Impassion and Champagne were the songs that got me into Polyphia when I stumbled across them back around late 2014. I love the melodic nature of Polyphia that they've kept through all of their various evolutions over the years and the drastically different styles they've had with each album. It's astonishing how they can change so much and still have that same feel to them that makes them so unique to me. I know some people miss when they made music in this style like from Muse and Renaissance, and I can see why. But while I agree that they had a special sound back then, I also appreciate their new music and love it equally if not more depending on the song and I think it's for the best that they branched out to explore their sound and create new music that can broaden the horizons of listeners they already have as well as attract new listeners. I think it's enough that we have the music they created back then in this style, and every other iteration they've created along the way. It would probably become boring after a while if all they ever released were songs that sounded exactly like just another extension of Muse or Renaissance. I hope Polyphia continues to explore their own sound and pave out more and more unique soundscapes for us to appreciate in the future, they have yet to ever truly disappoint me. Love you Polyphia.

+SadisticKillerXx Because it's a seemingly completely random composition without any musical direction, made even more painstakingly clear by the complete lack of articulation in the playing (sure there are plenty of vibratos and bends here but they come across as a poor imitation rather than something genuine). Also the tone is as neutral and "artificial" as it gets. So yes, pretty much just random pitches and grooves, much like an alarm clock gone haywire. For their age they have great technical ability, but they've seemingly missed the whole point of (GOOD) music, which is to tell something through an abstract yet tangible medium. I love "proggy" stuff, but there has to be SOME sort of order or clear intent behind it otherwise it's completely indistuingishable from what a random note generator could make, hence losing the most important aspect of it all, namely the musiciality. I remember this when I was in highschool. I was addicted to this song and this was the one that trained my shredding. Wish I still remember how to play the whole song.
I see a lot of comments about lack of structure. listen to their soloing! they are following chord progressions with some very well placed accidentals and believe it or not the emotion behind this song is very powerful. you would know that if any of you actually studied musical theory and polyrhythms. learn a little of accenting notes and actually how to use your modes and maybe you can make a statement about there structure but once you actually do. you'll see that there is structure in every last solo and chord progression. if there wasn't then the timing would be off and it truly would sound like a jumbled mess.
in my defence when i wrote this i had no idea what i was talking about and was talking a bunch of shit i had a valid point but no place mentioning things i knew nothing about. i did my research learnt some shit and you are correct there are no accidentals. there you go. thanks for making me realize i was full of shit. carry on lol
NeVerFoRs4Ken OMG, thank you. It's so rare and refreshing to see somebody actually own up to and apologize for making an inane, uneducated comment about music (or anything else for that matter). I applaud your efforts to enlighten yourself and set things right. Now, if only the rest of the Internet would follow your example, this might be a pleasant place to hang out for a change. :D
It was awesome to hear this song in Chicago!! First song I listened from you just when it came up and I thought I would never hear it live. Huge work, you are awesome.
this is one of the most amazing things ive ever heard, and i wish there were lyrics but it'd have to be incredible because i wouldn't want it to ruin the pure bliss of these instrumentals
I feel like they have great grasp on melody. Recurring themes, emotional builds in their solos, with solid rhythmic ideas (pretty sure they we're thinking of a vocalist taking the lead when it comes to melody in several parts). The dude with the blue guitar comes in bluesy (which, I'm sure you'd agree, is highly emotional/melodic field of music) at the right spots. It's their phrasing of seemingly simple melodic ideas that sounds mature as hell. 3/10 is lowballing them, BIG time.
The only thing that I'd say is that I'd like more melodic solos, I love those sweeps and picking, but there's a moment that I want it to be totally melodic, but it isn't a 3 out of 10 for me . . .for me it's an 8, because of what I just said (it's only my opinion, or maybe my taste) and the drums, where the snare is a bit lost. Greetings from URUGUAY!
I totally respect you're opinion, but as a fan of Polyphia I gotta say. If a playthrough vid of theirs gets over half a million views and nearly 10k likes, they're doing something right xD.

You haven't heard polyrhythms until you've heard elvin jones or tony williams
The fuck are you talking about accidentals this song is in the key of A never goes out of it
in my defence when i wrote this i had no idea what i was talking about and was talking a bunch of shit i had a valid point but no place mentioning things i knew nothing about. i did my research learnt some shit and you are correct there are no accidentals. there you go. thanks for making me realize i was full of shit. carry on lol
it's soothing to my ears.. really having a good nap when topics in school is not interesting ..
Watching this after the Ego Death vid is crazy
Im more impressed with that area theyre in. it looks beautiful there
I think it's Dallas, Texas?
They're at the Winspear Opera House in downtown Dallas' arts district. Very cool area.
Its Dallas Texas they're a local band here. They're growing so fast.
It was awesome to hear this song in Chicago!! First song I listened from you just when it came up and I thought I would never hear it live. Huge work, you are awesome.
I like the colour of the bluish guitar
The bends at 4;10 WOW
4:10
this is one of the most amazing things ive ever heard, and i wish there were lyrics but it'd have to be incredible because i wouldn't want it to ruin the pure bliss of these instrumentals
Technical skill with little comprehension of melody. 3/10
Totally agree.
3/10 lol......idiot.
I like this more straight forward hardrock type sound more than the weird stuff they do these days. Unbelievably gifted.
Scott makes look so easy and chill
Damn I miss these days...
Screw feeling and emotion. Just gets in the way of good accurate playing.
lawl
Woooww what?
the best music has the best balance of feel/emotion and technicality
To this date from when this ep was released this solo is just beyond beautiful, brings tears to my eyes
I can't believe anybody would thumbs down this - there are just a lot of amazingly stupid people out there. And/or jealous people who can't play music period.
this is the thing. trash talk this band. saying that they must find their sound? what does that mean, this is their sound, youre hearing it with your ears. people are stupid, and thats the only constant we get in our lives. we can always count on there being atleast one fucking moron in the room. if you dont like this band then go and listen to something you like. im sure the diddnt sit and write this song and say ';;woah dude that one guy from youtube isnt gonn alike this, better change it'' lmfao
Incoming solo of epic proportion 3:12
Scottie's honestly been my favorite part of this band.
