Thanks doc! A truck lost its load on the highway causing a multi-car accident. My car got hit from behind by an out of control car and that sent me into a bridge abutment at about 60 MPH. My Acura had progressive crumple zones so I lived. In the places where the seat belt crossed my spine I had serious injury. My neck has cervical spondylosis (stage four). I have had very beneficial chiropractic adjustments. To my happy surprise, I have also had positive results with acupuncture treatment. I know my limitations and I am grateful for your extremely helpful advice.

I spent 32 years sitting in front of a radar scope (or screen as they are now called), controlling aircraft. Each session was up to 2.5 hours before getting a 30 min break, then back at it again; 8-10 hours a day. We are allowed to retire earlier than most, as early as 50 yrs, 56 as a maximum age. Besides the toll shiftwork takes on the body our posture definitely affected many of us. I’m 57 now and recently had surgery to fuse C-6 and 7 after developing cervical radiculopathy. Also have carpel tunnel....overweight, high blood pressure...the list goes on....loved the job despite all of this. Now I’m having lower back pain and sciatica, hope I can find permanent relief soon. Have been dealing with chroic neck pain for 9 months. Tried chiropractor, now doing PT and yoga. Love watching Motivational Doc; your recommendations have helped tremendously. What are your feelings about dry needling? Been receiving that as well from skilled physical therapist. Went to one PT and neck was worse after those sessions. Also, developed tinnitus on side with neck issues. For someone who's been plant based for 17 years and very active physically, this has been frustrating.

Thank you for making this video, Dr. Mandell. I've been looking for videos regarding cervical DISH. In my research, I found more information on bone spurs than I did DISH. I currently see two chiropractors. I have calcification of the anterior longitudinal ligament. I have DISH in C3,4,5,6. One chiropractor manually adjusts my neck, and the other uses her old school stem gun? I've also had adjustments with the activator in the past. I do not have any pain, but more of my C2 not wanting to stay in alignment. I was diagnosed in 2014. I read that changes in the x-rays can occur around 5 years, so I am sure to get recent x-rays every 5 years. My dish has not changed in 5 years. I can say, growing up, I always had forward head carriage. Birth trauma? Perhaps. But posture is so crucial. Foam roller is nice to lay on and stimulate the spine, gently. FYI for all who read this, coping with this condition - I just found out that fluoride causes soft tissue to harden. So, I now drink distilled water only. Thank you for all your videos.

I reckon I have bone degeneration and that's what has given me this terrible nerve pain over the past, coming up 2 months! "Silent" is right, it came out of nowhere! Boy, do I regret spending over two decades of my life with bad posture and way too much screen time!
I haven't gone to see a specialist yet, I am learning from people like yourself and also am listening to binaural beats to help speed up the healing process. Have also started taking daily turmeric supplements to help with inflammation and have many books I will be reading about improving our health naturally, and also via diet!
I would like to know exactly what is causing my nerve pain, but I heard (maybe through you?) that it's not always what am MRI shows. Also, why freak me out? What's done is done. I want to focus on the solution, not the problem now.
Will bring yoga back into my daily life again soon. There's still hope for healing and I choose to believe that I will come out of this feeling more healthy and empowered than ever before! 😀 I wish the same for everyone who has experienced pain of any sort! ❤

When I was twelve years old I was forced to jog during physical education classes. After about five minutes jogging, I always felt such pain in my right arm, it felt as if it were about to dislocate from my shoulder. I couldn’t continue jogging because of this pain. The teacher punished me every class for that. She couldn’t believe me. I knew somehow my arm was affected by the motions of jogging, but no doctor believed me. Fortunately, my parents knew I wasn’t lying.

Thank you for educating me on my condition. When I first started having the neck cracking, popping, stiffness and pain, I felt as if "something was out of place," and began looking for a chiropractor. Fortunately, I chickened out, and consulted my GP who sent me for a series of x-rays, and thus the diagnosis of cervical DDD. I am learning so much from your channel.

At 04:54 is exactly what I do for a living. I’m a transportation coordinator and constantly looking up, down, holding the phone with my shoulder while I type and now I have cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy. I’ve had C3 - C5 replaced, C6 - C8 fused and I just had posterior surgery with rods and screws in between each vertebrae and he fixed some bone deformity in my upper back. The incisions was from the middle of the back of my head to the bottom of my shoulder blades. Hands down, one of the hardest surgeries I’ve had to recover from. I still have some numbness, but it’s not as painful.

