- Hello, my name is Justin Ackerman and this is my 2023 Toyota GR86. In this video i finally throw a tune on my 86, after months of needing one. I reached out to Boosted Performance Tuning and told them what i needed and they were able to get a tune sent over for my car. I show you all the process you would take to tune your GR86/BRZ using their kit they sell, as well as some of the features that are provided with this tune. Bro, that’s awesome you wanna get an 86/BRZ. I personally like the look of the GR alittle more tends to why I bought a Toyota 😅 Both are amazing cars, and definitely the best car I’ve ever owned. Still kinda new to this whole TH-cam stuff, and a lot of the older video’s definitely are alittle rough 😂 but practice makes perfect in my book. Thanks for the support big dawg 💙

Haha, yeah I totally see it also 😂 The front bumper and I think suspension setup is legit the only thing that’s differentiates both cars. I knew I was gonna go with aftermarket suspension eventually on the car anyways so it can down to which I enjoyed the look of more. Plus Subaru don’t got Neptune Blue 😈

@@Justinackerman_ do you notice a big speed difference with the new tune?
For sure was a change in speed with the new tune, but not a huge difference, but definitely felt a gain in power in the mid range where that typically torque dip would usually be at.

Just wait until next weeks video where I go more in depth with how the burble tune works. Truly some insane pops and backfires, a lot crazier than how it was on the factory tune for sure. I unfortunately didn’t really show that feature off the greatest in this video. So I’ll make sure to go crazy in next weeks video 😈😏
I am thinking of going full bolt on before getting the tune. I currently have PLM catted header, and remark axleback. I am looking finish build with JDL overpipe/frontpipe combo and remark midpipe.
You hear anything about the overpipe/frontpipe being restrictive part of the exhaust? I keep hearing it can be, but I am not sure. Not sure if its even worth going FBO tbh lol.
What’s up homie, so to my knowledge I’ve heard it can be abit restrictive but not by much. Usually you will see a more of an HP increase from going aftermarket headers on these cars and E85 and a tune. For me personally considering the car is so loud as it sits, I’m gonna hold off on a overpipe ect… Maybe unless I could find a good deal on a high flow catted one. That’s for sure one of my most favorite parts, as cool as the loud cold start was. It honestly was super obnoxious especially at 6am so this was such a huge help turning the cold start down. Would love to thrown the car on a dyno around in my area to see how much it’s making. Honestly not expecting a huge difference, but I can for sure notice a difference in torque in the mid range where that torque dip usually would be. Thanks for watching and supporting fam 👏💙

Congrats on already having your dream car! This is the first time I’ve ran across your channel. I always loved the gt86 when it came out and have recently been looking into the gr86. I’ve got a hour ride one way to work and have been wanting a fun sporty daily because the 2000 corolla isn’t cutting it and the truck in my profile pic gets 8mpg so I can’t justify daily driving a hour one way in that hog😂 I’m subscribed now so I better keep seeing the car on my TH-cam fyp!!!

Legit ever since 2013 when they first came out, and seeing all the TH-camrs back then like TJ hunt, and Chris Borges, Devin Niemela is what helped form my love for these cars. @@n88atee it’s funny you ask that because I was considering dropping the lower oil pan again to check for RTV when I hit around 25k miles or so. I had it cleaned at 10k so I’m wondering if after you clean it if you will have any issues again. If I decide to do that, I will 100% make sure to upload a video covering it.
hey! I recently have fallen in love the GR86, and plan to get one in the future! however a friend of mine argues with me that you can't tune or mess with the engine at all, due to the fact it is a Subaru engine. He claims if I want more performance either buy a different car or engine swap. To me that feels harsh. However I personally haven't done enough research to counter his claims. Would you or anyone else say that this car's engine is actually upgradable? He claims once you start messing with the engine, that's when it'll explode. Love the content man! keep it up!!
Awesome to hear about your new love for the 86, it’s a absolutely wonderful car. The new Gen 2 is levels above the previous generation especially in the motor department. The new 2.4 has been putting out some solid numbers with turbo chargers on them. Some dude makes around 600 whp on the stock motor. So I wouldn’t be to worried about not making a ton of power, cause at the end of the day that’s not what these cars are really designed for anyways. If you do decide to purchase one of these GR86/BRZ then I would advise cleaning out the oil pickup tube. I did it on mine and it 100% needed it otherwise something bad could have happened to the motor. Thanks for watching the video, hope you enjoyed 👏💙

Check to see if you have flat foot shifting through the tuner!
Wassup Kyle, there actually is Flat foot shifting as a feature on this tune. To be honest I’m alittle scared to try it out considering I’m still on stock clutch, but Boosted Performance Told me I should Send it and see how it feels 😅 I got a video releasing soon, covering more on the tune and it’s features. Yes sir, for sure could feel an improvement in the throttle response as soon as I got the tune thrown onto the car. Would love to some day get a turbo installed onto the car. I plan on keeping this thing for ever so I have no rush to do it honestly.

