You put forth the difference between restore and refinish. As an old school UK restorer of porcelain and fine china I applaud your eye and skill for detail and appreciation of the old methods. It is refreshing to see someone who really takes the time to restore rather than slap in a few repairs and paint it all. Bless.
Thank you for the nice comment. 😀
@@user-gg7vp6pv9s 😀
@@user-gg7vp6pv9s I also love watching a master work on a fine piece of nearly 200 year old furniture
A very good job.you put a lot of
Hard work in all your projects.from a rackety old peace of furniture to a. Spanking brand new furniture.😊😊😊😊
Thanks to the insight of Julius Lefruner back on 1922 and you in 2022. this piece survived over 181 years and will continue its life for hopefully another 100 years if the next craftsman who's ability matches yours. Excellant work and craftsmanship thank you for doing it and for sharing. Love seeing the respect people like yourself have towards the craftsman of the past. .ECF
Thank you for this nice comment. 😀
Meticulous repair, multiple glues/procedures, tons of patience = beautiful restoration. It feels like a resuscitation of a dying man given the gift of rebirth! Thank you for sharing.🎉🎉😊

Absolutely amazing! Had you used this for the competition with AT, you'd have won! I love how you showed and preserved the info on the 1922 restoration and hope that the next restorer will be as respectful of both the earlier notes. Thanks for being such a meticulous craftsman - yours is one of the few occupations where being overly obsessed with detail is a definite plus. Will definitely continue watching your channel!
😀
There won't be a second person that's going to restore that beautiful piece of furniture
Thank you! I love to watch your meticulous, detailed restorations. You have a goldmine of ratty old Biedermeier furniture where you live and you do wonders with them. This one is extra special.
What an amazing transformation ! The beauty of the grain is stunning. From fire wood to a gorgeous Cabinet. How clever you are, and thanks for showing us some very useful techniques. Take care 🙂
😀
How lovely to watch this restoration and hear the sound of tools, sandpaper, scraping etc. Relaxing and informative as well. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
A video without any pumped up music is a rare treat these days.
And we can enjoy just a little birdsong in the background occasionally. Great work - I love to see old furniture restored properly and beautifully ❤
😀
Minus the buzzing fly!
The wood is magnificent and how it lines up over the piece is divine. Your work is truly artristry in action. Thank you so much for filming this.
😀
Brilliant work. I can not believe how beautiful this piece is.
😀
That was a brilliant restoration, only wish there had been narration to explain the products that were used and reasons for the method, otherwise very entertaining, thanks.
😀
I'm in in if on in in in in in
It's just as good with the sounds of working with hand tools.

