For me, seeing Terranigma's ending come together for the first time took my breath away. The way every big theme and little moment in the game built up to that bittersweet gut punch of a payoff was like seeing the developers pull off this amazing magic trick right before my eyes. It affected me way more than I was ready for. It's not just my favorite ending on this console, but of all time.

The ending of Terranigma is well worth the unfortunate grinding for Bloody Mary and Dark Gaia. If you ever give it another go, visit Neotokio before first visiting Beruga and check the garbage can next to the vacant lot at the northernmost part of the city. You can get there at earliest by first flying to the bird's roost from the African jungle and then taking the bird that flies you to Japan. Alternatively, it has a seaport, so you can take the ship. "as is being custom here, the music induces some bigtime goosebumps" -- man, you couldn't be more right. Something about the SNES that hasn't really been replicated very often is how the ending themes really hit the old onion-chopping notes :) I adore your videos, and the little touch with the arrows pointing out skip points was bloody genius!
Terranigma's ending is amazing, it is indeed a wonderful game. You have also a playable epilogue in which you get to talk to all the villagers before you go to sleep, triggering the ending. I don't want to spoil anything, but it is really heartbreaking. The montage that plays during the credits roll, which makes full use of mode 7, is also incredible. I also agree that Super Metroid's ending is among the best endings of all time.
I like your channel because you go straight to the point with valuable information. No click baits, genuine sense of humor and no reasons to show your face. Great!
For me is Terranigma #1 slightly before Super Metroid. The ending is so memorable. It‘s been 23 years now, since I’ve finished it and I am still coming back to enjoy it. Btw: another great video! Thank you so much!

great vid, as usual! The ending in Chrono Trigger with the staff as the characters also appears in SaGa Frontier on the PS1 if you beat the game with all the playable characters. That's a game from Square Soft and, again, from the PS1, so if you enjoyed the idea there, maybe you'll enjoy it in another nice game too
Thanks for shining a light on live a live, its a unique game and it kept me interested the whole way through. I hope more people play it. You really made it seem like the awesome game it is, the narrative was BONKERS to take in when i first played it blind. Uniting all your characters at the end was awesome, I loved having my favorites work together as a super party
FF6 has one of my favorite game endings of all time but I couldn't think of what you you'd put for #1 and when it came up - yep. Super Metroid. If there were ever a game that could potentially be the greatest game of all time on any console, PC, or anything, it could be that. An absolute master class in game design thats essentially never been topped.
The song "To Far Away Times" on Chrono Trigger never leaves an eye dry in me. It's so hauntingly beautiful that it sheds every tear around every gamer who completes it.
My favorite ending of all time is Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV) on other platforms. The whole game is very emotional and the ending is just epic.
I've watched a ton of your videos, but somehow I'd never heard of Live a Live. Sounds like an excellent game that I'm hyped to start up now! Also the structure sounds like it really inspired Octopath Traveler on Switch.
Sweet!!! I’m still SNESdrunk from last night. I was watching a bunch of previous episodes. So many amazing videos to chose from. Keep ‘em coming brother.
As a veteran gamer one of the best was Breath of Fire II. Probably important to note that I've only played the re-translated version but I was Totally blown away by the story and the ending.
The "bad" and "sad" endings are pretty memorable especially the sad ending. Go all the way through the game and it goes full circle like that. Brilliant 👍
Another game with a great ending is Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals (here in the PAL region it was just called Lufia IIRC). It's another RPG with a lot of heartbreaking twists and turns in the story. SPOILERS AHEAD! One of the most interesting parts is that the main character actually isn't just a silent protagonist, he falls in love with one of your party members, they have a child after a big timeskip, and you can really tell how time moved forward for all of your party members. However, you will have to assemble your old team again to stop the Sinistrals, and after you raid their great fortress in the sky, the main character and his wife sacrifice themselves to save the world from the absolute destruction that would occur. You see their souls rising up to the sky as two twinkling stars and then learn how each of the characters spend the rest of their lives, and then it ties into Lufia 1, which actually plays in Lufia 2's future, shortly after the Defeat of the Sinistrals.
