I'm setting up a 70 year old Bearcats recurve for bow fishing. Using an ams strap on bracket and ams bottle reel. Is there a way I can mount a rest or should I just shoot off the shelf? I'm brand new to bow fishing and don't know squat about it really
Keep it simple stupid..... stay on the shelf. Recurve with a bottle is the most inefficient setup you can attempt though. The drag on the arrow is great & the poundage required is greater. Make sure you adjust your nock for good arrow flight & take close shots.
@@DustinApple I'm setup now exactly how I said, and I'm nailing fish at 15 yards and up to 3ft deep so far. If it's not efficient I can't tell. Maybe I just got lucky hell I don't know
No. They make a genesis pro that's 30lbs that should work but the original version is only 18 lbs & not strong enough. You need 25-35# for 90% of bowfishing. For large fish 35-45 is common.
🤷♂️ no idea who you are, I don't tolerate negativity or bowfishing drama. No room for posers in my circle. I stay positive and share lots of good information. If you're blocked it's because you rub me the wrong way & I decided not to allow you access to my content any longer. Best thing I ever did was start blocking people. It's a healthy social media practice imo. Glad I could help with the Gnat.
I personally don't use them because they ■drag in the water & lessen penetration. ■increased arrow splash ■slow to untie/retie ■causes broken reels ■added expense to arrows ■more pieces to fail & break
You got me subbed in 30 seconds. Love the energy!
Welcome aboard!
Love the video very helpful! Looking to get my second setup in a couple weeks gonna try and build a nicer bow.
I'm new to bowfishing- this helped tremendously. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Hi friend ✋; I never shoot bow and cross bow at all in my life, I like to try bow fishing to the future, thank you for INFO👍👍.
thank you
Hey getting into bowfishing finally
What do you use for the target?
Great info, good video man 👍
Thank for shring bro
Why is it bad to use a release while bowfishing? And same with compound?
I also double up serving and tie a nock point vs using metal. Much lighter, quieter, faster, and less vibration.
tied nock points move & bowfishing is to hard on equipment to worry about a 5grain brass nock when youre shooting a 1600gr arrow.
@@DustinApple never had an issue with mine moving in 30years of bowfishinf, and hunting all kinds of critters with my longbow.
@@DustinApple have you tried using superglue on the nock points?
@@plsbanhackers9031 most contact glues are all the same, superglue, gorilla glue, AAE maxbond, quickdraw's glue...they all work good for nocks.
Question the fishing arrows do you trim them to draw length or you shoot them factory stock size
Factory length, don’t trim them

Would you go bowfishing with me. I'm just getting into it and I'm struggling
Is a genesis bow fishing bow enough lbs.(lb) to shoot a paddlefish/spoonbill?
No. They make a genesis pro that's 30lbs that should work but the original version is only 18 lbs & not strong enough. You need 25-35# for 90% of bowfishing. For large fish 35-45 is common.
Your gonna want a 50 to 60 pound draw weight
@@holtondecker426 negative ghostrider..... there's no reason to shoot over 40# for bowfishing. I shoot 32# for 90% of what I pursue.
@@DustinApple good to know I’m just getting into it and that’s what I’ve heard great video man🤙
@@holtondecker426you don't need weight like that....I've known many elk hunters that use 50lb bows. You don't need a diesel dually for a kayak either
Thanks for the the helpful info bud got the gnat tuned. But why u block me on Facebook lol

@@DustinApple where do I get a large block of foam like that
@@Jgriffin3232 locally guy sells them. They are 2nds from a manufacturing process.
What don't you like about safety slides?

■causes broken reels
■added expense to arrows

Get rid of the finger things. Set nock point 5/8" high, nock point overcand under arrow nock, shoot a full three fingers under, and wear a golf glove.
I've never heard so many incorrect statements on this platform..
