Thanks Scott. First battery change for my 2017 C7. You erased my anxieties. I purchased an OEM AC DELCO from the local parts distributor, United Auto Parts, here in Syracuse. The red plastic cover plate on the battery has a red vent cap attached that you twist or snip off if your battery installation requires. The sales counter tech who sold me the battery pointed this out to me at the time of purchase. Who knew?

Scott, the video is priceless. Thank you for the time and effort to produce this. Because it was so informative I felt obligated to add my two cents. After the old battery is out take the plug from the positive side and the 90* elbow vent and place on a piece of duck tape for later installation on the new battery. When you get the new battery, install the plug on the positive side, but wait on the elbow vent until after the battery is in place. Now locate the vent tube that came off when you removed the old battery. Duck tape it to the side wall for later. In order to get the new battery in you will need to tilt the near side (negative) down at a steep angle to clear the carpet then lower the positive side. Once in place you can then install the 90* elbow vent, and then untape and install the vent tube. If you install the elbow first there is a good chance you will break it off when installing the battery. On regular cars and trucks the battery is under the hood but in our Corvettes it is in the cabin and therefor the need to vent any gases outside. Also the comment about using some sort of strap to re-install the battery and then leave it in place for the next time is a great idea. I hope this will help those in the future
    Thanks again Scott-Priceless!

Thanks for showing the entire process and not FF through the details. I now have the confidence to do it myself. I’ll be getting mine from the dealer so everything clips back on as you show in the video. Nice to hear your dealer pricing was less than non OEM and came with more cold cranking Amps.

I'm glad your video is still up after 3 years ago posting. Lost all my controls on the dashboard. Car still cranks without any hesitation, but battery is 5 years old. Took it to the dealer and the battery was $195.00 and they wanted $300.00 for installation. Found your video and decided to do it myself. Not bad but it would have been better to remove the 90 degree elbow vent tube in order to remove the battery without damaging the elbow. Then reinstall the elbow on the new battery. Thanks for the video! Saved me some dollars! All controls came back but had to use an OBD Scanner to reset it.

I am taking care of my son’s corvette while he is deployed with the military. I am not that familiar with them, and this video was a BIG help. The battery just suddenly failed - so ended up doing it myself in the garage. Thank you for taking the time to video this - and including details like the plug and vent on the battery. Got the job done, and works like a charm.

Thanks for the comprehensive video. My 2016 C7 battery just died. It went down the assembly line Feb. 2016 and lasted until Jan 2022. So, I got close to 6 years out of mine. Lucky!! After watching your video I have zero apprehension about changing out the battery. Again…..THANK YOU!!

  • @nelno

Thanks for the video. This definitely helped me. Two things I noticed when pulling mine that I didn't see addressed directly:
    1) The original battery is vented to the outside. There's a small tube on the negative side of the body (next to the quarter panel). You pointed out the vent but didn't mention connecting it to the tube that goes into the floor of the battery compartment. It's very helpful to remove this prior to trying to lift the battery.
    2) I only had to loosen two bolts on the positive terminal: the one directly connected to the battery and the red line with the captive nut. The other two (between those two) do not need to be removed.
Also, I had real trouble getting my hands in there. I used an old belt and slipped it over the batter from the positive end and used that to get some leverage. I still manage to take a bunch of skin off of my fingers. Two straps like Bethany Bilsky mentioned would work better because with a single belt it wanted to tilt to one side or the other.

Came through in a clutch with this video! I am generally adverse to changing batteries in cars and more specifically, fiddling with the one in my '16 C7. But your video was such good quality and very clear. The ease with which you changed the battery out gave me confidence to do it myself. A few things I learned: the '16 seems to have some differences: rug is harder to peel back, the vent is a tube that you need to pull out prior to trying to remove the battery, there is a very small ground wire that has no slack so you have to remove that before you can move the negative cable out of the way and lastly: getting the battery out is tough. On that one, I took some long bungee cords, slid them under each side of the battery and used them like straps to life it out of the battery well. Otherwise, everything was the same and your guidance got me through the task. Thanks a bunch!

After doing this yesterday I have a few hints: (1) buy a battery carrying strap ($4 at local auto supply store) to hook on to terminals to lift the battery in and out. (2) pull the vapor tube off the small nozzle on the fender side of the battery so that when you pull the battery up out of the compartment the tube doesn't try to hold the battery in place, (3) when pulling up tilt the battery up on the fender side to get it out of the compartment, (4) when putting the new battery into the compartment, tilt the fender side up and slide the interior side of the battery slightly into the compartment then push down the fender side.

Awesome video Scott! I used your guidance and had no problem changing the battery in my 2016 Stingray. One quick update I learned in the process that could be helpful. You discussed pulling the cap from the old battery and reusing it on the new one, if replacing with a factory battery. (REFERENCE AROUND TIME 9:25 ON VIDEO). Actually, there is a cap provided on that red cover over the positive terminal. It's the little circle on that red cover that's close to the cap hole in the video. Anyhow, Thank You for the helpful video instruction! Respectfully submitted...

