Extremely wormed cabinet restoration

- This Estonian Art Nouveau cabinet is from the 1910 period. I suspect that it has been in very humid condition, probably facing the wall. That is why the face of it is so wormed. Usually it happens to back side and underneath, where the humidity builds up. The restoration took me about 12 days.

Title: EXTREMELY WORMED CABINET RESTORATION
Ahti, I cried. 🥺your work is so amazingly beautiful. I'm an old woman now, and so many of my beautiful pieces have gone to the dump because no one wanted to restore them. Thank you for caring 💝
I am so happy that there are clients who believe that furniture like this should be restored. It is a beautiful piece. I am very happy that you share the restoration with us.
Agreed.
It was fun to watch, but the only sensible thing to have done here is of course throw away the thing, what a mess.
@@urchinsea6297 Cost aside, I imagine it would take a lot longer to make this cabinet from scratch than restore it.
I agree with you 💯 percent!! Very solid point! Having the knowledge and the tools to restore these fine pieces, is a great recipe, to brand it back to beauty and a new life, instead of using it for firewood, or discarding it for other means.
If you have lots of money to pay for the restoration, do it. But its really firewood for most of us.
I wouldn't call that a restoration, more like a recreation! You practically rebuilt the whole cabinet! Nice job!
I thought that too, I believe it falls under the Ship of Theseus paradox. But is not like it could be used the way it was, it would probably end up disposed, so anything done is better then nothing
If it weren’t for the distinctive green glass panels, I would never believe it was the same cabinet. You did a superb job!❤️🤗🐝
It wasn't the same cabinet . . . he replaced so much . . . came out great though didn't it
@@mikemactavish1665 I would still consider it the same cabinet. A lot was replaced, but more was left original than was replaced. And yes, it was beautifully done❤️🤗🐝
Yes.

One thing is for sure, it must be a pleasure and fun ( sometimes) to work in such a well equipped workshop.
Yes😊
And so impressively clean and uncluttered.

Wow Ahti, you ARE an EPIC Furniture Restoration Sensation! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Another beautiful Art Nouveau piece brought back from the dead. Very much enjoyed the recreation of the carving and all the other details that made that crunchy cookie a beautiful piece of furniture again.
*Nouveau. Very close! 😊
@@babawali3021 I knew there was something wrong with that spelling; thanks!
👍👍 P.S. "Crunchy cookie" -- to me, it sounded like "crunchy matzoh"! 😅😅
I could come and watch you work everyday! What an amazing transformation from an amazing wood master!😊
When you keep checking your subscription alerts. hoping it’s one from AT, and you find it it is… whoop whoop….. as usual I will saving it for full appreciation later… can’t wait ❤️
WHEW!! IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING QUITE THIS BRITTLE AND DISTRESSED! This IS gonna be a restored piece.
How beautiful this turned out. I think you are happiest when you get to recreate the beauty that was like those flowers on the front. You do such great work with your hands and it is just WOW. Have a wonderful day and I certainly hope the client is happy as well.
A new video - what a joy! Good to see that the workshop is in good condition again and that all the machines are in their place. That must have been a lot of work. I look forward to every new video. Your craftsmanship is very special and outstanding. Warm greatings from Berlin 😊
I second all of that and add warm wishes from Düsseldorf! ❤
Oh, yes, I forgot about the flooding.
@@jsdesigns1420 😁 I misread "worm wishes". I thought it was a pun intended.

