      Perfectly. Used the 3M 90 and laid the backs out perpendicular to the glass. First one went on perfectly centered thanks to the bit of practice beforehand. The second was off a bit, half a mm low maybe, as i was very confident after the first went so smoothly.

    I'd never encountered this before in years of driving. Recently the mirror on my 1 series started moving about, exactly as you described. Fearing the whole thing was about to fall off in the road, I stopped at a DIY store to buy some gaffer tape to at least secure it temporarily. Examining it more closely, I found I could just peel the mirror glass off. And now I know how to put it back on. Thanks so much!

  • @notafeminist7642
    @notafeminist7642 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    This was really easy, I did it with fake nails on my hands haha 💅 Couple of tips:
    1: if when you remove the mirror plate, the back has a lot of tabs preventing it from laying flat you need to cut into the paper to allow the tabs through before you tape it. Flip the paper over and lay the flat surface of the plate to the back of the paper. Trace with a marker and when you cut it out leave some overlap to tape to. Place it into the hole from the front and tape it, taping the glass next to it.
    2. (If you're a perfectionist like me) Keep a razor or scissors handy. When you allow the glue to become tacky and you peel the tape off, the tape will pull the adhesive with it. Cut it as you go to prevent pulling it off completely.
    I used the 3M 90. I'll come back to let you know if the mirror falls off 👍

    Why don’t they re engineer the mirror with some sort of face trim that clips onto the mirror base and overlaps the the edges of the mirror . This would better retain the mirror .

    i used to go to glass specialist and he just cut me a piece. The problem was the mirror was straight not concave

      This is a valid option, but as you say it reduces your field of view (and presumably isn't heated?)

      @@CycloneCyd no it is not heated of course

    i used gorilla glue xD, and then 3 months later someone broke my car glass and now im here trying to figure out how to replace it. The cover is off and the blinker is cracked. The only thing attached is the mechanism that makes it move. helppp

      I hit a hump back bridge at high speed in my 1966 morris Cooper S a very long time ago . My mirrors were fine but the rear side windows blew out 🫤 and the chrome headlamp rim from the drinkers side must still be in orbit somewhere .
      Many years later I was walking my dog Harley along an old disused railway just about to go under a bridge and out of nowhere a mirror glass hit me on the head 😮 .

    You'll spend more money like that than buying a replace brand new mirror glass with its plastic back side, that comes with electrical and mechanical connections (15,34£ shipped to my door). Not even considering the labor and the time involved.

    I know why mine came off, though: it smacked into a pole.

      To reattach the side view mirror I used JB Weld (KwikWeld) You want the strong stuff. It will take the hot and cold temperatures out side.

    Consider hiring a voice over artist to enhance this video, sounds a bit underwhelming , let me know if I can help