For LttP, when I was a kid I cried as the flute boy "died" in the dark world after granting his final request. Then I cried again when you see him alive and well, reunited with his father during the ending.
Technically on SMW you do get a kinda different ending if you beat all of star world. But I understand what you were getting at. Great list nonetheless. Keep up the awesome work. You're a hidden gem on TH-cam.
Illusion of Gaia was good until the ending. Terranigma is awesome beginning to end. Also Live A Live has an amazing soundtrack. Yoko always does a great job. Just ask Legend of Mana and Kingdom Hearts
We used to sit in a group to the ending of SMW and all name all the enemies out loud as they scrolled across the screen and laugh That was a really fun touch for sure 👍

I was getting nervous when you kept going without mentioning earthbound... I'm so glad it made your #2. I love the entire game, but that ending had such an impact in contrast to all the silliness that came before it.
This was probably already mentioned a bunch of times in the comment section, but also when you rescue the animals at the end before escaping on your ship you actually get to see them fly away from the planet before it explodes. It just appears as a white dot flying away in the distance because of well how far away it is.
With Odio being the Thanos of Square Enix here, seriously he is the Most powerful square Enix villain ever created and the JRPG's most powerful misanthropist.
The ending music for Terranigma - "Return to Mother Earth" - is what has stuck with me the longest, and even watching it in this video it made me cry. It's so good.
Love that you compiled a list of endings for both mainstream and non-mainstream games. A couple of the mentioned ones I never heard of and yet I’m curious to play it. Wish it was released to gameboy console to try out.
SPOILERS FOR EARTHBOUND Earthbound would be my number one. Just because it consists of so many endings: First there is the Gygas battle which ends perfectly by seeing all your friend and peoble you met throughout your journey praying for you to suceed. Then there is the goodbye sequence and after that you can freely roam the world and check on everybody and how they are doing and I mean really alsmost everyone. Then you can decide if you bring Paula to your house so she can meet your mom or drop her off at her house. The reunion with your mother and little sister is really cute and heartwarming. After that you see the credits in front of all the pictures you took throughout your playthrough. And finally you see the Credits for all the Charackters you met throughout the game, ending with yourself as the Player which is really special if you consider the Battle against Gygas before. I really was so happy with the Gygas ending but this Game was just giving me one good ending after another. I just love this Game so much.
Great list my friend. I love your channel. Another satisfying and unexpected is Pilotowings (Spoiler alert) After you rescued those weird people, they treat you like a hero and you walk between soldiers and your old instructors, (and the music, oh men I love it) in the end you're face to face with big Al. Was amazing.
😳I used to PLAY 'Ignition Factor' on EMULATOR! I LOVED PLAYING it, BUT, it was clunky through using a keyboard and my horrible life at the time never helped. I used to REALLY like the SNES Mario World game, too. 🤓 I got a BIG RPG KICK out of playing Super Mario RPG! I think Mallow was a great character, but the wizard ally character was too much of a blank-RPG-Trope and the game got very formulaic sometimes in the middle areas of the quest- just upgrading items for better quality ones seemed boring. 😎 The SNES Zelda game has a VERY special place in my heart, too. Other than the EXCELLENT end scenes, I LOVED exploring the Lost Woods- deeper forest section and used to wish HARD to be able to go somehow further northwest on the map!😢 Alas, 'EARTHBOUND.'..😭 Nintendo's *_never_* going to give THAT game franchise it's due respect AND 'Earthbound 64' NEARLY WAS MADE, TOO! 'Earthbound' ALSO has a special place in my heart and the ending was so touching!
Super Castlevania 4 was my favourite. Really made it feel like the end of an epic journey. The music is astonishingly good and appropriate. The music is so important for endings. I also loved A link to the past.
Aw man this game... If you're looking to capture what it might be like to be Simon Belmont and go through that adventure all the way to defeat Dracula this game could easily be just that 👍 I always appreciate the atmosphere and the feel of it when I'm playing it. Might have to go for another run through here soon 😏

Live a Live is getting it's long-overdue release in the US this July with a enhanced HD rerelease for the Switch complete with a English Dub
Final Fantasy 4!!! So sweet and wonderful with perfect music.
