You guys are very knowledgable and I like your videos, I always learn something. MY POV is that MB, porsche, Audi and BMW are all really good cars. Just ordered a new 2024 AMG GLE 53 W warts and all, though I almost cancelled to order a Porsche because MB deleted an option from my build that I really wanted without any notice. I was told to feel lucky that they did not send me a post card simply saying "Piss Off". However I have driven MB for 20 plus years. I would say that your comment that the car rode like "ass" while funny, is something I have not heard before, most people say that it rides very well. Yes I ordered the 21" wheels instead of the 22" wheels as I wanted to avoid the "STIFFER"ride. Putting all that aside, you guys are great and I really enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
Yeah I agree to buy either the high end V8 or lower end 350. The problem is the lower end version does not feel like a luxury SUV. No ventilated seats. No back seat climate control. 255hp motor. Same with driver amenities. At $70k you're getting a shell. And the high end AMG 63 is over $100k. To get a decently optioned GLE you will need to pay over $80k. Its why I did not buy/lease a 3rd one. I priced it out online and it was $84k for what I want which is a well appointed SUV but not over the top. I bought elsewhere.
So I can't deny how crazy expecnsive the benzes are but then again it's been that way for years. Technically the version you wanted to drive was a the gle 450. The 53 amg is the sport version of the 450.
They were cheaper. Before the the pandemic. In January of 2019 I bought an amg gle 43 for 20% off msrp no hassle. That’s worth it. Now..no way in hell lol

Having traded an RDX (2021) for a 2023 GLB lease. I quickly found out, that for a Mercedes to feel very luxurious…everything has to be optioned out. I ended up taking a $53-55,000 GLB in order to feel like I had a substantial upgrade over the RDX.
Right? I kept looking at MB/Audi/BMW's websites and configuring options to get what I wanted, and it started to bug me that basic safety shit like radar cruise are still extra cost when my wife's CR-V had it as standard equipment. (lemme sound like a Honda fanboy for a sec, because waaaaay back in, I think 1978, Road & Track published their very first test drive of the then-new Accord, and they made a big deal about how the car included so many standard features that were typically extra options from other manufacturers... I guess some things never change)
@@LJ-wo1wf I don’t know, but somethings like the safety features, should definitely be standard. Especially for the starting price that they ask for any of the Euro luxury brands.
You literally downgraded. The GLB is the piece of shit model that gets a cheap ass parts from the left over bin and gets a Mercedes start slapped on it. FWD for the Germans are all dogshit lets be honest.
Nickle and diming standard features in high end vehicles seems like a pretty German car company thing to do. We got a Audi Q5 in May and it just spent the last month in the shop getting the steering sorted out. During that time we had a Honda Civic loaner vehicle and it has adaptive cruise and a touch screen on the infotainment amongst other things the Q5 didn't have unles you could find one with those options which we could not. Seems silly. And on another note, is it just me or is Mercedes Benz just dropping the ball on all of their vehicles lately?
Hard to imagine buying or even leasing a car that does so little for so much money compared to even basic offerings from other manufacturers. Personal opinion, I don't think I would ever buy something in the guise of a "Luxury" product. I'm paying for capability, and if it comes with cloth seats, so be it. I definitely don't mind doing my part to try and reduce the ever increasing car prices slowly pricing working people out of transportation in the US.
I can't criticize those who have the money for wanting the experience of a luxury product, but I think your first sentence cuts to the heart of the problem: Whether a luxury customer or a regular Joe/Jane, it's impossible to justify paying full-on luxury prices and not getting a full-on luxury product.
Made a similar comment about the EQS. It's a struggle to find the appeal of this product beyond imagining that if you had *so much* disposable income that it didn't matter what you spent. But then, as was mentioned, it's not even the most capable, or the most comfortable, so who is it for? "Stretching" your budget for something so expensive gives the impression you're not the target market.
yeah, and then working ppl at the bottom will cost a ton more to whatever industry they're in, OR gvt will have to subsidize them, as they should, given the far-too-quick implementations of zero emissions in places like my state, Washington and other states now in the U.S. Here the new fuel industry tax has screwed the little guy, bcuz fuel rose ten percent due to it and only little ppl rely on cars to drive FAR to get to work. Worst regressive tax in american modern history IMHO, at THE worst moment to do it, i.e the worst inflation since ancient days. And im' very very politically liberal, so that's really saying something. We dem's are shooting ourselves in the feet here in WA and it's a risky thing to do at this stage of history.