No dont kill your beautiful car(engine) with a turbo please. And a turbo is not helping with throttle response or you need one that spins all the time and they are expensive.

So I should get the Ecutek 1st? All I’m trying to get tuned on mine at the moment is the rev match feature.
Wassup homie, so I don’t want to tell you any wrong information cause I’m still pretty new to all this tuning stuff. From what I know, I’m think sure you’ll need a ecutek kit, and a license first to be able to throw any sort of new tune on your car. The auto rev match works pretty well on this tune, it’s more of a auto blip for when you clutch in and break it will shoot the rpm’s up so you can switch it into the other gear. Would these kind of tunes do the same effect for my automatic gr86?
Yeah you should have the same effect on your Auto GR86. Certain aspects of it may work alittle different then the 6spd manual like the pops or the auto blip rev match but you should still be able to use all these different features still. I hope this could answer your question, if it didn’t I would just message Boosted Performance and tell them you want something similar to what I have on my car but just for an auto instead of a manual. Wassup homie, honestly boosted performance keeps it pretty conservative with their tunes. You of course can have them add on the burble maps they sell, which can also be adjusted for how aggressive they are. So realistically there isn’t much you need to worry about when running a tune like this. Hope this could help you out, I appreciate you checking out the video 👏💙

Wassup homie, so considering this was my first time ever trying to get the car tuned I needed to purchase everything. There is different options or “add on’s” you can have as well that Boosted Performance does. I have pretty much everything they sell besides for an E85 map and their flex fuel kit. I'm curious as to whether or not you can bounce off the rev limiter instead of having the fuel cut off suddenly with a tune? The cold start alone makes this worth it

I saw a video of someone tuning the rev limiter to kick in a bit higher and only drop a minimum rpm so that it's more of a bounce and less of a cut in power.

What’s up dude! My apologies about that, I should have made it alittle more clear. It’s the GR86/BRZ Ecutek N/A E Tune. That’s the one I purchased for my 86.
If it’s your first time buying a tune you’ll need a license and ecutek kit. If you just email or message boosted performance on Instagram and tell them you want something similar to what I have on my car they should be able to get you sorted with what you need. Did u get the flash kit+ license or just the flash kit?

Isn't it annoying to clean up the white colored wheels regularly? I love your color choice but I am concern about maintanence.
Haha yeah no doubt it is… however at the same time it’s worth it to me because they just look so good. You can ceramic coat them to help prevent brake dust from making them that dirty and makes it easier to clean as well. Thanks for watching the video dude 👏💙

Did you experience any issues when using your mobile device? Wonder how safe that would be versus a laptop.
@@OverDominant not a single issue, I won’t lie I’ve never tuned my own vehicle before so I was abit nervous going into this. However you are required to do an initial check before you can thrown the new tune on your car to ensure the mobile device you are using is able to run the software to tune the car. So at the end of the day, I would say there really isn’t much you should be worried about 💪

Does this tune only work for the manual transmission 86?
Wassup homie, so this is my first experience tuning my own car so I’m not super well informed when it comes to stuff like this. I’m pretty sure you are able to run this exact tune even if you have a auto instead of a manual. You would just need to let Boosted Performance now that and all the mods that you have done before they send you out the first revision tune. Can you have multiple tunes activated at once?
I’m a bit confused as to what you mean? Do you mean like multiple maps on a tune?
@@Justinackerman_ yes, for example like launch control, cold start delete and auto rev.
@@sfGiantsboi03 yes those are actually all features you can have Boosted Performance enable for you. Those are all enabled on my car, and you can even put certain things like the auto rev match is different maps in case you don’t feel like using it.

Dude I saw that, sounds and looks insane. I’m pretty sure they said on around only 8psi they made around 300hp. I would say that’s some pretty decent numbers for this car, and it’s just the beginning as well. Thanks for checking out my video fam 👏💙

Is the tune worth getting if you have an automatic?
What’s up fam, so I’m not exactly to sure on how it would work with an auto car but from the experience I’ve had with the tune so far on mine, I would say it is 100% worth getting. There’s so many awesome features from this tune, and I actually use them all the time now that I have the ability too. I appreciate you watching the video fam 👏💙

What’s up fam. They car is tuned by Boosted Performance, and I am using their stage 2 NA kit they sell on their site. Includes so much stuff like the ecutek kit, and the tune and all the features it provides. Absolutely love how the car feels now, couldn’t be happier. Thanks for watching the video fam 👏💙
What's wheel and tire specs
Hey there! The wheels are 18x9.5+38 and the tires are 245/35/18. In order to run these specs you will need aftermarket suspension. I went with BC Coilover’s for mine. I hope this could help answer your question! Thanks for watching 🤝💙

