THE BEST N64 GAMES: th-cam.com/video/RRzTctIbJxw/w-d-xo.html
When it came out, I called it Super Nintendo, as did everyone else I knew. As a 41-year-old I still call it that to this day.
Well of course you did because that's the consoles name that's why. It's the nerdy gamers who were 45 still living in their mom's basement and try to shorten it to show off to their friends and think it makes them look cool... But I was it really does is justify the fact why he's 45 and still a virgin
@@quintocreations5091bro is mad
I also remember just calling it super nintendo bk then when it was actually current. Seems like the shortened nicknames for it is a new school thing. Remember, we were coming from (original) Nintendo bk then. Kids said the whole title to make sure you knew they upgraded to Super!
I called it the super nes hehe
@@quintocreations5091 funny stuff, and pretty accurate, but lay off the hate
Leaving Secret of Mana off this list is criminal...mindblowing gameplay and music compositions for its time. Honorable mentions need to go to Turtles in Time, Killer Instinct/Mortal Kombat 2, Pilot Wings and Starfox
na, to be honest, there are better action rpgs on the system. One that immediately comes to mind is Terranigma, which never got a stateside release, as Nintendo supposedly stopped releasing SNES games in favor of promoting N64 games.
It's okay trials of mana is way better and they didn't mention that either
Star Fox is literally one of the best games made for the SNES. That’s not subjective but objective.
@@reidsimonson no it's not... it just has a cool graphic style. Most space shooters are much better than those games. Starfox is just a nostalgic game for people
MK2 is nostalgic but MK3 is on another level. It's like twice the roster and the combos are huge.
I call it Super Nintendo Chalmers.
DK Country is a Masterpiece, each stage is unique with it's own Soundtrack that is really good and sets the mood.
Easily the best game on the system.
best game if u like to smash controllers
SNES was peak gaming
Was this particular super Mario world game the original first copy? I believe it had to be since it came in the box with the system too.
Facts.
Turtles in Time should've been on this list but this is still a really good list👌🏿
Definitely. That and Super Ghouls and Ghosts.
That’s a goodn’
Star Fox and Secret of Mana not being on an SNES top 20 list but Sim City and Contra 3 is is WILD!
don't you ever again talk anything negative about Contra 3 again
Understood.
Or Sim City. Nuff said.
Starfox is not a good game. It's just got cool graphics and atmosphere. But as far as a flying shoot em up it actually plays very poorly compared to other games in that genre.
Sim Ant was way better than Sim City. Also MK3. Mana series games, Primal Rage, Battle Toads and Double Dragon, Breath of Fire II, Doom, Tetris Attack, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse this list is borderline insulting.
Contra 3 is a classic Sim City not so much
Missing Mortal Kombat II and Turtles in Time!
@CPoston420 Nintendo purposely censored the blood and the way the fatalities worked in the SNES version of MK II so it was beyond LAME! Playable but VERY Lame! 😒 Sega Genesis version was Superior! 😎
@@bradleymcavoy3432 Nintendo's always had that policy, officially they claimed they wanted their games oriented to all family of all ages, obviously what made Mortal Kombat was because of the blood originally in the arcade, everyone was pissed at Nintendo for censoring the blood...
But, that's not just the MK series getting a dose of more censorship out of Nintendo, ever tried Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on the SNES ?? All three of the NInja Gaiden games they transplanted for a version on the SNES, sounds effects went bad, and when it comes to the blood, they changed it from red to green...
They still improved the continue system, originally the third game had only a limited set of continue, but this time it was unlimited like the two others, there's now a password system that was added...
But, back to Mortal Kombat, the SNES ain't much, you'd get it better on Sega Genesis, they played MK as the way everyone wanted they used to see back in the arcades....
So glad Chrono Trigger made the list, still quite possibly my favorite game of all time
Same here bro. I love that game
Definitely my favorite game of all time. It’s perfect to me.
How could it not? Chrono Trigger was THE best RPG game for the SNES.
Zelda n trigger share number 1 I cried when I couldn't play either 1
never playd it...whats so special about it since its turn based rpg eww
I still play Super Metroid, it still holds up so well.
Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals will always be my number 1. Man, I was addicted to that game for years as a kid.
