't even use the screen, but I'm loving the upgrade to the OLED. Way cooler. Way quieter. And that tiny bit of weight difference/distribution makes my hands hurt way less during long sessions.
Been ten days and you can still order the limited edition one without issue, Valve really is on their game and i fucking love to see it. Just ordered my limited edition lol.
I GOT MINE TODAY TB HUHUHUHU I couldn't believe it when I went to see it yesterday and it was available to me. I bought it right away.
@@alexbras Congrats, hope you're enjoying it. I've got the LCD model but jumped at the prospect of an OLED with better battery life lol.
I’ve only ever played my steam games on computer with keyboard and mouse. Do games on the steam deck use rumble/haptics?
The switch OLED is gorgeous, if this thing is even better thanks to HDR support, that is -very- appealing. And of course, 90 fps compared to the switch's, what, 30 in handheld?
2:33 I downloaded games at 550 Mb/s up to 6 months ago, but they capped the speed a lot in Steam on the Deck later.
In non-Steam benchmarks I still get 650-700 with the old model.
So that new Wifi chip doesn't really do anything better in the OLED.
I love the new OLED Steam Deck just one thing to make it even better is if Valve used Hall Effect joysticks, something all companies need to use that make products with joysticks in them, I had an Xbox controller with left stick having stick drift sucked I replaced the stick myself but for those who are not very keen into replacing joysticks themselves would be a lifesaver.
I read they considered it but they had some issues there with reliability.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Steamdeck OLED is not the same model screen as the Switch. They are different resolutions, they are just simply different. This may not seem like a big difference, but it is likely that even if it comes from the same manufacturer that the SteamDeck is using a newer model with more features.
It should also be noted that the Tegra X1 does not support HDR for the MIPI-DSI screen (Yes Linus, you were right. The switch definitely uses MIPI for all models, the Samsung AMS699VC01 for the OLED).
While not the same display, I have a feeling that they come from the same line and mother glass. The pixel density and subpixel layout are the same (from what I hear). Maybe some manufacturing optimization lets it hit 1000 nits.
They look very similar in comparison shots.
Probably just a newer version.
Many steps of the manufacturing would be the same, making it more price efficent.
I want one bad but I think I have to wait. I want dual boot support natively also usb 4 for docking a GPU for the desktop experience. I’d love to run Steam OS in handheld mode and windows 11 for desktop mode. I only play FPS games at a desktop. And the FPS games I play don’t work on steam os sadly.
It literally took me 2 hours to get my order for a limited edition deck to go through. On the plus side though, I've already got an offer on my og deck.
I'm travelling out of country in a week and have to leave the computer behind. I ordered an OLED one and I can't wait!
The final comments did not age well. Even the Limited Edition is still in stock lol
Under appreciate sidebar joke "you've got a phone. Don't you guys have phones?" In the background
The pain of being an early adopter. lol
But you got to experience it for a couple years (assuming you got it around when it first came out)
I just ordered mine
I'll stick with my Legion Go. I enjoy the size and the power. It's a great fit for me.
I wish I was into portable gaming. This is too good, like questioning the entire market good.
If you have a rocket ssd in the old steam deck could I put it in this one?
i love the idea of these types of swiss army devices they are almost powerful enough but just not quite there for me to adopt.
I purchased the original for $300 lol.. will be docked the whole time hooked up to a monitor like my original switch.. im the casual gamer so lcd dont bother me. Guess I dont know what im missing lol
I bought it instantly even though I have the original. it is THAT much better. I can't wait to get it
So the ps5 slim disc drive connects via an onboard connection. I wonder if third parties will figure out how to make an adapter that can work through usb-c. Would be really cool.
For what?
Bought the old version 1 month ago, feels good😅😅
I officially want one.
You had me at 90hz...imma kop one soon 🔜 ™️
90hz is worthless on a handheld. Literally the biggest waste.
@@NinjAsylum lol
Steam deck oled is Starting something big all the other pc handhelds gonna keep getting better too 👍🏼
Great, now test the audio jack.
I might get a steam deck oled at some point.....
After getting my hands on a limited edition can confirm everything linus said here is true
I'm really torn. I want a steamdeck for all the reasons Linus mentioned, but also want reliable ways to run windows based apps without a ton of tinkering. An OLED ROG Ally would have me in a minute.
Valve: here's the steam deck oled!
that's a funny way of saying 2
Dude on the right is my friends when I tell them about upcoming tech.
I would have instantly preordered one if I didn't just receive and upgrade mine that I got from the last sale
I have an LCD steam deck that's just over a year old, so I can't justify (Or afford) to upgrade it already. That being said, It's really tempting...
Just sell the old one and upgrade if possible thus mitigating upgrade costs. That's what I did :)
I bought a limited edition, so that I can give me old one to my nephew. He loves playing games with me.
Valve stockpiling Ws
The LE OLED is also lighter than the SE OLED by like 20 something grams.
It's nice!
Can i upgrade the ram to 32 and 64 gigs?
Steam deck is my preferred gaming device and I own all of them
I don’t commute and I hardly leave my house so I don’t see why I should get one cause I’m always a few steps from my pc and console but I want one even though I’m not sure when I’ll play it
I like it for those feeling like crap stay in bed days, and as its such a potent and energy efficient computer my deck has probably spent at least half its working hours running in place of my desktop - but booted into a normal Linux distro (desktop mode is alright but just not the same).
@@foldionepapyrus3441 i went through a fair number of Linux distros in my college years but eventually hated them cause they waste a lot of time to configure something like Bluetooth.
I wonder how they have improved over the years
Edit: spelling
@Linus @ 3:40 Steam deck can run windows games, but just not under the ilnux OS.
He said outside of windows
I bought the 512gb model. Cannot wait to play nintendo games on it. Did not buy a switch oled when it came out, that company can suck it.
Still wont ship to my area...😢
I would l like one but would rather save for a next gen device.
I bought one even though I already have one. Steam has always delivered great service and devices. I will support anything they make ATM.
Valve takes the cake in quality of product and customer support.
As an Aussie.. it would be lovely to even have the option to fucking buy one.
Well don't I feel dumb for getting a refurbished Steam Deck in August. Telling myself I don't need it, the one I have is fine but got damn did I just get bad timing lol
So the steam deck is basically the next Gen Switch… except it’s not made by Nintendo
My friend is genuinely thinking of getting one to emulate switch games
@@Al3ksandrOrlov I might eventually do the same as well. Once my finances are in better shape and if the Switch 2 (or whatever they call it) doesn’t have backwards compatibility with the Switch
Yes but better and can be used as a pc.
Better in every way, Valve doesn’t have to appease investors and they’re pro consumer…
I would buy one today if they actually sold it in Australia.
Absolutely, so many Australians would.
Glad they all companys are going to keep working to make your game optimized and not be so lazy bc there are handhleds
Linus…get your man a steam deck oled lol you see he wants one lol you got the bread
The 1TB version is over 1000 usd where i live... :(
Why can't I turn off the screen while downloading games