This car is a pass it should have the V8 in the 580 to be worth it. I recommend you pick the 580 or the 63s based on what you value more comfort or performance. Skip all the other variants of GLE except 450 of you want a low cost option.
I'll chime in on what's going on with GLEs, as a family member owns a GLE 53 albeit fully optioned at around 105K. First, MB is more "Porsche-fied" in pricing these days, and adding options like active ride control and AMG track package will make a huge difference in handling and ride qualities similar to Cayenne's PDCC&RAS. MB's traction control however is intrusive as usual, so you are not going to get oversteery characteristics but rather neutral to understeer. What you are going to get are nice massage seats, premium interior (go for the exclusive full beige leather!), huge rear seats and trunk space - biggest in the segment AFAIK. It is more SUV than a Cayenne for sure, but also for less money pound for pound. Of course because the price difference isn't huge, we tried to get the 63S at first, but there's essentially a stop-sale on all V8 4.0 models (including GLE580, GLE63S) this year, likely to meet the stupid emissions regulations. I suspect this is also why GLC63S V8 models never came to the US since last year.
Running gear is the same for the 53 and 63. The difference is the 0-60 and top speed - speed you simply cant use on modern roads - ergo the only reason to buy a 63 is to say you have one. Let the ego go and save 30% on purchase price even more on depreciation and then a ton on running costs….the 53 begins to make sense
Ouch I own a 53. Haha but I was ordering a 450 with E ABC, got cancelled so rolled into a 53 with active ride control. Handles great but I spent more time in dealer for recalls and warranty works.
Except, it isn't $93k. At my local dealer that thing goes for $120$ without extras and the 63 AMG starts at $190k. You've got to be quite dumb to pay that price for a non-S-class tier Mercedes.
the durango looks nothing like this inside, what are these two smoking? I get the questionable value of this product, but if nothing else it looks pretty darn good with the panamericana grill
Too bad this didn't have the Driver Assistance Package. The adaptive cruise control, lane keep and active steering is honestly the best thing about the vehicle. On long trips it's a godsend.
On the subject of SUVs, I know it’s not your usual fare, but I’d love to see you guys get a Ferrari Purosangue into The Shoppe to analyze its interesting new suspension tech that negates the need for anti-roll bars. No one does a technical analysis on things like that better than you guys 🤓
This is just Mercedes Benz that holds on and tries to get their clients still into sedans and stationwagons. Just by keeping their SUV's bad and expensive. Thx MB!
Well, that's what you yanks want don't you stupid big boat SUV's ? So you get what you want don't you ? You hate sedans and station wagons , we call them estates elsewhere , and the German wagons are super super fast and great all rounder daily drivers but you yanks are oblivious to them and stick to your SUV craze . So there you go ! So stop complaining about expensive big boat SUV's that don't ride or handle that great. You wanted them you got them , period !
@@k0zzu21 Very true. I 'd prefer a great German wagon like the Audi RS6 Avant , the MB AMG E53 estate or the new BMW M3 Touring , they are great riding, handling ,practical and super fast all rounders than a big expensive SUV any day !
Uh. No. Between the engine, transmission and suspension tuning, interior amenities this SUV is pretty reasonably priced. I don't see how you can say this looks like a $40,000 car lmao.
Mercedes has really become stronger in the "nickel and diming" department, frankly their offerings all cost more than their class competitors while really not adding anything over them. AMGs need a chiropractic subscription, they charge you for unbelievably basic equipment like adaptive cruise control, and the creaks on the interiors really just don't inspire me to spend more on a Mercedes compared to their competitors.
I thought mbux was the gold standard in infotainment? If it’s not what is the best infotainment system now? I like it because it’s touch screen, touch pad, or voice control. Best of all worlds. Not sure what you mean when you say it’s “not the best”… when all the other reviewers rant and rave about it.
I love the comments about how it rides like trash. These giant wheels in all cars (even some less expensive ones) is starting to become ridiculous. I'm so happy I didn't go for the bigger wheels or the run-flats in my X3, and as a consequence, it actually is comfortable! Note about the title / description : Did you mean Audi SQ7 ? (and not SQ5?) the Q5 is in the same size category as the GLC not the GLE.