Ahti, you are truly a master craftsman!! Any fool with a laser engraver and computer could have re-created that flower design, but you carved the entire thing BY HAND!! That, sir, is true dedication to your craft. Another beautifully rescued and restored piece! Well done! ❤❤❤
The people with lasers and CNC's are enjoying hobbies, too. Let's avoid denigrating anyone that finds pleasure in woodworking, regardless of the tools they choose or are able to master. Those "fools" may develop a greater interest in other woodworking projects and skills and help rebuild a flagging interest in the craft. Let's not discourage anyone, even those can't figure out how to use a computer. 😉
@DavZell you're absolutely right. I did not mean to shame anyone using such equipment, just wanted to emphasize Ahti's skill. Thank you for pointing that out!
@@adriennejames9120 great response! Thanks!
I agree with every word he said. You a beautiful gift. ♥️😊👍
I think you mean "Even those who can't figure out how to use a chisel." 😉
You never cease to amaze me with your master craftsmanship. That was an amazing repair, on a beautiful cabinet. Thank you for allowing us to be apart of it all!!!
Yes.
As always, you've taken what looked like a lost cause and made it beautiful again. You're a Master
From trash to treasure, it turned out beautifully. The 3d flower was exceptional, you could sell those for a handsome price.
Very few cabinet makers would have started this project, but AT sticks at nothing. The result is excellent!
I like that you don't narrate your videos. It allows me to just focus on your superb craftsmanship
Once again, the beautiful craftsmanship we have come to expect from you
I LOVE WATCHING YOU BRING THESE WOOD PIECES BACK TO LIFE AGAIN, YOU DO YOUR WORK SO BEAUTIFULLY.
Watching the restoration of that cabinet was like witnessing the resurrection of a dead person. It was amazing.
Every time I think you can't possibly outdo yourself, you manage to create an even more splendid masterpiece. What a beautiful piece of art.
Wow, you brought that back from the brink of death. Great work! Happy to see that your workshop has recovered from the flood and that you're still in business
You re-created that cabinet. But left enough of the 'patina' and worm damage to give the impression of a very old but very well kept heirloom piece. Great restoration!
Not having a cabinetmaking background, I always learn something new from your videos, Ahti. I didn't know there was any such thing as bile soap or gall soap as it is known here in Australia. It's the restoration techniques you use, that fascinates me. Then the payoff of seeing the restored article. It really is a treat.
Yes, when I saw the word 'Bile' on that bottle, I was like...ah what? How do they make that! (But I have not looked that up yet.)
I was thinking the same thing. Who comes up with the idea to use bile on wood? Those are the things that fascinate me.
@@m.b.3248 You can tell, just by what it came from that bile soap must have been around for thousands of years. No part of a farm animal was wasted, when it came to making use of its body parts.
@@m.b.3248 Mai sentito... Ma è davvero a base di bile?
You worked your magic again! I didn't think there was enough wood left to restore, but you did it. 👍
This is a video that show how you convert firewood into a lovely piece of furniture. What a display of talent.
Excellent, as always. Thank you for sharing your process.
I'm happy that this piece was put into your hands for the restoration job.
You carried on "Business as Usual" by completely remaking it vs cleaning it up & restraining, etc...
You ALWAYS go that extra mile with the attention to detail that you give your work. You mentioned 12 man hours spent remaking this but that's not what counts. I could spend 12 hours on the same project & it wouldn't have been close to what your final product is.
Lovely work & I really enjoy your channel.
Thank you & sending you good vibes from Southern California USA 🇺🇲
12 days, actually, more like 80 man-hours.
@@SimplyRegOoops!You are so VERY VERY right & my apologies!
He said 12 days not hours and that's a HUGE difference. 🤔
Even though I knew it but typed it "rong", I still wouldn't be able to come close to what he was able to do!
Good vibes my friend! 🤟
Wow, Ahti. What a magnificent save and transformation! You did right by this lovely cabinet. Thanks for sharing this with us all and the hard work you went through to get it back to a usable condition. Thanks!
I love that you left some of the “battle scars”. It gives character…
I was wondering how you’d refinish the doors. I enjoyed seeing you carve new stencil. The new blends seamlessly with the original.
Giving antiques into your hands is the best a customer can do on the entire planet. ❤ The results are always awesome. 🎉 Thanks for this great video. Greetings from Germany 😊

Pure workmanship Such a beautiful job I hope your client liked it ❤
Amazing. Literally back from furniture underworld. From condition close to firewood (maybe even beyond) a nice, functional piece and a great deal of stories and memories for those involved.
Gorgeous job.
Thank you for “Restoring” this Antique instead of trashing it for the sake of views and flipping. ❤
I'm so thankful that there people in the world that still possess the ability to do this amazing work. The carving alone is brilliant.
What an absolutely amazing redo. You knocked this one out of the park.❤
After 12 days and a lot of very skilled work, this cabinet is now a beautiful, restored piece of furniture, ready to be used. I hope it lasts for another 100 years.
May that piece now enjoy another century of more respected and loved life.
The panel woodcarving part alone was so satisfying to watch! You are very talented in so many ways. Thank you for such a great restoration video.

Wow, what a restoration. As always, your talent never ceases to amaze me. You take furniture that others would throw away and make them like new again. As usual, an unbelievable restoration! You did a beautiful job and as I've said before you are the most talented woodworker on TH-cam - everything, every time is amazing!
At first I was like.."This is interesting..." Then you carved the flowers in the doors...👍.😄

Yo, AT Restoration, that was straight-up wizardry, man! This cabinet was like on its last legs, and you just went all "artistic chemist" on it. Art Nouveau from the 1910s? That's some real vintage stuff. I couldn't even imagine how to begin with something that wormed-out, bro.
12 days, huh? Man, that's dedication. It's like you were cooking up a batch of blue, but for cabinets. You definitely know your stuff about humidity and all that. And here I thought it just made my hair frizzy. Shows what I know, huh?
Keep it up, man. You're like the Heisenberg of restorations or something. Peace out.
Ahti Omg- that glass is just stunning!!😯 Wow, what a beautiful piece of furniture. 👌
Wow! I've never watched someone carve like that before. It's really cool
This is an amazing resurrection of what should be a crumbled pile of dust. Congratulations Maestro.
Professionalism, quality, accuracy, patience, directing, and magnificence are all embodied in this wonderful video.
Thank you very much for the interesting work, I really enjoyed the video
My late father was a Carpenter/Joiner. I used to love watching him in his workshop, the smell of wood in the air. Even now, many years later, if i smell wood it takes me back to those lovely days, times spent watching him. Thank you for video. Looks amazing. ❤
Honestly thought this was a total loss. Thanks for proving me wrong.
