One scene, for me, really shows the difference between the 2 movies. When Wonder Woman's group reach No Man's Land, and Steve Trevor tells her of the place's name and that no man can cross it. WW, making no reference to her gender, just got on and fought. CM would've said "No man can cross it, but a woman can" or something to that effect.
@@ShadowSonic2 Not really. She's supposed to be emotional since they keep saying she shows too much emotion. She just has that same blank face on or a half smirk because strong women don't cry or laugh. You can also see scenes where normally characters would be doing expressive faces after hearing something shocking, but not captain marvel. She's too badass for us.
Wonder Woman has been a cultural icon for the better part of a century. Her stories are some of the best and most legendary that comics have to offer. It’s sad that people think she should be compared to Captain Marvel, who literally no one cared about a little over a year ago.
Exactly Ms. Marvel was not a well known character except when her powers were stripped by Rouge. And until recently in her comics shes isnt a well liked character.
Well, no one knew the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was such a great movie it can easily be compared to the best movies of the last decade. My point? How well known a character is has little to do with how good the movie is.
Captain Marvel was 100% just a stepping stool into Endgame. I'm very much not a fan of D.C, and I prefer Marvel by miles, but I'm not afraid to say Wonder Woman is far better.

Captain marvel(2018) was a BIG SPIT in the face for readers of the comic books and the MCU. Captain Marvel in Avengers Assemble animated series was way better. The episode had Captain Marvels arcs going from instinctual independence to depending on a team when she needs it. Yeah shes a showoff but it doesn't DOWNPLAY or TALK-DOWN the avengers and kree. SHE DOSN'T NEED PROVE THAT SHE IS THE STRONGEST. She gets the job done and gains each others respect through different methods that benefit the mission. HER EMPOWERMENT ISN'T BEING A FEMALE, IT'S PUTTING THE SAFTEY OF OTHERS BEFORE HERSELF then her ego. But Captain Marvel 2018 is a litteral walking propaganda. Having the stories and characters bend over for captain marvel makes it uninteresting and half-assed bullocks. A animated kids show on Disney XD with probably half the budget of Captain Marvels (2018) has better female empowerment than Captain Marvel (2018). And they said animations for kids.
While I was agreeing with most of your points in this video, I must disagree on one. I thought WW’s soundtrack was wonderful, very distinct and most importantly, fit the heroine’s emotional journey. Can’t recall a single tune from Captain Marvel’s score. And kudos to the WW team for relying on a strong score rather than in your face 90s pop songs to prop up a protagonist.

The WW theme is actually one of my favourite in a superhero movie and matches well against the other strong DC themes. DC in general smashes it on the soundtrack part of things
when i watch wonder woman i felt included and uplifted because thats just who wonder woman is. She uplifts everyone around her. Captain marvel on the other hand...i felt like she is being condescending and so full of herself.
Wonder Woman elevates strong women far effectively than the obvious 'try hard' reassurances of Captain Marvel. Humilty is true strength. Smugness is not.

+KJ Beast To be fair, the Batwoman comics were excellent when DC rebooted her. I think the Batwoman on CW is kind of an experiment. It's the only series in the Arrowverse that's gone Full SJW, which is even worse than Full Retard. The ratings have reflected that, so far. So, I see Berlanti either changing writing teams on Batwoman, or it will be cancelled right after the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Great video! Captain marvel was probably the first marvel movie I had absolutely zero interest in after watching the trailer, and that was before all the 'this movie is not for white men' garbage. overall i think brie is a better actress, i mean she was amazing in Room. But i do feel like she didn't play captain marvel with nearly as much heart. gal, on the other hand, is still rather new to acting, and sometimes it can be a little wooden, but she played ww with so much heart and absolutely owned the role.

The seriousness and drama in WW was genuine. Marvel cracked so many jokes along with sarcastic dialogues that I just could not take her seriously even when she had to act in a more serious manner.

Captain Marvel is my least favorite marvel movie (and in my opinion doesn't even feel like a marvel movie) , but Wonder Woman is (in my opinion) is the best DCEU movie as (as far as the writing goes)
Agreed. even taking other superhero films into account. I at least find BvS, The Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine entertaining at least. The only ones I would say are worse would be possibly Justice League and Suicide Squad and even then its close.
What i really like about Alita over Captain Marvel is that, Alita didn't need to be told by her friends and family how badass and strong she was, she learned that for herself. She discovered her strength in her own time, it wasn't fed to her. She had to grow before she learned her purpose and her movie does that very well.

