- Jumanji is a classic movie released in the year 1995. The movie is centered around a supernatural board game which unleashes dangerous wildlife each time the participants take their turns.
Although the movie was pretty self-contained it concluded on a potential cliffhanger.
22 years later it finally gets a sequel in the form of Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle. But as always it leaves the inevitable question, which movie is superior?

Jumanj i 2 is a Great sequel But i would not call it a Sequel but Alt, yes the narrative is good But Jumanji 1 is way better, nothing can touch Robin Williams performance and the magic he brings to the film, the film is magic and Bonnie Hunt, the officer, the dad, the children do awesome Acting in the film as well

The movie was decent and a little funny. But the jungle was so disappointing. This would have worked better as a horror movie. The jungle we hear about in the original is like a terrible frightening hellscape. Here it's just like a fun romp with no fear to it

I think it may have been if they had just remade the original with modern movie technology and in 3D. Just imagining the 1st but up to date and in 3D makes me hate whoever thought to make the "sequel" smh.

Yes! A new video!(I was running out of videos to binge on your channel) When I first saw Jumanji 2, I thought it was pretty good and stick by that. But after seeing the original again, I definitely see where your criticisms lie. I also wanted to thank you for replying to my comment on the Justice league vs the avengers. I love the original Jumanji, it is definitely one of my childhood favorites
I honestly refer the original as it seems more intimidating, the sequel is more comedic whereas the original is shocking.
The first movie made the jungle of Jumanji seem so dark, scary and threatening, whereas the sequel... just feel normal. :(
@Hewy Toonmore Personally I really like the new Jumanji movies. I know theyre not for everyone and i know compared to the original theyre greatly inferior. But as stand alone movies i like them just fine. The Next Level especially since it helped as a pallet clenser after i saw Rise of Skywalker. I know that sounds like a back handed compliment but i really mean what i say when i say that compared to Rise of Skywalker, the Jumaniji reboot films just had more life to them. After I saw Rise of Skywalker i felt so empty inside, so when i saw Jumanji Next Level with my parents, it helped lift my spirits. And upon second viewing i found myself actually liking it more. It really helps that my second viewing was one of the last films i saw in theaters with a group friends before the pandemic happened so it kinda has a sentimental place in my heart. Yes these movie are far from perfect, but i still liked them regarldess.

Exactly the way Alan described the jungle and the way the animals looked when they came out made it seem like they were not real animals but interpretations that the game gave you making them extremely terrifying like giant man eating vines, giant mosquitos and huge freaking spiders but the new movie just felt to real and to boring.
The hunter that comes out of the board game is played by the same actor who plays Alan's father. I just thought that was interesting

I think that's kind of a Peter Pan thing. As in, the actor who usually plays Mr Darling also plays Captain Hook. This was how they had it in the original disney film, in the play and also in the 2003 remake.

The first one was definitely better. Better story, better characters, character development, a great soundtrack and even some heartwarming moments. All the second film had going for it was action, explosions, and penis jokes. You know, the same typical crap from comedy films with no substance going for it.

I completely agree with everything, Jumanji is supposed to be hell, it's supposed to be exaggerated. Jumanji is supposed to target its players fears, remember the game is evil. In the second movie, it just seems mindless.

I think Jumanji is more of a cult classic film more than a classic film in of itself, but it doesn't mean that it's a bad movie. I don't love it as much as I used to; Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle is a movie that surprised me that it even got good reviews (I was expecting another Ghostbusters 2016 scenario) at all. However me and my family went to see it in the theaters and was pleasantly surprised by a good chunk of the film. It wasn't my favorite movie of the year (I'm not even sure I'd call it a good solid in of itself) but I would recommend JWTJ if you're looking for a enjoyable flick and a good videogame movie.

Sorry, but I'm not going to watch it when it comes out. No disrespect to your opinion by any means, but I am SICK of the Ghostbusters 2016 hatred (from the internet in general). Honestly, I felt it was okay. Not as good as the original, (and honestly it was probably for the best that it bombed) but I liked SOME things in it!
But, if you hate it, that's fine. I'm not trying to stop you from making the video, I just feel that the complaints against the film will be the same ones I've heard from others. If they're not, then that's great! I just have no interest in hearing them, mainly because I've witnessed enough of the backlash already.