Lufia 2 over chrono trigger for sure
its such an amazing jrpg combined with a pet system and bunch of puzzles !!!!!!
@@AlreadyAway lol men, chrono trigger is like best game ever for most of people, dont compare
Secret Of Mana should be on this list, at least in place of one of the FF entries. That game is incredible.
Came here to type this
Could not believe it was missing...
+1
Seriously
It's one of my favourite all time games. It's almost criminal not to be on this list. It's miles better than FF4
1991-1995 really was a golden age for creativity. Artists, designers and composers coming together to create many, many labours of love on a console that was worthy. High quality with high output. Honestly, you can do a top-50 for SNES and the drop-off in quality is insignificant. Many classics and many excellent games. And there's something about the vibrant 2D pixel-art that has remained timeless even as the technology has increased.
Man do i miss monstrous robot, flesh bosses in newer games
Crono Trigger was such an experience. I played it with a friend. Very good game to have a friend to get through it all with. That and Zelda. Stayed up all night many nights with those.
My all-time favorite, hands down. I spent hours and hours on that game, collected all the items, maxed out my characters, and finished ALL the endings. A masterpiece.
how do u play it w friends. is there multiplayer
just 1 player, took turns or just watched eachother, both of us experiencing the game almost like a movie and both thinking parts through together.@@samu-chan
Zombies ate my neighbors is the greatest snes game of all time
Killer Instinct?!? It had the best graphics of any arcade game when it came out!
An addition to the list would be the Secret of Mana, imho.
Actraiser and Turtles in Time would have made my top 20, but great list nonetheless....that's the problem with making a top 20 list for arguably one of the greatest consoles ever made. The game library for this system is legendary and doesn't have many comparable. As far as sports games go, I can't even fathom how many hours I played Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB and the Tecmo Super Bowls. As mentioned by some others Secret of Mana was a great RPG, I would also toss in Ilusions of Gaia, Soul Blazer, Terranigma, and Breath of Fire series. Also, not counting games like Sunset Riders, Wild Guns, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Goof Troop, Pocky & Rocky, or Super Turrican.
I think truly with how many valuable, wonderful games there are it should have been something like a top 30,40, or even 50. The catalog for SNES is massive and there are soooooo many gems
Actraiser is amazing my fav snes game ever tied with super metroid
My best game was Shadowrun
The SNES had so many note worthy RPGs, the FF series and Chrono Trigger being some of my all-time favorite RPGs to date. Another that I think falls into that same level of awesomeness was Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals.
Beyond Oasis was another action RPG that I always thought came close to Zelda.
Nothing touches zelda
Beyond Oasis was on the Genesis, not the SNES.
Secret of Mana
The donkey Kong country cave level background littereally looks like the orange stalagmites have evil faces on them! I’ve noticed.
Breath of Fire II was epic
A couple changes need to made.
18. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition
9. Street Fighter 2: Turbo
Beating super punch out took forever....felt great beating it. Staying up till 4am in elementary school
ActRaiser was one of my favorite SNES games.
ActRaiser was good enough to get a remake. I would put it high on the list. Not sure what would get removed.
Shadowrun was one of the systems goats, up there with FF III and Chrono Trigger.
Cultured, what a game Shadowrun was. Jake Armitage!
@@darrenmoxon9622 Yeah! One of my faves! A shame the new ones weren't the same style, nor were they nearly as deep as the original was.
Top Gear 2 for me. Best soundtrack ever. :)
Can confirm. Owned Mario, Zelda, SimCity, DKC, Punch Out, Street Fighter, NBA jams, FZero, Pilotwings, Ninja Turtles, and Killer Instinct. Good times.
Killer Instinct would be on my list as well
Did you know the creator of Earthbound is a major celebrity in Japan? He has done films including the voice of the dad in Totoro? He is also a creative marketing genius, and all this ties into why the game went from nothing to a legendary untouched masterpiece in the states: all of his experience, especially the creative marketing part, he was able to express in the game like he does in his career. While only dabbling in programming, he was best friends with Iwata who he called to fix and ultimately save the game from demise.
The game is the only rivaled by two other games FF6 and CT. It had a dream team as well too.
I used to play DKC3, Ken Griffey Jr's winning run and paperboy all the time. I still have my Super Nintendo.
For me, Super Ghouls N Ghosts is in the top 10. Underrated!