You dont have to live like that the rest of your life. Go up here on you tube dr Ross Hauser and look at his videos on it. Hes an expert in it. I had him do mines. @ shade of my life . Mostly, Facet now, but I've got such bad DDD and Arthritis it's not funny. I use everything together, the exercises are great, because not one thing helps. I've got 3, 2 level Fusions. Two Lumbar and one Cervical. I am probably getting another Fusion Thoracic and Cervical.
Now, I've never tried Accupuncture, yet, I can't do Chiropractic, with all the metal.

Lava Girl I highly recommend optp.com for proper sleeping pillows and more. Don’t buy physical therapy products on amazon as you will be likely to receive products that are not safely tested, of poor quality or counterfeit that could cause you more damage/pain.

26 year old here, recently diagnosed. Aside from the terrible, intense pain that does not go away even with opioid medication, I've also been having cognitive issues such as poor concentration, poor memory, lethargy, difficulty formulating thoughts and speaking, and overall an intense brain fog that feels like I'm chronically doped up on tranquilizers and that does not go away and is completely undermining my life. Is there anything that can be done about the cognitive symptoms or am I SOL for the rest of my life??

Dr Alan Mandell, I would like to share my predicament with Cervical Spondylosis and Radiculopathy (with substantial spurs noted) C4,5,6 & 7, as diagnosed by Doctors at a Public Hospital here, in Singapore. The onset of symptoms were insidious, it began in 2017 and became intolerable this year, March of 2018, with radiating pain from the neck through in between my left shoulder blade, down to my left arm mostly, tingling and a very thick sense of numbness affecting my Ulna, and then spreading over to my right arm and numbing my right hand's thumb and first index finger. Doctors are affirmative that Surgery is THE ONLY way to remedy my problem, citing up to TWO discs which they say must be replaced and gave me 6 weeks to consider (both the economic implications and risks involved). So, what I did was surf the Internet and TH-cam and found YOU, Dr Alan Mandell. Thanks to you, I dug deeper and discovered WHY my OA had given me such grave implications. You did mention the benefits of drinking WATER, and from my various other online investigations, and comparing the MRI images I have of my Cervical Spine managed to pinpoint how I have gotten to this point in my life; I drank little water, was never in the habit of hydrating myself and only took sips of whatever drinks or water for decades, and only drank more when I am out in the sun. With this realization, that disc degeneration is basically due to loss of water in the discs as we age, I started drinking yesterday morning, finishing a one liter bottle of Dasani in the morning between 10am to 1pm and, voila...the pain stopped, the tingling became a fuzzy light buzz, the numbness in both arms thinned out, strength returned to my badly affected left arm, and I am now able to turn my neck left or right and look up like nothing happened. However, I can still feel that the nerves impinged upon prior to re-hydration are still a little sore but do not feel inflamed---I can tell a healing ache from an inflamed pain. So for all the medications given to me; Ibuprofen, Gabapentin, Pregabalin, and eperisone, to deal with the pain inflammation and muscle spasms, only WATER worked perfectly! Is there a way for me to show you one image from my MRI done recently? It looks terrible, but now after just one day (yesterday) of Water Drinking Therapy, it feels like there is nothing wrong!

C Jay Goh hi Jay, I’m also living in Singapore... and started to have bad headaches, pain and numbness in my left arm and sometimes left chest for 1 week. I went to polyclinic and doctor recommended physiotherapy for my cervical spondylosis. May I ask how you are coping with it so far? Any advice is greatly appreciated... Thank You very much.

I diagnosed with degeneration and I am very healthy guy with all my activities. One day got up from Ned with stiff neck and that last for 7 days then this cervical pain to left shoulder area started with radiating down to left arm. I went for physiotherapy and therapist told not to do exercises till pain gone with help of heating pad. , if I am getting pain in backward moves not to forward move then what exercise I need to follow. I m reported with degenerative changes in anterior n lateral marginal osteophyte and straightening of cervical spine due to muscular spasm.

      *Get an orthopedic pillow
*Check and work on your sleeping, walking, sitting and standing postures
      *Go for massage often
*Eat foods rich in vitamins B6 and B12
      *Get enough rest
*Cut off anxiety and stay positive
*Cut off excess body weight if you are fat
      *Do mild, spondylosis friendly exercises
I want to assure you that gradually you'll be fine. Take care.