WW was better. It came from a movie universe that was badly well known but succeeded because Gal Gadot was amazing and was better overall. WW learns to use her powers and becomes a better person CM was full of politics. She doesn’t learn to become a better person and hero and is overhyped before the movie. The pace was slow and the politics is in your face and ridiculous. The Gender swapping of Mar-Vell and the storyline for the Skrulls were messed up. CM was full of retcons and she is arrogant and destroys character development. The movie succeeded because it was a lead in to Endgame and because it was a Marvel Movie
What do you mean wonder women I felt she was bland as a character literally Superman clone, actress was good, great casting but the way they wrote her. She was just too perfect, smart, always looking stunning, too good and way less relatable. Not to mention, she was insanely strong and had easy wins in battle except maybe the last..but even then Ares was not to be taken so lightly She was also one of the best fighters in the Amazon. Mary Sue....by god you guys don't even know what one is. Look at Wonder Women.

Disagree that the action was unmemorable in Wonder Woman - I agree the third act was bleh, but No Man's Land and the village sequence following it, plus don't forget the beach sequence on Themyscira are gorgeously shot and choreographed. Otherwise, great insight, and loved the Wonder Woman soundtrack throughout the background of the video lol

They should write an interesting character who happens to be strong and not a character who you should take an interest in because she is strong. Characterization is an important part of storytelling. Interesting characters make you want to see them again, by watching the movie a second time. If you mess that up, the whole thing falls apart. Wonder Woman got the interesting character going for it that it helps to save the movie from the flop at the end, where as Captain Marvel is just a complete bore. Also, even as a "feminist" movie, it completely fails. What they are marketing is the old masculine ideal: strong, no emotion, no flaw. That is not what feminism is about. Feminism is not about becoming men. It is about becoming strong women. It is so sad to see that strong women have now become such a stereotype that they forget that strength can come in many other form than physical strength and abrasive attitude, and having to break out of a bad situation by themselves without asking for help to the point that the "strong women" sort of feels the same in every movie with them. What about kindness, ability to forgive, etc. And it's not a good thing to teach young girls. Independence is a good thing sure, but sometimes, people need help and support from those around them as well, especially in situations where they are emotionally compromised or when it's out of their control.
This was very well written and scripted that it did not feel like a half hour video. I felt entertained and never did it feel repetitive or boring. I am so glad I found such a quality TH-cam channel, I don’t know how you only have 40k subs but I hope you get big soon.

Changes nothing to the overall plot since CM should have been back on Earth by now anyway.... 2nd scene with Captain Marvel. the "you have me this time" argument as seen in the trailers. Tracking down Thanos (next scene) didn't require her. Fighting Thanos (the scene after that) didn't require her. The fix: Either get rid of her. Literally no loss. Or keep her. The movie still works with this scene (unlike above). Just that it would have been _better_ without the bigshot saying "I can win this on my own." 3rd scene with Captain Marvel. Hologram interview. This one I have no complaints over. 4th scene with Captain Marvel. She flys in and effortlessly one-shots Thanos's mothership. WAY too over powered of a move. If she can do that to Thanos's ship, why not Thanos himself? Of course she is immediately nerfed when fighting Thanos.... so another continuity error. The fix: Nova Corps again. instead of an overpowered attack by a single entity, we get an epic space battle. 5th scene with Captain Marvel. She helps Spiderman. Her... and every other female character. At the exact same location at the exact same time. The mandatory "empowering female" scene. The fix: treat females as *equals.* Not as children needing to be pandered to. 6th scene with Captain Marvel. She fights with Thanos and (at least briefly) stands toe-to-toe with him. The problem is the OP move she showed just moments before. Why can't she show that much strength now??? The fix: Fixing the above mentioned 4th scene will fix this.
K0A1a ..yep exactly what I wanted to say. I started watching and he just nailed point after point after point with the movie clips, then I checked the time bar, and was like crap it's been 30 min! Then I was hit with (a few) of the 'strong female leads' montage (boom boom boom ...)that I had to rewind twice because the impact was amazing and caught me totally off guard.
Pretty damning review of Captain Marvel and I disagree with none of it. You're absolutely spot on with everything you say here about that film. Especially how it taints what is also my favourite MCU film, The Winter Soldier. Box office and Critic reviews keep trying to tell me that CM was better than WW but it's all nonsense.
In my opinion: Wonder Woman is a movie with depth and subtly, where the main character is a complex, strong woman who is known to be bisexual. I am fairly certain Infinity War and End Game hype helped those numbers dramatically, plus having Sam Jackson in there as well. If you take those factors away I am certain it would not have reached the levels it did.