Yees man for sure !! One of my favs too✌🏽
No UN Squadron or Ninja Warriors?! If you haven't played these 2, they'll make your top 15--if not top 10...Ninja Warriors is my best game of all time! It may require doing some research on all of the moves, but--once you can do them--this one will blow you away on the fun factor! And, I like UN Squadron better than Contra 3.
Some others that some people might have in their top 20 lists:
Killer Instinct
Super Mario All-stars plus World
Final Fight(whichever is your best--probably 1 or 3)
Super NES is the G.O.A.T. of all home consoles.
Grew up with the GameCube, but I would often visit my older cousin's house as a kid, and he introduced me to SNES games. SF2, UMK3, Super Mario World, Mega Man...the list goes on. The fact that most of these games still hold up well is a testament to how revolutionary the SNES was.
Secret of Evermore and Secret of Mana are 2 of my favorites from the Super Nintendo.
I grew up with the SNES , bought it in 1992 in Germany, very great console. Golden era of gaming. I had Mega Drive, as well. I grew up with Sega and Nintendo.
My top 5 is 1- Earthbound, 2- LTTP, 3- Super Metroid, 4- FF6, 5- Super Mario World
Sadly Nintendo didn’t FORGET about F-Zero, they explicitly said, they won’t be making another one, since it had fallen out of time. (According to them, of course we all heavily disagree)
We need a new F-Zero so badly...
At least you guys ha w F-Zero 99 for as long as that lasts.
I also remember them saying that they used f zero to try and push the technology in their new consoles. With the route they went with the switch there really isn't anything to "push" anymore
Mind blowing Star Fox wasn't mentioned
Great list. All these games are classics and gave me so many hours of fun growing up.
I have called it super Nintendo since I got one when it came out for Christmas as a little boy.
Love this list! Too many great SNES games to choose from
Thanks for doing this. Subbed ☮️
Nice to see a list that’s honest and not just the most expensive titles for the console.
I'd add Killer instinct,MK 3, illusion of Gaia/Time, Secret of evermore,Secret of Mana
I think his list was for kids without many friends
@@godrulzthe602lol I had a lot friends growing up but chose to be a loner most of the time. Not sure if that is a bad or good thing lol
Killer instinct ❤️
Definitely killer instinct over mk or sf all day
Secret of Mana was awesome!
I always thought the best Metroidvania was The Goonies 2 on NES....
Back in the day in Brazil we used to say, Super NES N-E-S all together !
For me it was always Super NES
Mortal Kombat 2 got snubbed. I agree with #1 and #2 on this list.
Really good list! Thanks for this video! It was awesome!
Nah this list didn't have Crono trigger higher on the list, as well as Mario RPG. Toss up for link to the Past, and Super Metroid. Still needed Secret of Mana, Super Star Wars, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, Illusion of Gaia, Super Ghouls and Ghost, Zombies ate my Neighbors.
Cool and weird at the same time to see footage of DKC 2 the lost levels instead of the OG game (that hack is tough as nails)
When a console has so many original, ground-breaking, and - at the time at least - exclusive titles, it is very weird to have a PC game conversion on a best of list, especially if that version is also clearly subpar to the original. Scratch Sim City.
I am not a sports fan so I would have removed NBA Jam and Super Punch Out and put Batman Returns and TMNT IV : Turtles in Time on the list
I was actually okay with those ones. I'm no sports guy myself, but those were top of the list of the ones I could actually get enjoyment out of.
Finally someone that didn't put Super Mario World on 1st place. It's a very good game, but not 1st for me. Super Metroid on the other hand, well that's another story 😀. Good choice for the number one spot.
Terranigma, TMNT IV, ISS and Demon's Crest are in my top 20
Terranigma didn’t release in US, so not sure it should be included. It’s a great game, and way better than half the games listed, but no one knew about it for a long time in the largest gaming market at the time.
Breath of Fire was and still is my favorite SNES game.