Wassup Bryce, awesome to hear your thinking about getting your car tuned. I’ve been wanting to do the same to my 86 since I threw these UEL headers on and I’m so happy to of finally been able to throw a tune onto the car. In regards to the mods, I’ll be completely honest with you. I don’t have any special job tbh I do detailing and valeting cars at a local Lexus dealership, and I’m still in college. I’m fortunate enough to be able to still live with my parents which prevents me from having to pay rent for a place every month. I essentially only pay for gas, and insurance and food ect… Eventually when I save enough up I’ll end up purchasing something I’ve been wanting for the car. Sometimes it may take a while but, I feel it’s totally worth it. Just like this tune was for the car. Thanks for watching the video fam, I really appreciate it 👏💙
Hey man, i was thinking of getting my car straight piped but i don't have the money to get like headers and all of that jazz lol but i was just gonna go stock headers and just a pipe all the way back and also for the carbon filter will that void the warranty? ik you canceled yours but do you still think it would void it? i also love the vids man keep it up!@@Justinackerman_
@@brycepersell4100 Wassup man, so I feel that it would still feel sound good even if you had the stock headers and you went the straight pipe route. That is essentially what the AWE Track is but with a little resonator. If I was in your scenario I would just have the resonator cut off and buy a cheap Axleback that way it will still have a decent tone.
@@brycepersell4100 what do you mean by the carbon, are you referring to like all the carbon fiber pieces I have on the car? If so, then no cosmetic changes you make will void your warranty besides going wide-body or something crazy like that.
@@brycepersell4100 Yeah the tune and the catless headers would have voided the warranty if I wanted to take the car into service at Toyota, so I canceled it before I technically voided it so i could get my money back for it. Wassup fam, so the tune is actually provided with auto blip rev matching. It’s an option that you can have then enabled for you if you wish. Anyways I’m regards to the tune, I always want to be honest with you guys whenever It comes to stuff I install onto my car. I was blessed enough to get a bit of a discount on this tune because I was able to show it off to you all and explain some of the features and what not. I got their top of the line package which includes everything you would possible need or what from them. The only thing I didn’t include was their E85 maps and Flex fuel kit they sell. The value for the tune package I covered in this video total would be $1200 give or take. That’s for a full Ecutek Kit and license, the tune, burble map, and extra cold start features and what not that I also had them add.
If your curious and maybe interested in potentially getting this exact tune package for you car, just let them know about the tune covered in my video and they should be able to better assist you with everything on it. @mattpapa03 I’ve heard a lot of great things about JDL and tomei in regards to their header setups they make for these car. I would have gone that route as well, but I was able to get a great deal on my PLM ones.
how much was the tune
So it sort of depends on what you want. They provide a lot of extra features that you can purchase. If it’s your first time tuning your car you’ll need a license a ecutek kit and the tune. If you message boosted performance and tell them you want something similar to what I have in my video they should get you sorted with what you need. Hope this could help you out. My warranty actually would of been voided a while ago 😅 right when I dropped the oil pan to check for RTV that technically was the first way I could voided it. Then the catless headers, and now the tune. Thankfully I knew I was gonna do all the mods to the car eventually, so when I felt the time has come to start putting these parts on. I actually cancelled the warranty myself, and got some money back on it actually. Thanks for watching the video fam 👏💙

Yeah considering I paid for a platinum warranty and it had only been not even a year out of the 7 years I was able to get money back in exchange for the cancellation of it. Of course it wasn’t as much as I paid, but it was nice getting some of that money back though 💪

Wassup homie, I’m alittle confused as to what you mean by that. If anything how I was driving the car before with the mods I had installed without a tune is far worse. Boosted Performance is a super reputable company, and they’ve been tuning vehicles for a while. They know their stuff when it comes to the 86/BRZ platform which is why I decided to purchase their tune for my 86. I can see certain aspects of the tune like the burble map not being the best for the engine, but that’s why they make separate maps or you can even get the tune without the burbles. I had them throw it on my tune so I can show off to all of you, and explain how it works.

2 things not only are you speeding and holding your phone while your driving but your also holding a camera. I enjoyed the video but the amount of things that could have went wrong are just baffling to me.
What up fam, I completely understand where you are coming from and I agree that it is horrible to be on your phone while driving. I actually pride myself, because I am always usually never on my phone while I’m the car. The only reason I had it out was to show you all the different features on the tune. When I had both the camera and phone in my hand for that short period of time I ensured to go even under the speed limit and tired to pay as much attention to the road as I could. If I ever need to do something like this again, I’ll try to come up with a better way of doing it. I appreciate your concern man, I’m not using any of what I said as an excuse cause like you said it’s terrible to use any sort of electronic device when your driving, but I tried to explain it the best I could.
