The most incredible solo i've ever seen. It just has everything, it fits so perfectly, it's impressive, it has amazing feel, it gives goosebumps, and is just amazing. By far my favourite solo ever!
Come on, man. Don't say you'll never be able to play it. It takes some skill but it's not out of reach for even a casual player if you practice hard and effectively. Trust me, you can do it.
I wish you'd have reviewed your amp settings. Your tone is insane. We can learn the licks all day long but without this tone will sound like...nevermind. If you had an album out with this and similar songs leave the link if buy it right now. This is what made me love vinnie moore so much...his tone alone told stories and took you to another place in yourself like doing yoga and meditation or acid.... Seriously such a phenomenal sound here...
rick, you are an incredible guitarist, far far better than myself, i envy your ability, the only thing that frustrates me about this video is the fact that you just teach a Tablature method, what i mean is I would love to know why you choose the notes you do and if you consciously think about what they are in reference to the chords that you are playing over or if you just use your ears, also what your scale choices are? I want to reassure you that I am not complaining, just curious about your approach as I would love to play this way! thank you Matt
I can't even express awesomeness and the amount of goosebumps I got from this final solo of Envision. Learning all the solos of it already, just got to Ricks' one. Ough, my fingers got a lot of work ahead ^_^
How the hell do you remember all that???? Did you write the solo then play it or just go back and learn it? I can't even remember one of those runs much less all of them. I'm probably just getting old.
What do you call that technique when you do a strong "Power Pick" to one note for it to sound louder, he does it at 3:40 and i think he says the name at 3:43 "Pickking Hammer" maybe?????
***** Thanks i think i heard right, but i've always wondered, what is it called and how do you do that kind of LOUD first pick he did right before he hammered the second note? Sounds like if he's dragging the pick on the string a little bit before the note sounds.
rambache I know what you mean now, but I don't know exactly what's it's called if it even has a name, lol. I guess it's just a way to make a note sound more defined.
All it is is. Heavily picked note that he slides into, followed by an extremely light hammer on. There's no specific technique it's just a heavily accented down pick and a very gentle hammer on.
+rambache little late now but just in case. It's what some call a rake, you can think of it as a little sweep. He rakes/sweeps across the d string but mutes it with his left hand. He follows through with the movement to play the g string. The muted string in the middle accentuates the final note. ;)
Rick, do you use the FX II to play out live? Also, do you get a sense that you get a true valve feel from this unit without using a head or cab? Thanks and Regards, Patrick
Ordered my very own rg721 today. I've read a few reviews and most have only one complaint and its the pickups. Any recommendations on a replacement for them if I don't enjoy the sound of them
I don't play guitar and not familiar at all with the technicality behind music (notes, playing, etc.) But, is this tutorial easy to follow for experienced guitar players?
for some this is an easy way to learn. for me not being that good with my guitar playing (and ive been half assed playing for a few years now) its extremely difficult. but from my experience i can say its a lot easier once you are comfortable with the techniques used. :) hope that helps
haha ive played guitar for 6 years,to much experience, but for me is too hard yet, to play like this!! and ive played petruccis solos exactly and solos from others but the technic of mr graham is different pretty imposible xD hes the best!!
Cool patterns! Buckethead at 9:19. interworld new age innocents, he uses minor 9 patterns and chords on lot of songs.. Nice rick ,very pretty like to hear solo played without band? Thanks for lesson i dont have enough frets, i used too, damnit!
Awesome Hi Sir Rick, May i know what scales were being used in ENVISION and in what KEY? and if possible can u show us a short Video of your daily routine on how you practice everyday in a particular lick? Thx Sir ^^\m/
I'm listening to it in bed atm and from the shapes of the arpeggios he's using I assume that he's in A. It makes sense since a lot of Polyphia's songs are in A
Tried those JP picks for a bit, I really like the shape and size of them but they feel too slippery when starting to break a sweat. However, Andy Timmons uses Jazz III picks of the same size but made out of tortex instead of ultex which is supposed to be less slippery. I also favor the PG picks Ibanez makes.
can anyone whose watched this and learnt it be able to Tab it? Or possibly Rick if you've already tabbed it out mate? Really really keen for the tab :) Amazing Solo rick, i think my favourite solo to be honest :)
7 years later and still haven’t heard a better solo
The most incredible solo i've ever seen. It just has everything, it fits so perfectly, it's impressive, it has amazing feel, it gives goosebumps, and is just amazing. By far my favourite solo ever!
12:57 HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
+Greg Bradshaw he was referring to "Checking out your versions of the solo" because this is insanely ridiculous
+luigi1mario it's the Interwebz. Glad my parents sent me to school. hahah
LMAO
how is he so calm when he plays? His technique is so fluid it makes me want to cry...
10:33 for those who just want to learn the cool tapping lick. Thanks a ton for this, Rick! I'm getting a lot of ideas here!
Rick, yet again you just make me want to get off my butt pickup the guitar and practice to become better..... Thank you!.
Sick solo. I love that Ibanez, I got to try one out at the expo last week, amazing guitar, but you make it sound unreal!
Which model is it? :) It looks like the Ibanez rg721rw-cnf from here but the finish looks darker? cant tell if thats just the camera XD
Bradley Leadbitter it is
I know, I have one now XD
lucky bastard
Sam Bell cause it's not real. Until you practice it 1 million times ! 😆😁🤣😂😊😎
Dang Rick. Always amazed by your music. Thanks for sharing what you do.
Still the most fluent player I've ever seen. Second to none.
Some of the most incredible technique and composition I've ever seen. This is insane.
Every time i came back to this video it melts my mind hahaha, such a genius rick!!
Brilliant Rick! Thanks for sharing.
Such a beautiful tone and performance.
+Emulous Studio Reminds me of the good ol' days at Shrapnel.