My guess, regarding Jumanji's brutal treatment of Allen, is that the board game knew he would win. It was probably trying to get rid of him via the curses. That's all I can say.
Correct me if I’m wrong but when this movie was made it was a seperate thing to the original so it makes sense that they would make it lighter in tone
Finally! Someone likes the original jumanji. Believe it or not. Jumanji 2017 is just one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched, my sister said that I don’t have “taste” in movies. But. I hate jumanji 2017. Respect my opinion

I always said the original jumanji is the shit n after watching the new 1..... I was right. The one thing that bug me about the new 1 was they had 3 lives each. As for the original there was no retry that made everything that much more scary. Plus in the book that it's base off Allen take the bullet but luckily for him his elephant made it to the finish line n rest it self just like in the movie.

Though I get your point in that it is a big disconnect from the original in terms of tone and concept, the new film is still a good movie for what it is trying to do.
I wouldn't call it a sequel as more of a soft reboot-ish type. I mean it's a comedy action film to its fullest.
The first one is a whole other genre. It seems the biggest problem with the "sequel" is its association with the name "Jumanji".

I know it's a "sequel", but it's a soft reboot in a way. It's loosely connected.
I think the best term to describe the film is a standalone sequel. It's set within the same universe as the original film, but lacks the narrative connection that a conventional sequel normally has.

In regards to your question about my thoughts on the villain in Thor Ragnarok. I thought she was a good villain. Going by the trailer I was afraid that she would be hamming it up and acting WAY over the top. But thankfully she was good. She was threatening and cruel.
She wasn't as good as Michael Keaton in Homecoming but she is a much bigger improvement over the other villains in the MCU. The BEST being Killmonger in Black Panther.

In the trailers Ultron looked AMAZING! But when the movie came out he started out intimidating but then he turned into a joke towards the last 30 minutes of the movie which pretty much destroyed his character for me. Marvel's overabundance of jokes ruined what could have been a truly awesome villain.

The Jumanji 90s cartoon is a better sequal to jumanji then the latest movie.
Both are good movies, but feel like they have different genres. The first is a family film while the second is an action comedy, each movie’s pros and cons make sense with the genres they fall into.
Actually the only reference to the original was the camp with the original name of the kid trapped in Jumanji carved in a log

The only genuine benefit the new "jumanji" film presented was outselling the the DC movie and Disney's "star wars" disaster. One guy even said that he and his friends only went to see the Disney movie because "jumanji" was sold out. That was hilarious.

Could you imagine a scene where as part of the game, all the characters have to go through a giant wasp nest filled with the giant wasps from the first movie. They could have some terrifying scenes with them sneaking around but being utterly surrounded by enemies and monsters they know they can’t fight

I was looking for a review like this just to see if I wasn't the only one that hated the different them of the second movie. I loved it through, however I hoped it would have provided us with a bigger thrill ride just like the first one did.

Their are actually 4 films in the series including the one coming out later on this year. Their is what was labelled a cousin film. Wrote by the same guy, but different cast and director. I am of course talking about the 2005 film ZATHURA. In the film they never mentioned the connection, but in the book Zathura it was.

One thing you could've mentioned about the original and the game, whenever a player roles. It also gave us the viewers something to ponder and guess with the clue given. Such which made it a little bit more entertaining. The sequel and sequel's sequel didn't have that, it just was a straightforward get to the next scene movie. I guess you can say there stats takes place of it, but honestly those gets shown once and by the time that trait comes into play its not much to think about.
Jumanji original is the better movie, I watched it a few times in theaters.