1:57 what are you doing
Best part for me was when you found the old restoration notes, rather than sand it all clean or paint it or something, which I have sadly seen more than once, you added your name to it. That little note will add to the value down the road, as it's further proof of the age and authenticity of it.
😀
Your skill and eye for detail is magnificent and you show such patience and appreciation of the old methods of restoration.Well done!
😀
😀
Vielen Dank
Oh my goodness! This is one of the finest restorations I’ve ever seen! Wonderful work and amazing results! Well done!
😀
I'm sad the restoration ended. I could keep watching that piece brought back to magnificents
@@carolyncrider8217 😀
😀
¡Cuánto trabajo! Enhorabuena por su labor, maestro. ¡Qué belleza! Me encantó el resultado.
😀
😀
This piece was in terrible condition, but so worth saving. You really showed your expertise on this one! I love furniture from this era, especially for the beautiful wood veneers.
😀
That is fantastic you put heart, soul and time back into these beautiful old pieces of furniture, you are definitely a master of your craft. Thank you for showing us how proper furniture can come back to life.
😀
Ganz lieben Dank!
Amazing. Thank You for keeping the old maintenance and restoration techniques/practices alive.
Only the most expensive furniture built today can come close to beautiful pieces like this.
😀
😀
Very beautiful surface finishing. This is an old technique which nowadays very few carpenters would use.
😀
My daughter and I recovered a dresser from a dumpster nearly a year ago with slat runners like this, and I'm watching to get a better understanding how to make the drawers slide better. Thank you for this video!
😀
Wow! Absolutely beautiful results. You exceed the scale of 1 to 10. I loved watching the restoration. I am amazed as to it's original look. Thank you for sharing.
😀
Whoever decided that ugly shelf liner paper was just what this chest needed must have been out of their mind! What a beautiful restoration you have done. Enjoyed watching all the scraping and glueing that produced this beauty.
😀 That makes me happy
Im always amazed how restorable and fixable wood furniture is.
😀
Yes so true and it is worth it. Unless you can buy real quality new it's all junk now.
Unlike particle board you can fix real wood stuff.
@@KeyboardBuster 👍
That was so satisfying to watch. My mother used to refinish furniture , not restore like you are doing and i appreciate your amazing gifts. Thanks for filming and sharing!
😀
So beautiful! 🥹 It was a pleasure to watch you finish it the way true craftsmen have done for hundreds of years. Poly-anything can’t match that!
Great job with the veneer repairs and excellent attention to detail. 🌟
😀
Poly acrylic is the worst- Blechh, spit, sputter(cat hairball) hate waterbased coatings.
Congratulations for restoring an antique that shows the craftsmanship of past days of hard work! You’ve done a masterful job on this!!❤
😀
Thank you for taking such care to uncover the hidden beauty of the wood! Absolutely stunning!!!!❤
😀
The beauty of this peace is how everything appears as a whole, in alignment, restored but with nothing missing. Excellent
😀
I watch many videos of people restoring old furniture. You are the first one I watched that actually used the proper glues for restoring an antique
Thank you 😀
I must watch this again. What a masterpiece of a transformation. Thank you, for making the effort, rescuing this beautiful piece, and for sharing your talent with us. I think it is fantastic that you annotated your restoration date, and left the original date.
😀
FASCINATING!!! You are incredibly talented. Your attention to detail and restoration skills are admirable. Fabulous❤❤❤
😀
I've restored homes & built cabinetry from repurposed wood the majority of my adult life.😊 One of the most irritating things to me was finding so many layers of paint covering beautiful wood. It's a good thing that I know how to get it back to its former glory💖
😀
The finish on the wood is so beautiful that I didn’t want the video to end. I wanted to keep staring ing at the wood grains and to relive the delicate reparations. Thank you for giving your gift to others simply to look upon.
😀
Amazing transformation, good for another 181 years! Definitely a beautiful piece of furniture anyone would be proud to own.
😀
You did an AMAZING job restoring this piece... absolutely gorgeous!
The wood grain, after you stained it, is so rich and unique!
😀
I love watching people actually restore furniture instead of just painting it. This was an act of love. Thank you for bringing this beautiful chest back to life.
😀
It's absolutely gorgeous! My dad was in the military and we were stationed in Germany. I loved it there! I didn't want to move back to the USA. We met so many wonderful and friendly people! This was in the late 70s to early 80s and I still miss being there!
😀
😀
You do wonderful work!! I learned a little working with my Dad, many years ago. I learned a few things watching your video. I like how you restore it and not make it into something else. Thank you for your video and for restoring a piece of history.
😀
😀
There are a number of videos of furniture "flippers", and their results usually look quite nice. But you are the first full-fledged furniture restorer that I've ever come across. The patience that it would take to give that thorough of attention to all those details is probably beyond most of us! It's very likely because you have the mentality of a craftsman.
Thank you very much 😊
😀
As just a fan of restoration videos I have no clue what that little buffing ball was? I’ve never seen it used before! Words escape me to describe this piece of history! I love that you added your signature to its history also ❤
😀
Wow! That 181 year old dresser looked like nothing more than firewood before you started out. You restore it to its former gloy. Great job.
😀
Ganz lieben Dank! 😀
Absolutely stunning!! Masterful skills in the restoration!
😀
Stunning result of your hard work. Great job!
😀
I'm in awe...absolutely breathtaking results, and the work to strengthen and repair the substrate...brilliant. May she live to see another 180 plus years. BRAVO
😀
Stunning work, as usual. You are really the best woodman I've seen on TH-cam. Just amazing.
😀
The work of the master is afraid! 🎉
This video is better than a feature film for me. I just love these videos!
Human hands can do anything! I love restorers! They know how to make candy out of garbage!
😀

