Just an fyi, many people in “underdeveloped countries” as you call them eat really well, have access to fresh produce and it’s cheap so that could buy a lot. I’m an American who spends time and is currently pregnant in Egypt and I don’t need except folic acid because my diet is healthy- got buckets of fresh delish Mediterranean produce at my disposal every day. There’s literally a fresh food market on every block.

For the most part she right. People in underdeveloped countries don’t have access to good nutrition.

@Lilac Egypt is in Africa. Also, most of us in the third world countries eat fresh food daily. Its actually rare to not have a small backyard garden or fruiting tree wherever you stay. I haven't had junk food in weeks. Also, junk food is more expensive than fruit, veggies and meat.

I am from Jamaica but currently living in America. In Jamaica you can get fresh fruits and Vegetables for a more affordable price too. Most underdeveloped country as you said is way better than America where a lot of things are concern. When i was pregnant with in first son i was in Jamaica comparing both pregnancies now that i am in American, the health care system was way better and was free of cost too

@@jot5445 we’re just about 1 month from his expected due date. Dr says we can expect a 9lb baby boy. No we’re not married. BUT that’s definitely the goal. Money for a ring is just not in the financial plannings at the moment with having a baby n all. But definitely lil mans gonna help me propose to his momma when it becomes possible. I guess I have the fear of proposing without a ring in hand to do so.

@@187FML187 Have you had a discussion with your partner about her thoughts on rings and whether having one is important to her? I don't have an engagement or wedding ring and I'm happy with that. I didn't want to waste money on those things when we could put those funds to better use ensuring our future financial security. We put money that would have been spent on rings and a fancy wedding towards buying a home together instead.

Thank you for the link to the methyl folate deep dive!! I’ve been taking the nature made with folic acid for 4 months now ttc and was at the end of my bottle. I had a friend recommend bird and bee but was just shocked at the number of pills and also the huge jump in price. From what I’ve seen most providers genuinely didn’t stress about prenatals all that much and the marketing around these glossy direct to consumer influencer pushed brands just make things so confusing. I’m happy to continue with the nature made prenatals now having read the linked article and watching your video (after having scoured the internet for hours). Thank you so so much!

Congratulations, Dr. Perez! Question about choline: I read a book about a family with a history of schizophrenia (Hidden Valley Road), and it talked about new research suggesting that choline supplementation during pregnancy could help reduce the risk of the baby later developing schizophrenia. Do you have any information/thoughts about that? (Also happy to see I take the same prenatal as you!)

I realized that anytime i take it, my urine color changes to deep yellow, my stool turns to be black which i understood. My worry however is the pain I feel at the anterior left chest. That worries me. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks

Hi Dr. Perez, congrats on your pregnancy (and now maybe newborn)! I was looking into the Nature Made prenatal you mentioned but it looks like it doesn't have any choline. I also noticed it has soybean oil and I have issues with soy so it won't work for me. I've been looking at the Pure Encapsulations prenatal and it looks pretty great aside from high Vit A. The label says it has 2,400 mcg of Vit A as beta carotene. Is this an unsafe amount?

I just found out I'm pregnant after 19 years I thought I couldn't get pregnant again. I have my first son and he is 19 now almost 20. Give birth at 2003. I got pregnant with my second about 4 years after but miscarriage. I was very sad but then after that I try to get pregnant again I couldn't get pregnant I have PCOS and they put me on vitamin to get pregnant but nothing. So I give up so about 2 days now I feel so weak n my body was changing missing my period so I have morning sickness so I decided to take 3 pregnancy test and all 3 is positive within second. Congratulations! I live in my retirement in Sri Lanka which has lately been in the news for the wrong reasons. Over here, in the Third World, health care is basic. The doctors suggest folic acid as a prenatal supplement and nothing else because the women can't afford anything else. Possibly, for those who can afford it, something for bone development might be a good idea eg calcium + magnesium, for example. :)

Sri Lanka is having well developed primary health care system comparable to developed countries. They do recommend other necessary vitamins in addition to folic acid and all have access to them. Specially they provided freely by the government as Sri Lankan health care is totally free.

I dint take my prenatals in daily basis after first trimester as my Dr just randomly once mentioned many some people stop using prenatals. And I just stopped taking it regularly once I hit my second trimester. Now I am at my third trimester and whoever I mentioned about my irregularity if prenatals intake, they says it’s strictly wrong to not take them. Now I am so worried if I did grave mistake and will cause damage to my baby 😰… please insight me with this 🙏🏻, do I need to do anything now? I am at 7 th month now.

Hi I'm 19 weeks with my 3rd & last baby & I had a question about what's considered as too much folic acid during pregnancy. I was taking the prenatal pills that my primary dr. gave me but I'm not sure what the dosage was. I actually ordered some prenatal pills that's by the Swanson company & they're 800 mcg per capsule. Is that too much to take or is it safe to take TIA. Also by the way congratulations on the lil bundle of joy. I hope not being too personal but I was wondering what's the due date cause we're a week apart & my due date is between 10/30-11/01?

    • @HelloEllement
      @HelloEllement ปีที่แล้ว

800 mcg of folic acid is an appropriate dosage. The safe and tolerable upper limit (UL) for Folic Acid is 1000 mcg per day. Some people with a history of Neural Tube Defects in a prior pregnancy may be put on higher dosages by their MD.

Gotta love how obgyns are all about babies every day all day, but when it comes to hormones problems and have endometriosis they have no answer for you and look at you like they were just told to tell you the meaning of life. Let’s not forget that some of us hemorrhage on a regular basis and can’t get proper nutrition even in first world countries. I’m not pregnant and I need to take prenatals. No, not everyone in developed countries have access to fresh produce every day. People are poor and even homeless in the USA. I was homeless two times in my life.

Develpoed vs not developed countries... this isn't the first vidoe where they keep saying this.
Its not about that. Its about the quality of land/soil..
Let's say, Iceland greenland is quite developed, but what are they actually able to grow there? Not too much. They import. The Arctic, and
Siberia, isn't too developed, soil is crap, they find probably other sources of food though, and may should take suppliments.
Thanks for the rest of the video though. Very useful.

Pregnant people is such an offensive sexist degrading term to use for expecting mothers. The term is expecting mothers, use both terms when applicable to be inclusive or don’t use either. Women still have rights to our gender identity. I’d like for people to transition out of patriarchy and misogyny. Im a women advocating for women’s rights so know people will bashed, but I’ll die on this hill, women still have rights

I didn’t take prenatal vitamins with my first two kids and they were healthy and perfectly fine . In biblical times they didn’t take them so why should I take them while pregnant now 😑

Changing sea salt to ionized is not worth it. Just take an fast apsorbtion iodine supplement. But before listening to doctors on the internet. GET A BLOOD TEST DONE so you know your deficiencies in your current diet before taking random vitamin supplements.
