    Just the video I needed. I picked up a 9-3 convertible with less then 40k on the clock, but a few very minor rust patches and this video has made getting at them much easier! Thanks again!

    New saab owner (new to me) and VERY new to car servicing and maintenance at any level higher than a first parade of a vehicle 😅 got my Haynes manual amd some decent tool from other stuff, but your videos are a massive help. Thank you.

      Welcome aboard! Decent tools are a must. I try to list all the tools needed within the videos. So watch carefully and note down anything you need but haven't got - there's links in descriptions to help you too. Once you have the basics, buy what you need when you need it. Think of them as part of the cost of the job and think about how much cheaper the tools are than labour at a garage.
      Consider joining "Saab 9-3 (2003-2012)" on Facebook. A great group (of course it is, I'm in it 😂).
      And you can always ask for advice here too, but hopefully my videos answer most of your questions.

      Happy to help. Yeah, every other instruction I can find says to remove the door trim. Which itself, is a pain in the arris!! I'll be doing a full refurb soon, with a few more tricks up my sleeve, but right now I'm finding it hard to get the bits needed, so it'll have to wait till we get back to normal
      "normal"? what is that? Can someone remind me?
      lol lol lol lol lol

      @@CycloneCyd Yes, exactly! That's the reason I haven't done that yet, haha.
      Oh, might be worth waiting for that video then. Some extra tips and tricks won't hurt.

    Just what I needed, planning to repair the aluminium shield corrosion soon which is very common on these.

    If you have the tilt/parking function is it possible to change the mirror into automatic folding ones? I have the one with memory + the tilt/parking function but was wondering if its just as simple as switching the control module or do you need to switch the mirrors as well? Do you have to change the harness as well or is it possible that the harness inside already has the wires it needs?

    Whats is the extra piece of foam on the dashboard side covers? Is it for sound deadening?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is. You'd be surprised how much road noise it cuts out. I'm going to be doing a mini series on 9-3SS NVH later in the year. Mine is 2dB quieter than a Velar at 70mph!!

    • @kentb3175
      @kentb3175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CycloneCyd I did the inside of mine with a sliver backed adhesive foam deadening as well as the door cards, makes a big difference. I also placed a bit of the foam over the aperture for the window switches as the draft from them is quite considerable, stopped it completely.

    My folding mirror motor dosnt stop and keeps going until the mirror cover is facing the windshield. A quick fix would be to pull out the connector seen in the video? Downside would the that you cant adjust the mirror anymore (beside doing it manually). Right?

  • @frogger911
    @frogger911 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've recently replaced my door mirror and your instructions did wonders, but now I get a lot more road noise inside. The mirror sealed perfectly, so I'm not sure why. I see you have some noise deadening material applied, maybe that's related?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Door mirrors are a nightmare for wind noise, but not usually road noise. If you bought a 2ndhand mirror I would suggest removing the big rubber seal and fitting your original one instead. They shape to the door and it only takes pin prick gaps to let in noise. Also seal the gasket to both the mirror and door. Also stuff some Dacron or felt into the triangle the mirror fits to (or fill with a little expanding foam).

    Magnets are your friend when working with fasteners that once removed are prone to fall in areas where they can't be retrieved.👍

    I painted my mirror bases and didn't bother putting the last screw on and they feel sturdy enough

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even if you cannot see it or hear it, it will vibrate in response to road inputs and will eventually break. The three fixings are like a tripod providing a sturdy base.