II crushes I for me. Building a city and exploring was mind blowing at the time
Depressing that no beat em ups were on this list I see TMNT IV : Turtles in Time in the intro but it is nowhere to be found in the actual list
I had Battletoad + Double Dragon and X-Men Mutant Apocalypse but yea this is kinda prime era of beat em ups
Missing Terranigma, but good list, not sure about the order, but that is subjective
I would omit "Sim City," and swap out "NBA Jam" for "NBA Jam: Tournament Edition," but a solid list, nonetheless. I'm not an RPG guy, but I can't argue with the many legendary RPGs the SNES was home to. For my list, I'd swap out the RPGs (all five of them) and "Sim City" for "Actraiser," TMNT IV: Turtles in Time," "Super Ghouls n' Ghosts," "Super Star Wars," "Starfox" and "Mortal Kombat 2." I'd also swap out "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" with "Super Mario All-Stars." Come to think of it, I'd switch out "Super Mario Kart" for "Pilotwings," and I'm not even joking. It was just a fun, casual play. There was something about that chill AF music that really put me in a great mood. Even when I failed, I just couldn't be bothered by it.
Madness or troll...
@@sirris4330 Sorry, bro, not everyone spends endless hours playing RPGs. They've never been something I've been interested in, and would much prefer to play an action platformer or "beat 'em up."
All the games I listed as substitutes are fan favorites, so it's not like I'm the only one that enjoys them.
Great list but chrono trigger should be 1! Also secret of mana should be on the list. It is a masterpiece!
Nah ff6 solos chrono trigger but its a close 2nd
There was a time I would play FF6 every year, usually a few times, while I visited Chrono like once every 3-5 years. Chrono is easy, FF6 has hard characters to master like Gau, Strago, Relm, that really require you to like master the game to use them well. Like, the floating continent is actually designed for Strago and Relm but players tend to not bring them. Chrono has an epic grand story and experience, but in terms of gameplay, FF6 is better. Also, Secret of Mana missing from this list was a shame. Yeah, Secret of Mana is a little sloppy in it's design, particularly once you get to the empire and up until you get to the Sunken continent, you can tell a lot of content was cut. There's Ruby Armor and Chobin Helmet in Southtown, but then Northtown has Tiger armor and there was no bosses between the towns, just a tunnel of dino fish and blue drops.
Although I would put Chrono Trigger at #1, it's hard to argue that either Super Metroid or ALttP don't deserve the top spot as well. That collection of 3 games can go toe to toe with any modern console's 3 best games and win. The SNES is peak gaming.
Great video! What's the game that appears at 0:16?
HAGANE.
I can't make it through a UK creator's Nintendo content without my ears bleeding from the Mayor-e-oh 50 times 😂 The character says his own name in the games!
until he corrects us we're just gonna keep saying it like that
@@CulturedVultures 😂love it!
Me and my kids regularly watch a YT creator from the Isle of Man. In comparison, a regular UK accent is honey for the ears. 😂
Great list...
❤
It’s hard to value RPGs the way i do and see something like MarioKart above FF6.
(Especially older games where i feel story, characters, villians, $$$/hour etc is >>>>>> to any other genres)
Alas, it is not my list….
However. That one is tough for me as racing games (and sports games) just do not score out well for me.
Like the content though. Nice work.
Contra 3 is number one for me. I used to beat it by myself. Two players is harder because you have to stay on the screen at the same time and work cohesively
I call it a super nintendo, just like every game that came out, just slap super on it. I never had one growing up, but I do now, what's some obscure games that would be good?
We simply refered to the Snes as a "Supa" where I live
I played Super Tennis non stop as a young teen. Loved that game.
Still one of the best Tennis games of all time!
Called it Super Nintendo back in the days, still call it Super Nintendo at 44.
I love that this list is missing a few I'd definitely have on mine, some things in very different order, and I'm still like good list! The SNES library is amazing.
Number 1 is metroid, number 2 street fighter 2 (it was amazing how good the snes version, it was *very* close to the arcade, and that was a big honking seller for capcom
Finally got around to getting hakchi on the snes mini. So just refreshing my old memory from the games I used to ply as a kid 😂
Lufia 2
Secret of Mana
Breath of fire 1 or 2
Soulblazer
Just a few of my faves that didn’t make the list. It’s hard to just pin down 20 of such a great console. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.
I loved Breath of Fire 2. Definitely in my top 5 RPGs ever
Why is Yoshi's Island called SMWorld 2, the famous plumber is in his childhood!
@culturedvultures why do you add a z on the end of SNES?
