Quick comment: The NC and ND Miata generations both have engines behind the front axle, like the S2K. Thomas was referring to when the S2K first came out. He just did a bad job of explaining it because apparently he doesn't want us to reach 2 million subscribers.

I worked at a Honda dealer in 2005 before I left for the Marine Corps. Super easy gig, the cars sold them selves. The dealership had a “test loop” comprised of back roads and highways. We had a used S2000 that we used as our test car whenever someone was looking at a new S2000. One day a gentleman came in and wanted the Blue S2 that we had on the floor but wasn’t sure. I proceeded to tske him to the test loop to seal the deal, he kept on shifting at 6000 RPM, darn thing wasn’t even into vtec yet. I asked him to get out, and than I drove it. I proceeded to beat it with in an inch of its life, 9k shifts for 10 minutes. The customer paid me cash for the floor model 20 minutes later. Epic cars.

I was also selling at a Honda dealership in 2005 and we always had a hard time with the S2000. We had this same CR for almost a year in our showroom before selling it for invoice to a prison guard. I heard later that year he left it in a parking lot during a flood and totaled the car out.

It will be forever my favorite car of all time despite having more "grown up" and supposedly "better" fast sports cars. My now sold S2k has been the only car that made me repeatedly irresponsible on public roads despite plenty of track time. It was the reason I sold it. Living between 6k-9k on the revs was my drug addiction that I had to kick to make sure I continued to live. I still hear the echos of the F20c at 9k through my T1R Sparrow exhaust. 😔❤️

As a 12-year owner of two yellow AP1 S2000s, this was a treat of a video. I miss mine immensely. My only consolation is it's likely I'll get another at some point. It was a stunningly good car. It was a rare drive that it didn't go all the way to 9000rpm, and it begged to do it each and every time. In those dozen years, the only mechanical fault I experienced was a bad MAP sensor. It provided thousands of miles of dependable, unadulterated fun.

I've owned an '04 AP2 for past 7 years. I don't think I've ever gotten out of it not smiling or eagerly excited to drive it again, I think that's the highest praise you can give a sports car. A car that exists entirely for pure fun and driving pleasure, I don't know if we'll ever see another like it with everyone chasing numbers. Numbers don't matter here, it's how it makes you feel.

I worked for Honda for a short time and always believed this car was awesome even when it was underpowered by other cars at that time. The noise of the engine roaring to redline, the accurate handling, light chassis, and close gear shifting make it a fun and addicting car to drive.

I just bought this car 2 months ago and absolutely love this car. Its been my dream car ever since I was in high school and I finally saved up enough money to buy one. With the prices of S2Ks going up I knew I had to buy one now before they get out of my price range. I just got a 2001 AP1 in White with a tan interior for 14k, 176k on chasis and 2k on rebuilt motor. My goodness this car is so much fun to drive with the top down. Previous owner added a K&N intake and Invidia Q300 exhuast...let me tell you with the top down reving up to 9k rpms theres nothing like it. You can hear the engine breathe whenever it hits VTEC at 6k RPMs and up. The car just begs you to rev it up when you're under 6k rpms. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it and would reccomend buying this car if you ever wanted one. Seriously a RWD Honda that has 240 HP stock that revs up to 9k RPMs is legendary...don't get me wrong I love my K, H, and B series engines but the F series motor is so unique. This car isn't the fastest but it is most fun to drive all the time. If I wanted fast I could buy a newer car with more HP but thats not what this car is all about. Trust me buy this car, put the top down, rev it up to 9k or 8.2k on the AP2 and you'll understand what I mean.
If you buy one please cherish these cars, they are only getting rarer to find in good condition. Many for sale are salvaged title going up to 20k on fb marketplace and offer up. Even one on offer up that was gutted with hentai anime stickers and wasn't well maintained sold for 20k.

Despite what a lot of people say - I don't think S2000's are slow (coming from a guy who use to own a Toyota with a twin-turbo JZ, however much that's worth). For something with a 2-liter N/A engine these cars are stupid fast. And they're unique in that they tolerate being beat on, and moreover they encourage it and make it very easy - the switchgear in an S2K makes the experience so fluid and effortless that it's just unbelievable. Another thing I love about this car is that - usually in a manual car when you upshift the engine winds up in a place where it's a bit lethargic, whereas in an S2K after the upshift the revs are about where a normal engine would be redlining. It's an experience that's totally unique to the S2K with its insane redline and short ratios.

It's very tough and frustrating to drive daily or even 4 times a week, trust me. I sold mine and got an ND2 Miata. Much more torque down low for city driving and I don't need to wring the engine out and be super loud to pass a minivan. You can put better suspensions and tires on a Miata if you want better handling and it still retains its daily driveability. The S2k is just the king on a track but anywhere else and it beats you up and you can't drive it fast because you don't want to rev it out all the time. It also drinks gasoline for breakfast.

lol I literally just bought one this weekend and drove it up from LA back to the Bay Area. EPIC car and loads of fun. I think my 997.2 GT3 will see a lot less miles now that this is in my stable. The S2000 is just far more approachable on everyday speed. The 2.2L gets great MPG and it's dead reliable if you treat it right because it is a Honda. It's just a fantastic little machine.
As James and Thomas have noted, your sitting position is a bit high, lack of steering adjustability is just weird for these days and age. The car feels slow when you're driving it but strangely feels much quickly as a passenger (and you sit lower too). The brakes don't bite like the Germans and doesn't inspire the same level of confidence but it makes heel-toeing a lot easier on mountain roads when you're going 6 or 7/10s. The Steering is a bit numb but feedbacks from everything else sorta made up for it (Sort of, you still want more feedback occasionally). The shifter and the chassis balance are the crown jewel of this car however. Butter smooth and the gear ratio is so close you end up shifting all the time - exactly what you want in a car like this. The ride is firm, it's loud because its a softtop convertible, and on long roadtrips it's an exhausting car to drive.
But I really don't care. It's still brilliant, and in some respect still a better roadster than the ND2.

I finally found and bought a near mint 06' S2000 with low miles. I'm the 2nd owner and I was fortunate to have tracked it once to see if these are everything I hear and have read about. Well, I'm happy to say that these are all that and more. This car is absolutely everything that all these videos' magazines and reports say about this car.

Automotive jdm legend . Hands down one of the best cars built. Other cars take notes on the s2000 😍✅📈

I have a stock ap2 other than springs, valves, retainers and a tune. So it revs to 9k. It’s the only car I’ve ever owned that isn’t a v8. Yet I’ve never loved any car more.

Makes me love my 8200rpm B16a swapped EK even more. Its a daily and a track car and i can still haul cargo. Everything is easy to fix its small lightweight and nimble.

Mates, may i just say that I am more than ecstatic and happy for you two, but proud to be a part of seeing you cross the 2 million mark, I’ve been following the channel since the couple hundred thousand mark and I’m glad to be a part of the ride. True inspirations you two are, thank you for being that to me without knowing, and as always, amazing content!

I appreciate the bowling ball allegory. I drove an J35-swapped S2K, and even though I absolutely adore the Honda J-series of engines - compared to stock the V6 swapped S2K very much had that bowling ball effect to it.
