  • This cabinet was originally from the Kolga manor, Estonia. It´s style - neo-baroque, suggests that it is from the end of the 19th century. It´s condition shows that it has been la long time in the kitchen with lots of smoke and fume. In this video I will restore it.

Beautiful restauration! The cabinet is from a period called „Gründerzeit“ and was most likely the top part of a bigger buffet cabinet. Love the piece of newspaper you showed… it‘s written in old German and informed of the marriage of the potter Reinhold and Maria on the October 3rd, 1875. Thank you for sharing.

@Nicole Stöber, is Old German in that particular print type/font difficult to read, for a native German speaker? Because it sure is to me😅. Eventhough I have no problem what so ever reading German in "normal"
(modern) print. With this particular type setting many letters seem to resemble a ß / Eszett, to me.✌🏻

There are some excellent restorers on TH-cam, but I think this guy is the best I've seen. He retains the integrity of the pieces with his knowledge, patience, thoroughness and top skills, one of which is his superb wood carving ability. He also doesn't rely on pointless pets (as nice as pets are) hanging around to gain the gullible pet-loving viewers' empathy and 'likes'. I've just 'subscribed'.

So it makes me really satisfied when I see one get restored to its original glory. Especially if the person doing it tries to stay true to the original piece instead of just making it into osmething else. The furniture makers in 'the old times' had most of the tools you see in this video. Just not the electric ones. They had power tools that were either water, steam, or engine driven. A modern craftsman would be very challenged to keep up with an 1875 craftsman. They had all the chisels, saws, and a myriad of hand planes that performed very well.

The amount of tiny detail you put in, esp by hand, is beautiful! I love that you even used scrappy old bits to fix some of the tiny parts so they were still restored using an original part of it. Damn, you got talent!!

If I said "WOW" once, during this video, I must have said it a dozen times, but when it came to your remaking of that strip of "Egg and Dart" trim, I almost burst into tears!! This is one of the most remarkable restorations I've seen, (and I'm stuck indoors nursing a broken leg, so, trust me, I've seen lots!). Thankyou from the bottom of my heart, for the love and care you put into your work!

1:00 - I saw that moth flying away and thought, "I don't blame you, buddy."
10:25 - I don't have any idea why I'm so very pleased that a broken-off section of the original cabinet's wood was used to fix the missing ornamental pieces. It's strangely satisfying. There's probably a whole load of philosophical waffling I could do about the pleasing symmetry of destruction giving rise to creation, but that's what happens when I watch videos like this at four in the morning.