2:55 to fix your gripe, Jack, as a sort of "secondary" owner to my grandpa's 2022 gle350, you can make a shortcut to skip tracks, at least on Carplay. on the left gauge screen, press the home button and go to Media. there, you should see the song playing; you can swipe up/down to skip tracks. other than that i pretty much agree with his pros and cons about the car. i can't talk about the powertrain much since i've only got the 350 but still it's a decent car to drive as far as new mercedes products go. it's easier to drive/use than the EQS450 my uncle let me drive around LA once, at least.
I bought a '24 63s. I considered the '53 but by the time I added up all the options that came standard with the 63s there was only about a$15k difference in price so.....hello '63s...it's been a great car so far with only 1 gripe: those haptic controls on the steering wheel....I can't count how many times I have changed the radio without wanting to!
The X5 M50i (now X5 M60i on the refresh) is similar in price, has a lot more power (523 HP, in the 3’s 0-60 and low 12’s in the quarter), and has good handling with a decent enough ride. The one I test drive was $96K, but it was loaded with massaging seats (amazing) and the big money Bowers and Wilkins sound system. I’d take that all day over this Benz
At this point, people who would buy this belong to a cult of Mercedes. Specs, reliability, and usability/feasibility mean nothing to them; just the prestige.
I think you mean the GLE has 6 different trims / engines, which is something Mercedes has always offered. Like how you could get an ML 350, 320 CDI, 550 or 63. Also I think the GL was also in production by 2008, and the R-Class if you want to consider that an SUV.
So V8 and GLE as an option, would you think about a GLE 580? It's not an AMG but it would have a V8 and still outperform the 53 in power/speed but be more "refined" like the 350/450 GLEs. Thoughts?
if they meant the Telluride, everybody pops the corks over how that car supposedly feels more expensive than its $50,000, so until you try to turn corners it's not that much of a stretch.
I put an order for amg 53 w 3 rows , 84k waited 11 months during 21’-22’ summer, pretty sure dealer skip me over since I locked msrp, and they probably under sold me, no matter, they returned my deposit and I got a 23’ ford timberline expedition w way more space n capability 440 hp 510 lb towing my boat w ease , yes I paid a little more for the ford and loving it
Drove the GLE 350 and 430 and they were nice. My wife liked them, but I’m getting an X5. They sadly play the options game too, but nowhere as badly as MB.
Out of all of the "half-baked" AMG 53/43 offerings from Mercedes, what is the @savagegeese model of choice? I personally like the idea of a CPO E53/E43 sedan once they've gotten demolished by depreciation.
Not the biggest fan of this segment, but idk why anyone in the market for this segment would get the gle 53 amg when the bmw x5 m60i is in the same price range with 523 hp v8 🤷♂️
Thank you for the video, super concise and on-point - love it!! Also, I would love to know your thoughts on 350 vs 450 - is the 6 cylinder worth the extra $?. Or, would you go for a 580 or a 63 considering the price difference?
Any time I see a Coupe SUV, I look to see who was stupid enough to buy a car that sucks as an SUV and sucks as a sedan - the worst of both worlds. And yea, they always look ... special.

scumbags is not what they are. They r simply able to charge a premium for the 'class' status of the brand and the adittedly impressive overall engineering prowess. Bmw, while excellent, is just not at MB level in quality/durability/longevity (and thus value or risk to owning)
Keep it up.
Probably can’t afford one.
Buy a GLE 450 and get this 53amg grill installed myself 😊
So I can't deny how crazy expecnsive the benzes are but then again it's been that way for years. Technically the version you wanted to drive was a the gle 450. The 53 amg is the sport version of the 450.
Yeah benzes have never been cheap. My 93 500SL was 90k new in 1993 dollars which is insane.
They were cheaper. Before the the pandemic. In January of 2019 I bought an amg gle 43 for 20% off msrp no hassle. That’s worth it. Now..no way in hell lol
Hard to make the case for this when the GLE 580 exists (not to mention the SQ7/SQ8 and X5).
Those are all ass, get an S class, A8 or a 7 series. Its 2023 and people still buy these icecream vans 😢
@@hexagonosaurus5848 if you need a trunk bigger than a Prius, these sedans, while very nice, simply won't cut it. I wish I could buy a wagon BMW 3-series in the US, like, a M340i touring. I couldn't so I got a X3 M40i, it's still pretty good...
