Hey I’m looking at making a decision for getting a new car, but is that really a great price? STI has always been my dream car and I was hoping for the sti to continue and be released when I graduate college (2024), But seeing how they discontinued the model I feel like how would be the time to get these cars with low mileage and decent prices while they last. I’m just scared to drop +$30k on a used car with over 30-50k miles. Would it really be a good idea to just send it and pursue my dream or should I settle for another new car that will be completely stock and 0 miles (new untouched engine).? I would love to own one but idk if it would make sense to settle on another vehicle for now and then trade in or take a leap of faith and go for it Any advice and guidance will greatly be appreciate.
@@riftorsill It's really up to you and what you value in a car. Seeing as the value of all STIs has gone up and will most likely keep going up, it'll be tough to find one in the low 30s with low mileage. VA STIs are mid 30s and up now. I'd see if you can test drive one, and then check out some competitors in the market, but the truth is all cars are going to be expensive right now due to the supply shortages. You can guarantee that the new Civic Type R and GR Corolla will be hit with massive markups as well. If you don't need AWD, the Elantra N or new GTI are solid choices.

Last month, I picked up a 2020 WRX Base with 3,240 miles on it for a pretty good price (good for this market, anyway). Happy I pulled the trigger, now just hoping it'll hold its value well into the future 🤘

I’ve owned nothing but Honda’s my whole life. I’m still a Honda person. I just bought a ‘19 STi Limited with 10k miles. I live in Wisconsin and needed something that can make it safely through the winters and haul a young family around on occasion. It’s on a transporter as I right this. Im pumped and I hope it’s what I think it will be. Have always had a great opinion of the cars. I waited for the new WRX to be revealed and it took a whole half-second to know I was buying a used STi.
I went with buying a 2021 STI Limited and traded in my 2019 WRX Premium with 22k miles. I couldn't pass up the trade in on the 19 and I don't care for the new look of the 2022 WRX. If the new STI has the same look, I don't care how much power it has, the car has to be appealing visually. I have no regrets. Love the STI. Its everything I wanted the WRX to be.
I own a 2020 Subaru STI in a limited trim. This car is just one of a kind. Look around, cars are not what they used to be. It makes me appreciate it even more due to this fact. This car is a dying breed. The car just feels right with its hydraulic steering and how amazing the transmission feels. Pair that to the all-wheel drive system unique to the STI and you have quite an amazing formula. I feel so lucky to own one and will hold on to it as long as I can. I appreciate what the 2022 brings as it seems like a great driving vehicle from what I’ve gathered, however I just think that the 2019+ STIs/2018 type RA are cars that you’d want to hold on forever so if you can find one get one!

Ive missed seeing you drive this Joe! Its going to be a super valuable and important car in subaru history mate you definitely have to hang onto this one .
I’m happy to have a BNEW 2020 WR BLUE STI. I got it when I found out that a new body was rumored. I did my research and the engine is the FA used in the Ascent. I took the gamble by getting the 2020 instead of waiting for the 2022. I guess the gamble paid off and I will never let go of it. Mine is still 100% stock. Btw, great video and you just made me more secure!
I bought my ‘20 WRX Limited in Feb ‘20 for 30k. I love it and it’s perfect for the hellish Chicagoland winters. I had a feeling the ‘22 would look hideous and I was right.
Bought my 2020 WRB WRX limited in April 2020 from Gerald Naperville, also 30k. For my winter wheels rocking gold sparcos with winter tires, absolutely perfect for the Chicago winter, agreed.
Keeping my 2018 WRX. If you own your car and there's nothing wrong with it, probably a good financial decision to keep it. On that note, let's hope the reveal of the 2022 STi does not disappoint like the WRX does because that GR Corolla looks pretty good too. Love that red belts give you +5 HP
Personally,I'm not really hung up on the appearance of a car, whether it has chrome, black plastic or not. And I need to focus my attention on the drive,so I'm not a big fan of manual transmissions. My primary concern is that the car *WORKS!* If you're satisfied with the car you have, then you don't necessarily need to get a new one right away, particularly when your budget is tight. If I'm in the market for a WRX,then I may be inclined to get a new one,but if I want a Corvette, then I'll get the C7 generation, because it has that 'old-school,' GT car feel. In the end,IMO,it's up to the individual. If you're satisfied with your WRX,then keep it, but if you're hankering for something new,and if you can afford it,then go get it,don't live with regretting the things you didn't do when you had the chance. #YouDoYou.
