    Excellent video as usual Ryan! I enjoyed your first Plaid overview but hearing your in-depth thoughts after driving was awesome. I've had my January order Plaid for a couple weeks now and love it like crazy. I guess I'm lucky as I received a really clean example with no build issues that I've heard from folks on forums, other videos, etc. I have noticed some head-scratching software "bugs" that I hope are addressed soon, but nothing serious. I hope you can get yours soon, I use mine as a family car and it's great at that job! 😀👍🏻

      That's why I couldn't justify the premium for a Plaid and went for a Long Range. I do prefer the carbon fiber, but not for $50,000. They made the Long Range too good of a value, and I'm sure there are a lot of people like me that just don't care about acceleration or top speed as much.

      The only use for the stalk is for the horn. I don't understand why it was moved to the centre of the wheel where you need to take your hand off the wheel to use it. Worst UI. My ideal would be a pressure gauge within the wheel, so squeezing or pulling back hard on it activates the horn.
      Buttons on the wheel for indicators has always been the obvious choice for me, can't understand why it wasn't done a long time ago. Somebody wondered a while ago what when the wheel is upside down? So I tried turning the volume up via my wheel each time I wanted to come off the roundabout as an experiment. Actually pretty easy to get used to. Easier than having to take my hand off the wheel and try and find the stalk each time I want to indicate.
      I would like rid of all the stalks. Including for changing gear. The European method of having the shifter in the centre console is safer and more intuitive (forward for forward, backwards for backwards).

    I really appreciate this video, thank you, great coverage of many items and expectations. I was most curious about acclimating to the yoke steering wheel and am mostly relieved learning your experience. I believe I will find it accommodating in many ways but particularly in one I will have to adjust: Though I habitually hold a wheel at the 8 and 4 positions on straights/slight turns/curves, I “crab” the wheel to avoid arm(s) “crossing over center” on sharp turns/u-turns. “Crabbing” may be a bit tricky with a yoke. I’m averse to crossing forearm over center because I routinely envision the various outcomes if one were to wreck at the worst possible moment with the airbag deploying when a forearm is between face and the wheel: Dislocated shoulder, broken arm, arm impacting face, etc, from airbag deploy, not to mention how the airbag cover/trademark (emblem - usually rigid chromed plastic or metal) may injure the skin of a forearm? I can’t shake it. On another point you mentioned how passively resting one’s thumbs upon the L & R control surfaces can cause accidental engagement of a command. An inner thumb grip pattern also tends to cause the heel of one’s hand(s) to migrate over/rest on the wheel surface instead of being a bit off to the side. Again, out of habit and envisioned outcomes (here I go again), I routinely rest my thumbs on the outer circumference of the wheel as I’ve seen X-rays of broken thumbs, wrists, radii/ulnar bone(s) as a result of thumbs curled within the inner circumference of steering wheels. If not a severe enough frontal impact causing injury as a thumb/wrist (or two) is forced out of grip to migrate around to the side of the wheel, an even lighter side impact causing the wheel to spin inside one’s grip with a wheel spoke may snag an unsuspecting thumb and flex/break it in a most unintended way.

    0:59 is the door trim almost 1 cm out of alignment?
    The mix of leather, fabric, shiny alu, boat style wood and plastic is a bit much for me on the inside door.
    It is a bit funny that the outside shiny things have been toned down, but the inside has been toned up instead.
    I would need a foil kit or something for the fake wood trim, I am really not a fan and there is no choice it looks like.
    Is the "Door open" lit up but the window controls are not?
    I am missing the ability to move hand positions on the yoke, looks like there is only really one position available.

That is the only real issue I have with the car. I will put in a service request at some point, but I’m enjoying the car so much that I’m gonna deal with it for awhile. According to what i was tought while obtaining a driver's license (24 years ago) the way you are now suppose to hold your hands on a Yoke steering is the safest for driving (both hands on a wheel, in diagonale parallel to the ground). Since it is an only way to steer Model S now i bet it meant to safe driving as well, but I have never seen it as an explanation for Yoke. Like your channel, greetings from Russia, Alexander

    The owner's manual does in fact say that you can place your hand on the right side of the yoke to activate the horn. Works for me when more than one button is being touched.

  • @johnweber7167
    @johnweber7167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can see an aftermarket part to make the yolk into a wheel for those not liking it.

  • @8repeels8
    @8repeels8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The yoke used properly will protect the hands and arms from becoming airbag projectiles. The turning radius looks sharp enough. I agree, I would become used to this in about a week and proficient shortly thereafter.
    But I'm keeping my 3's steering wheel vintage. I want my '18 BLACK 3 LR/RWD FSD 20K VIN to remain just as it is, except perhaps any further hardware updates that are needed.

    First time on this channel, this was really great review. I'm from Eu, I had some car from "Citroen" brand, it had horn positioned on lever with blinkers. After driving that car, my usage of horn went down to like about 20% of previous usage. It was unpractical, so I used it only in emergency situation, but after that car, I guess people think I'm much less nervous driver :)

    • @philliptemple4534
      @philliptemple4534 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horn on the stalk was great! I could have both hands on the wheel whilst emergency braking and still honk at will. Or in extreme cases where too much braking would lock up the brakes, control the wheel with one hand, shift down through the gears with the other, and still use the rear two fingers to beep.
      I'm not convinced the horn in the middle of the wheel is the best solution. Even without the argument that is where the airbag is, and if it deploys will do unimaginable things to your wrist.
      I think there is still a better solution than both that nobody has done yet.
      Phillip.

    i normally hold the bottom left or right of the steering wheel, so i feel like it wouldnt be much of a change for me. although i dont like the touch buttons, and those seem like they would be way to easy to hit. should switch to actual buttons and voice command.

  • @danielzavalahuerta
    @danielzavalahuerta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never use blinkers so the buttons are not a problem for me

  • @Account-pq1it
    @Account-pq1it 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They should move the touch buttons to the opposite side of the scroll wheel button. That would prevent accidental touch. And they could also engrave a box around them so they’re easier to find by feel.

    Thank you so much for a good review Ryan. I have a Model X LR on order, will be a long time till I get it. My biggest worry was the Yoke which after this is no issue for me. Also on the build quality, I would just not accept it at delivery. Tesla has always been this way so I don't see this changing but most of the panel gaps I can live with, just not paint issues on a 100k car. Love the plaid but given I have a very fast SUV now, I care more about range. I rarely use full acceleration as its just too jarring, though maybe I getting old.

    Had mine for a two months. It doesn’t feel poorly made like others have noted. The steering does wake about 25 miles to get used to. I did do a full of and blacked out everything that was chrome or gray. Storage is great but the software definitely needs fixes. I.e getting to the eq. Getting to sentry videos. And others are not in any menu sets. I’d like to be able to use AirPods in the car for back seat users, and am waiting for black badges and screen protectors. Overall very happy with the car.

    So this isn't something many can relate to, but with the new steering wheel I am wondering how driving it would be being that I'm paralyzed and circular wheels are easier for me to drive with since I can only use one hand to turn with. Overall though I know a tesla is my next car.
    The last thing I find off is that your friend at 5 mins never knew that cars had cooled seats or that launch control was Tesla only when launch control has been around for a very long time on cars.

    After reading quiet a few reviews I noticed that no
    One said anything about your choice of locations to do your test runs.
    For instance, here in the UK there are various speed limits depending on the area such as in a built up area it's 30mph
    Suburban areas are between 40mph and 50mph and on open highways the speed limit is up to 60mph. Only on Motorways is the maximum speed limit which is 70mph.
    What were the speed limits where you did your accelerations?