Wonder Woman is flawed, but I can't deny that it was incredibly moving to me because the character was a genuine hero in the movie. She wasn't some agent doing missions like in the MCU or a tortured soul struggling with their heroic identity like Superman/Batman in their movies; she was a genuine superhero who acted mainly to save other people and fight evil. Captain Marvel did not move me in the slightest, and even though it was definitely enjoyable, both the main character and the movie are as bland as they come (the fact that Alita is rated lower than Captain Marvel by critics is criminal btw.)

Great video and I agree with almost every criticism of both films, but I have to defend the "No-Man's-Land" action scene in Wonder Woman. It was wonderful, from the moment she takes her cloak off and decides to act until she deals with the sniper in the church tower. I can still put that scene on and feel the excitement and power of it, and the character. Her use of the magic lasso, the flipping of the armored car, smashing through the window, etc. are all well done. I will happily agree that the later scenes, especially the fight with Ares, are not up to the level of these first scenes, though.
The amnesia angle in Captain Marvel didn't work because it never affected her, it just changed who she was punching, she was the same person before as she was after. Danvers didn't have a character arc in any way.
I don't love Captain Marvel, BUT IT IS CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE MONSTROUS BORE THAT IS WONDER WOMAN! I remember going to see it for my birthday, I thought "Maybe This will open a new door for DC films!" But, Nope! Wonder Woman was a feminist movie but it didn't drag any other gender down. The problem with Captain Marvel was it was over feministic movie, even the character.The movie was like"guys are under my shoe." The movie (captain Marvel) misinterpreted feminism. Feminism doesn't mean that woman are greater than men or anyone,it means that the women are equal to men and everyone. Though I'm MCU fan, but have to say that wonder woman, the movie and the character is closest to feminism. Wonder Woman is a demi-god, daughter of Zeus,the king of gods. She is more experienced and better than other female superheroes.
Most of my female friends including my gf love WW, and they shit on CM everytime they have the opportunity or whenever CM is mentioned. WW is a flawed goddess, but that is the point; gods/goddesses can be as flawed as we humans. Hell even Thor, Odin, and Loki were also flawed gods, but they at least have the dignity to face their mistakes. CM is just a disappointment that should never be compared to any other characters.

Marvel initially didn't want to make a female superhero movie because they thought it will not work. Only after Wonder Woman success they thought of it. From that I think Marvel is just trying to catchup with DC in this case. And trying to satisfy fans who were demanding a female superhero movie from Marvel.
Yeah! Exactly! They can't catch up to DC by making a Female Superhero movie to try to meet up with the success of Wonder Woman. Yeah I get it DC has had some bad movies, but Wonder Woman is by far one of their best Movies; And I also thought Suicide Squad was good even though it got a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes and a lot of people disliked the movie still I thought it was good. Wonder Woman got a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and Captain Marvel got a 78% so Wonder Woman is truly a better movie from the Superhero side that a lot of people ( but not me) say that it has bad movies. Wonder Woman was the best DCEU movie and was amazing. Captain Marvel wasn’t the worst MCU movie and it’s honestly not bad. It’s mediocre but very stale and bland.
I found her character super annoying and arrogant. And I watched it twice to see if it would get better. It didn't. I also wish she wasn't in endgame. She was so useless for the endgame plot... nontheless I agree with you, it wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't great either and I had higher expectations for a marvel movie
I will join that dislike Army. Enjoyed CM. WW is still very sucky to me. Technically, WW is better - soundtrack and visuals etc, but movies are not just technical gymnastic displays. CM was a stronger story and a more relatable world and script and hero.

Wonder Woman has been a cultural icon for the better part of a century. Her stories are some of the best and most legendary that comics have to offer. It’s sad that people think she should be compared to Captain Marvel, who literally no one cared about a little over a year ago.
Exactly Ms. Marvel was not a well known character except when her powers were stripped by Rouge. And until recently in her comics shes isnt a well liked character.