I think the reboots should've been something completely different. From what I've heard it's pretty alright, but it's fatal flaw is calling itself "Jumanji". The original was a high-stakes nightmare that affected others as well as the players, while the remakes only affect the main characters from what I've seen. And it's not like whatever powers that be _wouldn't_ allow it to become something more eye-catching. Zathura is arguably just that in the original book. The boys open up the game, one of them doesn't like it, and a new one mysteriously appears in the box to appeal to him. They could've taken advantage of this! What if it was a new theme altogether like DnD or an old school RPG like Ultima?
Either way, if the videogame really took after the spirit of the original board games (and Robin William's monologue), it should've been one of those where you only get one life and if you die it's game over. No tutorial level, or at least one you have to find a la Elden Ring; very vague hints and hard mode is *default* . It's a child's introduction to Skull Island for Pete's sake! Maybe throw in some real world consequences like the board game did too while you're at it!

Which is better? Simple. It is impossible to top Robin Williams, and the concept was wonderfully intriguing. The sequel just recreated it for a modern audience, and decided to be its own thing. And as a movie that builds on the original, but does it’s own thing entirely, I quite liked it.

Now I head you saying that humans being the enemies instead of animals doesn't connect to the first movie. But remember the scene at the begining where the game transformed for board game to a video game. Perhaps the game could have transformed on the inside as well.

it was sign of the times i guess with total tone change in the sequel in the MCU era, suspense and horror are a limited market nowadays. Its a different audience now. and the sequel movie even kind of showed it where the first kid getting the game didn't even played or curious enough to mess with it. Like the movie it had to change from board game to video game which its current audience understands. I guess that's why it made money....
Jumanji 2 honestly never looked interesting to begin with, so frankly, you saved me the trouble of watching it myself.

I think when the game changed from a board game to video game the jungle changed because it was on a dificulth setting as in easy, normal and hard mode because with the video game its like maybe go a little easy with the board game it starts off as your doomed from the start also theres a little less stakes as in jumanji one life is all so you have to survive jumanji welcome to the jungle three lives so you can learn from your mistakes

I still think the original is the superior film, but you forgot one important thing. The game evolved. Along with its evolution, the jungle obviously went along with it. The video game version of Jumanji gave the jungle a story filled with people instead of being a normal jungle devoid of human life.

In my opinion if they wanted to make a jumanji movie it would've been better to re make the 1st one with modern animation etc especially 3D instead of whatever the new jumanji was. I never went to see it since by seeing the previews i knew it was nothing like the 1st and like he stated i would've never knew it was even linked to the original if they didnt use the name. A remake would've been f*ing awesome. Jumanji was scary af as a child so even though it probly wouldn't be as scary now that im grown im willing to bet it would've been awesome and wayyyy better than that bs they did make. I still hold out hope for a remake of the classic definitely in 3D. Hopefully one day itll happen 😥
Given how in the sequel, Jumanji changes itself into a video game, why is it so hard to believe that the jungle within didn't change as well? Or did you just want to complain and nitpick?

This video is one of the crap content I watch on TH-cam. Although the original Jumanji is much more exciting, Jumanji 2 at least tried to replicate the original, but instead made it a comedy instead of a “horror” and could you imagine how many people left the theater paranoid and scared after watching the original, the original is very serious, and has very little comedy in it. I bet some people even got nightmares because of the original. At least Jumanji 2 had much more comedy and probably got a few laughs out of the audience.
I would disagree. It didn't try in the slightest to replicate the original. It just took the name and then changed everything else and made it a generic comedy.
And I would also disagree about the comedy. The original Jumanji had a lot of comedy throughout the movie. It just wasn't over the top cartooney with its humour like Jumanji 2 is.
Jumanji had horror, emotion AND an appropriate amount of comedy in it. You don't get any of that tone and genre variety in the sequel.
It was just a safe and uninspired sequel when compared to the ideas that the original movie had.

I’m really annoyed how many people love the new jumanji, it’s just a cliche story with the name jumanji just thrown in for a quick cash grab. Jumanji never needed a sequel it was an amazing ending. And you actually cared for the characters in the old one while couldn’t care less if these characters died. Also hilarious “poop, pops, penis haha funny “jokes like c’mon this movie treats children as if they are monkeys and can’t understand anything serious.. ugh. This is just my opinion
