A huge percentage of the population is deficient in vitamin B12. So today, we’re going to talk about what causes a vitamin B12 deficiency.
A person deficient in vitamin B12 could experience irreversible damage, primarily to their nervous system and brain. A vitamin B12 deficiency could also lead to heart damage, anemia, depression, and other health issues.
Vitamin B12 is in red meat and isn’t present in plants. A well-known cause of vitamin B12 deficiency is a lack of animal products in the diet. If someone is vegetarian or vegan, they need to take a natural vitamin B12 supplement.
Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency many people are unaware of:
    1. H. pylori infection
    Remedies:
    • Broccoli sprouts or broccoli microgreens
    • Garlic
    • Probiotics
    • Clover or manuka honey
    2. Metformin
    Remedies:
    • Natural vitamin B12 supplement
    • Benfotiamine (vitamin B1)
    3. SNPs
    Remedies:
    • Natural vitamin B12 supplement (methylcobalamin)
    • Consume foods high in vitamin B12 (red meat and beef liver)
    4. Synthetic folic acid
    Remedies:
    • Avoid folic acid and take methylfolate instead, if necessary
    5. Laughing gas
    Remedies:
    • Take natural vitamin B12

PPIs also deplete B12. If you take methylcobalamin then you need to supplement adenysocobalamin because, while hydroxo or cyanocobalamin break down to methyl and adenyso, methyl is already broken down and doesn't do much good without the adensyo. Methyl is also expensive and doesn't last in the body long as long as hydroxo or cyano. Not everyone can tolerate methyl (I can't). Cyanocobalamin is the only form of b12 I can tolerate and while it is synthetic it is still effective. I have Pernicious Anemia (diagnosed 7 years ago) and have done a lot of research on causes and treatment of B12 def. I think it is irresponsible of you to only recommend methylcobalamin when that treatment is not effective for everyone.

My Dad was diabetic and on Metformin for years. Long story short, he was diagnosed with dementia by his family doctor. Ended up in rehab after a fall and found out his vitamin B12 was critically low. He started receiving B12 injections and seemed so much better. Unfortunately when his B level came up, they stopped the injection and he went straight back down hill and a few weeks later died from a stroke. If any loved ones seem to have dementia symptoms, B12 levels should be checked often.

Always take the B complex, liquid form. That way your body absorbs it. You hold it under your tongue 30 seconds. B vitamins are water soluble and don't accumulate in the body. Dr. Berg is talking about folate build up in some people. Make sure you get the methylfolate.

@S J I literally feel like I am dying! I have been terribly sick for 2 1/2 years, it started in early 2021 with numbness and tingling in my left foot. The symptoms have gotten steadily worse and worse, to the point where I have numbness, tingling, pain in both feet and legs, muscle weakness, and extreme daily fatigue. When the fatigue hits me, I feel like I have just been hit by a truck, like the life has been sucked out of me.
I have been to so many drs (including naturopaths, chiropractors, as well as regular allopathic drs), but supposedly they can't find anything wrong. I have had multiple b12 blood tests, and they are "normal".
I don't care what the tests say, I think I have a serious b12 deficiency, and I am taking matters into my own hands, because I don't want to die. I ordered injectable b12, and I am planning to inject it every day for 3 months. If it doesn't help, I guess I don't know what else to do, and I will probably die.

Dr. Berg, thank you for the wonderful medical and holistic education you bestow on the world. As I am aging, just turned 50 in January, I am becoming more aware of how little traditional pharmaceutical medicine helps and how much quality supplements and food make a difference in one’s overall health. It’s quite astonishing how I can take a pill for something, it doesn’t fix the problem and adds another problem. Lol. However, I can eat or drink certain whole foods and supplements, and the original problem subsides significantly or goes away completely. I’m stunned daily at how informative and helpful you have been over the years. Thank you again. It’s good to know that you are out there doing this work. You are a true gift. 😊✨🌷

Dr Berg, I really enjoy your videos. Many of your lessons I had to learn the hard way and it took me years. I was bit by a tick in 2016 and was infected with several tick borne diseases. It took over a year to be diagnosed, so it was pretty much chronic by then. Antibiotics were useless, unless I did heavy amounts of them via IV. I chose to do things naturally. All the Lyme literate doctors do agree that you have to make lifestyle changes above all. Fixing my diet, paying attention to all the ways to get good vitamins, fats, carbs, etc. Learning about what exactly is going on in my body and ways to improve it worked for me…and some hyperbaric oxygen therapy too. Thank you for making these videos. They help me remember more about the needs of my body the natural way.

