You should make a video on how to organize a LAN party (not huge, normal size) and which games and programs to use, how to set it up etc.
It would be really cool, and maybe help revitalize the space
Agreed!
Exactly, I have a very limited idea of how they run.
i look at that
Dude I've been going to LAN parties for decades and it can still be a frikkin nightmare trying to get some stuff going
@@wing0zero I know. I've organized a few, just a handful of people, and it's still a nightmare. Sometimes the game doesn't run right, sometimes there are driver issues, sometimes it's a connection issue, a network card setup issue etc
If he organizes them regularly, even with "less tech savvy" people, then he must have some tech tips 😉 on how to run everything smoothly in the least amount of time possible.
I thought LAN party etiquette meant bringing a 12 pack of beverage you and the host are okay with (alcoholic or not, depending on age + if the host is okay with alcohol), and then completely forgetting about it.
The most painful truth
I think the steam deck and other portable handhelds could bring back a sort of lan party if they implemented an easy to setup adhoc mode like psp games used to do
A router works well enough.
@Aethelbeorn yeah just like a pain for random unplanned get together to carry around
@@minarchisttrucker2775 True.
I remember doing that back in high school about 15 or so years ago it was awesome. One mate had a mario kart game and we would all meet up at the school library at recess and lunch to play against each other. I also had that cod 4 ds game at the time which also allowed people to join you.
@@kadupseThat's sweet. I never knew that
Back when I hosted LAN parties, we generally had success with people being cool. Occasionally someone would get invited that was just a bag of dicks. I remember one guy that kept insisting that his system host the game, for some reason, even though it was inferior to the system that we were using to host. He was just annoying as shit and never got invited back. Another time everyone had agreed to "no Zerg rushes" playing Starcraft. Yet one dude I had invited from work decided he wasn't going to do that and immediately took someone out with a Zerg rush. He also said he was going to bring some snack, and didn't. I also had to pick him up despite the fact that he had a car, and no reason he couldn't have driven himself. He never got invited back either. I wouldn't have excluded him had he just been upfront and said he didn't agree... fine, but people weren't playing expecting a rush, because everyone agreed.
Nice, my friend has hosted a small party pretty much every month which I've been going to since 2002, just holds 10 people and he puts a barbecue on and still a blast 20 years on.
I love that Linus is casually eating doritos while Luke is talking hahaha
After visiting Mexico and being reminded what Doritos used to taste like (completely coated chips, a little spicy), it always surprises me when anyone eats them in NA. So bland and flavorless, they changed them to accomodate American bland paillettes, and did the same in Canada. It's so disappointing.
Cool ranch is even worse, tastes like absolutely nothing here.
@@erichb4530Ranch sucks gotta get the Sweet Chilli Heat
First rule of Lan gaming. Bathe before hand, and bring pitstick.
Don't just BRING it please USE it😅 haha
Luke and I had the exact same reaction playing Pico Park. I got to a point where I had to leave the game and the voice chat because it was a simple level but no one was taking the time to do it properly. Pico Park is kind of like the Monopoly of video games, if you have the right people in the right mood it can be a great time, but if you don't it can ruin friendships.
How is counter-strike different from left for dead in a lan party setting. 😅
Disc Jam is amazing!
Haven't been to a LAN in LONG time my old High School 2009-2010 had a small gaming club I was part of and held 2 overnight LAN parties at the school played so much Team Fortress 2, Star Craft and Left 4 Dead. Would love to go to a LAN again now with all the multiplayer games that have came out in like 13 years.
This is genuinely just a straight up hang out WAN show episode. Not even mad.
Discjam was pretty good. You should try Windrunners 1 or 2
Man, pico park is the most hilarious of party games out there. There's nothing better than letting your friends die or completing the level and having your buddy ran off and die and having to restart lmao
Reminds me of when people didn't want to play a local card game "Prší" (a variation of Mau-Mau) because I kept track of where good cards are in the pack during the game and which player has them currently. I also remembered how many cards of each suit were thrown and thus estimate the likeliness of my opponent having a card of that suit in a low card count situation. Therefore I could choose suits which would not match their carda more often that yes and also avoid danger of cards with special effects being played against me which gave me >50% win rate in a game of 4 players where 1 player wins.
Honestly that sounds like not fun at all for all the others, I'd not play with someone like that too
I held my 1st LAN earlier this year (i have never attended one so i hosted one)
So i went and questioned everyone and got a list of games to predownload to play. They ended up only playing league and sea of thefs all games that I dislike.
I also ended up cooking all day for everyone and no one brought anything.
I dont think im going to host one ever again after that.
Did you end up having a steam cache? If so did you have any data from it?
Steel sharpens steel...
Linus has 80 people at his house and doesn't even know half of them lol😂
can we get a top free LAN games list (and if they work on xbox)
I love Supreme Commander but I don't like to play with people I don't know very much 😅
what game are they talking about?
counter strike is a classic lan party game though
I don't fully understand what exactly a lan party is? I get to it that multiple people are connected through a network?
Bunch of nerds set up their PC's in the same place and jam out. Good times with the bros
@@Hitical_Crit what is the difference between jamming out online and in person?
It's just fun to be with your friends, play some games, have some food, drink coffee and pull an all-nighter@@TheVirtualArena24
Being there in real life just adds to the fun, and usually (in my case) we go out getting snacks etc, watch movies while eating and so on. It's just a heck ton of fun compared to online gaming
@@Bilen74 understandable
Did I actually heard Midtown Madness?! People know about this game?
It was one of the big racing games back in the day
It's abandonware so common at LAN parties
Гуфовский на превью?
What the hell game are they playing that it takes weeks for a turn?
He meant in game. Game progress by a week each turn on all the decision u make. It's just a button press and a turn ends.
RISK online.
@@Mihokorii Ah, got it.
Unless you're referring to a segment where I zoned out and didn't notice, I think they were talking about a physical game called Super Chexx. Luke and Linus seem to play it regularly after the WAN Show each week. For those of us across the pond like me, it seems to be an ice-hockey equivalent to table football (different mechanisms but somewhat similar idea)
Uh, counter strike was one of the most popular games when we used to have LAN parties. Its multiplayer, its PC. Not interested in terrible looking console ports.
thats an old wan show come on
oh no its not i confused it with another one
Lol
I have that thing where I cant listen to people eating, its a common disorder.
Listening to Linus eating doritos was like being forced to wear an itchy sweater... it made me have to skip a significant portion of the podcast.
1st
no one cares
Honestly 😂
Congrates
OK