i've been following you since 2006, i really miss a complete album from you mate ....
Thanks so much for shedding some insight into this fantastic solo. I will never be able to play it but it's fun to watch you demo it. Great job Rick !
Come on, man. Don't say you'll never be able to play it. It takes some skill but it's not out of reach for even a casual player if you practice hard and effectively. Trust me, you can do it.
thats some guthrie govan/ bumblefoot level control. so good
10 years now... damn!!! I was in high school when I came across this, times flies. Maybe now I can try to play some licks of this jajajaja
Man I love that tone
It's one thing to be an amazing guitarist. It's another to be an amazing guitarist and bear a ring. Props!
Still one of my favorite solos of all time
How the fuck are you not world famous?
every time i watch his videos i think the same thing.
MAN, THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
I wish you'd have reviewed your amp settings. Your tone is insane. We can learn the licks all day long but without this tone will sound like...nevermind. To me, this is the definition of shredding with emotion
Amazing Tone Rick.
Incredible Rick as always man !!!!!
that shape always reminds me of the woody woodpecker theme. grrrrrrrr I cannot do that arp w/o thinking of it.
So much feel!!

Rick lots of respect, that was awesome
Hey Rick all of these super melodic runs are awesome! Can you make a video on how to play and write licks like this ??
Beautiful
Its always crazy to me how pros make playing look so effortless.
Absolutely wonderful ...great solo ...nice job ...cheers Ludo:-)

Incredible guitar solo, you're talented!
On Learning This Solo Mode !
I can't even express awesomeness and the amount of goosebumps I got from this final solo of Envision. Learning all the solos of it already, just got to Ricks' one. Ough, my fingers got a lot of work ahead ^_^
Wow so much awesome knowledge in there!! Thanks a lot, superb and classy shred as always, I mean great music.
Your one of My New Guitar Hero's
Não conhecia a banda. Muito bom o solo.
Nice lick Rick. Is there any tableture for that lick ??!
Awesome tone and technique. There's any backing track of this?
great solo.. would you mind sharing some of your lead presets on axe2? that would be awesome!
Hi Rick. Are you going to be doing anymore Q & A videos?
Rick says "easy like that". I say "I'll just stick to playing the toaster I guess"
How is every comment not, "my mind is blown". This is amazing! I will learn this even if it takes a year!
How the hell do you remember all that???? Did you write the solo then play it or just go back and learn it? I can't even remember one of those runs much less all of them. I'm probably just getting old.
Didn't expect that reply xD
Thumb it up. Get it viral. Maybe we can get a petition going. gofundme.
5:02... Oh my god

You the man! Thanks for sharing:)
Forks and knives. That’s a heckin good solo.