Thank you sir. I came to this video AFTER replacing my battery to find that the big red MAIN cable wasn't on snug. If you want to see a spastic orchestra of weirdness, only half the car was awake, had to use the pull to open the door as the door would (sound) like it was unlocking and the windows would just go down. Finally after tightening down that last 13 mm nut even tighter it started right up. My old battery 14' was so bad it wouldn't hold a charge anymore :( As my wife says, thank God for the internet.

Thank you for this video. I am a tiny 100lb woman, 5'6" tall. This was my first time changing any car battery ever and with your help, I got through it. The hardest part was lifting out the battery and replacing it with the new one. Extremely heavy for me and exhausting; took several attempts. I used two straps that I slipped under the battery to pull it out and also to lower the new one back into place. My replacement battery is a Duralast Platinum AMG 760 CCA and it fits fine. :)

Thanks for posting this. I could not get the battery to come straight up, so finally I flipped it over, on its end, and was able to get it out. It's sealed so no acid spilled. Also, I found that it was easier to disconnect the small leads (8 mm nuts...(also fixed so you can't drop them) and get the distribution plate out of the way. I replaced it with an Autozone Duralast Gold H6-DLG. The nice thing about the H6-DLG is that it has a built-in handle. It is also slightly smaller than the OEM Delco battery and getting it in and out is now easy.

I bought a 16 with 8300 miles (in 2017) on it, impeccably kept, (bought the CPO coverage) and a few days after I got it home from the 400 mile trip, it stranded me in front of the laundry & had to be jumped. Dealer said battery checks fine but “replaced for customer satisfaction”. 26 mos later same thing happened, right in the drive thru line at the pharmacy… (Warning: if you get in to start car (C7) and it sounds the least bit weak, don’t cut it off before reaching a charger or dealer)..and dealer charged me nearly $300 to replace it with a new. Info screen again had been showing Battery charge problem. This time mechanic stated “I think I found your problem-a loose ground wire in there”. I now use the plug in battery maintainers when both are in the garage. My 2017 (bought a year ago w/8300 miles) still has original battery with 10,000 miles on it. I guess the other was intermittent non-charging. Your video gives me the confidence that I believe I can change out the next one myself.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful and informative. Made the swap easy. It was snug getting it out. I used vice grips as a handle on the negative post and a bungee cord hook under positive side lip to lift it out.

Depending on the year of the car you may need to reset the stereo and memory settings things like that. Nothing to major..

Great video. Someone already mentioned the battery vent. But you also need to make sure the small wire on an eyelet on the ground terminal is also detached when disconnecting the ground and reattached when reconnecting. And I don’t know the necessity of leaving in straps to help get the battery out as has been suggested here in the comments. My AC Delco battery has two fold up handles to pull the battery out.

Thanks for your video, but when I tried to re-install the positive cable back (at 13:40), the nut on mine couldn't catch the thread of the screw. Wondering if you had the same issue and how you solved it.

I just replaced the battery on my 2014 and it was a little hard to get your hand under the battery to lift it out. Other than that, everything went fine. I was amazed that there was no corrosion on the terminals anywhere...Looked like new on a 7 year old battery. But I could tell it was cranking the motor a little slower and the doors stopped auto unlocking (had to use the fob to unlock the doors) till I put in the new battery.

By the way. To change to an optima yellow top just follow the same directions. The vent doesn't need to be connected and can be stored away. However there is an indentation where the vent goes,so I just hooked the vent there anyway to keep it from vibrating or getting in the way.

Great instructional video. Definitely the best one i found while searching. Just a couple comments:
    1) I couldnt find my flat head screwdriver to pop the latch on that secondary cover. A butter knife was a suitable substitution.
    2) My car has what appears to be a vent line that connects to the negative side. Did see where you discussed that or if you have the same vent line?

Hi Bill... That is a great idea. My car is a 2014 C7 with navigation and so I did not have to reset anything. But a few months later I had to take the battery loose on my wifes C7 without Navigation and I did have to reset everything. Sounds like a great idea for another video. Thanks for the input.

Question, On some cars, the charging system needs to know that a new battery was installed. Do I need to consider this when replacing the battery? Assuming the battery isn't dead yet.

Very informative, thank you! ..question? If you disconnect the battery what do you do with the car computer which will probably have issues and give out codes after installing the new battery. Is there a way to maintain connectivity with an additional power source as to not loose the computer's info? I would love to see an episode on how to maintain the battery by using a battery tender. Many thanks!

    • @THECORVETTECHANNEL
      @THECORVETTECHANNEL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I didn't have any issues other than having to reindex the windows and rest the radio presets. But they do make a device that you plug into the cigarette socket and is powered by a 9volt battery that will keep the computer from losing information.
