    This is the BEST bowfishing light video I have seen. Thank you for taking the Time to make it happen. JFYI I use a 7 fixture 50watt extra warm white 2700/3000 Kelvin DC chip on rig. My shooting partner has a 5 fixture 400watt HPS system. We have the exact same lux/lumen readings at 7-15 feet from the boat at water level. Plus my LED DC system has better coverage over a a larger area.

      The bulb he uses has a lot to do with lumens. I have not seen a led with a 50,000 lumen value.

    We use yellow glass tint to help cut down reflection

    • @DustinApple
      @DustinApple  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you mean to minimize the light reflecting off of the water. Yes by warming up the color of light it will increase the amount light that penetrates dirty water. White light will reflect off of the dirt particles but a yellowish light will reflect much less off of these particles and the effect equals better overall performance.

    have you ever tried adding the yellow headlight tent to LED lights that are the bright white color. i added it to mine and they seem to be close to the sodium color/yellow lights. it pretty cheap to do. it would be good to hear someelses opinion and thoughts on this.

    • @DustinApple
      @DustinApple  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir I have. Ebay sells 2 yellow colors and I tried the lighter of the 2. At the time I was running 20 of the square 48w lights. For me adding it to every light was to much. But after I peeled it off of every other light it was pretty damn good. I rolled like that for 2 seasons on my 1660 fan boat.

    Are you able to get these lights anymore? If not what lights would you recommend at this time? Ran hps on old boat and loved the color but thought might try something new if possible to be cheaper and less load on genny.

    • @DustinApple
      @DustinApple  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't think you can get them anymore. I'd look at ArrowLED or contact Victor Lee Mcnew with 5star LED. Both are great brands.

    I see your point on blowing out light with hps lights. The loud generator is not always true.
    I run 6 400 watt HPS and still run quiet with an inverter generator and 2 power max converters. Still as quiet as a led boat.
    I fish the potomac river and run by MANY led boats. The light ring around the bow of the boat for fishing is not impressive compared to my HPS lights. Your video is very healthy in facts but not so much on HPS lights. Lumen value has a lot to do with penetration power.
    I have fished off both led and hps boats. With all due respect, it comes down to personal opinion.

    • @DustinApple
      @DustinApple  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bernie Hurt yes sir. like I said I'm not big on hps. with 2400w light set up and converters chances are you need 3800w to run it all at the same time. that's not efficient. and as a genny shouldn't be ran over 60% of capacity you would need the biggest Honda inverter made. imo there's just no need waste so much power, weight, and gas. most bowfishermen don't have a big safe boat that can spare so much weight of converters, ballasts, caps, and a bigger genny. So I try to recommend the simplest, most efficient set up to simplify people's lives. hopefully it's a little lighter and can save them some weight and money. in the end it all comes down to personal preference. There is no denying the power of hps. but there is also no denying their consumption either.

      @drifterssc99ify 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dustin Apple
      You are correct. I run 1 3100 for my lights and a 2400 for converters. I do not always run the converters, I can get a good 6 hours out of my troller batteries.
      you do have me on the weight deal. however, the new digital ballast compared weight to megnetics are 75% lighter. 26-31 lbs magnetic to an 7 lbs digital.
      I can use the ballet weight in the stern of the boat to balance the bow weight of fishers. and boat size does make a difference.
      I agree with your video, it is awesome education for people who are new or learning about the lights on a rig. not being disrespectful, by no means.
      PS I marathoned your videos for the boat build. where is episode 30??????? keep up the good work.

      let's be real, it's a brotherhood. I hate the drama the follows bowfishing. I keep a grill on my boat just to say hell with it let's relax and then we can fish. you ever get up this way I'll give you a ride on an hps boat.

    I have been looking hard at LED bars but I know the combo/spot beam isn't ideal for bowfishing unless you can get it high enough out of the water. I did purchase some amber covers for my truck bar and it does work for the color but filters out a good chunk of light. The Seelite true warm LED bars look awesome but very expensive to cover the boat with.
    seelite.myshopify.com/collections/bowfishing/products/40-truewarm-led-bar
    Has anyone had experience with Amber LED bars? I am tempted to try one since you can switch between a cooler white for clear water or switch to Amber for cloudy water. It looks like you can even strobe them for emergencies or to party. I do have a few concerns, wondering if they aren't as bright as other LED options or if the Amber color of these emergency vehicle style bars isn't the ideal color temp? It looks like Customfitz will allow you to choose spot, flood or combo beams in a 9V config. I'd like to set that up with a 12/24V system but also have a mount option for my 2000w Generac Inverger to charge them if the fishing is good and want to go all night. Any suggestions or experience?

      I haven't seen what Chad is selling for a while but all the light bars ive seen are DC12/24v. To charge batteries you would need a converter not a inverter. it is possible but in my experience its a loosing battle. all my LED's are 110v now. I can run more of them and no batteries or converter to deal with. I do believe that Amber colored lightbars would be great but I just wish they were offered in 110v. I guess a guy could mount a small inverter next to each bar to go battery free. good luck brother I'm sure you'll get where you need to be before spring.
