Many thanks and much appreciation for the time you spent with the solenoid pack replacement videos. Your videos were clear and concise. I encountered a solenoid failure on my VW Routan and was able to follow and understand the process through your videos. Note: I also bought the e-service and repair manuals, but I would have struggled if I only had them to depend on for the necessary information. Funny note: I bought a [cheap] small clicker torque wrench to measure the necessary torque for the bolts. It seemed to work for the solenoid pack bolts, but when I went to torque the valve body to the transmission, I felt that something was wrong. I took the wrench to the vice and it would not click, even on 0 inch lbs. Ended up using manual torque method. I tested one of the bolts when I removed it to get an idea how much they were torqued. All is working well. Hope it lasts (with the manual torqueing of the valve body bolts).

Picked up a 2012 Caravan for $400 because transmission shop said it needed a whole new tranny ($3800).
Scrap price was $200 so I gave them $400.
$145 solenoid pack and these 2 videos later and it's my wife's daily driver.
Best repair videos I've ever used.
    Thank you.

      What systems were you having?

    • @randywharton6291
      @randywharton6291 ปีที่แล้ว

@@angryw4nderer The main symptom is the transmission gets stuck in 2nd gear. It won't shift down to 1st when you stop; it won't shift up either. I found that the problem will usually clear by 1) stop the car, put it in park, and turn off the engine, 2) Start the car, put it in reverse, and back up a few feet, 3) shift back to drive, and it usually works ok then. Now this has only happened maybe 4 times since I bought the car in 2010, but it's happened twice in the last 2-3 months. My code reader tells me that Solenoid "D" is defective. Seems that "D" is just one of the solenoids in the solenoid pack, and replacing the whole pack is what's needed. I've not had the problem a month or so now, so I'm holding my breath that it will be ok, but if it starts to become a real issue, then I'll be replacing the solenoid pack.

Thanks for the videos. I have replaced both the valve body and solenoid pack on my 2015 Caravan (the DC solenoid was bad). However, once I got it back together, the gear shifter would not move at all. I pushed the release just above the gear shifter and it would then move, although it was hard to do so. According to the indicator on the dash, I was able to get it to move from park to reverse to neutral, and back to park again. However, when the gear shifter was all the way at the bottom where drive should be, the indicator on the dash said that the transmission was in neutral. Therefore, it seems that the gear shifter and the transmission range sensor are no longer in sync.
When I re-watched your video, I noticed that the position that you moved the range sensor to when you reinstalled it was different from the position that I recalled my range sensor to be in, so I took the valve body cover off again to check out the range sensor. However, I can't get it to move to the position that you put yours in (presumably because yours was not connected to the transmission cable). I didn't disconnect or move the cable on top of the transmission, so I don't think that would be the problem.
So, my question is: does the position that you moved your trans range sensor to correspond to park? (Mine is currently in the farthest slot to the right, and it looked like you moved yours two places to the left from that farthest-right slot.) If I am supposed to move my range sensor two places to the left, would I need to disconnect the cable on top of the trans in order to do so?
Thanks for your help. It is very much appreciated.

David - do a quick video about the fill. You guys use a tool, but I use one of those giant 3 foot white plastic zip ties as a dipstick since the pink fluid shows up against it, and the teeth hold the fluid, and I just use “fully hot, in neutral, 2” on the stick”.

I've found out that if you lightly mark the bolt heads (when you are reinstalling ) ,with a white paint like you use for white wall tires , this will eliminate the possibility of missing on tightening one of the bolts. I just dab them with a white dot after torquing the bolts . When you have 20 bolts to torque, sometimes you could miss one, and that would be catastrophic. Just a suggestion.

Codes i was getting was. P083b, p0863, p,0733, P0734, and P0729. I am by no means a a novice. Changed out the trans fluid, filter, trans oil pressure switch, and I went ahead and changed out the solenoid. Did the quick learn with my scan tool. None of the codes came back. However, whenever I drive it feels as if the transmission won’t go in to second gear or any other gears besides the first.

Here is the elephant in the room:This transmission was designed for a K car! Over the years it has been used in in vans and cars that have grown i weight and power with very little improvement, The same basic design was made for 100 to 150 HP and under 3000 pounds. Heat is the enemy and the only tangible change the average owner can help. Heavy duty cooling radiator plus a towing trans cooler will help. Same with the over stressed brakes (over loaded with little or no improvement.

    Thanks for the best videos!
    Quick question,
Any special steps to replace the solenoid if the white connector breaks?
And since we are already there, should I also replace the fluid pressure sensor?
    Once again,
    Thanks!

Just for other people who come across this, I'm working on a customer's Van and it too was the DC Solenoid (Pins 10-20)
Mine came back with 5.5Ohms resistance.
    I had Error codes:
    P076A - Powertrain
P2807 Powertrain Pressure Control Solenoid G

Motor city mechanic Super Great instructional info especially with the tips on how not to damage the shaft pin while removing the solenoid with mounting plate. I might have got a bad solenoid block because the car feels like its barely catching the gears. Put it in manual mode and indicates 4th and 5th gear but it don't engage could I have torqued it wrong or bad solrnoid pack? Please some one respond ASAP.

Hi, that's a great tutorial. What are the specs of the o-rings that are recommended to exchange? ...and one other piece that you pointed to? I'd appreciate some link for purchase. Best regards, Rafal

Would a trans solenoid cause 2007 chyr pacifica to basically lockup motor when put in drive. Rev is fine. Motor runs great in idle. Thanks for any input. You are a great teacher.

Yes, the little solenoid in the video, with the troublesome white connector, located above the solenoid pack which this video was showing how to replace (at least on the Routan/Town and Country/Caravan. Hello, just did a trans swap and solenoid pack, and am now not getting crank. I was wonding if it matters on the range sensor if it is in a certain position? I moved the selector all the way forward to park, and bolted the detent down. Pin slid all the way to the right in the slot. Thank you!

Hey I recently changed my pack, the van runs but can’t seem to get it to move when I put it in gear. What could be my problem?
