I'm still graceful for Algo to suggest Ray to me. Before i wasn't even that into classical music. I listened mainly to Metal stuff Like for example wintersun but also the Likes of animals as Leaders and Lot's of stuff in between until i also discovered These Epic Soundtrack Style pieces to weight train to. Got cards for two steps from hell, missed Out bc fml and that evening Algo gave Ray Chen to me. And that rabbit hole keeps on giving and giving. Few weeks later i know so much about techniques, difficulties and in General are much more able to appreciate and understand the difficulties of the Violin and classical music in General. Then there was a collab between Ray and twoset which was so wholesome and omg that was another rabbit hole. Kind regards :)
This is the fastest piece among the four seasons, the storm is truly giving the feel of summer that hot temperature, Fast breeze, movement of all living organisms due to the heat, fate of one farmer who fears for the survival of his livelihood. His worst fears come true: the violent summer storm destroys his crops. Hats off to the composer Vivaldi. 😻
Great reminder to "not be shy", I'm currently working on playing and phrasing more boldly and not too quiet/one-dimensional. Love listening to different interpretations and explanations of pieces as well, so once I'm practicing this I'll definitely come back to this video :)
Articulated beautifully. It’s not always easy to put it into words, particularly if you’re also trying to engage non-musicians. I could listen to you (speak and play!) all day.
When I listen to your sound, all the black roses that grow in the back of my mind bloom. Like all the unsolved mysteries of our lives are instantly filled with light.
I love how your able to dissect all the different layers in the piece in a way where we understand how the piece fits together. Your a true artist and teacher and your video makes me want to play this piece! Thanks for the inspiration ❤
I play mandolin and I wish there was someone like you giving tips for mandolin. That was brilliant. The same dynamics and phrasing can be used for both instruments, but I'd love it hear it on a plucked instrument. Thanks for sharing your vast experience and expertise! Brilliant! It also helps me hear this wonderful piece differently. Marvelous!
I learned so much here, I always try to play clean despite having the feeling that the music should be extrovert, especially that solo string crossing. Now I can let loose. Ray please do more of this, I have been on my own for 13 out of 15 years, just TH-cam and reading books. This kind of lesson I can't get anywhere else aside from hiring a teacher for which I have no budget. Please do the other 1st and 2nd movement next then Winter. Thanks!
Love those off-beat hemiolas towards the end! breaks up the monotonous beat, gives it a certain danciness- and very in character for a baroque piece with "do it how you like it" notation.
Hello! I play violon for 4 years, and this year I don't have violin teacher, so I hope you will do more of this kind of video, because it is Really helpful! Thank you so much!
The comparison to a rock piece, and approaching it as such, is apt. I always felt the L'Estate Presto gives a lot of "bang for buck". Most people, unlike in so much of classical music that is less accessible, can immediately "see" the amazingness and coolness of the violin as an instrument when they hear this movement, if one gets that funky pulse right, that is :). Good video.
Fell in love with the Four Seasons as a teen watching Nigel Kennedy play and managed to persuade my violin teacher to let me learn it too. Watching it reimagined now by Ray and explaining everything I wish I could have learned as a teen just... I wish I'd kept playing.
@@amandacollecutt2491 If I wasn't bedbound right now, I just might! But it's *really* hard to play when you're stuck on your back and your arms are weak from neurological issues. But yes, I've considered it and fingers crossed I can get some of that resolved and use this as a recovery goal.
Your videos mean a lot to me. I will be really glad to hear you play the whole song. I'm also practicing this song, and I want to use your technique for the whole song.
Yes. I agree absolutely. He can even make a cheap violin sound so good. Here I was really listening to his violin because I could hear the sparks from his violin strings and I had to make a comment on it.@@quest-cequecesttonvisage
Raaayyy ur amazing!! Just let me practice some time so i can do what you're explaining in that vivaldi summer!! Im excited. Please keep this videos going ❤
Ray you're a great educator! Not only a great artist and communicator but also blessed with the ability to explain it very well 🎉🎉🎉🎉 the handsome face is distracting though 😊
I’ve been playing the violin for 2 years now and feels like it’ll take, like, decades for me to be able to play remotely similar to this, violin is one of the most frustrating yet satisfying instruments out there to play
I'm really excited there's a tutorial for this piece! I'm gonna learn it! We'll see how far I make it before I give up. Those harmonics might be it for me 😂
Hi Ray, I have one request as someone who's been to a few of your concerts over the past few years. At every concert I've been to, you've played either Waltzing Matilda or Paganini Caprice 21 as an encore, and I was wondering if you could learn a new piece that you could play to the audience. I'm looking forward to your Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky in Korea!
I dont play the violin but still enjoy very much your videos of teaching and interpretation comparisons! Ray u r such a great interpreter!❤ (honoured to c u once in your concert playing Mendelssohn😊) And surprised to see that cute emoji when u talk about shyness😂
❤Eu amo violino, e as quatro estações é o que mais amo. Toca fundo na alma da gente, não consigo nem explicar, é sem palavras o sentimento, do começo ao fim da música. Ela me alegra e me faz chorar ao mesmo tempo. 🙏❤🎻🙏🎻❤🙏
Thank you so much for this, Ray. I really enjoy listening to some of your thought processes when you play. I wonder how great it would be to have you for a teacher.
Hey Ray I have some questions about the Kenedy violin challenge 1. Are you picking the winners randomly?? 2. Are you going to make us pay for shipping?? 3. Am I the one who made you start this challenge??
I adore it when you play Vivaldi. I eagerly clicked this video to learn how to play this like a pro! Unfortunately you added “ its easy IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING”!
Hey Mr. Ray. First, I just have to say your ability is so good that it is not fully human (I hope to achieve these qualities). Second, is the free violin a sweep stakes for entering, or being top 99 in the challenge?
This the classic (haha) example of what a difference having a great teacher means. When you have a teacher that involves you with the subject and makes it fun and interesting you can also teach stuff that it's 300 years old.
Could you please make a video about "A Day in the Life of the World's Famous Violinist - RAY CHEN"....I mean a normal day VLOG for what you do throughout the day (just curious about your daily routine)

Thanks for watching! I’ll see you in the practice room on Tonic: tonicmusic.app/join-in
I am super excited !!!!!
I cant find your id on tonic tho :)
How often do you replace your bows? since in every video I see you playing you lose a few hires 😂
@@Hi-how-are-you-today. that is common for violin bows ! They keep getting off
@@Xphqntom I understand but from other violinists I’ve seen playing classical music (even Vivaldi summer) they lose a bit but not that much.