I always thought Live A Live was pronounced Live A Live.
It’s pronounced Live Alive. Live as in “live a good life” not live as in “live action”. Not sure how he made that mistake.
no you idiot it's pronounced Live A Live
th-cam.com/video/lP57dnJdu1k/w-d-xo.htmlm19s
On the box it says ライブ ア ライブ
Lets head to Google Translate

Click the sound icon in the English section. And yes, I know I screwed up the pronunciation the 2nd time because I'm an idiot. But the 1st time was correct.
Backwards it's evil a evil
omg dude, I watched the Grumps play Super Metroid. I didn't know the ending and neither did they, so I was just as emotional and surprised as they were. A+ ending.
Glad to hear you got to experience that for yourselves. Definitely amongst the greats 👍
great vid, as usual! The ending in Chrono Trigger with the staff as the characters also appears in SaGa Frontier on the PS1 if you beat the game with all the playable characters. That's a game from Square Soft and, again, from the PS1, so if you enjoyed the idea there, maybe you'll enjoy it in another nice game too
Nice 👍
I always wondered if another game did something similar to the legendary programmers ending 👍
I really wish “Live a Live” had been brought over, that ending and those twists are better than a lot of stories we get in most modern games!
I was hoping you had Zelda LTTP and Metroid on here. Happy to see Metroid #1. You got that one right.
I beat Link to the Past a couple days ago. I told my kids that there would probably be a cool ending and fortunately it did not disappoint.
It's definitely mine for sure 👍
Great call on Super Metroid! I can still remember how it felt to stop holding my breath as I got on Samus’ ship and flew away!
The parade at the end of Super Mario RPG was worth mentioning!!
The song "To Far Away Times" on Chrono Trigger never leaves an eye dry in me. It's so hauntingly beautiful that it sheds every tear around every gamer who completes it.
Such a bitter sweet part of the game
After that whole incredible experience to know that it's all over 😣
My favorite ending of all time is Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV) on other platforms. The whole game is very emotional and the ending is just epic.
My picks:
Zelda' Link to the Past, Super Mario, Mario RPG
Edit: All three?!? Sweeeeet!!!
The sequel ending so good that they lead off the initial game in the series with it...
I came here solely to see super Metroid. Couldn’t agree more where it landed on the list
For LttP, when I was a kid I cried as the flute boy "died" in the dark world after granting his final request. Then I cried again when you see him alive and well, reunited with his father during the ending.
The sign of brilliant story telling and execution 👍
Technically on SMW you do get a kinda different ending if you beat all of star world. But I understand what you were getting at. Great list nonetheless. Keep up the awesome work. You're a hidden gem on TH-cam.
Interesting. I actually forgot about that because in every one of my playthroughs I just get everything every time anyway lol
Illusion of Gaia was good until the ending. Terranigma is awesome beginning to end. Also Live A Live has an amazing soundtrack. Yoko always does a great job. Just ask Legend of Mana and Kingdom Hearts
We used to sit in a group to the ending of SMW and all name all the enemies out loud as they scrolled across the screen and laugh
That was a really fun touch for sure 👍
We all know why Super Metroid is the best SNES ending, you just got to be good to get it ;3
DKC 2 for me, but this was an enjoyable list.
Yeah DKC2 should easily be in top 5
EarthBound’s ending is one of the big reasons I consider it to be my favourite game
What's even better is that the ending where you save the creatures in Super Metroid is canon and ties into the ending of Metroid Fusion.
My personal favorite endings would be Final Fantasy II and Earthbound
For the sequel, Chrono Cross, it too shares like 12-15 endings and one of those endings redoes the "meet the devs via npcs".
Thank you for making this video. I would never have had the time to play a bunch of these games, and getting to find out the end of them was super satisfying.
My personal favorite was the ending to Illusion of Gaia. I actually taped it to VHS so I could watch it whenever I wanted.