When Subaru revealed the redesign, I literally went and located my 2021 WRX Limited and snatched it up. Looking forward to seeing how they update the rear bumper styling in time, then will reconsider. Great video Joe, love your reviews. Nice STI too!
My girl made a point about the Fender flares, she told me not to color match because it looks like a race car with the black, so I bought the silicone black gloss, and it looks amazing and I get what she was saying. I've upgraded a lot of the parts to Sti, and it drives amazing, and when I'm done it will blow a Sti out of the water.
The new cars are pretty nice looking, but I’m keeping my 06 STi for as long as I can. Just too much to love about the car. Got her up to 385 crank hp, going to start looking into building the motor and then jumping to 500 whp.
I went with 2021 wrx. It’s insanely hard to find a new sti. I can’t get over the looks of the wrx. I don’t know what the designers were thinking with that. A die hard fan such as a myself can’t get over it
Great review like always. To be honest I am staying with my 2017 Subaru STI. I love driving my STI. Only issues is when I’m the red light the mustang and BMW M3 harass you. Lol I guess it come with the territory.
This WRX is good to go, Joe!!! Nice lil fleet update for us on this cool cool Sunday!!! I'm digging it!!! All the best to you and Lori!!! Keep on grinding!!! On throttle tiiiiiiiime!!!
I wouldn’t spend money on the new off-road 2022 WRTrex. Hopefully (but I doubt it) Subaru learned from the backlash generated by the WRTrex & won’t screw up the STi … I didn’t believe that when I said it, the 2022 STi is doomed 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have a 2019 WRX Limited Manual that I'll be keeping. For me it's the perfect car. Yes it stops pulling at 4500 RPM, yes it's bogs a bit in sharp corners and is a little tin-y at high RPM but the FA20 to me is a great engine (BlessRNG on my rods). I was really hoping they went over 325 WHP stock on the FA24 for WRX and over 400 WHP on the STI. We'll see on the STI but they hard shit the bed on the WHP. I get the engine is more robust, better torque curve, better power through the corner and can be tuned higher than the FA20 but it's just inexcusable not provide a big power jump with that motor and then you have the styling and it's game over for the 2022. Hope the STI looks closer to the VIZIV. They almost got the front of the car right so maybe if they go full body panels to the wheel wells and not that plastic shit it the STI will look decent with a nice WHP jump.
Honestly I'd never sell a type ra model. It really reminds me of the sti that ran on the island of man. It's value will only go up over time as it's numbers are limited already.
I've been offered crazy money for my '19 STI and it's been tempting but I think I'll hang on to it for a bit. I mean, I waited for years for this car and how could I betray her? :)
Don't get rid of it, especially with the new model deign not being the most favored. People will start to savor the older designs and even ones not too far off from it.
Sold my 19 STi for the new Acura TLX Type S, but man seeing your Type RA makes me miss my old Subaru 😪 You should definitely get a catback to hear that rumble more!
I'm definitely holding on to my VA. Gonna have to see how the new STI looks as well as your input and "On Throttle" action to see if I wanna add it to my driveway 🙂👍
I have been trying to make this exact decision myself. I work at Subaru and am beating myself for not buying an STI while I could. With the pricing now though I cant justify a used one for more than a new haha. I put an order in on the new wrx and plan to drive it until the next STI comes out. I personally love the ride of the other re-desighned subarus in the past few years so I am excited to see how this compares.
I remember the current model got so much hate when it was revealed. Fast forward 6 years and my 2021 STI is worth more now than when I bought it. Go figure.
Wow Joe 707k subs same horsepower as dodge hellcat and the Jeep Trackhawk lol....continue give us good wholesome vehicle reviews mile by mile,we're all buckled up and ready to take this journey with you Mrs Raiti behind the camera."on throttle"
When they released the Final Edition STI, that pretty much says the WRX STI will never be the same again. I have my ‘16’ STI and waiting for the new Z Proto. Here’s hoping I can have both in the garage.
I just bought a rally blue 2021 WRX STI over the weekend. Certified pre-owned by Subaru with on 5k miles. Got it for 42,400 out the door. In this market I feel really lucky I managed to get one with this low miles at that price. Really don’t like the next gen, so I had to get the current gen! Love your video!
Subaru used or not will ALWAYS hold it's value, as long as you maintain it and take proper car of it no matter the miles the car will always hold its value damn near what you paid and will most likely increase especially with the used market and certain models like the hawkeye, blobeye, bug, and the 2014 hatchbacks.
