I said it before and I'll say it again, Rick Graham's solo at the end is the best guitar solo I've ever heard. The story he tells with it is awe inspiring. Fantastic!
Do young people nowadays understand the amount of time and dedication it takes to even have a chance of being able to compose and perform on this level? Excellent musicianship.
dude of course, i love these guys and their old stuff is so good too. i love the metal but also the more recent stuff. i try to make my own music sound like this and it does take time and a lot of focus and is hard not to get board after hours of recording.
Easily your guys' best work I must say. This song will never get old no matter how much I listen to it. Has the perfect amount of heaviness, mixed with an awesome melodic side to things. Sweet use of power chords, I just love it all. Hope you fellas continue on to make more amazing music like this song. Its a good fit for you guys.
geoff brown It's not, if you read the description of their video the whole album has that tool singing. I just hope they release an instrumental version also... depressing.
I'll always remember the day this came out, on the last day of 2013 for me. Set a big tone for the whole year to come, and I'm still here listening almost two later. Thanks for your work Polyphia.
Rick Graham is so relaxed when he plays. In a lot of guitar players, including myself, it's easy to to tense up when playing a tough lick or riff, but Rick just plays so effortlessly. I never get tired of watching him play.
Rick Graham's solo... I'm crying. How did this guy manage to evade my radar for so long? Can't believe I haven't heard of such an amazing guitarist, thank you for featuring him, I'm subscribing to his youtube channel.
My first comment to ever go on TH-cam... anybody who can appreciate technical precision, musical wisdom, and compositional talent should see this, the rich variety of styles coming together should help anyone from a Jazz enthusiast to a Metalhead absolutely fly away with this song. As a live sound and studio engineer, props to everyone playing, and my respects to Rick Graham
They've made technical mastery into this beautiful, listenable, musical thing. One of the best groups I've ever heard of. All the time I've wasted on the internet was to find this. Worth it.
Burnzy494959 I'm guessing because most people that listen to this genre or like, form of technical guitar playing like it on a minor scale and when it's played on a major scale it kinda loses it's brutality and just trashiness that metal fans have grown to love. Although this is fantastically technical, and really quite brilliant, I don't prefer it because of the scale, I wanna listen to shit that makes me feel like killing people :D
Burnzy494959 yeah dude honestly, ive seen some pretty stupid comments on these guys, and i dont get it these guys are fucking awesome like im pretty sure these guys are younger than me, im only 21 and they were still waayyyyyyy better than me even when they were younger judging by some of the videos. i just dont understand how people are going to talk shit on some kids just because they dont conform exactly to your standard for instrumental prog rock.
Cody Fraker No, the guitarist from Intervals is Aaron Marshall. Rick Graham one of the bigger fusion names you'll find here on yt. He is a real beast of a guitarist as well.
I salute this drummer, he might not be going all out and doing anything special, but that's the point, he isn't playing to impress, hes playing to let the other members shine and doing so flawlessly.
Cant believe no one secured the mic cord on the cymbal stand.... you guys being so detail oriented in your note/chord and time sig selections and all... Freaking Excellent And to Mr. Graham: I'd type something but...I'm speechless.

I love playthroughs of really technical songs because you get to see the focus on thier faces. Its something that reassures other musicians starting that its okay to mess up when writing and learning. To play these things perfect even the guys that wrote amazing pieces like this have to focus a lot more than it seems in the music videos and live shows, where they are puting on a show to keep people entertained.
You guys have a style of harmony melody and rhythm that is SO unique, but yet SO noticeable but NOT repetitive. You are all technically advanced as well as rooted with some great Musicality. I will be buying your second album also. Sorry I couldn't donate to help make the studio possible.
***** Rick Graham's solo sound a lot more expressive and organic, the way he phrases, the way he does vibrato, bends, slides, also his picking attack just sound a lot more expressive/dynamic and human-like. He has great timing. Rick also has a bit of organic rock-blues vibe in his playing. The Polyphia's guitarist are technically great, and play good melodies as well, but their playing sound mechanical, robotic and "sterile/flat" to me. IMO huge difference between them in terms of dynamic control, timing as well.
+Reiner Braun Precisely! this comment is on point. This is a perfect example on how to differentiate playing styles of course it would be FEEL over TECHNIQUE or how you make ascertain that being a guitarist is just not destroying the strings playing fast notes etc. Technically polyphia is good hands down but their playing style is just bland. i'm sure the playing style will grow/adopt soon.
+Josh Westfalll Hey whoa, these guys are amazing and very creative. I definitely wouldn't call them bland lol. Rick's solo was definitely the standout for me, but I would never call these guys bland. Pretty unique actually.
+NateMantle They're great musicians who are extremely creative, but people see young faces and fast fingers, and there you go! Automatically judged as mindless shredders... Quite sad.
This is the kind of music that makes me strive to become a better guitar player. technically and in the writing department as well. I love the melodic, light-hearted, majory phrasing that you guys use. I started writing riffs in that vein and its so awesome to see that style gaining popularity.