My mom suffered terribly from GERD to the point that she had to have surgery for zenker's diverticulum. It didn't help any and she was miserable. Her niece worked for a pharmaceutical company and told my mom to gargle twice a day with listerine. Believe it or not it got rid of her gerd and rather quickly too and she seemed to fully recover and stayed that way for years.

i love your videos , they are so informative . I watch them and bits jump out and seem to make complete sense to me and my health . My question is where do you start to get answers ? I been to my doctors before for blood tests but noting ever gets flagged vitamin wise they are just determined its stress and want to give anti depressants . Ive had issues with nerve pain in my neck ,shoulder ,upper back , elbow all on one side .However im now getting intermittent throbbing in the other elbow too. Ive watched this and other videos which show the damage b12 deficiency can cause and it makes sense to me that there could be an inbalance but trying to get someone to listen is like banging your head against a wall . I know we are told we shouldnt use you tube as a diagnois tool but when you feel unheard its hard not to ?

I was just prescribed B12 injections. I do the injection myself weekly now. WOW! After just the first shot, my mind clarity was vastly improved. I had to request this specific blood test. My B12 level was WELL below the low side of the acceptable range. It’s amazing how our bodies need these nutrients but standard bloodwork doesn’t seem to check our vitamin levels.

Reason I'm asking is that when trying intermittent fasting and having less meals as you recommend, it poses an issue for people who do not have the stomach capacity to eat enough in 2 meals. Would love to hear your views as I respect all your advice. Thank you for all you do!

Thank for this video. I've been watching a few now and I like the information.
I'm suffering long term health issues from a covid infection waaaayyy back in September 2021. Male..
    37 when infected.
Now 39.. quality of life is 4/10
Was previously doing 15 mile bike rides on a weekend effortless.
Now spent a weekend building IKEA furniture and it's Fatigued me. 😓
    Now have insomnia..unrefreshing sleep.
I've been to GPs here in the UK who are misinformed/negligent, I'm having a nightmare getting back to full health. Totally blown my perception of doctor's here.
All the tests were done multiple times over 18 month's.
    Blood work.
    Echocardiograms.
    x-rays
    endocrinologists.. neurology..
    Cardiologists. and I'm apparently normal
I'm convinced(hoping) my continued issues are from the gut. My "long covid" started with gut Issues and I recall it.
I had/have a lot of gas , Fatigue and muscle weakness.
TMI. I had a colonic and felt better almost immediately. A week later I'm improved, Alot less gas, and it was noted by the nurse that I have soo much trapped gas durin the procedure... and I mentioned SIBO.. she said possibly... and could be the case?
Does that give me a clue that something is out with my gut causing all my Issues.
When I was admitted to a&e back in 2021 they the glorified flow chart followers "doctors" gave me co-amaxclav anti biotics ona two week course.. (For a virus??) Back then I was indoctrinated into the doctors know best so blindly followed their lead. I was told it was Incase I got pneumonia....(I didn't have pneumonia at the time as a chest x-ray 🩻 showed
I'm still unwell, Fatigue, deconditioned.. me/CFs like symptoms but still working.. and small crashes .
Occasionally short of breath/pressure headaches... memory issues.
I've recently upped my iron supplementation and and added lactoferrin and added beef spleen and felt better... Hard to tell what's working.. self experimenting.
I take b1/ NAC sporadically... Had B12 injections felt better for like 2 days..
However if my gut isn't absorbing via food or supplements or my body isn't producing these what's the point.. 😅
If I'm supplementing, there must a be a reason my body isn't sourcing these naturally from my diet, perhaps something interfering in my metabolism, perhaps the virus is still in me or my immune system is gone haywire..
    Any suggestions from people here
    Where do I start!
Would Dr berg do a video on long covid? And suggest that a gut issue could be the cause for some ? (I know some are very very unwell with Long Covid and saying it's just the gut is simply not going to fly)
    Thanks 🙏

I watched many of your useful videos, as I watched many others, and the most important thing I concluded is that all diseases that afflict us begin in the stomach, specifically indigestion. If we had preserved our stomach, we would not have reached these health problems. So the Arab physician Al-Harith bin Kalda was right when he said the stomach is the home of the disease and diet is the head of the medicine.