Absolutely gorgeous! Just gorgeous! Magnificent restoration! And the hardware, beautiful and perfect for that piece.
Thank-you for sharing.😊

Thanks. Yes. That was it
Beautiful restoration. That reveal of the finished piece gave me goosebumps

Outstanding renovation. Stunning result. The wood grian is truly beautiful and the glossy finish really makes this piece fantastic. I wish it was mine

Absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing your artistry and this piece of history 😊
😀
I think even when it was newly made it wasn’t this beautiful! What a lovely piece of art you’ve created. Magical 😊
Thank you very much 😀
What a masterful job! For me, the brass pulls would not be polished to a bright gold, or polished at all to allow them to age. A stunning and elegant piece. Bravo.
😀
Love the way you fixed the cracks. I like the cracks and you defined but repaired them.
😀
beautiful restoration and polish!! amazing old beautifully made piece of furniture x
😀
Wow! There's restorations and then there's what you do. My grandfather used to do woodworking and I loved the guy but you are on another whole level. Congratulations on a beautiful job. 😁👍
😀
Oh Wow. It's absolutely glorious now. Such a great job. Joy as always watching you.
😀
Absolutely beautiful 😮! IF ONLY furniture and wood could speak... The stories they could share with us... 1900's! Wow.
I'm speechless.♥️ Congratulations on your final upcycle of this magnificent piece.🎉🎉🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🏆🏆🏆♥️♥️♥️

I just found your channel and you amaze me. Such talent. I like that theres no narration, just text. It's relaxing to watch.
😀
Atemberaubend schön, was Du da gezaubert hast! Tolle Arbeit. Grüße aus Rostock, Petra 😍
Vielen lieben Dank 😀
Gute deutsche Wertarbeit .... und nun wieder. Wunderbar. It is gorgeous and can live on for many more decades. Respect.
Vielen Dank! 😀
This is what I like about a restoration, you left the scars that make the piece. It is not new, it is old and should have scars to show its age. Beautful I love it
😀
Stunning!!! That wood is absolutely beautiful!!
😀
I have to say this was one of the most beautiful restorations I've ever seen on TH-cam.
😀
Thanks. I love when people save old furniture and things vs throwing away.
🤪
This was a brilliant restoration, the knowledge and use of the old methods show that you are an artist in every way. Greetings from Texas.
😀
Espectacular como siempre!
Muchas gracias por tu trabajo es excelente!
Gracias una vez más 😀
Amazing! If I hadn't seen it with my two eyes I wouldn't have believed the transformation. That shellac polish puts it over the top.
😀
It is beautiful, if only we could save all the old pieces. The wood grain is just stunningly beautiful. Amazing work. Love watching you. Peace!
😀
Wow!! To see what you started with and then to see the finished piece it’s amazing. Great job!!! Blessings ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👋👍👍👍👍

Blessed hands! Beautiful piece!

OMG you saved this piece of history and brought it back to life! What an amazing transformation! Just stunning.

13:41 Says it all. This is what my husband would call a spilt milk moment. As in 'no use crying over spilt milk'.
Another gem. Thank you.
😀
Chris, you declare that you are not a professional carpenter or restorer, that it is a hobby. However; I follow a lot of the professional restorers also and can safely say that your methods and results speak for themselves. You are a TRUE artisan and must also a kind person to share so much work with us, both from your projects and from all the work these videos are. I mean; check that list of tools etc, it must take an age to edit the films and list everything every time. Thanks again, and the finish on this Biedermeier is in SANE! Best wishes from Mette, Norway.
Hello. Thank you for this great compliment. I was very happy about that.😀 I wish you a nice sunday evening. Greetings from Germany, Chris
This gentleman has read every book on woodworking and finishing. He has knowledge of the chemistry, solvents, coatings, stains how and why they penetrate and more. Of this I am sure.
