The first gens didn't get much tuned completely stock either but headers+tune gave a much more significant gain. Can't wait to see the 93/e85 results with headers installed. Let's shoot for 235, nice video!
its already throwing down 225-230 e85 with only catback a full fbo going by last gen standard you can look foward to extra 15-20hp so 240-50 whp is in reach it make sense really last gen fbo on e85 will max out at 200-10whp this should max out at 240-50.
@@patthonsirilim5739 Original commentator stated that 1st gens weren’t as optimized as current gen. Also, toybaru seem to have focused a lot on the current gen’s header design. Larger diameter and lighter. 235 sounds about right.
@@dvybby yup on FB a stock headers cat delete on e85 has got 236hp 192 trq. On dyno already. It does include greedy intake. It sounds quite loud... maybe cat delete is a little too loud for some folks.
Reasonable to expect 240+ is possible
My 2012 made 205whp with HKS EL header and E85 tune
2.0 FBO/E85 = ~205whp
2.4 FBO /E85 = ~ 245whp
Loved my car at that stage and 2600 pounds but high g turns blew 2 motors
@@RedC63AMGI had a ‘13 frs fbo and no tune unfortunately and I spun a bearing shortly after the recall, the rtv silicone clogged my oil pick up tube, I went and bought a 2019 86 trd this time trying to do it right, would you recommend a fuel pump upgrade and fuel injectors even though the fa has direct injection? My friend recommended me a tuner from counter space garage and recommended I buy a tune for fbo e85 and he can let me use his ecutek to flash my ecu

Suggetion: installing a new radio with a better sound system (im thinking of importing a jdm gr86 to the uk due to it selling out in 90 min but the stock radio may not reach uk regulations but at the same time with a new radio/sound system i would still like to keep the oem reverse camera)
I was thinking e85 was going to have alittle more of an effect with the high CR. Still it performed pretty good, can't wait for some more mods

Header was making most horse power difference on gt86 bolton mods wise I believe
Damn that exhaust sounds surprisingly good! Seems likely to crack 230 whp with a charcoal filter delete and a K&N.
K&N drop in doesn’t affect anything from my experience. The charcoal removal however does.

I’m willing to bet with headers & an intake you could crack the 230 mark ! Possibly on 91 also. Just the thought of having an 86 with just fbo and a custom tune pushing nearly 230whp /!: almost 200 wtq. Wow oh wow what a fun car that will be on the street. Solid, reliable, controllable and responsive all on a car that’s about 2800lbs! sign me up 😤😤
Do a complete fuel system from back to front.
I'm surprised that E85 initially doesn't add as much power as it did on the FA20. Hopefully, an FA24 spec header will solve that. Great result regardless. FBO K24A2s swaps are making right around the same power with a lot more effort from the owner.
They are also port injection engines vs direct injection - apples and oranges really
I am thinking the tuners probably need more time to optimize it for E85. No way is an optimized tune only adding like 8 hp.
Chemically speaking, you can get about 8% more energy from a given amount of oxygen with E85. That would have put the car at nearly 240 whp if applied to the 221 whp 91 tune.
@@TheFK8Life Not hardly. Both are 2.4L 4 Cylinders. Both have port injection. The FA24 just has direct injection as well.
@@MachiavelliPWNS could be that it needs upgraded fuel pump + injectors to take full advantage of E85.

221 is good for 91. The base tune that some boost kits came out for the 1st gen were limited to that and felt really quick! I wonder what headers will do with this on high octane gas

Also who says "ekutek" instead of e c u tek. ? Maybe i'm the odd one out.
Makes sense that not a ton of power could be made if they tuned it to the max and let knock sensors dial it back.
Holy crap that sound, how you got your GR86 to have the gurgl sounds? Also I always thought E85 was bad for a regular engine, I am very confused.
If its not tuned for it, of course it is. Stock ECM Parameters aren't capable of delivering the volume of fuel necessary to run E85 at Stochio.