Ordered my very own rg721 today. I've read a few reviews and most have only one complaint and its the pickups. Any recommendations on a replacement for them if I don't enjoy the sound of them
Rick, if that makes you happy, now I know how to play one of your solos ^_^
I don't play guitar and not familiar at all with the technicality behind music (notes, playing, etc.) But, is this tutorial easy to follow for experienced guitar players?

It is absolutely ridicously hard to play.
any chance to get just this segment of the polyphia song cut as a backing track? probably not right? doubt they'd license that for free...argh!
Thanks for the video
very nice!!!
Rick can you share the base or chord progression?
Good sound! What type of pickups used?
I know I'm WAY late to the party Rick but Thank YOU for sharing!!!
Rick how do you manage to remember all those notes? And majority of your other songs? Do you just play them constantly till its second nature?
Which equalization parameters that you use?
What model of distortion too?
HAHA and then you still say, "good luck" after the arpeggios! lol
Amazing solo, Rick! There are a bunch of stuff I can learn from this!
damn that was crazy. really man wow, got goose bumps and all aha
Nice one Rick. Cheer's fella. :)
You got a great tone on that ibanez.
Cool patterns! Buckethead at 9:19. interworld new age innocents, he uses minor 9 patterns and chords on lot of
songs.. Nice rick ,very pretty like to hear solo played without band? Thanks for lesson i dont have enough frets, i used too, damnit!
Can you share the chord pattern with us? That would be awesome.
How can I find you on facebook Rick?
name of the pickups?
Awesome Hi Sir Rick, May i know what scales were being used in ENVISION and in what KEY? and if possible can u show us a short Video of your daily routine on how you practice everyday in a particular lick? Thx Sir ^^\m/

Just checked it on my keyboard, you're right it's in Bm
awesome thx for replying guys, so if its in Bm they're using Aeolian right?
cool thx fellas ^^\m/
"now...here's the tricky bit...." Ahhh Rick ;-)
Let me ask you something.... why you use more this ibanez than your suhr guitar? Its just a preference or something bigger like a endorsement?
Hey Rick! What strings are you using on that guitar? They seem comfortable =)
GREAT Vid and Solo! ;]
Polyphia are punks. Rick Graham is a badass.
yeah!!!
Is he using mainly D MAJOR scales here????
it's all on the d major scale, no accidentals
dude do you use the small jazz 3 or the xl ones awesome work love your economy picking part 1 :D
give the JP signatures a try, in between a small and XL size wise and a bit thicker. they cost about the same too. trust me, no turning back.
Thanks pal I'll look into them :D
nice playing you have there as well mate
Tried those JP picks for a bit, I really like the shape and size of them but they feel too slippery when starting to break a sweat. However, Andy Timmons uses Jazz III picks of the same size but made out of tortex instead of ultex which is supposed to be less slippery. I also favor the PG picks Ibanez makes.
JakeF1243 Trust me jake jazz iii stiffo = win
OH・・・ OH・・・ JESUS・・・ おぉ 神よ。GREAT!!グレイト!!
what guitar model are u using in this video?
+Nightwalkers looks like an Ibanez RG721RW
Nightwalkers did you watch the video
Can you do a lesson on your muting technique?
What choyce guitar is that!
can anyone whose watched this and learnt it be able to Tab it? Or possibly Rick if you've already tabbed it out mate? Really really keen for the tab :)
Amazing Solo rick, i think my favourite solo to be honest :)
TAB ????
wow, when your ears push through and ignore the bad mixing just to hear that amazing solo. For fuck sake, he is amazing.
