Besides adding "something special" with the legs, he also added height to the item. I imagine when it was made, most people were shorter. Now the drawers and doors are more accessible.
I just watched a video where someone rescued a sick, ugly, bedraggled, stray cat, nursed it back to health, and it completely transformed into a gorgeous, happy, fluffy, healthy cat with a whole new life. I got the same feeling of satisfaction watching both videos. Thanks for rescuing this beautiful piece.
Agreed! It’s nice to see that there are still nice people out there on youtube who leave nice comments. I just got slaughtered in my comments on my video so I thought I would make myself feel better and come and read the modern makeover comments, you guys are the best ❤
Ugh this is too good I don’t even know where to start. The tone of the 3 stains mixed together is such a unique color and the fact that you salvaged the legs from a bed frame is so perfect. 💕💕💕
My first time here.... I cannot believe how many new techniques I've learned in 15 minutes!! How to attach legs....from another piece. How to rip down the top from another piece, How to use the offcut from another piece as an upstand, How to attach the upstand, Using a pizza sock instead of a cloth.... I'm thrilled!! Hi from a new subscriber in Ireland 🇮🇪
Oh My! I would never have believed those 2 dressers were the same piece of furniture. Fabulous choice of legs and pulls. And the lighted Christmas trees are a delight.
The plot twist of cutting off the gorgeous rounded edge of the dining table top... and then reattaching it to the back! Honestly, it's better than any thriller movie I have ever seen.
You are so good at marrying different pieces and making the whole so much better than the parts. The legs from the bed were perfect for the chest. You even used the curved cut from the tabletop into a backrest for the new top. I’m impressed with everything you do!
I have been following your incredible journey of furniture restoration or repurposing if needed. You are a fine example of what it means to"repurpose or recycle" which is the key to fixing our beautiful earth. Keep inspiring.
Beautiful! I’m striving to be a carpenter or woodworker and I turn on your videos sometimes to just see the art and craft of it. Your handiwork is truly something special. My goal is to hopefully be like you one day and take something completely old and worn and turn it into something beautiful and vibrant.
Such a difference, beautiful! Love the choice of stain mix, the leg choice, the lighter stain in the drawers, and the grain, really gorgeous. The trees and greenery was the icing on the cake! Great turnout and filming as always. Have a blessed holiday season!
That outcome is fabulous! I loved that you showed all the steps, but didn't make it a slow, tedious video. It was pleasant to watch, using only text as simple explanations! It held my attention and awe❤.
I had to watch this over again! I couldn’t believe this was under all that paint- it’s just truly stunning! You’ve made this 100 year old gentleman young and vibrant, and ready to take on the next 100 years! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I love the comment, about how did wood working exist before the internet. I'm in my 60's, and I've often been amazed at what I can accomplish and learn thanks to you tube. Encyclopedias? And books on a particular subject, the library.....🤷♀️ you are very talented! Beautiful transformation! ❤
This is seriously the best restoration I've seen all year. The attention and respect you gave the old wood is so beautiful and sweet! Made me feel so happy!
Woodworking existed before the internet, with knowledge generally passed down from master to student. I am thinking you are self taught? You have an incredible gift for all elements of this, including the filming and editing. It is THAT kind of woodworking that never existed before. Modern Indeed.
First off, the Christmas trees were a nice touch...but, then, your videos are filled with nice touches. The clock for the time lapse section was mighty fine, too. Yessir...we'll see you in 2024...and are looking forward to it! Happy Holidays!
I love the way you do your sponsor ads. I still get to watch the video and I don’t have to try and skip ahead. I don’t feel like my time is wasted and I still get the info from the sponsor if it interests me. Thank you for coming up with this solution!
Thanks for sharing your talent with us, Andy! I love the result of mixing those three stains. The drawer pulls are a nice touch, too. Happy holidays to you and yours! 💕
Very clever choice on the pulls replacement. The cup style pulls fit the period of the piece, while also doing a marvelous job of hiding the dowel fill on the old pulls. Well done. As a woodworker, I love it when a piece like this is restored to near its original look. It certainly is a beautiful piece.
Andy, Merry Christmas! I am always stunned at the end of every project you do. I think I know how it will be finished - but you always add one level up. Thank you for the care and artistry of your videos. Such a pleasure to watch!
Your work is always impressive Andy and this piece no exception, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I love watching you work and I’m always bowled over by the end result, you’re incredibly talented 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I love the sweet little Christmas Trees too 🎄🎄🎄 🤭 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from England 🏴
You saw the potential under all that "shabby chic" paint. The dresser has beautiful bones. You did a fantastic restoration, and I just love the stain color, in fact I wrote it down to try on a future project. The cabernet elevated it. Thanks again for a wonderful project, and Merry Christmas to you! 🎄
It's so encouraging to see these humble, ruined pieces brought back to life! It's a slow, painstaking process that involves a lot of skill and knowledge.
Just found your channel and really enjoyed this stunning restoration! I have never understood why folks slap layers and layers of paint onto beautiful furniture! Another antique given some TLC and brought back to its former beauty! Bravo! New subscriber also.
I love that you used the cast off table top!! I do too!! Always can find them for free or at least cheap and finish up so nicely!! Love, love, love this project!!