Captain marvel(2018) was a BIG SPIT in the face for readers of the comic books and the MCU. Captain Marvel in Avengers Assemble animated series was way better. The episode had Captain Marvels arcs going from instinctual independence to depending on a team when she needs it. Yeah shes a showoff but it doesn't DOWNPLAY or TALK-DOWN the avengers and kree. SHE DOSN'T NEED PROVE THAT SHE IS THE STRONGEST. She gets the job done and gains each others respect through different methods that benefit the mission. HER EMPOWERMENT ISN'T BEING A FEMALE, IT'S PUTTING THE SAFTEY OF OTHERS BEFORE HERSELF then her ego. But Captain Marvel 2018 is a litteral walking propaganda. Having the stories and characters bend over for captain marvel makes it uninteresting and half-assed bullocks. A animated kids show on Disney XD with probably half the budget of Captain Marvels (2018) has better female empowerment than Captain Marvel (2018). And they said animations for kids.

While I was agreeing with most of your points in this video, I must disagree on one. I thought WW’s soundtrack was wonderful, very distinct and most importantly, fit the heroine’s emotional journey. Can’t recall a single tune from Captain Marvel’s score. And kudos to the WW team for relying on a strong score rather than in your face 90s pop songs to prop up a protagonist.

The seriousness and drama in WW was genuine.
Marvel cracked so many jokes along with sarcastic dialogues that I just could not take her seriously even when she had to act in a more serious manner.
That's because they were different styles of movies. You don't compare Jumanji to Titanic but they are both good.

What i really like about Alita over Captain Marvel is that, Alita didn't need to be told by her friends and family how badass and strong she was, she learned that for herself. She discovered her strength in her own time, it wasn't fed to her. She had to grow before she learned her purpose and her movie does that very well.

Disagree that the action was unmemorable in Wonder Woman - I agree the third act was bleh, but No Man's Land and the village sequence following it, plus don't forget the beach sequence on Themyscira are gorgeously shot and choreographed. Otherwise, great insight, and loved the Wonder Woman soundtrack throughout the background of the video lol
But......that is exactly what he said in the video o.0 minus the statment that in his view slowmotions were overused in battles and made him enjoy them less. + He never said it was unmemorable, only "it's good" but wasn't giving him enought emotional hype.
They should write an interesting character who happens to be strong and not a character who you should take an interest in because she is strong. Characterization is an important part of storytelling. Interesting characters make you want to see them again, by watching the movie a second time. If you mess that up, the whole thing falls apart. Wonder Woman got the interesting character going for it that it helps to save the movie from the flop at the end, where as Captain Marvel is just a complete bore.
Also, even as a "feminist" movie, it completely fails. What they are marketing is the old masculine ideal: strong, no emotion, no flaw. That is not what feminism is about. Feminism is not about becoming men. It is about becoming strong women.
It is so sad to see that strong women have now become such a stereotype that they forget that strength can come in many other form than physical strength and abrasive attitude, and having to break out of a bad situation by themselves without asking for help to the point that the "strong women" sort of feels the same in every movie with them. What about kindness, ability to forgive, etc. And it's not a good thing to teach young girls. Independence is a good thing sure, but sometimes, people need help and support from those around them as well, especially in situations where they are emotionally compromised or when it's out of their control.
All the reasons you stated why Captain Marvel was bad is exactly why I'm genuinely happy she had such a minor role in Endgame

1st scene with Captain Marvel.
She appears in deep space, Dues Ex Machina style, and saves Iron Man.
She then uses unexplained light-speed travel powers to carry (yes, carry) the ship back to Earth.
AND.... why is she in deep space when at the end of Infinity Wars Pt.1 she was being called back to earth???? Her being there causes problems.
The fix: Replace her in that scene with *Nova Corps*
They are an established group of characters.
They have reason to be in deep space.
They have reason to track down that specific ship (They owe Peter Quill a favor)
and getting back to Earth makes sense since they will be using their normal FTL tech.
Changes nothing to the overall plot since CM should have been back on Earth by now anyway....
2nd scene with Captain Marvel.
the "you have me this time" argument as seen in the trailers.
Tracking down Thanos (next scene) didn't require her.
Fighting Thanos (the scene after that) didn't require her.
The fix:
Either get rid of her. Literally no loss.
Or keep her. The movie still works with this scene (unlike above). Just that it would have been _better_ without the bigshot saying "I can win this on my own."
3rd scene with Captain Marvel.

4th scene with Captain Marvel.
She flys in and effortlessly one-shots Thanos's mothership.
WAY too over powered of a move.
If she can do that to Thanos's ship, why not Thanos himself?
Of course she is immediately nerfed when fighting Thanos.... so another continuity error.
The fix: Nova Corps again.
instead of an overpowered attack by a single entity, we get an epic space battle.
5th scene with Captain Marvel.
She helps Spiderman.
Her... and every other female character. At the exact same location at the exact same time.
The mandatory "empowering female" scene.
The fix: treat females as *equals.* Not as children needing to be pandered to.
6th scene with Captain Marvel.
She fights with Thanos and (at least briefly) stands toe-to-toe with him.
The problem is the OP move she showed just moments before. Why can't she show that much strength now???