I always make sure to play Earthbound atleast once a year, and July is usually my time to do that. The video got me hyped to play it once again, let's go.
I try and play it yearly also! So great to meet another fan!
oh man, snes drunk says save the animals, hell yeah
also my snes drunk shirt arrived today, can't wait to wear it!
Long time subscriber. Loved this video! Truly an underrated channel. Keep it up.
Live A Live is such an underrated gem and a fantastic way to get into jRPG's.
It's everything Octopath traveler is not.......Awesome.
I always loved the ending of Illusion of Gaia. Bittersweet romantic. Also Secret of Evermore and Terranigma of course. Also Super Mario World 2 for that ridiculously awesome final boss fight! DKC2 and F-Zero were worth finishing because of the awesome end credits soundtracks......
The helicopter head spin to head whip swing at 6:02 was very impressive.
4:05 Alternate sprites and palettes for completing Star World.
6:01 This game has an ending that induces a great laugh everytime, guaranteed! lolz
I watched the worst endings vid first. Makes this one that much better.
I was getting nervous when you kept going without mentioning earthbound... I'm so glad it made your #2. I love the entire game, but that ending had such an impact in contrast to all the silliness that came before it.
Ff6's ending is a masterpiece
This was probably already mentioned a bunch of times in the comment section, but also when you rescue the animals at the end before escaping on your ship you actually get to see them fly away from the planet before it explodes. It just appears as a white dot flying away in the distance because of well how far away it is.
Oh my god this has to be one of my favorite TH-cam videos of all time! Awesome work!
With Earthworm Jim there's an audio clip for PC and SEGA CD versions saying you beat the game and some funny stuff.
Demon's Crest has some very cool endings, these depend on how much stuff you collect and as a result which final boss you have to defeat.
The finale in Live A Live was the Infinity War of the SNES to me and had me so happy.
With Odio being the Thanos of Square Enix here, seriously he is the Most powerful square Enix villain ever created and the JRPG's most powerful misanthropist.
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 Agreed.
SPOILERS FOR EARTHBOUND
Earthbound would be my number one.
Another satisfying and unexpected is Pilotowings
(Spoiler alert)
After you rescued those weird people, they treat you like a hero and you walk between soldiers and your old instructors, (and the music, oh men I love it) in the end you're face to face with big Al.
Was amazing.
Good to see somebody finally giving credit to Super Mario World ending. The music, the credits, the enemies names... it just great!
Illusion of Gaia also had a great ending, if I remember right. A forgotten gem like Terranigma, and one of my favorite games growing up.
😳I used to PLAY 'Ignition Factor' on EMULATOR! I LOVED PLAYING it, BUT, it was clunky through using a keyboard and my horrible life at the time never helped. I used to REALLY like the SNES Mario World game, too. 🤓
I got a BIG RPG KICK out of playing Super Mario RPG! I think Mallow was a great character, but the wizard ally character was too much of a blank-RPG-Trope and the game got very formulaic sometimes in the middle areas of the quest- just upgrading items for better quality ones seemed boring. 😎
The SNES Zelda game has a VERY special place in my heart, too. Other than the EXCELLENT end scenes, I LOVED exploring the Lost Woods- deeper forest section and used to wish HARD to be able to go somehow further northwest on the map!😢
Alas, 'EARTHBOUND.'..😭
Nintendo's *_never_* going to give THAT game franchise it's due respect AND 'Earthbound 64' NEARLY WAS MADE, TOO!
'Earthbound' ALSO has a special place in my heart and the ending was so touching!
This was a really fun video to watch. Great job of explaining the game stories first to help make sense of it all.
Thank you for watching
Super Castlevania 4 was my favourite. Really made it feel like the end of an epic journey. The music is astonishingly good and appropriate. The music is so important for endings.
I also loved A link to the past.
Aw man this game...
If you're looking to capture what it might be like to be Simon Belmont and go through that adventure all the way to defeat Dracula this game could easily be just that 👍
I always appreciate the atmosphere and the feel of it when I'm playing it. Might have to go for another run through here soon 😏