if you can get 230 with a header, that is just perfect for canyon and street power, fast enough on the most track to be super fun too.
Yep that’s roughly what I’m sitting at in my 2019 Civic Si with exhaust and stage 1 tsp tune. It really is perfect for a daily driver with occasional spirited driving. Also can still hurt some feelings in the straights. 230 whp in a 2800 pound car is a lot quicker than most people think
@@TheBeebop420 yeah! power/weight is what matters. On paper it'll be roughly equivalent to the previous gen WRX, which is what I have. It's just enough to feel quick. Though honestly I'd love to make a bit more. I've been eyeing the Z and supra for my next upgrade, but with availability what it is I'm seriously considering getting a gr86 and adding a turbo/supercharger. Looking forward to seeing what people manage to do with these.
@@emissarygw2264 Just turbo it. But make sure you use forged internals. Build it properly. Built Subaru engines are actually very good. It's when people don't have built engines, and then just strap on a turbo or up the boost that they then get blown motors etc and start blaming Subaru for being unreliable lol. Do it once and do it properly. It won't be cheap though, but honestly worth it and better than trying to chase minor gains from NA. I have gen 2 on the way, and 100% will turbo it, but it's long term goal. Won't turbo it anytime soon, prob 5 years away. If this is a car you want to keep long term, and you want it to be a unique car etc, then this is the way to go. Honestly, legit thinking of putting an EJ in eventually also, since EJ is way better than FA for mods. That is backup scenario, incase the FA is just too expensive to work with, we'll see. If you want the easy option, just go with the Z or Supra. BRZ/86 path will be lots of work.

Better if you use e30 blend, actually better performance than just 91, but better fuel economy than full e85.

Did the na fa24 cheapen out on the rods? I know the boosted fa24s can handle a mighty amount of power with boost and the DI only is the limit for those guys. The BRZ/Toyota guys have port and DI but the toilet paper transmission is probably going to be your limiting factor.
The FA24 doesn't have the offset rod design like the previous gen so I'm hoping it is able to hold more power as well.

I hear too much controversy with open flash and ecutek, my friend sent me some tuners that use ecutek and another friend says to go oft and I’m leaning towards oft because I don’t want to spend close to $800 on a tune and a license through ecutek

Delicious Tuning did a dyno tune on 91 octane (completely stock), and they were able to get 226.1whp.
Wonder how much more they can get on e85 + FBO
There's also something our shop likes to call, the "engine lottery", where some engines just hit higher numbers than others even on the same Dyno. On the first gens we've seen as high as 197whp and as low as 175whp.

Did he mod anything for the e85/flex Fuel......like better injectors, fuel pump, stronger fuel lines or even a flex Fuel sensor???

@@just.a.simplejoethe pump and dual injection are up to the task in this platform just like the previous gen. I ran E85 exclusively for 5 years with zero fuel system changes or a flex sensor. No problems at all. Lots of people do E85 on these things with only a tune. It’s not like other platforms that require injectors and pump.
The EU version delivers 235 stock, I thought the US will get the same lol...

So does the tuner that helped you have his own ecutek or did you buy the ecutek and just gave it to him so he can tune because there’s other tuners who sell the ecutek with there tune and they’ve said only they can tune it and no one else can?
@Boosted Performance Tuning okay because delicious tunning is selling it but only with there tune which I thought the point of buying ecutek was to tune it yourself or take it to a reliable tuner
@@Snagz86 it isn't locked per tuner. Buying an Ecutek license allows you to flash the tune into the car, which stays with the car. But you need a tuner key to make changes to the file. It might be possible for you to make your own changes if Delicious is offering the Ecutek tuner key along with the license.

In that case you are wrong...!! Its a tuner car. This is what it was made for. Dont like mods, get a camry.
FYI most buyers don't tune their sportscars. Personally I'd have no problem getting a tried turbo for these at some point if it offers significant gains. The ROI isn't there with relatively low gains like this for me.
@@milesfathi IDK what kind of sports car people you hang out with, but I have owned a pretty wide variety. Mustang, corvette, mazdaspeed 3, focus st, SRT4, GTI, cayman, Q60, M3, etc. Every online community, car meet or random guy I run into at a gas station is tuned. Even my wifes mustang and SHO taurus have a tune. The manufacturer tends to leave a lot on the table with little to no risk. The amount of power added doesnt sound like much. But you have to consider the starting point. We are looking at an almost 10% increase in power here with no physical parts. No boost or excessive stress on the internals. In all honesty the engine will be running safer against knock and cooler from the E85. This is a win.
@@milesfathi It's very common to tune this chassis FYI. Toyota even said the ECU was easy to crack on the previous generation upon launch.

I bet on e85 with intake and full exhaust you'll be looking at something better than 240 at the wheels, thats knocking on the door of 280 at the crank which puts the car in that magic land of 10 lbs/hp. Not a slow car no mo!

Best value is the 86/BRZ. I feel the Corolla is too much $$, you can find a Veloster for a better price. But the Supra is fast af with that B58 and you get a great cabin.
Also delicious tunning got the same results as you but was only on 91 and you got that on e85 🤨
Some engines can just perform better than others on the dyno. Also depends on Dyno as each one reads differently. That's why we recommend using the same dyno as you build and tune your car. That way you can have something consistent.
Different dynos read differently. Even the same dyno could read differently on a different day due to a multitude of different variables.