Fixing the above mentioned 4th scene will fix this.

..yep exactly what I wanted to say. I started watching and he just nailed point after point after point with the movie clips, then I checked the time bar, and was like crap it's been 30 min! Then I was hit with (a few) of the 'strong female leads' montage (boom boom boom ...)that I had to rewind twice because the impact was amazing and caught me totally off guard.

I've watched Wonder Woman multiple times and don't grow tired of it. It's very re-watchable in my opinion.
I agree with every single thing you said. I can not comprehend how Captain Marvel made 1 freaking billion. But I don't fully blame Marvel. It was the directors and writers. But it was Marvel's fault for green lighting it.
I am fairly certain Infinity War and End Game hype helped those numbers dramatically, plus having Sam Jackson in there as well. If you take those factors away I am certain it would not have reached the levels it did.

Wonder Woman is flawed, but I can't deny that it was incredibly moving to me because the character was a genuine hero in the movie. She wasn't some agent doing missions like in the MCU or a tortured soul struggling with their heroic identity like Superman/Batman in their movies; she was a genuine superhero who acted mainly to save other people and fight evil.
Captain Marvel did not move me in the slightest, and even though it was definitely enjoyable, both the main character and the movie are as bland as they come (the fact that Alita is rated lower than Captain Marvel by critics is criminal btw.)

Great video and I agree with almost every criticism of both films, but I have to defend the "No-Man's-Land" action scene in Wonder Woman. It was wonderful, from the moment she takes her cloak off and decides to act until she deals with the sniper in the church tower. I can still put that scene on and feel the excitement and power of it, and the character. Her use of the magic lasso, the flipping of the armored car, smashing through the window, etc. are all well done. I will happily agree that the later scenes, especially the fight with Ares, are not up to the level of these first scenes, though.

The amnesia angle in Captain Marvel didn't work because it never affected her, it just changed who she was punching, she was the same person before as she was after. Danvers didn't have a character arc in any way.
Neither did Indiana Jones in all four of his movies or Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy. Forrest Gump. Rocky Balboa in Rocky...

I don't love Captain Marvel, BUT IT IS CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE MONSTROUS BORE THAT IS WONDER WOMAN! I remember going to see it for my birthday, I thought "Maybe This will open a new door for DC films!" But, Nope! It was such a big disappointment and a massive waste of my time, I never even wanted to see it in the first place! I just did it for the hype!

When the "I'm Just A Girl" song played at the end of Captain Marvel it was so jarring and out of place, it took me right out of the movie.
Most of my female friends including my gf love WW, and they shit on CM everytime they have the opportunity or whenever CM is mentioned. WW is a flawed goddess, but that is the point; gods/goddesses can be as flawed as we humans. Hell even Thor, Odin, and Loki were also flawed gods, but they at least have the dignity to face their mistakes. CM is just a disappointment that should never be compared to any other characters.

Marvel initially didn't want to make a female superhero movie because they thought it will not work. Only after Wonder Woman success they thought of it.
From that I think Marvel is just trying to catchup with DC in this case. And trying to satisfy fans who were demanding a female superhero movie from Marvel.
Yeah! Exactly! They can't catch up to DC by making a Female Superhero movie to try to meet up with the success of Wonder Woman. Yeah I get it DC has had some bad movies, but Wonder Woman is by far one of their best Movies; And I also thought Suicide Squad was good even though it got a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes and a lot of people disliked the movie still I thought it was good. Wonder Woman got a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and Captain Marvel got a 78% so Wonder Woman is truly a better movie from the Superhero side that a lot of people ( but not me) say that it has bad movies. Wonder Woman is superior over Captain Marvel.

Wonder Woman was the best DCEU movie and was amazing. Captain Marvel wasn’t the worst MCU movie and it’s honestly not bad. It’s mediocre but very stale and bland.
I found her character super annoying and arrogant. And I watched it twice to see if it would get better. It didn't. I also wish she wasn't in endgame. She was so useless for the endgame plot... nontheless I agree with you, it wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't great either and I had higher expectations for a marvel movie

I will join that dislike Army. Enjoyed CM. WW is still very sucky to me. Technically, WW is better - soundtrack and visuals etc, but movies are not just technical gymnastic displays. CM was a stronger story and a more relatable world and script and hero.