Great list. I think the entries are practically universally agreed upon, but many would sort it a bit differently.
Solid list. My favs not on the list were TMNT: Turtles in Time and the Super Star Wars trilogy of games
*Not bad!* 7 of those 20 are in *My **_personal_* top 10.
The rest of my favorites are very different.
Fun list.
Mine would have included a few Sports titles.
Specifically Super Tecmo Bowl and NBA Jam: TE, were a couple of my most heaviest played games back in the day, and are still fun to this day--except outdated rosters.
I also really enjoyed the Super Star Wars triology and The Lost Vikings.
Put Family Feud and Jurassic Park into the guilty pleasures section--they just miss my Top-20 cut.
SIM City, Street Fighter II, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid and Zelda: Link to the Past would have all made my list as well.
Earthbound would have just missed the cut for me. I didn’t have it when I was younger, so I dont really have nostalgia for it, but got it about a decade ago. Its a bit too grindy for my taste, but my sons love it.
NO RPG/ NO 1v1 fighter LIST:
SNES: Sega Genesis:
Super Mario World Golden Axe
Donkey Kong Country Sonic 2
F-Zero Comix Zone
Super Castlevania NBA Jam TE
Demon's Crest Vectorman
Super Smash TV Mutant League Football
Turtles in Time Mutant League Hockey
Mickey Mania Kid Chameleon
Maximum Carnage X-Men 2: Clone Wars
NBA JAM Toughman Contest
Mega Man X
Mario Kart
Sunset Riders
Contra 3
Spawn
In the intro segment, does anyone know what the game after Pilotwings is?
Great list and agree with the top 2, but only I would have ALTTP as number 1, but super metroid was brilliant
This list is very spot on with what I would make.
I just need to finally play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6...yeah I still haven't played those.
6 and 3 on the list is criminally low. FF6, CT, and LTTP should be the top 3 on any SNES list. It’s that big of a gap to anything behind them.
Space Megaforce is not on here? That's criminal!
F-Zero is a classic, it's a game I still pop into my Analogue Super NT when I need a quick racing fix. So fun.
Super Metroid, almost 30y later and is still one of the best Metroidvania to ever exist. It's a perfect game in my opinion, especially for its time.
The game's certainly not perfect, regardless of it's time. It had multiple ways to irreversibly mess up your progress and this happened to me 6 hours into my first playthrough, which made me start over and ultimately walk away from the game for 2 years.
I've played through the games over a dozen time and never had anything close to a bug. Also 6h is a hell of a long time to not finish this game...Takes about 2-3 hours or 4-5 to 100%...@@YourPalHDee
Fantastic list. Loved the video.
14:00 - I dunno. I love Mario Kart, but going back to the original definitely doesn’t hold up as well as I’d hoped.
Great list mate
The only right way to say it is,"es-en-e-es" 💯
I still love Metroid!
trash every one said Secret of Evermore is way better
Surprised Kirby Super Star didn't make the list. I'd also add Seiken Densetsu 3 (or Trials of Mana as its now known). I get that it wasn't popular in the west because it wasn't translated until the remake came out a few years ago, but what it accomplished on snes hardware was really something. A three player action rpg with multiple class paths, epic bosses in the god beasts, and top tier graphics and music. Plus depending on your starting character, the story would take different paths and have different bosses. You could even see the characters you didn't pick out in the world sometimes and talk to them.
I'm probably one of very few to have completed all gold on all racers on Uniracer. One of the best games for me on the SNES. Would still be playable today I am sure.
Nice list, another OP games:
Demon crest
Megaman 7
Megaman x2
Lufia Rise of the sinistrals
Plok!
Plok! Love it but not a lot of people seems to know about it.
Chrono trigger the beet RPG all time, I'm happy to see super Metroid in first place.
Solid list 👍
I remember looking for a new SNES game to buy at the time and I saw a big box called Earthbound at the top and I asked the worker if he recommended it and he told me he didn't but I loved the look of the game on the back so I bought it anyways. Glad I did because it was so much fun to play and I remember on the way home driving my mom crazy with the scratch and sniff stickers it came with I was scratching them in the car and they smelled so bad lol
Who is this worker? They must be shamed.
@@dannykent6190 haha that is true
IMO your ranking is spot on.
Cant argue with that list. Nice
