As it so happens, this is pretty much the same for Saab 9-5 1997-2005 (don’t know for model years beyond). This vid was essential in allowing me to replace the broken cover on my 9-5. Many thanks Cyclone Syd!
Thank you for posting. I had to made a reparation over the small motor some year ago, unfortunately without knowing about this interesting video. It would have helped me a lot.
I use a top quality anti-seize paste when joining dissimilar metals together. It stops the corrosion that can cause the, for example, screws to snap off in the future. I really wish manufacturers would use it when assembling the vehicle in the first place. Great video!
My 2010 9-3 had started to corrode on the aluminium part and the paint was faded and flat. On stripping the unit I found the casing filled with Mazak "dust" - white particles and flakes of the stuff. I removed the worst of it using a Dremmel wire brush and then sprayed white vinegar onto the Mazak frame (a tip from a toy repair web site). The frame fizzed and bubbled for five minutes, but when it stopped and I washed off the vinegar the frame beneath was back to metal. I used a zinc primer on the mounting plate and the Mazak frame, followed by grey primer. I then sprayed the Mazak frame in silver, and the mounting plate in Alfa Nero Etna black - only 'cus that's the can I had in my shed. I'm hoping they last a bit longer than the factory finish, certainly the painted Mazak should last better. I liked the colour so much I did all the grille inserts in the bumper the same colour as they were peeling and faded. Looks great now, but I'll have to change the wiper arms next as they are showing up rusty compared to the rest of the thing (laser red sportwagon) - then the wheels need a refurb, and.....ah well, better than watching Coronation Street.
I just watched "remove the cover" part as that was what I needed, turns out that apart from 4 clips, there are 2 screws holding the cover in, I broke one of of the screw holes when removing the cover, hope it won't prevent the mounting later, do I have some different version of the cover? I have an early 2006 pre facelift version
Hi, thank you for this video. And because I like it so much, I have a question.... at the end of the video your talking about another video about the complete restauration of the mirror. I was looking for it in your excellent playlist, but I didn´t found it. Am I too blind? Thanks for helping me.
No, it's not you going mad, it's me (long gone, some might say 😂). I forgot and never made it. I've added it to my list of future vids and I'll try to get it done in the summer (better for painting in warmer weather).
Your video's are great! Could you do a video on the speaker system and what to replace it with? My radio sounds a bit too much like amplified road noise for my liking (left front completely gone, rest of the speakers distorting like all hell) thank you :-)
Hello! Your videos are very easy to understand! Thank You! Maybe You could solve my problem, passenger front window makes screeching noise when goes up or down. Only when weather is dry! Best wishes!
As Paul says it could be the rubbers. I would say more likely the guide rail has lost all it's grease. You'e gonna have to get the door casing off to get at it. I will be doing door videos later in the year if you can wait a while. In the meantime avoid using that window just in case it's a rusty cable - if it is and it snaps = big trouble.
@@CycloneCyd Thanks! Guide rail and all moving parts inside door panel been done already! Must been window rubbers then. Try to grease those. No big rush here! Would love to see door video anyway! Best wishes!
I have a 9- 3 2005 sport sedan model (B 207 ), and on the right side mirror the electric folding is not working although the rest is just fine . Do i need to buy the whole mirror or a specific part of it ? If you do know the item No it will be very helpful. Happy new year ,stay safe. Your videos are very helpful.
surprised to see the paint on the mirrors of the 2006 I just got in such bad shape. the clearcoat is totally gone and the paint is going. surprising to see as the 2005 that I had before I traded it in for the 2010 had no paint issues
I wonder if there's some sort of common wear on it that would affect the mirrors but not anything else..... a regular car wash?? I've got no other ideas
Hi! very interesting video!. My problem is that my mirrors have Alzheimer and when I fold electrically they fold a little late and I hear the motor whine even after it's folded. Would changing the motors bring back the memory and electric folding to factory specs?
I have a problem with my near side mirror it goes too far forward and will not set in the standard use position, I have taken the mirror off the car and I am down to the body as shown on your video but there does not seen to be anyway to access the motor or gear box even though I can see the torx screws(3). Is there anyway to reset the mirrors and fix this problem???
I've never actually taken a powerfold Saab 9-3 mirror apart, but am very familiar with Range Rover L322 ones from the same manufacturer. I bet it the same motor system (also used on the Mini). Take the three torx screws out to get at the motor unit. They are very fragile though and break easily. Personally I would never chose to have powerfold mirrors. More trouble than they are worth. Also, what I refer to as a "solution without a problem".
Well, you just completely forget to mention the rubber seal which runs along between the cover and the main body. Must be there to keep the crap out the mirror
Hi Sid. One question for you. I got a 2005 Saab 93 1.8t. The radiator is leaking slightly from the bottom right corner as you look the car from the front. It's definitely not a hose leak but from the actual radiator. The obvious way is to change the radiator. Would you though consider using "stop leak" products? Do you think they might clog up for example the passenger heater core and affect its performance or mess with the water pump ?
Hi Thanos. Over the years, I've had variable success with leak sealants. If it's a small weep then success is more likely. You're correct there are some engines that have very small waterways that can be blocked by sealants, but I'm not aware of the B207 being one of those, so yes, I'd give that a try in the first instance. Particularly in the current circumstances, that may do the trick and see you through till you can get a new radiator. I once ran a Rover with leak sealer for over 3 years, but looking back I think I was pushing my luck!! Q4U: I've recently lost my job at JLR and am now doubling down on my channel to grow it to provide an income. I'm thinking of doing a live stream - a 'show' - and am thinking that answering viewers questions might be a good way to do it. As a viewer, do you think this would be of interest AND would you join the stream if I did this question on the first one??
Cyclone Cyd of course it's a good idea and anything you want I am willing to help. Do you want me to send a video asking the question or ask it live in the chat?

No you can't get just the powerfold motor on it's own, so you'd need a whole mirror. You can take the powerfold system apart, my son fixed his on a Ford in about 15 minutes

It adds cost and weight to the vehicle and moreover, they don't need to. It only has to last the 3 year warranty period. After that, not their problem