I was waiting for 2022 but I didn’t like the plastic over the wheels so I got me the 2021 premium deep pearl blue , automatic. Yeah that’s right automatic 😁😁
Nice review on your RA !!! If possible can you do a full review on your camaro ? I saw when you first got it fresh off the trailer, but I don't believe you made a full review of your baby !!!!
Happy New Year, Joe. I still have my base model WRX 2017. I'm in a sweet spot because I'm going g to wait for the new STI. Great videos as always. Stay safe brother.
Had a 2017 wrx. Now I have 2020 STi. I'm 80% sure I'm keeping my STi for a while. Gotta see the performance for the 2022 sti to see if they can change my mind. Gotta say, your STi look Hella clean👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for the video. I always love watching your STi RA on video and it especially looks great in the sun in this video. As for me, I'm still very happy with my "Stink Eye" 2014 STi. I bought it brand new when the new generation 2015 STi came out and I got a great deal on it because all of the local Subaru dealers were looking to get rid of the Stink Eyes to make room for the Raptor Eyes. I still love the look of mine, especially the rear fender flares. They bulge out more suddenly compared to on the later generations of STis that have a smoother rear fender flare look. I have always loved the look of 1980s era panel flares on cars like E30 M3s and Quattros and the rear fenders of Stink Eye STis kind of come closer to that look compared to later model STis. I have my hopes up for the next generation STi but I highly doubt that I'll get rid of my Stink Eye for one. I love my car too much to get rid of it. Also, and this is something that the new STi won't have over my car, my car is 100% paid for! Please keep up the great work - I love your videos!
If you can find one in good condition definitely , Wow , nice Type RA , ✌🏼Actually my friend WRX is VA1 , STI is VA2 . Owner 17 STI, 15 BRZ, and 03 WRX wagon
Hey Joe and Lori for bringing one of America most iconic sedan. I think it's cool that you actually have a Sabaru (especially that color combo and that you show it). Now I'm have a bit of mixed emotions for the new one. I don't know why, but it just looks like a sharper and needed refresh version of the previous generation (plus all of that plastic like if it was a Rav-4 and same rear light of the 2022 Sabaru BRZ (aka Toyota 86). I prefer this generation, but what do you think about the new Sabaru WRX or what is your other favorite sport sedan. Edit: Lol I can't believe you said Interwebs
I'm holding on to my 2018 STi limited tight! I recently changed jobs to one where I drive a company car for work and personal use as much as I want so my STi is going to become more of a project/hobby car that I can have some fun with. Will get a built short block with forged internals and an E85 kit (E85 sensor, upgraded injectors, upgraded fuel pump, upgraded fuel manifold, etc.) along with an upgraded downpipe that I already have, equal length headers, upgraded air intake, FMIC. Not looking for huge HP but something getting closer to 500WHP give or take.
I will keep my performance modified 2015 model that has power levels equivalent to an OEM STI and give a hard pass on the 2022. I might consider and that is a big might the 2023 STI. Only if it loses the cheap black plastic fender flares and protruding faux rear diffuser and there is a significant power and torque upgrade over the present EJ. And the jury is still out for me on that oversized infotainment screen that is likely going to find its way into the STI. A reportedly sport performance driving car even if it is a reasonably priced one shouldn't have a video game console erupting out of the dash. Eyes should be focussed on the road and ears enjoying the pure unadulterated sound of the engine and exhaust. Just saying and to each their own.
If the used market wasn't so jacked up right now I'd prefer the last generation just for styling alone. But to pay a similar price as new, might as well get new one with the improvements.
The used market is popping with these cars and they hold their values well. I imagine both used and new will be marked up like crazy

I don’t care how many head gaskets o have to replace. I’ll never get rid of my 21 sti. Long live the EJ!
You are not alone Chris!
Keeping my tuned MY15 WRX. Still reliable never had an issue with it. If I was ro upgrade I'd wait for the new STI.
I would put flames decal on the doors , skulls decal on the hood and 22 forgiato rims
This WRX is good to go, Joe!!! Nice lil fleet update for us on this cool cool Sunday!!! I'm digging it!!! All the best to you and Lori!!! Keep on grinding!!! On throttle tiiiiiiiime!!!
Thanks my friend for taking the ride with me!
It’s going to be very interesting for sure
@@RaitisRides very indeed
2015-2021 so much better looking! After all the cars you’ve driven and the ones you own which is your favorite go to now?
Love the content. I bought my 2015 wrx limited new and remember paying $26k. After putting 78k miles it's still running great.
Stock or modded?
@@xil3ntkha0s FBO since 36k after the warranty went up. Jpipe-intake-catback-egr/tvg and Ron Etuned.