@@MrTresto serious question: would you buy a M340i Wagon of somebody imported them to the USA?
if i had the money, yes. Especially if i also had a regular Suv namely the Toyota new Landcruiser, assuming it's even sold in the US, not sure.
@@questionyourself718
Love the honesty in your review, I would love to see what you think of the GLS 580 or GLS 63 and maybe a real comparison with the X7.
Love Mark's constant stink face...😂
Mark is annoyed with everything everywhere and rightfully so.
Adaptative cruise control is an option? That's unacceptable. A base Corolla comes with adpatative cruise control and a decent lane centering assist.
Most vehicles have it as an option these days. At least more expensive vehicles. Usually comes with a package anyways that is put on most vehicles from the port.
I absolutely love how they purposely did not clean this vehicle up! This is a utility vehicle and people need to see how these things look after people live in them! Love this channel! Keep the content coming!
@@sammyg4806 you could have bought a car for that money.
@@hexagonosaurus5848 Indeed, but it is a lease, so you don’t quite feel the hit as it happens 😂
Betcha they've shifted all the R&D onto their EVs and are mailing in the rest.
S-class seems to be still good but the rest of their models became ass. Bmw and Audi win in every other category.
When u said 93 thousand dollars i almost spit my coffee out😂
Hard to imagine buying or even leasing a car that does so little for so much money compared to even basic offerings from other manufacturers.
You can skip between tracks by swiping left or right at the top of the touchpad in all Mercedes vehicles
This car is a pass it should have the V8 in the 580 to be worth it.
I recommend you pick the 580 or the 63s based on what you value more comfort or performance.
Skip all the other variants of GLE except 450 of you want a low cost option.
Even a Forester comes with adaptive cruise control as standard. 😁
Lots of mid-priced cars do. But they're comparing it to their in-house measure. Not that of the industry standard. Poor measure.
Would my choice of X6-40i (not the V8 version) be a better choice in terms of looks, handling and overall money's worth?
Running gear is the same for the 53 and 63. The difference is the 0-60 and top speed - speed you simply cant use on modern roads - ergo the only reason to buy a 63 is to say you have one. Let the ego go and save 30% on purchase price even more on depreciation and then a ton on running costs….the 53 begins to make sense
All of my neighbors will finally give me the respect I deserve when I pull up in this blasting Rammstein.
Too bad it cost $93,000 and still didn't have it.
Do not v8 for ze bigger engine.
You hate sedans and station wagons , we call them estates elsewhere ,
and the German wagons are super super fast and great all rounder daily drivers
but you yanks are oblivious to them and stick to your SUV craze .
So there you go !
So stop complaining about expensive big boat SUV's that don't ride or handle that great.
You wanted them you got them , period !
Well a wagon is superior in every way. It respects the laws of physics.
@@k0zzu21 Very true.
I 'd prefer a great German wagon like the Audi RS6 Avant , the MB AMG E53 estate or the new BMW M3 Touring , they are great riding, handling ,practical and super fast all rounders than a big expensive SUV any day !
Save 18k and buy an Acura MDX Type S
$93K for that thing? What?! Looks like a $40K - $45K car maximum. And with depreciation it will be worth about $20K in 5 years. Insane.
Uh. No. Between the engine, transmission and suspension tuning, interior amenities this SUV is pretty reasonably priced.
I don't see how you can say this looks like a $40,000 car lmao.
Dude in what world does that look like a $40k car LMAO that makes it seem as though you've been out of touch with the industry for the past 5 years.
“It’s not as hideous as an X5.” I actually think the X5 looks pretty good 🙂
They both look like shit, but the GLE somehow manages to look even shittier.
I agree, it is very handsome. Although I still think I prefer the looks of the GLE.
horrific grille! @@FranciscoDiaz-vf7mc
I think there is an easier way to skip tracks with a swipe gesture at the top of the touch pad.
I enjoy your HDR content thanks for uploading 4K hdr
I’m getting blinded in bed
GLE/ML has always been my favorite SUV from Mercedes Benz as far as design.
Love this channel for its unfiltered reviews.
Love the honesty !
$93k and I've forgotten what it looks like while writing this.
Yeah, but its a bmw...
@@danhobart4009 right, a BMW that is better than that Benz.
For almost $100k you should be able to get a X5 M. It's atrocious how expensive these premium cars got recently.
@@danhobart4009 a BMW that is better in virtually every way than this Benz.