After talking to others who also have gulten sensitivity they had the same issue; starting in their early 40's. A delayed type scenario. Weird isn't it. My route cause seems to be auto immunity from some kind of genetic mutation. My immune system has munched my thyroid giving me hypothydrodism, I have b12 deficiency, irritable bowel syndrome with conspitation of all things, and I get lupus type symtoms on my skin from caffeine and dairy. I can't eat gluten and of all things I can't drink alcohol..... not good. I know it's a lot of details but I'd love to know if more people have issues in their early 40s and what the genetic causes of this could be.

I am coeliac, found out about 12 years ago. Though probably long before then. This means I have autoimmune disorders. I have hypothyroid for about 35 years. I am on a path for reduction of levothyroxin. I went down from 175mcg to 100mcg in 2019. Now trying again. The reduction in 2019 was with use of supplements and up to 72 hours fasting. I have not been able to fast since. I am retracing all the supplements I had before. If course no gluten or soya. In 2019, I had no dairy or alcohol. In the new year, I shall stop dairy and alcohol. My b12 and vit d is on very high, so I have reduced my intake of these. B12 is in meat (which I do not have), fish, eggs and dairy mainly. So please get your blood test done before embarking on any supplements. Being coeliac means that some nutrients do not get absorbed by my body, hence annual blood test. Last year, the doctor did not give me results as was she never tested for the blood. This year, I had to complain to the hospital before it was done. My absorption of nutrients is very effective, as only 1% of gluten exists in my blood. The gastroentrologist said the allowance is up to 6%. I also have osteoporosis/osteopaenia and osteoarthritis. I do cardio and strength training and pilates. This helps but still long way to go.

It was called pharmacognosy then, and it's a vast knowledge our doctors are not studying in medical schools anymore since after the war.

Most nutritious breakfast at 11 AM - beef liver, endive salad, dill pickle and hot cocoa with coconut milk & psyllium.

I hv Been diagnosed with B12 deficiency due to pernicious anemia or is it bice versa & now taking B12 cyanocobalamin 1000mcg injection every months for life . What are the implications coz I heard from you that synthetic supplements are not good for the body. What about methylcobalamin Instead which is s the natural version what's your advice, thnx🙏😮

You missed a couple of big ones many don't know about - heavy alcohol consumption, and hormonal birth control.

    • @persephone248
      @persephone248 ปีที่แล้ว

@Helen Keto I'm sure many do and don't realize it! But supplementing wont help if you've lost something in your stomach called Intrinsic Factor which allows your body to properly use it. Alcohol can cause this particular loss. If you don't have it, oral supplementation of b12 will be largely ineffective.

Good day, Dr - If I take adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin together - will this be beneficial, add extra benefit or do they deplete the other? I have watched your videos and not certain about this. kindly advise, Many thanks

Matula tea and grapefruit seed extract. I've used this in the past for H. pylori infection and parasites, and it worked very well.

That covers everything about B12 not popularly known. However, if you lack the intrinsic factor in the stomach B12 by mouth is no good and 3 monthly injections are needed for B12 to go straight into the bloodstream.
I'd be very interested in your take on this - whether it's enough and whether there's a natural alternative since as you say synthetic versions of vitamins aren't as good.

Injections do not go into the bloodstream. It is injected into the muscle then it is absorbed into the cells. I'm on daily injections of hydroxycobalamin for 5 months now. I am a different person. I'm fairly sure it's the identical molecule to anything natural therefore my 100 trillion cells are recognising it.

Thanks Dr. Berg. This gives a good insight about what might potentially going wrong with my health. I have been to ER 3 or 4 times in total, panicking because of lightheadedness, sometimes dull or sharp pain in center or left part of the chest, burps. The doctor has examined my blood, ECG, Treadmill test, Echocardiogram and said my heart is healthy. So he prescribed pantoprazole pill thinking some kind of digestion problem. I don't know if that worked or not but my issue is sporadic. In my overall blood test ordered by the doctor, only Vitamin B12 was abnormal and deficient. Now, I should re-consult my doctor and see if this vitamin deficiency is the root cause of my problem and test whether I have H. Pylori aggravation or some thing related to digestive enzymes or a different problem altogether.

I took omeprazole for years before I had an operation for hiatal hernia. I think pantoprazole and omeprazole are related. The omeprazole affected my kidneys. Be careful.
