    Retired RN here. At my last job, the carers ordered in a fast food lunch. I said nothing but one must have noticed my reaction...she said "Not healthy enough for you Pam?" Yet, those same people were either morbidly obese or suffering from all sorts of auto-immune diseases and taking all sorts of medication (they had shared this with me). I regret now not turning this into a 'teachable moment" but their anger and defensiveness caught me off guard. They had obviously observed what I ate, and then felt guilty and ashamed about their choices - so their decision was to (1) continue their lifestyle and (2) attack me. An interesting moment and Dr Fuhrman knows how these people react.

      Yeah, people go through the stages of lose when they lose their reasons for being pathetic: anger, denial, bargaining, depression, and eventually acceptance and it probably isn't until then that they will appreciate our attempts at helping them... process each time and day things like this happen. John Cairns I think if he’s on a Whole Foods planet based diet he’s
      probably getting plenty of fiber. Juicing is only unhealthy if you’re juicing like 10 oranges and drinking it down in one go. Generally the base or majority of the juice would be a cucumber some celery then you add kale and spinach and then maybe an apple or beet. That can only be beneficial. Even to someone not getting a lot of fiber.

    In 2009, I joined weight watchers. I lost 115 lbs following their point system. I ate whatever I wanted (processed junk food), but I always stayed within my points religiously. I dropped all that weight in 10 months. Life was good! I was thin again! Five years later I had gained it ALL back. Now I’m trying to lose it again, but this time I’m doing it the right way. I’m not counting calories, I’m just focusing on eating mostly whole plant foods (also walk daily and workout 4-5 times a week). The weight is coming off, but much more slowly this time. I’m okay with that. I’m trying to become the healthiest version of myself, and I want this forever, not just for a few years. Restrictive fad diets are so dangerous. Thanks for this information!

    • @adrienneshorty6873
      @adrienneshorty6873 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrsaye499 It's better felt than described but I will attempt to. I am in no way there with my diet...yet. I cut out meat, still eat fish, a little dairy and processed foods. Anyway, when you are hungry, pay attention to where the sensation is coming from and what you feel. Start to really listen to your body. I distinctly remember feeling an unusual sensation in my throat a few years ago. When I tuned in more, I realized it was the hunger Dr.Fuhrman described and got excited because I literally had no idea of what 'feeling hunger in my throat' meant, until I actually did. The way I describe it is that it radiates in the throat. For me it was on the side of my throat. I hope that helps.

      @@markbrakebill1057 yes many. most universities offer lectures on youtube or their own website (many great scientists), all major medical sites (e.g. jama, cochrane, pubmed, ld50, medical textbooks currently used in med school mostly first year), many scientists/physicians/surgeons/nutritionists/engineers specialty medical science/medical journlists/authors (e.g. lustig, perlmutter, bikman, Barbara O'neill, ede, noakes, cywes, sher, comings, unwinn, veech, nadir ali, bredesen, cahill, campbell, and many many more), a handfull of gread podcasts that invite an array of physicians/scientists from all types of disciplines from all over the world. As you can see, I included a few Vegan/vegetarians in my list. Btw, many sports physicians/nutritionists/therapist also have fantastic lectures posted online. Vegan or not is not the issue. In my opinion the information should be factually accurate, especially if you work in the medical field. Dr. Fuhrman is trying to give a basic good message of "eat nutrient dense real food" + processed food is bad for you. He does not even qualify "processed". pickles/sauerkraut/kefir/yoghurt and many more things that are super healthy are also processed. as a physician you should be specific. However, dr. Fuhrman is just plain wrong about throwing macronutrients into one pot with regards to their nutritional value and effect on the body. He is factually wrong that micronutrients "fill you up". Any medical textbook will give you the correct answer. youtube is out there. you can do your own research. I have listened to several thousand hours of lectures by all types of experts, vegan to carnivore. after a while it becomes easier to discern who is factual and who is a showman full of "you know what". this fuhrman dr. is just giving WRONG information. what a salesman, very annoying when a Dr. deceives people. But, I agree they should have to - just like authorities should give us good advice, like the USDA. But, they're selling shit. And they don't care about our health. We should also stop subsidizing junk food and and animal foods. We should take back our small local farms - with human intensive and many inter supporting plants and animals. We should take back our gardens, our health, and our time. And take care of ourselves. But, again, we can't afford to wait until health authorities or doctors lead the way. And we can do it ourselves. And they will change in response to that, if there's enough pressure, they'll have to, or we'll just laugh them out of countenance.

    I clearly needed re-educating on nutrition and this talk has made it a no-brainer. Interesting how we do follow the crowd and look where it's taking us. I can't believe %90 + of the produce they sell in supermarkets isn't even real food. This is the wake-up call we all need.

    I was vegan for 3 years, that was the healthiest period of my life. I then read a book called "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" and my weight has ballooned since then. Now, I am making an effort to get back to being a vegan. It won't be easy, but I need to do it for the sake of my health.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not hard at all once you get in the swing of things. It's just beans, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices :) And nothing feels better than healthy! Just try to find some like minded people that you can interact with at least and help support each other. A lot of people use Meet up. And Facebook has a lot of groups you can find one for pretty much any area you live in. As for nutrition I love the daily dozen app. It's the best way to get on the healthiest diet easy and free. Once you get the ball rolling you'll love it! And consider being an advocate. Helping others can inspire you to learn as much as possible. But learn as much as possible 1st. I love studying nutrition and it really helps me put people in their place because people will talk big about things they know nothing about. When I went vegan 10 years ago I really didn't know what to eat and I never really talked about it. But 6 years later I started learning about nutrition and I couldn't help not talking about it because I want others to be the best they can be also. But now I dedicate my all to helping accelerate the movement by giving my video production skills to capture all the awesome people in the movement I can and sharing that. I'm getting ready to release some awesome videos. I'm travelling right now capturing all kinds of vegan stories. Stay tuned and thanks for watching! What's cool about this, even though it may seem hard if you're used to the American diet, is that it's actually easier. You just have to get educated and motivated and then try it for awhile. Learn how to make delicious foods - salads with blended nut and seed and fruit and vinegar dressings, vegetable bean soups, steamed veggies and brown rice or quinoa, maybe with a peanut butter sauce you make from pb, garlic, and the water from steaming the veggies. You don't have to give up eating, you just eat more of these healthful foods first and put off the unhealthful ones and after awhile you don't want the unhealthful ones. Like I think about meat sometimes, but I would only want to eat it with lots of greens and onions and mushrooms, celery, and cashews, etc. and then, I'm like I don't really need it or it would be a flavoring at that point. Or it'd be down at a level, 5% of calories or less, that might not be harmful. So you feel better all the time, don't have unhealthful cravings, don't get sick as much or as bad, poop easily, not to mention have lower weight, lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol - right, everything is better - including your mood. You can exercise better, you can cook for your friends / family, Your taste buds are better - you enjoy food more. It's at least quite good and perfectly satisfying and you don't feel like crap when you're not eating. You might want to start gardening, check out permaculture, and then you don't need the disease care system, you can save money - interesting that "health" insurance costs as much as healthful food. You can turn your back on this but you're fucking yourself. This actually empowers people - it doesn't sell them garbage that hurts them, it empowers them to take care of themselves.