I have an X5 M50i. Biggest difference is the torque, 0-60 is more like straight 4 seconds I'd say. I think the 40i is almost as fast as this "AMG".
Are these made in Alabama?
Yes it is. In Tuscaloosa Alabama
Video quality is very amazing keep it up.
Love your honesty about these throwaway vehicles
Is it just me or does Mark have similar looks and mannerisms to Maynard James Keenan?
At this point, people who would buy this belong to a cult of Mercedes. Specs, reliability, and usability/feasibility mean nothing to them; just the prestige.
The GLE line alone has 6 different models (not including the coupe). And to think that as of 2008 Mercedes had just 2 SUV's, the ML and the GLK.
An the older Mercedes would remember your drive mode
So like there was 9 different ML models in 2008? Pretty stupid comment lol
@@hexagonosaurus5848
If you're reading it backwards
I think you mean the GLE has 6 different trims / engines, which is something Mercedes has always offered. Like how you could get an ML 350, 320 CDI, 550 or 63. Also I think the GL was also in production by 2008, and the R-Class if you want to consider that an SUV.
I feel like the average cost to get in a german luxury car is now $70k
wait till next year or two or there and buy a 2-4 y.o. unit. Duh.
OMG! You guys are absolutely AMAZING!! Your honestly is so refreshing and helpful. You just simplified my choice!!
The GLE450 is the one to get, and comes with an Inline-6 and the 48V system, which is slightly detuned from this GLE53.
So V8 and GLE as an option, would you think about a GLE 580? It's not an AMG but it would have a V8 and still outperform the 53 in power/speed but be more "refined" like the 350/450 GLEs.
Thoughts?
You should've mentioned like which KIA model it feels like :D
if they meant the Telluride, everybody pops the corks over how that car supposedly feels more expensive than its $50,000, so until you try to turn corners it's not that much of a stretch.
I put an order for amg 53 w 3 rows , 84k waited 11 months during 21’-22’ summer, pretty sure dealer skip me over since I locked msrp, and they probably under sold me, no matter, they returned my deposit and I got a 23’ ford timberline expedition w way more space n capability 440 hp 510 lb towing my boat w ease , yes I paid a little more for the ford and loving it
You can skip track by a swipe to the right on the touch pad
Mark, the Patreons should get that beeped clip.
$3 extra g's you can get a nicely equipped GLE580 with a superb ride and the glorious V8 engine!
You don't quite need the 63 (although that's a good thing), there is also the GLE 580.
Drove the GLE 350 and 430 and they were nice. My wife liked them, but I’m getting an X5. They sadly play the options game too, but nowhere as badly as MB.
Got my Arby's, and ready to watch!
Out of all of the "half-baked" AMG 53/43 offerings from Mercedes, what is the @savagegeese model of choice? I personally like the idea of a CPO E53/E43 sedan once they've gotten demolished by depreciation.
The face lifted C43 is a ton of fun
Not the biggest fan of this segment, but idk why anyone in the market for this segment would get the gle 53 amg when the bmw x5 m60i is in the same price range with 523 hp v8 🤷♂️
Prediction before watching: they’ll talk shit about the tech
The HDR videos are really good
Thank you for the video, super concise and on-point - love it!! Also, I would love to know your thoughts on 350 vs 450 - is the 6 cylinder worth the extra $?. Or, would you go for a 580 or a 63 considering the price difference?
I thought the GLE580 is a weird space being a v8 but not the AMG space? Maybe they should’ve called it a GLE 43 AMG with a $75k starting price
If it's ridding hard are you in comfort mode?
You should do the c63, £100k and not even a 6 cylinder
I can’t wait for their C63 review. It’s going to be peak SG.
At this cost, you're better off with the similarly priced GLE 580 (turbo V8) unless you really want the AMG aesthetic.
This car at $93k is a slap in the face. Pretty soon they will price 4 pot engines at $100K+
An X3M would mop the floor with this car in every aspect.
Any time I see a Coupe SUV, I look to see who was stupid enough to buy a car that sucks as an SUV and sucks as a sedan - the worst of both worlds. And yea, they always look ... special.
Our 2024 Mercedes GLE53 broke down at 3900 miles and will be at the dealership for 1 month+ waiting for parts! I really regret buying it and will never buy a Mercedes again!
How is this car comparing with MDX Type S Adv?