Honestly I'd never sell a type ra model. It really reminds me of the sti that ran on the island of man. It's value will only go up over time as it's numbers are limited already.
I am right there with you!
keeping my 2019 WRX for sure
Smart move!
Just got a 04 wrx sti blue in my dealer 90k miles, beautiful car!
I love my 2021 WRX it really makes me feel like I'm driving a rally race car.
very cool Luis!
As a current owner of 2018 wrx I am not even little interested in the new wrx. It's just not my taste
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Aleander!
Sold my 19 STi for the new Acura TLX Type S, but man seeing your Type RA makes me miss my old Subaru 😪 You should definitely get a catback to hear that rumble more!
I think you are right!
i bought a new 2021 wrx. base model. paid 28.5k KBB private sale shows up to 33k. ya I'll hold!
Good call and congrats!
highly anticipated video and perfect timing. you’re 100% correct about the used car market, especially for the STi.
Joe my favorite used car is a 2015 Subaru ForesterXT Touring which I've owned since 2016 and I love it !!
I am so glad that it is going well for you1
@@RaitisRides thanks Joe
@@richroj of course rich!
Definitely still keeping my 21’ STI
my 05 STi is a keeper. I imagine the VA chassis cars are also amazing
I miss my 06 STi!
This comment did not age well at all. Damn Subaru
I remember the current model got so much hate when it was revealed. Fast forward 6 years and my 2021 STI is worth more now than when I bought it. Go figure.
Tell me about it! Will history repeat itself?
Wow Joe 707k subs same horsepower as dodge hellcat and the Jeep Trackhawk lol....continue give us good wholesome vehicle reviews mile by mile,we're all buckled up and ready to take this journey with you Mrs Raiti behind the camera."on throttle"
When they released the Final Edition STI, that pretty much says the WRX STI will never be the same again. I have my ‘16’ STI and waiting for the new Z Proto. Here’s hoping I can have both in the garage.
i think i will keep my paid off 18 wrx.
Now that sounds like a smart plan!
I am so glad that you found the right one for you Marco!
@@RaitisRides thanks to you my friend 😁 I pay attention to your reviews 😉
That rear end is absolutely 💯 amazing 👏 🙌
I agree this generation looks so much cleaner. Well who knows, maybe the wheel cladding will grow on us.
We will see how it pans out!
I would not get rid of that car that’s a beautiful perfect car Thank you for sharing your car
Nice review on your RA !!! If possible can you do a full review on your camaro ? I saw when you first got it fresh off the trailer, but I don't believe you made a full review of your baby !!!!
Will do Luis! Stay tuned!
Happy New Year, Joe. I still have my base model WRX 2017. I'm in a sweet spot because I'm going g to wait for the new STI. Great videos as always. Stay safe brother.
This should be a live Q and A!
That sounds like a great idea!
Great work on the Camera Lori And this was Another Great Review Joe On this Subaru W brand Awesome Always Blessed to Have you 🙏
Thank you so much for being part of the Raiti's Rides family!
Thanks brother!
That is so awesome man! Fingers crossed for the future!
“So if your ready! I’m ready! It’s time to go on throttle! “
I miss my 21 STI 😭😭
Why did you get rid of it?
@@RaitisRides needed the money to buy a house. Otherwise I would’ve not sold it.
If you can find one in good condition definitely , Wow , nice Type RA , ✌🏼Actually my friend WRX is VA1 , STI is VA2 . Owner 17 STI, 15 BRZ, and 03 WRX wagon
HUH? How do you figure?
Hey Michael! Thanks for letting us share my Type RA with you! I think you are right!
You wrote Sabaru THREE times. 😬
@@ANSWERTHECALLOFJESUSCHRIST yeah I know 😅
Sucks growing up in an age where almost every decent car is unaffordable
Older gens are always better, a clean GC WRX is gonna cost a lot these days
This is so very true!
To be honest, I do like more this model than the new one. 👍
I can totally understand Rafael!
I’m thinking you don’t eat twinkies in your own cars, Joe. 🤣
LOL You are hilarious Tom!
Lol!
Sounds like a plan!
Used STI all day, everyday!!!!
You are so very right about that!
If the used market wasn't so jacked up right now I'd prefer the last generation just for styling alone. But to pay a similar price as new, might as well get new one with the improvements.
This is a very good point!
The 2022 wrx is far better then the 2020 STI I traded in for it.Only zonk is the Recaro seats and the brembo brakes 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for you r thoughts on this one.
Love Joe Raitis enthusiasm!
Thanks for letting me share my car passion with you!