Very cool! I would rather it be naturally stained than painted. I understand that sometimes it is all a person can do because a piece is too far gone, so people paint but this piece is fantastic 👌❤
You are so darn creative. You make things better than the original or at least you make them relevant for todays times. Love your vids so keep them coming!
I love how you said the dining table was your most valuable piece of scrap. When my daughters were little, I used to buy old table cloths at estate sales for the same reason. Lol Yards of quality fabric in good condition for $3-5 and make them dresses. Sometimes I would find matching napkins and piece together a bodice and sleeves with matching decorative trim. Dining room furniture and accessories are always nice to have around.
I absolutely love this one! How classy that you took the legs off that bed frame to reuse and it looks perfect. That bedframe will provide a lot of parts for other projects. You made the chest look like a very loved antique! So glad no paint was used....a fabulous job!!!
Hey there Andy, thanks for another great year of TH-cam content. I have loved your style right from the start. Happy Holidays and I look forward to watching you create in the New Year 😊
Вот это МАСТЕР! Просто нет слов от восхищения! Такую красоту сотворить, буквально из ничего! Это под силу не каждому. Здоровья мастеру и дальнейших успехов.
i love the drawer with that one little lighter colored jagged line and one little lighter colored curved line. Also obsessed with your restoration and editing as per usual
thanks to you i got the confidence to refurbished this really old (and horrendously painted) wooden keepsake box i have had for ages. i just started sanding it today and obviously it’s not as impressive as furniture but im still excited for it 😁
Well this is just stunning. You always do beautiful work but this one really stands out. The stains, handles, new legs. Beautiful and elegant. And the Christmas trees are so clever and perfect. Thanks for all the beautiful makeovers this year! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎄and a happy and prosperous New Year 🍾🥂🥳🎉
You're so good. I appreciate that you're so methodical about every second and facet of your work. It's inspiring because it's not rushed and because it's always tremendously aesthetically pleasing.
My jaw never ceases to drop during your videos. Your skills are superb, your commitment to upcycling inspirational, and your sense of humor delightful. Not to mention the editing is top notch. Well done every time sir!
Woodworking, like any of craft, relies on googling something to find answers and videos of "how to" and DIY's" and that is a wonderful tool to have. Having the talent, drive and imagination works wonders as well. But what they did before internet and even before electricity they solely relied on trial and error, becoming an apprentice to a master of the trade they were interested in, family and friends for the most part. And even more amazing it was all done by hand and skills they found along of the way. Yes I am am a fan of restoration and repurposing old furniture and making them useable again. You did a remarkable job recycling other things you had to be able to complete the restoration of that now beautiful piece of furniture. This is a channel I will subscribe to as it is enjoyable to watch how you restore old broken down and unloved items and make them new again for someone else to love them.
I love the video! One tip about the refinishing hinges, I just learned about boiling hardware to remove paint. It works really well and you don't have to use stripper.
I greatly appreciate your work with the furniture pieces, but the video has to be what sets you apart and “up&beyond”. Great filming, editing, scripting, love your sense of humor… indeed, in my top 3 channels… maybe even #1! Keep them coming, absolutely love your posts!!! and… THANK YOU
Awh yes, blessed with such talent to save another old piece of history and someone’s treasure long ago. I would gladly take this masterpiece into my home. My congratulations for a wonderful restoration.
I've watched every single one of your videos and every piece is breathtaking but this one is my absolute favourite!! It is so elegant and the wood is so beautiful! The choice of legs and hardware elevated it so much. Amazing job as always! You are so talented! Thank you for sharing with us.
You used an old bed frame legs for this dresser and dinning room table top for the top of the dresser. You’re a genius and you have a very creative and artistic mind. I love your channel and it’s always exciting to see a new post. Merry Christmas and happy new year. 🇺🇸❤️
I love this show: your ability to see beauty in “junk”, your perfectionism & skill, the videography, your humor, the finished product! I love the breaks to rake leaves and follow an insect ❤❤❤❤. Congrats on your well-deserved award! 🥇
Simply perfection! I was wondering how you were going to add your signature touch to this piece without changing it to drastically. Then, in true Modern Makeover style, you created those Christmas trees, leaving this viewer surprised yet again. Oh and those bed legs - genius!!! Love watching your channel 🤗
Just stunning! It looks like a cherished antique now with a rich finish and updated hardware. Kudos on the tip on finding the center of a circle, and I love using the offcut from the top as a backstop piece. Great job! 👍
You are so fantastic to watch. Video is so professional, talking is kept to the minimum amd your process and professionalism is great to watch. Great transition once again. Thanks.
Gorgeous piece! Amazing restoration! The stain color and the handles are superb! The Christmas wood tree decorations are so nice! Thanks so much for sharing. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas
He may not be a mailman, but he never fails to deliver.
Well put!
I was just going to say that!
He would make a great mailman i he did
Wow! Absolutely stunning
Clever lol 😅
Beautiful restoration. The new legs just added something special. Also, the cutest diy tree decor!
I wonder how long he's going to "borrow" those legs from the bed frame. 😂
Besides adding "something special" with the legs, he also added height to the item. I imagine when it was made, most people were shorter. Now the drawers and doors are more accessible.

Out of all the furniture refinishers out there in TH-cam world, you are by far my favorite.
Your work is fantastic!! Can't wait til your next one!
