    The Geforce 3050 and Radeon 6500 XT are coming out later this month, and they look to be everything I wanted. And more! And less. But are they enough to give gamers what they want?...

    0:00 - 50 tier cards

    The 3050’s are still gonna get snatched up by miners, because it has enough VRAM to work with the DAG file size for another couple of years. The 6500 XT is purely for gaming, because it can’t even handle the current size of the DAG files, and 6GB cards are going to stop working pretty soon.
    In theory, the 4GB cards running FSR can squeeze slightly better looking graphics out of lower resolution textures-so it might not last you another 3-5 years, but it might get you by for another 1-3 years, if you need to ride out the shortages and stockpile a little more money to buy whatever is available at that time.

    I don't see anyone mentioning this. Miners require 6GB of vram for any worthwhile coin. The RTX 3050 also has a 4GB model. I think this is the perfect strategy to overcome the supply issue. Not only would these cards be less of a profitable target for scalpers, but they're surely easier to manufacture in larger quantities and are useless to miners. This could turn the tide.

    • @timzy11ful
      @timzy11ful 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not true m8. for etherium yes of course but i've been mining raven just fine on my 4gb cards. They just halved the rewards so maybe not at this exact moment but there are definitely others that are worthwhile

      @@timzy11ful I have a 3060ti for gaming, but in the down time I used it to mine. I made back it's value and more in eth just running at night when I'm not gaming. I tried a ton of different configs and miners trying to get my old GTX 980 4gb to mine and I couldn't get Raven to work. There was an estimated profitability though online and it was super low.
      You may have a point though. Some algorithms rely less on total vram and instead rely on memory speed more. In that case a fast 4gb card for only $200 could actually have a great return on investment. In that case it could be actually a way better choice than a traditional beefy graphics card.
      Either way, having more options has to help. Hopefully. As long as it doesn't hurt their ability to manufacture the main line graphics cards.

      It’s true only if we assume that miners need less gpu power than gamers. The power of the individual gpu doesn’t matter, what matters is the efficiency. If for the cost and power consumption it has great performance, even if only a minuscule amount to high end cards, they’ll still be bought up by miners too.
      People who are still mining today aren’t broke students who game with their one pc at day and mine at night, they have gigantic farms of rigs upon rigs of systems. If the card is efficient for its fixed and running costs (initial price and power consumption) in relation to its performance, then miners will buy it too.

      @@humanbeing9079 right there with you. The returns are diminishing (especially in regards to the human eye and our constant approximations of clarity during perceived motion), though the algorithms will only continue to get better as time goes on. I don't anticipate our bodies will get better at perceiving detail, but the ability for software to trick us into believing a picture is more detailed (I'd say 4k base res as the upper limit for a standard monitor size) is promising

    • @devindykstra
      @devindykstra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@retiredaccount0 it's more about pixel density than actual resolution (as you touched on) on a phone screen it's really hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p (to my eyes) yet there is still a visible improvement when going from a large 4K TV to an 8K one (again, to my eyes).
      The only piece of tech I believe we truly _need_ higher resolution displays for are VR headsets, which probably need 4 times or more the number of pixels before they approach modern monitor levels of clarity.

    3:54 while I'm also not an expert on video codecs and encoding, I do think you will still have the ability to screen capture stuff because software solutions exist, and the page doesn't mention it can't do H264 encoding under 4K. But this will mean there'll be problems if a screen recording software requires H265 and hardware encoding, though this is more to the fault of the screen recorder than the card. I myself haven't had luck with hardware encoding or H265 my self, as either Vegas Pro can't open them, or playback corrupts it's self, so it's not really a concern to me if I were to get the card.

    Yeah, the Radeon does sound pretty pathetic compared to the likes of an RTX3080, but then again my previous card was a GTX 1070 which could reliably run every new game on medium settings and was more than capable to run VR titles.
    If you only want to play games and don’t care about 4K 120FPS then honestly why choose anything more expensive? It does its job and it does it fine. Nothing less, nothing more.
